Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
meandjoe · 11/12/2008 09:29

Lol!

Enjoy your trip to London and please tell Santa I would like some DVDs and some chocolate for Christmas! Ta xxx

hollytree · 11/12/2008 09:44

do you still see your hv meandjoe? I havent been with ds since I went back to work in April - dh took him a few times till he was one but dont think he has been back since.

Guess I might get him weighed once just to see when next lo comes along cause I would like to know.

Have been finding it really funny recently how similar ds and my sister's ds2 are - they see each other usually one morning a week, so not enough time to really copy each other, but they seem to do almost exactly the same things at the same time.

For example, ds has recently started pretending to do things, like make soup in a beaker and feed himself, then pick things out of beakers (just air) and eat them, then smack his lips. The next week when we went to my sisters, her ds2 did something very similar. Makes me laugh.

Helibee - your episode sounds very scary - do you get that a lot with fevers or is that the first time?

well done your dd knickers staying in a big girl's bed - might have to think about that before too long with ds so the baby can get the cot at some point.

meandjoe - its really scary just now with jobs - hope your dh's bonus doesnt get cut but it almost seems inevitable with a lot of jobs when you listen to the news - it has to pick up at some point, but just no clue when.

meandjoe · 11/12/2008 10:06

Well I don't see her regularly cos I don't take ds to get weighed that much anymore, maybe just once every few months. She was just the HV that came to see us first and occassionally when i do go to weigh clinic she is there and asks how things are going. She seems to think that all babies should be weaned by 4 months though and off bottles by 9 months .

He sounds so cute doing the same as your sister's ds! Strange how they don't see eachother that much but seem to do things at same time.

I know we are lucky really, dh's bonus being cut is a tiny inconvenience compared to what some are going through but we often have on rely upon that money for clothes etc for ds but I am sure we'll cope. DS seems to have slowed down nwith his growing now so hopefully we won't have to be buying clothes so often!

meandjoe · 11/12/2008 10:51

Grrr I hate teething! Ds is clinging to my keg like a limpet and sobs if I dare stand up to do anything. Poor boy, I know it must be hurting him now but he doesn't half like to let everyone know about it! He so takes after dh !

meandjoe · 11/12/2008 10:51

sorry leg, not keg!

NewKnickersFromSantaOnMaHead · 11/12/2008 11:01

Awww bless him. We have been really lucky with dd. Teeth coming though dont seem to bother her. I just no ds will be the complete oposite

hollytree · 11/12/2008 11:14

lol meandjoe - maybe it was a Freudian slip and you actually want to be sitting on your sofa with a keg. He certainly seems to have trouble with his teeth - but then he sounds like they will all be in by the time he's about 18 months.

I think I can see a molar coming but ds doesnt like to cooperate when i try to see into his mouth.

meandjoe · 11/12/2008 11:24

Lol yes a keg would be nice! I think he only has 4 more teeth to come and then that's it so hopefull won't be too long. He's strange cos the front bottom ones came in without me even realising, they just appeared one day but the back ones seem to give him lots more trouble but he doesn't wake in the night with it so I'm not sure if it's genuine pain or just sort of discomfort. It certainly affects his mood during the day. He appears to be OK at the moment though and happily banging on the window at the dog outside!

Joe hates me looking in his mouth too! I just have to do it when I brush his teeth whihch actually he quite likes. He loves his toothbush, strange child!

Knickers with a bit of luck ds will be the same as dd but they are all so different. My friend's ds same age as Joe screams for hours when he's teething and is up all night so I know it sould be worse!

helibee · 11/12/2008 13:45

no not had a fever like that before but i'm fine now, the doc said it's quite common with this strain of bug going around!

C still has a couple of bottles a day but he goes through phases of it, i'm not fussed and neither is my hv, he speaks fine and it's mianly cos he likes his milk just before his naps and he's too sleepy to drink them from his cup with no lid!

i think we're going to have to change C's cot into a cotbed soon as his fav thing to do now is climb anything and everything.

knickers-have fun in london, dd looks sooo cute in her big bed.

hollytree-thanks for texting back, i didn't get many cards written as my wee monkey woke up

meandjoe-hope Joesephs teeth come through soon, C has 4 coming through now, i'm hoping that these ones will all be through before christmas.

we had to postpone C's MMR again because our nurse likes them to have been bug free for a week, but she's very good, she has a 97% uptake of the MMR here cos everyone trusts her.

TreeandMistleJoe · 11/12/2008 19:12

Your HV sounds a lot more understanding than mine Helibee! Joe had his MMR but the uptake of it round here is fairly low, sadly measles is making a bit of a comeback in Lincolnshire because of it and I just didn't want to take that risk. He is fine though, didn't really effect him.

Joe has seemed fine this evening so hopefully his tooth isn't going to bother him too much.

Managed to write all my Christmas cards and me and Joe went on a little walk to post them. One less thing to worry about!

Think we will put the tree up tomorrow.

