Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
GillL · 14/11/2008 09:20

Hi all. We've all got a stomach upset so I'm at home with the dcs today. I had a migraine last night so I was in bed by 8:15. Ds woke up screaming at 5:45 and kept crying on and off until I put him back to bed at 8. He's had some calprofen so hopefully that will help.

We're supposed to be taking fil out to dinner for his birthday tonight. Hopefully we'll all be up to it.

Ds still has at least 2 naps a day when we're at home. It's never the same time of day. I just put him back to bed whenever I think he's tired enough. He only tends to have 1 nap a day at mum's though. She's out and about so much with school and pre-school so he just drops off in the buggy.

monkeysmaketheworldgoround · 14/11/2008 12:26

hi all!it's leifmum. decided to change names. leif was our 'bump' name so time to move on from that and we've had a really good year monkeywise at work so thought i'd honour that.

hope you feel better soon gill and make it out for your meal tonight. how's your nephew doing?

keep crying at lots of baby/children things lately. baby p just horrific, then watched a programme about children in nigeria being branded as witches. i just can't comprehend how people can hurt children. always makes me want to hug dd tightly and never let her go. always used to be animal things that upset me most but now it's the human things as well. sometimes i just have to stop watching/reading.

had stressful start to day yesterday. train into london normally takes 50 minutes but yesterday it took 2 hours. sooooooo frustrating and i hate being late. luckily managed to arrange a stand in until i got there and the trains were fine on the way home.

dd slept really well past two nights. she watches itng before bed and i've been giving her warm milk in a cup during that so think she still needs something to get her through the night. not much else been happeing this week. my mum and dad have flown out to egypt today for a week of sun. not at all!!

monkeysmaketheworldgoround · 14/11/2008 12:29

oops! was going to say about dd sleeping during the day. she rarely sleeps for me now but still has a nap in the morning when dh is looking after her. if dsis has her then it's a bit hit and miss. will always nap in the car though so we can use it as a last resort. she can get through the day without napping and she's not too grumpy by bedtime but i like having at least half an hour break during the day!

conkertree · 14/11/2008 18:02

hi folks - just a quick hello cause i am cross. was going out tonight with dh for the first time in ages to a theatre thing, but pil were babysitting and turned up saying the fil had read the review and wanted to go
so now its a three person night out .

shouldnt really be annoyed but i was looking forward to a very rare night out with dh.

anyway - will try and remember the new name leifmum - do you work with monkeys were you saying? and gill are you all feeling any better yet?

My2 · 14/11/2008 19:35

hello all - things are so hectic! i've only manged to read the last few posts - will try and catch up later.....

hope everyone is well?

conker - that's a wee bit inconsiderate of fil. you or DH will just need to ask them to come and babysit next weekend so that you can have some time to yourselves.

i'm a bit confused about the monkeys too exleifmum!

dd2s sleep is crap - last night she was up 3 times, can't decide if she's cold, hungry, too tired, she does have the starting of another cold (runny nose) so fingers crossed for tonight - would settle for her going through to 5am!

oh well - off to do some online xmas shopping...

Uki · 15/11/2008 10:52

Hi All

feel bad for not being on for a while, alot happening which i will explain later.

Conker- Stuan sounds soooo cute about wanting his bath.
hope you had fun at the play even with FIL

meand my joe-Yep 2 naps here most days too, usually one short and one longer one, sometimes just one big one, but is happy to go to bed when tired.

J&GB- can't believe james is so into drawing so soon, you might have a little artist there.

well news from here, the second house we were trying to buy nearly fell through, can you believe it in this market? anyway they agreed to sign again if all happened straight away, but took lots of phonecalls to agent, solicitor ,etc- all signed now should get keys in less than 3 weeks.
then of all things 2 days later the sellers of first house rang back and said they'd sell again BUT anyway couldn't of worked out better, as second house is cheaper and in a better village walk to shops schools, etc-it's also a pretty unusual house, hard to find in Oz so we feel blessed.

other news i'm hoping for a BFP this week, only first try but over analyzing already my boobs feel tender and really hot at the top, does this sound familar to pregnancy? either that or i'm radioactive find out friday

meandmyjoe · 15/11/2008 12:17

How was the night out? Hope it wasn't totally ruined! I'd have just said no to him!

How was your dd2s sleep last night my2?

Hope everyone is well. Joseph is getting another back tooth on the top, poor boy can barely eat but he seems happy enough. Still only has 2 bottom teeth though! He has nearly all his top ones even molars so not sure why he's so gummy at the bottom!

Hope all is ok with everyone and that everyone enjoys the weekend.

