Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Should you feck, OML, (or Scamp, as I think of you!). You should - as you did - be eating magnums, and lazing in front of the telly. You've been ill!

I bribed dd1 to help me clean the bathroom. Brilliant parenting. And now i've put on the telly so I can MN.

And, yes, you're right. I've admitted to my rodent problem. . Got rats on the brain at the moment...

TheShipsCat · 10/09/2008 16:35

Yes, my back hurts too. I slipped a disc when DD1 was five weeks, so I've been really nervous about it this time and never carry the dds at weekends when DH is around. But its getting them in and out of cots, and changing nappies on the floor that really seems to do it in.

SalLikesCoffee · 10/09/2008 17:17

Back horrible if I carry R for anything longer than an hour a day too, so I tend to use his buggy around here and his sling only when I'm worried about steps or rain. When I pick him up inside I stand funny, kind of twisted, which doesn't help either, I know.

Oma and TSC - I'm still thinking of you both in your "maiden names" terms

Dh away Tuesday to Friday next week (coming back mid-day, but I'll only see him evening), will miss his help. That'll teach me for moaning about how he does stuff!

OMaLittle · 10/09/2008 17:54

Why do the buggers keep going away? Er... to stop us moaning about them on the internet and make sure we realise they are a little bit helpful?

I know what I should have been doing! Expressing! Then I can legitimately MN!

TheShipsCat · 10/09/2008 18:14

mmm - it would be too generous to say that DH is a little bit helpful...not that i'm bitter, or anything.

TheShipsCat · 10/09/2008 18:17

Actually, to be fair, he is going to work from home one day next week so he can take dd1 to nursery/ pick her up/ put her to bed while I take A to a work meeting in London. Should be interesting. I'm a bit scared of having to BF in the office...

TheShipsCat · 10/09/2008 18:18

In fact, if anyone is knocking around central london at lunchtime on tuesday, I'll be there.

SalLikesCoffee · 10/09/2008 18:21

Hehehe OmaLittle. I've noticed an eagerness to go on overnight trips lately... Surely it can't have anything to do with loads of waking up at night and the luxury of a double bed all to his own now, can it?? [wink}

SalLikesCoffee · 10/09/2008 18:25

Sorry, x-post TSC (had to dessert my post half-way through for yet another nappy change). I went to the office the other day - was weird but nice at the same time. (Not bf-ing, but just weird to be there as a mum as apposed to manager).

TheShipsCat · 10/09/2008 20:00

It was weird? Oh dear. That doesn't bode well for me. And I'm not just visiting. I've got to go through loads of new designs and proofs, and apparently come up with loads of ideas...I've got nothing to wear and will have A with me. Going to look sooo professional, especially if A is true to form and I've had 4 hours sleep...

OMaLittle · 10/09/2008 20:06

I went in a few months ago and had to breastfeed. Only person who came up to me was the shyest chap in the team (I've been in it for five years and have had approx. 3 conversations with him) and he came up and pointed at her going 'is she sleeping?' - er, kinda - then realised and sloped off. Other than that it was way less embarrassing than I thought. Then again, I obviously don't give a rat's arse what they think as I revealed my flabby 2kids body in my boss's swimming pool when I went to his summer bbq!

DD1 is being SO cute today (which is good as I've had one of those days with DD2 where I feel like the last 20.5 weeks count for nothing and I have absolutely no understanding of her needs whatsoever ). DD1 has today started wanting to sing with me. We have gone through Hakuna Matata, I Just Can't Wait to be King (the Simba song, Mummy!) and 'Mummy's song' - A Whole New World, apparently . Please no-one expose me when I'm moonlighting on another 'I'm into really cool music' thread on MN one day. Seriously, though, singing with her was so lovely I'm welling up just thinking about it.

SalLikesCoffee · 10/09/2008 20:32

Oh Oma, that is sooo lovely! Ah, it's one of these things where you just wish you could have a snapshot of the whole thing - sounds, feelings, everything, to keep you heart warm and fuzzy on difficult days.

TheShipsCat - not weird as in horrible, it was actually quite nice. It was just strange because I was there in a completely different position. Since you're actually there not only as a current colleague, but also doing work on the day, I think it will be great. (I left my job when I had him, so was strange in not caring about what's happening as well. )

Sorry, my laptop driving me mad...

EllieG · 10/09/2008 21:03

Bloody hell you lot talk loads! Can't catch up....

Had a rotten couple of days with mol, but she's gone down like a dream tonight - exhausted from 2 days of crap sleeping. Or maybe she just knows when the window threats start to sound real....

Oma - your singing with your LO made me all sniffly x

LadyBee · 10/09/2008 22:01

I missed you!
I had a cooking afternoon, made Lamb Tagine in double quantities and will hopefully do Chicken Olives tomorrow after swimming.

