LadyBee · 09/09/2008 10:31

sometimes. Not sometime's.

LadyBee · 09/09/2008 10:32

oohh...sometimes is one of those words that start looking wrong when you look at them over and over...

DonDons · 09/09/2008 10:45

I just feel guilty if I am not entertaining her all the time - although I know she loves being on her mat/gazing in the mirror/playing with her toys etc.

Yesterday was the first time she has really taken any notice of the animals - normally it is just the trees, or more often, her hands, that hold the most fascination. It's a good job we went yesterday though as today the rain is back with a vengence, whihc is not helping the huge amount of mud the builders have created outside my back door grrrrrrrrrrr.

SalLikesCoffee · 09/09/2008 10:50

lol Ladybee, the first signs of madness! (Just joking obv.)

I am absolutely shattered. Also nearly killed dh last night. I know I shouldn't really complain, as he helps with nightfeeds and work really, really hard during the day. BUT, if he is going to help, he needs to do it right [control freak emoticon]. What he's been doing lately is getting up for the middle of night feed, but instead of just given R's milk, he's chatting with him, waking him up completely. As you can imagine, R is then completely awake and no way in hell will he go back to sleep. Then dh grumbles, and I feel sorry for him and worry about him being able to concentrate at work, and then I have to spend at least an hour (which feels like eternity at 3am) trying to persuade R that he really should be tired. I've banned him from R's room during the night if he so much as say a word or make eye contact again. Will see how it works, but honestly, it's easier and quicker giving a quick drink and letting him fall asleep than someone else giving a drink and me pacing up and down with a crying baby in my arms!!! Sorry, rant over.

I could do with a nap now - let me see if I can persuade R to do the same!

Peachy · 09/09/2008 12:01

Ah you see there aren't any baby & toddler clubs bar the HV one that Bas is too ld for now. If I were near the traffors I might be tempted, even Cwmbran centre is worth a walk, but all we have is the Ffrwm (sp-think there's more f's in there) which is semi-porno carvings and crap cherub souvenirs- bollox!

Weightwatchers weigh in- lost 5.5lbs. Fab.

TheShipsCat · 09/09/2008 13:12

I'm looking for baby groups too at the moment, but not having a lot of joy. Going to try one this afternoon, so we'll see if its good.

Had another good night with A. OMaLittle - how's it going with you?

By the way, I've namechanged. Was Sagitta.

OMaLittle · 09/09/2008 14:44

Hello TheShipsCat, thanks for the shout out! Actually feeling terribly sorry for myself as I have food poisoning and DH flew to Libya (AGAIN) this morning. Back Thursday. Luckily my sis is staying until Thursday when she goes to Indonesia but I feel slightly guilty about asking her to do stuff (even between dashes to the loo) in a way I don't when I tell ask DH to. Feeling a bit better, though (been ill since Sunday) and just managed a pitta bread so will see if that stays put. DD2 has been waking a lot in the night (every 20 mins between 2 and 4 last night, so what with my fever and loo dashes and feeds I didn't get more than one hour in a go), not sure if she's cold. Room is much more like 16-18 degrees now but I think she's used to much warmer.

DonDons, that cracked me up about having your thumb up your arse. I have been known to respond rather aggressively to 'but I've been at work' too - e.g. "WELL I HAVEN'T BEEN HAVING A F*CKING PICNIC!" The other one that annoys me is 'but you can go back to sleep at lunchtime' - hmm, yes, IF I can get them both to go down at once, and believe you me, I would HAPPILY trade my daytime nap for just one full night's sleep. Just one.

Urgh, I should probably come back when I'm in better spirits. Early 2009, maybe?

TheShipsCat · 09/09/2008 15:27

So sorry to hear you're having such a terrible time - the squits on top of everything else is a nightmare. Have you tried a touch of controlled crying with E? I was a bit of witch last night and wouldn't feed her when she woke at 4, as she's done 3 nights in a row without it. A cuddle and back down again was all she got.
I realised last night that our room was freezing, and I can't find the thicker tog babygro that i know I've got somewhere. Had to turn the heating on, and then I was paranoid that it would get too stuffy in there and she'd stop breathing. I made DH go and check our her room in the night, between feeds.

At the start of each day I keep wondering what I am going to do - so I promised DH I would properly clean the bathroom and varnish our bedroom windows this week. But I don't seem to have found the time to do anything apart from --MN. Where does it all the time go?