Thanks for telling me about all the lo's naps btw, I just wondered what was average but everyone's seems so different that I suppose there's no need to worry. Somedays he has 2 naps, somedays (like yesterday) only 1 so I'll just have to take it as it comes.

meandmyjoe · 15/11/2008 12:18

Night out stuff directed at conker!

meandmyjoe · 15/11/2008 12:23

UKI! The house sounds great! Congrats, hope it all goes through well and all goes to plan. My boobs felt wierd all through my pregnancy, kind of burning and uncomfy at the top and really really tingly and sensitive nipple (urrrgh, I hated that feeling!) I will keep my fingers crossed for you! Very hectic life you've got at the minute, moving house and ttc really hope it happens for you!

conkertree · 15/11/2008 19:56

thats exciting uki on both fronts - hope you get your bfp.

night out was a bit rubbish - dh and fil talked in the car all the way down about people I dont know etc - dont blame dh at all - its just how his family always are, and the play thing was ok but nothing spectacular. as usual afterwards fil spent the whole time looking for people he knows to prove how important he is (he's not very - just knows a few people in high up place cause he works with the government for a few things), and dh knew a few people from his work, so i wandered around slightly bored. sorry - sound a bit like a spoilt child there but was just looking forward to a couply night and it was the complete opposite.

anyway, hope dd2 sleeps better tonight my2, and hope joes teeth are not too sore - hope everyone else is well.

My2 · 15/11/2008 20:37

woudl you believe that dd2 slept from back of 7pm till 5.30am - it was dd1 last night that has had me up since 3.30am with her coughing! she got back to sleep but i didn't. fingers crossed that both of them sleep tonight!

conker - sorry to hear your night out wasn't the best.

uki - exciting times! and stressful too with the house(s)!

menadmyjoe - hpe joe's gums are better soon. dd2 has 1 sleep a day anywhere from 1-2 hours.

i'm going to try and keep up with everyone's news from now on....

just bought their main xmas presents - dd2 is getting a dancing Po and dd1 is getting the tag reading thing.

i've put a more up-to-date photo on of the 2 mischief makers

meandmyjoe · 16/11/2008 08:58

Oh my God my2, both your girls are gorgeous. DD2 is so grown up! She looks about 3! Joe, dispite being huge still looks like such a baby. He has really fine hair and such a chubby baby face. Those pictures on your profile have made me very broody for a little girl! lol.

Anyway, Joe is eating like a horse again today, I don't get it with him, one day his gums seems really red and sore, the next they seem fine but still no sign of the tooth. I can feel loads just under his gums on the bottom now so I think they'll all come through at once, about time!

Conker, sorry your night out was sabbotaged! What a shame. I know what you mean about just wanting a coupley night out, me and dh have only been on one night out since ds was born and that was LAST November to my friend's engagement party! I think we really need to arrange something actually, my sister is always offering to come round and baby sit or watch the monitor if he's in bed. Maybe you could get pils to baby sit again soon and this time insist on it just being the two of you, I'm sure they'd understand.

UKI, still got my fingers crossed the the bfp.

Better go, Joe stripping off his PJs. Think he's ready to get dressed, either that ir he just wants to charge about naked for a bit

meandmyjoe · 16/11/2008 09:08

....yes indeed the boy is just naked and running about the house grabbing his willy I wonder if boys ever grow out of this?? Dh still seems to be similar.

monkeysmaketheworldgoround · 16/11/2008 10:42

hi everyone!

meandmy - joe is such a cutey. think willies are a boys best friend forever so i guess he's getting well acquainted! hope you manage to get clothes on him soon though! hope his teeth and gums settle down as well. they can't go on teethng forever can they?????

Hi Uki - house sounds fab, keeing fingers crossed and hope the bfp comes for you too. very exciting. my boobs feeling different was the first inkling i had.

conker - sorry your night out didn't quite go to plan. very insensistive of fil and i would have hoped dh would have said something. will you be able to arrange another night out soon for the two of you do you think?

as for my new monkey name yes i do work with monkeys! i work at london zoo and although since going back i'm doing a slightly different job, for the past seven years i've worked mostly with the large primates, particularly the gorillas. we've had lots of really important monkey births this year so we're all pretty chuffed.

dh and i went out to a friend's surprise birthday meal last night. nearly didn't go to plan. there were two surprise parties being held in the restaurant and both sets of guests were being sent to the upstairs bar. we thought something was awry because all the people we didn't know were in fancy dress and looking at us very strangely! luckily we worked it out and managed to get seated at our table a couple of minutes before birthday girl arrived. otherwise could have gone a bit pear shaped. was nice to have evening out but i just can't stay up late any more!!

we were going to go to london today to meet up with friends but we've been stood up! quite glad in way because didn't facy al the hassle this morning and the weather's pretty dreary. so i think we're going to go to a couple of xmas fairs. i don't think i can wait to dec 25th!!!!