Hope you had a fab day in London Knickers and dd enjoyed meeting Santa!

Hersetta · 12/12/2008 12:01

hello all,

haven't been on for a while as nothing really to report and it's taken me 3 weeks to shift my cough and cold so haven't felt much like posting.

Knickers - your DD looks so grown up in her bed. i couldn't shift Caitlin yet - she's such a fidget that she'd fall out every night for sure.

Not much else to report except she's running around like a looney now and sings at every opportunity.

Proud Mummy moment at swimming last week when the swimming teacher handed her a toy and she took it and said beautifully ' thank you'. He was very shocked and said how polite she was. She's also taken to pointing at things now and saying 'want dat', then throwing tantrums when you say no. She's becoming more like a toddler and less like a baby every day.

NewKnickersFromSantaOnMaHead · 13/12/2008 16:23

Awww how cute, DD is still in the 'ta' stage.

helibee · 13/12/2008 18:42

so far so good, C isn't bothered by the christmas tree at all, except to put his red ball on it (it matches the baubles and he prob thought it had fallen of)

Everythig he says is preceeded by "this" or "it's this". He was on the phone to my dad yesterday and he was saying "ellow nandad, this this, ach" and then fell about laughing

hersetta-glad your feeling better, Caitlin is very good to say that, C still says ta.

knickers-hope you've had fun

treeandmistlejoe-love the name! Yes our hv is very good and easy going. It helps cos my mum was a hv so once you tell them that they are very nice to you. My mum was a lovely hv too, she used to have people coming to our house to see her just to say hi and give her cards and pictres the kids had made and if she went to Tesco's she was always hijacked by several of her mums when she died they named a unit after her in the clinic and all the mums donated i miss her lots at the moment i'm just listening to Bob Carlisle and Lucy Kane singing 'make a wish' and it's very tearjearking

TreeandMistleJoe · 13/12/2008 19:23

Aww helibee, I always find I miss my mum at Christmas too, especially as she died at New Year so the whole festive period is pretty tough . It was lovely that they named a unit after your mum, must be a lovely remeinder of how much she meant to lots of people. It doesn't you much at the minute though I'm sure .

Bless Callum on the phone laughing! I bet he must have said something hysterical in his little mind!

Hersetta, I can't believe how vocal dd is! Joseph just says 'That' A LOT!!! and 'No' , 'Dink' for drink and 'des' for yes, 'mumma' and 'dadda' That's it really, he is a boy of few words!

Hersetta · 15/12/2008 09:03

She's really not that vocal - hasn't got a huge vocabulary (but she is constantly warbling). She says cat, mum, dad, hello, thank you, bye, that or dat and she can count to three and she also says oof oof when she sees a dog but that's it really, the rest is very earnest babble. She's also taken to picking up the tin of Roses chocolates, bringing them over to you, putting them on your lap and saying 'thank you' crafty little madam.

hollytree · 15/12/2008 10:27

hee hee - laughing at all the little antics of our los. I love love love this age - they are so gorgeous and cute (well most of the time).

Ds has lots of animal and vehicle noises but not many words - thank you, bang, tick tock are about it just now - but he definitely makes it known what he wants - similar to the way your dd hands you the chocolates hersetta. We go to a pretty small church and he was the only child yesterday and they are all happy for him to wander around during the songs etc so yesterday each time the music started, he walked around the room and started singing with everyone, and holding their hands and dancing - it was so so funny. Made a bit of a dull service a lot happier .

Finally felt the baby kicking like I remember ds doing it - had been quite nervous although am only 21 weeks so suppose its still fairly early for lots of kicks but is so much more reassuring when you can feel them.

Wonder how tokentotty is getting on - she's due in January I think.

My little cousin is pregnant and due in January but was trying to arrange to meet up with her via Bebo and she messaged yesterday to say she has pre-eclampsia so getting induced in the next week or so. Very nervous for her but am sure she will be fine - she's 17 and is with her boyfriend although he moved from his home town to live with her which is great, but meant he lost his job and its not a great time to be job hunting just now. Really hope she is ok.

Anyway - look forward to hearing more stories about everyones cute little toddlers (man I'm in a happy mood today - its great not being so sick and bunged up) and what they are all getting up to.

TreeandMistleJoe · 15/12/2008 13:53

yay for the kicking conker!!!! wohoo, i loved that feeling, it's lovely isn't it?? i dunno if i'm alone in this (i suspect i am!) but i sometimes have that really panicky horrible feeling for a split second when i realise that i haven't felt ds kick for ages! then i remember that he's sat on my lap and has been here for 16 months!

hollytree · 15/12/2008 16:52

lol joe - thats funny. only similar thing has been to get a right shock yesterday when i suddenly thought i'd driven off without putting ds in the car but of course he was quite happily sitting there - but not quite as far back as kicking.

i still felt him kicking for a good month or two after he was born though which was weird - not all the time but just now and again. strange how your mind works.

