monkeysmaketheworldgoround · 22/12/2008 14:53

hello all! been a bit of a stranger round here lately. not had internet at home again. sorry to hear of all the bugs, work worries etc. really hope 2009 brings everyone some good news.

about to leave work for the last time this year, feeling so festive it's ridiculous, i know i'm going to hit a real low when xmas is over!!!!! all presents are bought and wrapped and all food is bought although hoping dh will pick up some last minute bargains at work on xmas eve!!

hope eveyone has very merry christmas and a happy new year!!!

TreeandMistleJoe · 22/12/2008 20:26

aww nice to hear you are in the christmas mood monkey. we are feeling very fextive too now. all very organised and ready (so we think!) to have everyone round for a lovely christmas dinner. all presents wrapped, all shopping done, just baking some cherry scones and making some toffee at the mo, then all ready for our guests.

just had a very but moment with ds, i was getting ds ready for bed in his bedroom and he gave me such a big kiss. i said thank you and asked him if he wanted a cuddle, he shook his head and said 'bed'. i know it doesn't sound like much but it made me realise how quickly he's growing up and how we are having his 2nd christmas already! it was beautiful too though, he's getting so independant but he still gives the best kisses in the whole world!

right, won't be on here much over christmas, got lots of people coming round and no end of cooking/ tidying/ playing qith ds' toys to do.

just wanted to wish you all a very very happy christmas and a really happy new year.

Uki · 23/12/2008 10:53

GillL · 23/12/2008 17:22

Sorry to hear about the colds, coughs and teething. Ds is still suffering with his 4 teeth coming through and I think I even saw another one cutting through at the bottom earlier today Hope he doesn't feel too bad on xmas day.

We're very lucky that we've never had any of the stress of having xmas dinner at home, although we will eventually offer to have it here one day when we finally have our dining room back [hint hint dh]

Joe - that's so lovely. I savour my hugs from ds as I don't get many, only ever when he's really tired when I take him to bed. It's a good and a bad thing them growing up so quickly.

Knickers - my dd started waking in the night after ds was born. Often she was worse than him in the early days. Do you think it might be related or is it just her cough/cold?

Hope everyone has a lovely Christmas. Hope you manage to get some rest.uki. I should be on a few times before the new year if anyone else is around.

loler · 23/12/2008 19:58

Hello everyone - had a very quick skim read through - have missed loads as internet has been down for a while.

TT - love the name, not a million miles from dds (don't normally say their names on here - not sure why?!). DD is Anya and the reason I tell you this is that ds1 is Patrick. (Isn't your Patrick, Patrick Henry? Again I remember as mine is Patrick Harry). Wonder if we've got the same naming book? Also wonder if you'll name match dc3

Hope all the colds are better in time for christmas. Will do a more lengthy post soon - am getting ready to brave Tescos.....

GillL · 24/12/2008 06:51

Hi loler. Good to hear from you. Hope Tesco wasn't too unbearable. Dh went to Sainsburys on Monday and he had to park on the road as there were no parking spaces.

Annoyingly I've been wide awake since 5:30. At 6 I gave up trying to get back to sleep and came down to watch some tv. The dcs haven't been waking up before 7:30 for the past few days so I've probably got another half an hour or so on my own. I bet they'll be up early tomorrow when I want to lay in

helibee · 24/12/2008 17:48

hi all, just to wish you a very happy christmas, Callum has been an angel for the last 2 weeks now and he goes down for the night at 10pm ish and then goes straight through till 7pm when dh brings him into bed with me but he's still sound asleep then he has milk at 9am and sleeps till 12pm when he finds the remote and turns on frasier (without fail) and then curls up for another hour laughing and clapping to his new fav tv programme!!

Anyway hope all babies/toddlers behave and have a great time tomorrow x x x

GillL · 29/12/2008 14:26

Hello. Hope everyone had a lovely Christmas. My dcs have given up sleeping so I am shattered. Several nights in a row they have still been awake past 10pm. Last night they were still awake at 11!! I'm back at work today counting down the hours until I can go home (only 2 to go).