OMa, only think I can think of suggesting is cutting the early nap short, so it's 9:30-10:30 ish, then 12:30-2:30 ish, then a short one 4:30-5, then you've got 2 hours to a 7/7:30 bedtime. ...

or...earlier bedtime. The Healthy Sleep Habits book recommends trying an earlier bedtime as one of his strategies for trying to stop overnight waking so you could try putting DD2 for 6:30 - he promises it won't result in earlier waking

TheShipsCat (Sagitta) good luck with the rodent ridding, we've got something, cat or fox I think, excavating the planters at the front of our house, which is really hugely annoying as it's exposed the roots of a rosebush I've been trying to coax along since DS was born.
Must remember to go out and collect tomatoes tomorrow as well, all we won't get any ourselves to eat.

I wake up every morning with a sore upper back, I don't think I move in my sleep anymore and am so stiff and sore. I go to bed with aching knees and wake up with a crook back..like an old lady me.

LadyBee · 10/09/2008 22:35

oohh, I've bought a buggy!

and I haven't told DP yet.

I think I won't. I think I'll just wait for it to turn up and then tell him how clever I was getting it for a bargain price and show him the super-dooper folding thing, and he won't mind at all.

Besides, I've paid for it out of my own money. He really can't complain.

This is the buggy I got.

TheShipsCat · 11/09/2008 09:54

cool buggy, ladybee! I'm sure dh will love it!

I tried that routine - more or less - yesterday, giving A an hour at 4-5. But although I put her down at 7.15, she didn't sleep till 10.15. (Then up at 4,5,6 etc). -As OMa said so well - "I've had one of those days with DD2 where I feel like the last 20.5 17 weeks count for nothing and I have absolutely no understanding of her needs whatsoever ".

OMaLittle · 11/09/2008 10:57

Hello all. Another OK night - up for 50 mins twice and ten minutes another couple of times (though I was VERY fast asleep and quite confused so I'm not really sure! I did note that I think there's some kind of alarm in her that goes 'TING! Mummy's about to get three hours' unbroken sleep, better start yelling, even though I'm not hungry', though... anyone else's LO have one of these and anyone know how to disable them?). Sis has gone to Indonesia (after staying out till 3 last night and leaving here, far, far away from Heathrow at 8.50 for a 12pm flight - sometimes I feel more like her mother than her younger sister!) which is quite a relief. Had a bit of a falling out with Dad on the phone as I can't help but be a bit spoilt brattish about the fact he said he couldn't help me on Tuesday because he had to practise for his cello lesson. Feel like I am always usually the diplomatic glue that holds my dysfunctional family together and at the moment I just don't have the spare emotional capacity!

Aaaaah, MN therapy.

On a good note, DH is coming back today and I am SOOOOO excited about seeing him. If you'd told me two months ago our relationship would be back to this by now (even before she's sleeping through...) there would be no way I would have believed you. So thanks for helping me hang in there!

LadyBee, love the buggy and your cooking sounds delicious. Must be on the mend .

TSC, was trying (in vain) to figure out how could do a Tues lunchtime with DD's nursery, assume you are working the morning or could you do an 11am coffee or something?

Was thinking of you all in the night as I tried to fob youngun off with one boob at the 4.30am feed. Initially went well, she had an extra 10 mins on the right (I was saving the other for expressing), then sat up for burping, glanced down meaningfully at the other boob, looked up and flashed her winning smile, then quick as a flash activated Plan "Dive And SUCTION"! Initially foiled by my top, she efficiently grabbed it and pulled it away. I suspect this might be a girl of considerable wiles.

TheShipsCat · 11/09/2008 12:22

OMa - (actually, I do think of you as OMa now). It would be great to meet you - but I have to be at work at 11.00.... I've got a feeling you live in S London - but if I'm wrong, I am going to Camden in the pm, if that's any use.

Was going to write more about sorry you had a shit night etc but must go stop the crying....

OMaLittle · 11/09/2008 12:35

We are indeed in South London (as are all the best people and gun criminals and uninsured drivers). You could meet my DH in Camden, as he works there, though that might be a little odd. Perhaps we should swap for the day - by the afternoon they'll have sent me packing owing to mild underqualification so we (and A) could sit in the pub... hmm... nice idea.

OMaLittle · 11/09/2008 12:41

DD2 doing another 2.5 hour special . DH picking up DD1 on his way back, but feel like I should check he'll make it otherwise I've got to get her out of bed and make a real run for it.

Ah, MN. For when you don't have anyone else to talk to.

DonDons · 11/09/2008 13:24

howdy all

well the builders have started and there is mud mud mud everywhere not to mention the racket caused by them smashing up 50 year old concrete that is about 4 feet thick. Luckily DD seems happy to sleep through it at her 'normal' times so that is a blessing.

Re sleeping issues I would try reducing the amount of naps during the day - DD has about 3 hours only now - 9.15 till 10 and 12.15 till 2.30. sometimes she has a short nap in the afternoon about 4.30. Then bedtime is 6.45 ish after filling her full of milk(!) and she will generally sleep until 6.30/7 ish.

DH has decided we need a holiday so have been frantically searching all morning for somewhere in the Lake District for next week - it is so hard to find baby friendly places....not that I ever growled at squealing babies pre-DD of course