LadyBee · 09/09/2008 16:25

Well done Peachy, that's brilliant!! You and Scorpio are supposed to be inspiring me but my chocolate habit is too strong at the moment. I really think I might be addicted, I start feeling quite unhappy if a day goes by without some small chocolatey treat.

Maybe I could get chocolate buttons and just have one a day

hahahahahahaha

No that's never going to work.

Dondons I have found that by sitting on the floor next to Ben with my laptop I can feel like I'm entertaining him while still MNing guilt free...as I am doing right now.

OMaLittle, I am feeling terribly sorry for you too.

Peachy · 09/09/2008 19:21

oh poor you Oma- sounds awful!

SalLikesCoffee · 09/09/2008 20:22

Oma, thinking of you, hope everything's settled now! I'm in awe of you as it is without the additional, well, uhm, runnings, so was funny to see you haven't lost your sense of humour, lol.

Well done on the weigh-in, Peachy. I'm with Ladybee on the chocolate addiction, but whereas she's sensible and consider buttons, I've bought they buy-one-get-one-free huge tin of Quality Street. What the hell is wrong with me??? I'll have to go back to work just to stop me from ending up as a wallrus (am getting closer by the second).

TheShipsCat (I got really confused halfway through your first post, thought I've completely forgotten the name of a regular poster! Was quite relieved to reach the end and see it's you), I've been tempted to switch on the heating too. Dh said at 18 it's within recommended guidelines, but I'm thinking same as you - poor thing is used to warmer climates now. So I feel too guilty lying there under my warm and cosy down duvet while he's in a summery growbag!

Dh bought a syringe at the chemist today, as trying to give R Calpol doesn't quite work with a teaspoon (his clothes have no aches left though). He's still not great, I blame teeth. He's also been a bit pukey today. I smell funny.

SalLikesCoffee · 09/09/2008 20:24

VS, where are you btw? You haven't moved yet, have you? If you're reading this, good luck with the packing (unless you're already there...)

TheShipsCat · 10/09/2008 09:35

I always smell funny, Sal! A is a real puker...

Had a shocking night, so I shouldn't have gloated so much before! I am so tired, and I've got both dds all day today, and DH is away. Dreading it. I think its going to be a Cbeebies day...And wondering if cleaning the bathroom will be a fun activity for a 2 year old.

I just realised [dense emoticon] that instead of worrying about the thin grobag, I could always put A in a vest as well as pyjamas,..can't believe it took me that long to think of it!

TheShipsCat · 10/09/2008 09:37

By the way Sal, you get a free syringe with Nurofen...

KnitterInTheNW · 10/09/2008 12:03

I shouldn't have spoken too soon either... George went down like a dream after only having one side, woke at 10 for the other. Then woke up at 2:30 and stayed awake for an hour and a half. He only came out of the cot a couple of times to see if he would feed to sleep, the rest of the time he was singing and chatting to himself. Bah.

Our bedroom gets really quite cold overnight too, and G has been sleeping in long sleeved vest, babygro, 2.5 tog grobag with a pair of socks over his hands and a single layer of cellular blanket over him too. He's also been having his cot pushed right up to our bed and has a cot bumper along the other side to try to keep the draughts out too. We have floorboards and it's colder in that room than any of the rooms with carpet. He's been sleeping better with all those layers on so he must have been cold before.

LadyBee · 10/09/2008 12:13

Bummer TheShipsCat, hope you get a rest today to make up...bathroom schmathroom.
We're back from the immunisations, and Ben did sooo well! He didn't even cry for the first two, and only for about 2 seconds on the third which the nurse said was more stingy. Such a brave boy

Whoever suggested that I feed him in small stages in the mornings, thank you! This is really working for us, he hasn't done a big puke in the morning since we started. We do about 3 x 5 mins sessions with breaks in between. But...

For the first time we weighed Benedict and he's lost weight since his weigh-in last week. I'm not too worried, as it was a different scale used for the home visit weighing (last week), and I'll just take him in next week to see how he's going before thinking much more about it.

DS is still asleep from the walk home, time for a cup of tea I think

OMaLittle · 10/09/2008 12:18

Hello! Pleased to announce that I have managed to retain a couple of pitta breads and lots of hot water and sugar (which is nice and potentially quite addictive).

Another desperate chocolate addict here - recently switched from Green and Blacks to Divine as it's cheaper more ethical, used to be able to stop at one row, now I have to make DH take it away and hide it or I eat the whole bar (and barely even chew between swallows).