Ds has now cut his 4 teeth and picked up a cough and cold so he has been quite miserable for the last few days. They both got too many presents. Ds actually got bored opening his and hasn't really played much with his new toys. We're gradually trying to get rid of some of their old toys without them noticing. We've got to buy some new toy boxes though as our living room is just covered. Hopefully dh will be starting on ds' room soon so we can get rid of them all upstairs.

Hi helibee. Glad Callum is sleeping well.

Joe - how did the dinner go?

hi all, hope you all had a lovely christmas.

sorry your nights are all mucked up gill and knickers. joe slept from 6:30pm to 6:30am this morning so night's are great, he seems to have given up on day sleep though! not sure why, he used to really need his nap and has only just cut down from 2 naps to one, well now he seems to be fighting any!

anyway, christmas was lovely and dinner was a complete success thanks gill! couldn't have gone better. ds was very hyper, i think he picked up on all the excitement of lots of people and new toys but he was very happy and it all went perfectly, so different to last year

how is ds doing knickers?

heli, your callum sounds like such a little charachter, laughing at Fraser! he obviously has an adult sense of humour! my ds is still in the laugh at people sneezing and farting phase!

GillL · 30/12/2008 12:38

We had a good Christmas thanks knickers, although it was slightly stressful with ds' teething and cold. Dd was very pleased with her presents. I ran out of wrapping paper on Christmas eve evening so had to improvise with a very large gift bag and some birthday paper to wrap dd's doll's house.

Both dcs actually slept very well last night. As I was back at work they were back into their normal routine. Dd went to sleep in the car at 6pm and I had to wake her at 7am. Ds went to bed at about 8pm and I had to wake him at 7am. Neither of them wanted to get up this morning. They must have really needed to catch up.

Joe - ds has fewer naps now. I used to be able to put him in his cot for naps 2 or 3 times a day. Now he only wants one (sometimes 2). Enjoy it while it lasts - you'll miss the time on your own when he drops it and only sleeps at night, even if you use it to catch up on the housework

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 31/12/2008 17:25

Hi folks, sorry for the Big Fat Absence. We are now all moved in, and the internet connection is pretty strong so I thought I'd dive back in again while I had the chance. I'm not even going to attempt to catch up right now, since there are squillions of posts, but I hope you're all ok and all the re-pregnant ladies and their beans are doing fine.

The move went ok, thanks. Ran out of money halfway through so had to call in a lot of favours but it's all done now and the house is good, lots more space, nice thick walls, right near town, great. Only problem is the bathroom reeks and the mystery smell defies all bleach and drain unblockers.

Diddly squat news here, all very boring in chez Banana I'm afraid... James has 11 teeth, he is his usual running climbing kissing whirlwind self, he's now obsessed with vehicles of all descriptions and drives them around going brrrmmm all day. He's just started making his In The Night Garden figures kiss and hug each other too which is cute.

He has stopped eating everything put in front of him now, the only potatoes he will eat are chips, he won't eat anything green, refuses previously enjoyed food, and appears to be living on sweetcorn, pasta, toast, cheese and fruit. Grrr.

He still isn't saying anything, daddy is still ah-googoo, Mummy is still googoo, gooo is What's that? which he uses for everything these days, he even asked what my boob was the other day lol

I'm feeling mega broody at the moment, probably because of the new house, and because we've started talking about when we're having the next one. It was planned for 2010 but we'll be lucky if we manage to prolong it that long because I have baby dreams every night at the moment.

Hope everyone has a fanaastic New Years eve whatever you're doing - wine and pizza, possibly with my big brother round, here- and I'll speak to you all in 2009, when we should really get around to a new thread before this one bursts and spills toddlers everywhere.

meandjoe · 31/12/2008 19:37

just wanted to wish everyone a happy new year. i am a misery guts at new year so will be going to bed at normal time, only to get woken up by bloody fireworks at midnight, grrrrrrr.

james, so glad the move went well. the house sounds lovely, must have been quite a stressfull time, i hate moving house! we bought this house the day before i was die with joe and moved in when he was 7 weks old, total bloomin nightmare! joe goes through phases with his eating too, i just leave him to it. somedays he wants nothing but yogurt/ fromage frais/ grapes etc, i try not to get too hung up on it now. james will eat what he wants and needs when he's ready.