My2 - hope you get more sleep tonight!

meandmyjoe · 16/11/2008 13:23

WOW your job sounds so much fun monkeys! I'd love to do something interesting like that. The suprise party sounds manic but fun, great that you had a good night out.

Managed to dress Joseph, much to his disgust. He loves being naked, he is a bit odd! If I even mention the word willy (or anything that even sounds like willy) he immediately looks down and tries to pull his trousers down and grabs at his nappy whilst laughing. A bit inappropriate really, I do hope her grows out of it.

My2 · 16/11/2008 20:32

monkeys - that sounds fantastic, bet each day is so different. do you have much interaction with them?

meandmyjoe - was looking at joe's pictures, did you give in and pay the ransom for noddy? he's cheeky! oh, and i'm just on page 3 of your fav book - started it whilst laptop booted up! hope it's good....

well dd2 was up again last night form about 12am till 1.30am - then she moaned all night. fingers crossed for tonight please!

meandmyjoe · 16/11/2008 21:32

Oh the book is fabulous... be prepared to cry bucket loads! I read it when Joe was the same age in as the baby in the book and it was a very difficult time but this book honestly made me appreciate how much I loved him. I hope you enjoy it!!

Of course I paid the randsom for Noddy! lol

Hope you get a better night's sleep tonight, but be warne.. you may get addicted to that book! I loved it, less for the mystery of it and more for all of the main character's emotions and loss, it was heartbreaking.

Hersetta · 17/11/2008 09:45

Meandmyjoe - you did make me lol about Joe and his Willy. His BFF!! Glad you rescued Noddy from his imprisonment in toys r us. We have an embarrassing tale about a trip to Mothercare a couple of weeks ago. I was shopping for a present for my new newphew and was looking at baby teddies and cairlin lunged and grabbed a huge soft teddy which she proceeded to hug and talk to the whole way round the store. I paid for my purchases and it was only when I went to put her back in her car seat that I realised she was still tightly clutching her teddy. Bad woman I am - i didn't go back and pay for it.

My2 - your DD's are gorgeous. I can't believe how grown up your DD2 is!

Monkeys - your job sounds so interesting. I'd have loved to work with animals rather than be stuck in an office all day.

Conker. Sorry your night our was spoiled.

ToThrottleABlackBird · 17/11/2008 13:26

My2, DD2 has the most lovelest hair

MeandMy, hope the teething isnt too bad now. Ive never actually noticed when dd is teething they just dont seem to bother her too much I suppose. at him running around naked.

Uki, fingers and toes crossed her for you!!!!!

Conker, I hope you and dh can get a night out together soon.

Awwwww Monkey, your job sounds great!!!

at dd with the teddy Hersetta.

Well, dd has been going to be about 6.30pm ish every night and has taken to waking up once during the night but settling herself back to sleep thankfully, then...she is sleeping til gone 9.30am

Tis my first day on my own with both kids today and isnt as bad as I thought it would be, although dd went for a nap at 12 and is still asleep I love my sleep though and so does sp so it must be in the genes.

Ds got weighed today and weighs 10lb 8 1/2!!!! He only weighed 10lb last Monday.

Hope everyone is well.

conkertree · 17/11/2008 13:59

hi folks - great to hear that things are going well blackbird.

meandmyjoe - ds would love the chance to run around and grab his willy - but we keep it locked away as much as possible because he has a tendency to try and turn himself into a girl when let loose - think his eczema is rife in the nappy area - but i really do think he could do himself an injury if i left him to it.

monkey - your job sounds like so much fun - again stuck behind a desk it sounds much more exciting.

the night out thing i have calmed down a bit about cause it was just one of those things and maybe fil didnt realise how long its been since we were out on our own together. also - dh and i both felt we couldnt say no cause they take ds one day a week so feel a bit indebted to them. Will just need to move somewhere that we can get babysitters more easily. The guy we want to buy the house from is thinking about buying our neighbours flat so they can buy ours, and we bguy his - he went to see the flat and liked it (for renting out) but then the neighbours estate agent told them it was off the market. havent been able to speak to them for the last few days, but its still marketed online - so cant work out what's going on.

helibee · 17/11/2008 16:44

hiya, i'm trying to catch up but i have a wee rascal here trying to help mummy type and drawing on the laptop. Its so funny in the last few weeks C has started to really love drawing and actually manages to colour a wee bit more than just the occasional pencil mark-just shows how quickly they change.