We had an OK night last night, up for a few minutes at 9.45, 50 minutes at 11.40, ten minutes at 3.18 and about 45 mins at 4.34. DD1 up at 6.36. Still, a couple of good blocks. Who needs sleep when you've had no food and are recovering from food poisoning, anyway? Managed to argue with my sister by 7.10am, too - nice.

DD2 has been a RATBAG this morning. May be my fault (most things are, you know) - she was dropping off as I was giving her a top-up feed at 9.20 prenap (another adherent to max two hours' awake time here, though does cause probs in the evening, more anon...), I was watching Entourage so perhaps waited a bit too long to put her down, then figured she was a bit ratty anyway, and she was sucking my arm, so brought her down for a bit more food (and Entourage) in her sleeping bag (she's still swaddled ), took her back up, had a few gurgly moments so I left her and she quickly worked up into FULL ON SCREAMING, the kind where you understand where the saying 'scream your head off' comes from. 1hr 45 after starting to think about it, she FINALLY goes to sleep.

OMaLittle · 10/09/2008 13:14

Er, got curtailed there (but no-one seemed to notice ) by friend arriving to watch DD2 as she had then timed her nap for just over the nursery run. Been down for two hours now.

The thing is, her naps tend to be round about 9.30-11.30 and 1.30-3.30 (I know, I'm very lucky she goes down for so long, DD1 never did more than 45 mins before her first birthday, and though DD2 wakes up, she will be coaxed back to sleep which DD1 wouldn't... but then DD1 was sleeping through at this age). Then I'm not sure what to do at 5.30 - sometimes a nap in the BabyBjorn but I never put her down. Thing is, this (I think) can mean she's too tired to take her bedtime feed properly. Any tips?

Peachy · 10/09/2008 13:15

our house is really cold- gaps around doors and windows would account for that- but he sleeps in with us so fingers crossed OK.
Well, in that he doesn't get cold- the waking nights are starting to take a toll

Well anyway just collected my glasses- goodness I look scarily bad now I can see! seriously! skins aged about a decade- eeeeek! also have a chest infection and worried abiu bf if i need ab's (still won't take bottle)

so spent £35 in boots on de-ratting stuff and now have to go peruse bettaware as can now see the no-longer hidde house dirt. Damn full vision!

TheShipsCat · 10/09/2008 13:52

OMaLittle - the same problem here - A is too sleepy for the last feed. No suggestions, I am afraid. I've tried all sorts of different routines but none is particularly effective.

Had a crappy morning. Went to the farm shop/garden centre/playground at dd1's request. A went into full-on screaming mode, as I was strapping her in her car seat to leave, turned to get dd1 and found her sitting on the ground eating broken glass She promised she didn't swallow any, but I made her eat some bread anyway.

I feel like such a crap mum today as I am so tired I am being horrible and shouty to both dds, and its not their fault. (Well, actually, yes it is, its dd2's fault.). But I've had so much coffee to compensate that now - in a rare moment when both are asleep, I can't sleep .

Peachy, we have rat troubles too. I've just bought all the tomato plants inside as something has been very busy eating them - the low ones. DH is going to be a bit pissed off as we already have two 7 foot tall beefsteak tomatoes inside which he is desperate to get rid of. But he's not here so tough.

TheShipsCat · 10/09/2008 13:54

Peachy - by deratting, did you mean rats? Can you buy that sort of stuff in Boots?

PeachySoLongAndTa4AllTheFish · 10/09/2008 16:18

LOL- no, de-ratting as in stopping myself looking ratty!

OMaLittle · 10/09/2008 16:28

Ah TSC, so you just confessed to your rodent problem without any ready-made solidarity!

Is it OK to think of you as Sagitta? I kind of think of it as your real name. Does everyone think of me as OMa yet?

DD2 went down again (6 mins this time, phew) at 3.40 and DD1 is still asleep having gone down at 1.30!! Not quite sure what to do with myself (so ate a magnum which prove to be a bad idea... so much for the recovery ).

I should work on my crap barely started then abandoned for literally months novel, shouldn't I?

OMaLittle · 10/09/2008 16:31

OH, and I can't believe I've forgotten to ask this for months, is anyone's back in crippling fucking agony all the time? It's alternately slouching and arching my back when carrying either DD, I've got to sort my core muscles out I think. But I don't have time. Hang on, I'm on MN complaining I can't think of anything to do... (not to mention the pigsty mildly untidy house)

OMaLittle · 10/09/2008 16:32

Oh, and Peachy, you forget we can all see and know from your pics that you're gorgeous .