anyway, joe has so many new words now, he says: flower, shoes, cheese, trees, oof oof when he sees a dog, bus and car, he's scaring me, just two weeks ago i think he only said 'what's dat' 'drink' 'mamma' 'dadda' and thats about it!

anyway, better go et something, i'm starving!

meandjoe · 31/12/2008 19:38

sorry due with joe not die!

helibee · 31/12/2008 22:46

happy new year to everyone, we had a great christmas day with 13 adults and 3 toddlers! however Callum caught a very bad cold from his cousin and an eye infection and so he's on antibiotics, antibiotic eyedrops and he's pretty miserable, understandably, however he's thrilled that his nandad has been staying for the past week

Glad the move went well James, i know what you mean about being broody, i also have baby dreams every night but i need to get my progeterone levels up and as i came on (sorry for TMI) yesterday i am feeling sorry for myself that it may be a few months yet

Gill and knickers, hope the dc start to sleep better, i'm so glad C is sleeping so well at night now and he still naps during the day, he's better at slepping when dh is at work, he thinks he's missing out on daddy time if he naps otherwise!

meandjoe-dh and i will be watching a film in a min in bed curled up together and that is my ideal way to bring in the new year-last year we did the same thing but with C curled up with us too.

monkeysmaketheworldgoround · 01/01/2009 09:05

happy new year everyone!!

I was fast asleep at midnight and dh had fallen asleep downstairs and didn't make it into bed until gone four this morning so not the best way to see in the New Year! i am now at work in a deserted building wondering how to spend my day and when the earliest i can sneak off is! theoretically could have had today off but the extra pay and lieu day will come in handy and dh loves his daddy daughter days!

we had a great christmas, both dh and i thought it was our best ever, even better than wehen we were kids. my mum and dad came over for the day and stayed overnight and my sister came round with her kids for an hour or so in the afternoon so got a bit hectic! dd had been really poorly the day before but had picked up a bit. a combination of heavy cold, teething etc. she's still very snotty but mostly sleeping through again now which is good! she got lots of pressies, her favourite is a spot's noisy walk book which has lots of buttons for her to press to make animal noises. she does quite a lot of noises herself now, horse, cow, sheep, dog, gorilla, monkey, fish, lion, cockerel but when it comes to actual words there's not much going on apart from mummy, daddy and bird!

we skyped her other grandparetns xmas morning so they could watch her open her presents. we've not done it for months so this was the first time she actually paid attention and recognised them. she was mesmerised! i personally hate skype, find it quite intrusive but on this occasion it was worth doing!

well no doubt i'll be back on here later!

Hersetta · 02/01/2009 11:06

Hello all - happy new year to all.

We have a lovely Xmas and NY and Caitlin loved opening and playing with her presents which have all been a great success. She loves her ELC Kitchen and pretends to drink from her cups and then pretends to give them to her teddies to drink from as well - so cute.

Isn't it funny how they are all coming on so quickly now. Caitlin now also says shoes and bear but if you ask her what noise a duck makes she says 'cak cak'. She can also do 'oof oof' if you say dog to her and 'eow' for cat. She was mesmorised by Stuart little film yesterday afternoon and every time she saw the cat she run over to the TV saying 'cat' and 'eeow'. Very cute first of all but do you know how mant scenes the cat is in? She must have done it at least 50 times and seeing the cat didn't seem to lose it's excitement as the film progressed.

She also counts at every available opportunity - she counts to two or three when eating raisins, climbing the stairs, when i strap her into the car seat and putting on her trousers.

We took her to Linton Zoo in between Xmas and new year and she loved seeing the animals her favourites were the Leopards and she ran up to their cage and said 'eeow'.

Glad to see you again James and glad the move when well. perhaps someone like Dyno-rod could get to the bottom of your smell problem.

Glad everyones sleeping is going well - Caitlin in erratic to say the least. One week she sleeps no problem and you don't hear a peep from her, others, like this week, she screams blue murder when you put her down for a nap or to bed and we basically have to leave her to cry herself to sleep which I hate. I'm putting it down to teething as she has a couple of bulges where her molars will be so i assume they are causing her some distress.

Feels like a Monday here at work, so it's lovely that its actually friday and I've got the weekend still to come. No plans here though. I've already maxed out at the sales (got lots for her in next and Monsoon) and I bought her 8 pairs of shoes in Woolies for the nest 3 sizes up for just over £9 and next years halloween fancy dress costume for just £1.50. Felt really bad though - felt like a vulture.