As for sleep C loves his sleep and needs at least 12-14 hours a night and then a good 2 hour sleep in the late afternoon. He usually goes to bed at 10.30pm and sleeps till 12pm then naps from 4-6pm. All that sleep is good with my FM/CFS.

C too likes running naked but because of his eczema we try to keep it to a minimum so that he doesn't scrtch his body to bits.

Conker-sorry about the weekend and the house situation does sound confusing but i hope it all works out.

Monkey-that is such a great job

Hersetta-Caitlin is so cute-it's so nice that she has such a close relationship with your mum. When are you seeing your mum again?

my2-I'm sending both dd's sleep fairies but def keeping some for my wee pre molar teething monkey . oh and the girls are gorgeous and so grown up.

gill-how are you doing now?

blackbird-thats good about dd sleeping, your dc must have the same sleep gene as C. glad you're 1st day oln your own is ok.

meandmyjoe-Joe will get the cup thing soon, Callum just loves to copy us but i wouldn't let him try and drink from the cup without us hovering, he usually has his day water (to sip from whenever he feels like it) in a lidded cup-less messy . Have you managed to get all the decorating done?

James-ho is everything with the house going?

uki-hope you get the BFP, i get my hormone blood test results this week to tell me if my PCOS is still causing problems then i think we'll start trying next feb time.

meandmyjoe · 17/11/2008 17:35

Hi all,

Heli, Joe is really good with a cup for water during the day and any other drinks but not milk! he just shakes his head so still has 2 bottles a day! Not sure if I should be trying harder tomake the transition but part of me doesn't mind as I like the cuddles with the bottles! Haven't managed to get all the decorating done not quote finished anyway but not far off!

Wow all these people trying for new babies. I still feel like Joe is brand new! lol

helibee · 17/11/2008 17:46

C still has 2 or 3 bottles a day although we're trying to change them all to cup, it's a wee bit hard when he's so sleepy. Today however he has had 6 bottles!!!!! Whenever he has a growth spurt he refuses food and only wants milk, the rest of the time he eats very well. Hopefully it'll only last a few days!

I can't believe how big Joe is though. C is still in sixe 9-12 month trousers and tops and the trouser legs are still a wee bit long, having said that dh is not 6 ft 2 like yours so thats prob why

I asked C a question earlier and he looked at me, put his finger to his lip (in a thinking pose) and then shook his head and said " ach mama"

meandmyjoe · 17/11/2008 18:54

Lol! That is so cute helibee! I'm sure Callum will be back on his food when he's ready. Wow he does sleep well, that must be good for you and give you a bit of a break. I thought Joe slept fairly well but no where near as well as C. Hope all goes well with the blood test results.

Yeah, Joe is rather huge but I have had him measured again this month and he has barely grown in height, under a centimetre so I think he must be slowing down a bit (about time too!)

Blackbird so glad things are going OK with you. Hope Samuel is settling in well and that you are getting some rest.

Joseph's gums have calmed down a bit, he didn't seem miserable with it but just wasn't eating much and still won't eat or feed himself from a spoon so he's been living off toast, roast parsnips, fish fingers, sandwiches and potato wedges this past week! He doesn't seem to mind though.

Dh putting Joseph to bed, then he's going to cook as he's got 4 days off work now so we may have a romantic night in (not that it will end up being romantic, dh will end up farting and scratching himself in front of the TV He is so similar to Joe.)

GillL · 18/11/2008 12:44

Hello. The dcs seem to be over their stomach upsets. I'm not feeling too good though so I think I have a mild touch of it. I've discovered something which may be contributing to my bad headaches - my bottom right wisdom tooth has just started to come through! Can't believe I'm teething at 30 years old

I feel for dd. Mum noticed she had done a poo in her knickers after she picked her up from pre-school. She asked why she hadn't told one of the teachers. Dd said that last time the teacher told her she was naughty. Mum is going to speak to the lead teacher today. I don't think it's right that they should say that to her.

My nephew is out of hospital and doing really well now.

Ds is really sweet now. If he's tired and I ask him if he wants to go to bed - he gets up, walks to the door to the hall, opens the door, waves goodbye and then climbs up the stairs

uki - congratulations on the house. Fingers crossed for the bfp!

conker - sorry to hear about your night out. Hope you get another chance soon.

My2 - if it's not one it's the other I was thinking of getting ds one of the dancing teletubbies. He loves things like that.

meandmy - glad to hear Joe is better now. Dd regularly strips off saying she wants to be naked.

hersetta - ds almost stole a purse from Claire's Accessories a while ago. I was so busy trying to stop him grabbing things that I left my debit card in the machine when I left.

blackbird - glad ds is doing well and putting on lots of weight.

helibee - how sweet C saying 'ach mama'.