NewKnickersFromSantaOnMaHead · 15/12/2008 23:02

Awww Holly, tis great to feel then kicking isnt it Doesnt make me want another though

GillL · 16/12/2008 16:31

Hello everyone. Sorry I haven't been on for a while. I've been feeling quite down recently. I think it's mainly due to my work situation. We're still not being told anything and we're all feeling very negative and expecting the worst.

Ds is doing well. Everything is called 'dat' at the moment. He's developed quite a temper and throws himself on the floor when he doesn't get his own way, often hurting himself in the process. He's learnt to spin and walk backwards and he practices this at every opportunity with a big grin on his face. He's also got 2 more teeth that have just cut through. That makes 6 altogether now. One's a molar so he may be able to chew harder food at some point in the near future

Dd's got a hospital appointment on new year's eve for her bowel issues. She's constantly swinging between being constipated and not being able to control herself. I hope they can do something about it. She's very excited about Christmas and is looking forward to going to see Father Christmas on Friday. We still haven't made a decision about schools but we have narrowed it down. I'm sure I'll bore you about that sometime soon.

Sorry to be all me, me, me. I'm hoping to be able to catch up with all the posts I've missed tomorrow or Thursday.

TreeandMistleJoe · 16/12/2008 19:12

hi gill, nice to hear from you but sorry things are not so good at work . it is a worry. everyone at dh's work have been asked to take a 10% pay cut (you've probably heard it on the news) but the union is yet to decide on it. 10% is a worrying amount really but i know it could be worse.

joe has learned a new word today, we were in tesco and i picked up a block of cheese to put in the trolley, he just pointed at it and said 'cheeeeese' so clearly and then just smiled! i was so proud! he also sticks his tongue out when you tell him to and he just looks so cute! i can't believe how happy he is beomming and what a gorgeous little toddler he is. i would never have believed it a few months ago! he still knows how to throw a bloomin good tantrum though!

anyway, all is ok here. joe is currently obsessed with the christmas lights and has learned to pull the drawers open on the sideboard and climb up them like stairs to reach the tree which i put on there to keep him from pulling it over! i am constantly pulling him back down but he just smiles right at me and then does it again, grrrrrrrrrr.

hope everyone is ok, we are all ready for christmas now and i can't wait to give joseph all his new toys!

helibee · 16/12/2008 22:21

gill-sorry you're feeling so down and i really hope the job situation gets better.

hollytree-thats so cute at church-the one we go to has about 100+ people but once Callum walked up to the Pastor (who is a good friend of ours) and asked to be picked up and wouldn't let him go for the rest of the service

C has been a wee bit grumpy this evening as his 'oof' is hurting him, he then bought me the syringe for his medicine and said 'ease'(his word for please)

He can also throw very funny tantrums, last night he wanted some galaxy so dh and i told him he had to say please as it wasn't part of his dinner it was a treat - cue the tantrum, which had dh and i in fits of laughter so C started to laugh, then he threw himself on the floor oh so dramatically, put a hand to his head, sighed and then shouted 'EASE' just to make sure we heard him and came over with a big grin and his hand out! , hersetta C does the same with the roses tin.

mistlejoe-i hope the money situation is ok for you if dh has to take a 10% pay cut. So far my dh is ok (he's a structural engineer) but he's having to work much longer hours as he runs the Glasgow office and he's trying to win as many jobs for them as possible so that they don't have to let anyone go.

Has James moved yet? I'll check my facebook to see if she'd said anything about it.

mistlejoe-are you near Boston? We've got close friends there and we're visiting in the new year so if you're close enough to meet up just say

helibee · 16/12/2008 22:26

just checked facebook, i think they were supposed to move today, hope all went well James and that J behaved for the move

hollytree · 17/12/2008 09:33

hi folks. sorry to hear about the work situation Gill - I know whats its like - everyone at my office is nervous too - and kind of trying to score points off each other to make themselves seem indispensible which is making the atmosphere quite difficult.

all these new words they are all coming out with are great - I can see now why people say that children are like sponges - they just seem to be learning things without trying all the time.

so far ds has not been too bothered about trying to take things off the tree, but if he sees cards, he tries to open them which is fine when they are addressed to us, but I caught him starting to make his way through the pile I had just written to other people so that could have been a slight envelope disaster .

did you go to the edinburgh christmas thing helibee? sorry we couldnt make it - things are pretty hectic just now. dh works for the church so its one of his busiest times of year.

hope everyone has bought most of their presents etc and can start to relax soon.

TreeandMistleJoe · 18/12/2008 10:53

hi all, heli we are about 70 miles away from boston which is a fair way off really. boston is very nice though, will you be going to lincoln? i LOVE lincoln cos i went to uni there and spent hours shopping and going round the castle and cathedral when i should have been in lectures! hope you enjoy your visit to your friends. i can't believe c is able to tell you what hurts him and bring you the syringe, that's so clever!

has anyone heard from james? i hope the move went well and that little james is settled and happy in the new home. xxxxx