Anyone else got any bargains?

GillL · 02/01/2009 11:18

Hi all. Happy new Year. I had a great new year's eve. I went to bed at 11pm and I wasn't woken up by the fireworks at midnight I must have really needed to catch up. Unfortunately dd woke me up at 3:30am. I took her downstairs, put a dvd on for her, gave her a chocolate biscuit (bad mummy) and told her not to wake me up again. I don't know how she managed to stay awake all day but she was in a very good mood until she started to get tired around 7pm. Ds also managed to stay in a good mood all day despite only having a 10 minute sleep in the car before dinner.

Glad the move went ok James. Hope you manage to sort out the smell! Dd went through a phase of refusing veg around this age and it lasted quite a long time. I kept putting it on her plate but didn't make a fuss if she didn't eat it. Eventually she started eating it again.

We're planning for 2010 for the next baby too. I still get broody occasionally but I start thinking about not being able to afford to go on maternity leave and the fact that ds is getting more independent (so more me time) and that normally sorts me out

Ds is still not saying much yet either. All animals are still cats. He says mama or mummy but not much else. Dd had quite a large vocabulary by this age and my neice was talking in sentences (no exaggeration!)

monkeys - I'm being really thick here and I can't remember your old mn nickname. What was it again? I hope work wasn't too boring yesterday and you managed to leave early. I'm hoping to leave early today but I'm not confident. Glad you had a great Christmas. What does skyped mean? Webcam?

GillL · 02/01/2009 11:24

Hi Hersetta. I got some lovely thick long cardigans with hoods for dd for £4 each and 4 tops for 75p each in ASDA. I went back a couple of days later to get some more but they had hardly anything left and nothing in dd or ds' sizes.

Dd was a bit confused about the days too. Yesterday was my only day off this week. I think she thought it was the weekend because, when I told her she would see her cousin today, she asked if we were going to her house.

meandjoe · 02/01/2009 20:36

gill monkeys was leifmum.

got nothing to report, just bumping thread from oblivion!

asda shopping sounds fab gill, i got loads of gorgeous new clothes for ds from primark in lincoln last week. i got some lovely tops for a quid and loads of pairs of trousers for £2 each aged 2-3 years , they fit perfectly .

(oh and i think skyped is a bit like a video call that you do over the internet with a webcam) just butting in cos i'm bored and have bugger all to tell you. hope all is well with everone.

Hersetta · 05/01/2009 14:24

Good bargains Gill. I went into monsoon again this morning before work and got a gorgeous spring/autumn coat in a size 2-3 yrs down from £35 to £10.50. Was well chuffed.

DH and I were sitting watching TV on Friday night and DD was playing and singing to herself when we suddenly both realised that she was singing a song. She can now beautifully sing the tune to 'the wheels on the bus' song but substitutes all the words to da da da. so cute.

I'm very pleased today as my best friend and I are off to see hamlet tonight and it's been announced that David tennant will be back in the title role - very happy. Late night ahead though as the play doesn't finish untill 10.50 and then it's about 90 mins home.

mamamila · 05/01/2009 15:21

hi everyone, found you! happy new year
well i've returned to mumsnet, positive preg test on new year's day totally took me by suprise.. so i've joined due in aug 09 group and found Uki there too. new baby's due on mila's birthday. i'm currently wiped out by the all day nausea, that should be enough to quash any broodiness out there
so, i'll try to browse through a bit and see what you're all doing
mila rules the house with her ear piercing squeals, she's obsessed with raisins and grapes and totally fearless/ dangerous so usually sporting a bruise on the forehead, still has one undereye from xmas day bash with coffee table. she still has only 6 teeth and can say mama, baba (for dad but also says for all black people ),bye, cheese and more!

Hersetta · 05/01/2009 16:24

ooh huge congrats mamamila - an august double !!!

Caitlin has 12 teeth now which she occasionally uses to full effect when she sinks her fangs into my arm. She taken to trying to bite out knees as well and when you say no to her, she just giggles. She also had a horrinly habit of pickinh up mu shoes and biting them which I assume is all down to teething - that or she has a rubber sole fetish!
