Hello. I'm fed up with work and can't wait to get home. It sounds awful but I was looking forward to having Friday off last week even though I had to go to a funeral. It doesn't help that my head has been bad for the last couple of days but it's probably work that's causing it. I'd love to get a new job but we've decided that I'll stay until May (which is the earliest that I can leave without having to pay back any maternity allowance). It seems such a long time away but I'm sure it will fly by.

We went out to a country show on Monday. I wasn't really looking forward to it but it was a lot of fun. Dd had a good time in the play area and rides. She didn't like the terrier racing because it was too loud. Ds was really good. He ate his lunch at 12:30 when we got there and then went to sleep at about 3. We left at 5 and I was dreading the journey home because I knew it would take ages just to get out of the car park. Fortunately he stayed asleep (even though dh was not gentle strapping him into his car seat) until half an hour before we got home. He slept for 4 1/2 hours in all and didn't get his dinner til 8:15. Fortunately I had a pot of raisins in the car to keep him going.

I think ds has realised he now has a tooth and finds it quite a novelty. If he puts something in his mouth (a bit of dd's crumpet this morning) he keeps spitting it out, chewing it and then putting it back in again.

Did anyone ever reply to the 'poppet' thread knickers? I have to say I have given up even reading threads in other sections at the moment. People can be so judgemental. Some posts are just completely unneccessary especially when they tell you that you've made them angry but don't actually give you any constructive advice (can you tell I'm still annoyed about it?).

Hi helibee - glad callum is on the mend. ouch about his babboon bum. I bet that was distressing for everyone.

Knickers - I didn't see your post before it was withdrawn but having read the replies I have an idea how you're feeling. I used to have to rock dd to sleep when she was small but she'd wake up the second I put her in the cot. One night I was so tired I screamed 'shut up' to her repeatedly at the top of my voice and then got back into bed and cried my eyes out. Hope you're feeling better about things. You'll be fine with the new baby. I bet he'll be completely different. My sil had her second baby 2 days before her ds' first birthday. You didn't even know she was there most of the time, she was so good.

meandmyjoe · 27/08/2008 13:51

Hi knickers, how are you? I didn't see your post but I gather your feeling a bit low. Just to let you know that we've all been there. It must be overwhelming knowing there will be another baby along soon but it'll be amazing, hard work but you already know that! You'll be fine, honestly.

We all have days where we feel shit and we say and do things we don't mean. I shouted at ds so many times in the early months, I was exhausted and probably depressed and I was foul to him. To be fair, he was foul too but he was a baby and didn't know any better!

I still lose my temper now with his endless tantrums and whinging. It won't be like it forever and like gill says, your ds might just be an angel and either way you will cope and you'll be great.

Glad you managed to catch up on a bit of sleep knickers. It's amazing how much difference it makes.

I used to get the pushchair tantrum with dd. I gave up after a while, where possible, and it made a good shopping trolley.

I don't have to pay back SMP. As an incentive to return to work my company pay me an extra 20% on top of my salary after I return to work until ds is 15 months old. If I leave within 18 months of coming back to work then, depending how soon it is, I have to pay all or some of it back. We've saved most of it just in case but it's going to really come in handy if I can stick it out til May.

Nearly home time - yay! Hope everyone has a nice evening.

meandmyjoe · 27/08/2008 16:36

Glad your feeling better knickers. I know all about the pushchair tantrums and I keep my trips out without dh to a minimum! At least when dh is there there's domeone to carry Jow while I push the pushchair!

It's loads easier in a way noe ds is walking as I can get to the local park and shops just to get out the house!

If Joe's in a crap mood, I put it down to teething. I know half the time it's nowt to do with his teeth, he's just grumpy but it means that I'm a bit more sympathetic towards him rather than just thinking he's being a git!

conkertree · 28/08/2008 14:16

hi folks - quiet today. Am bored at work - again.

hope things are better today knickers. i know how tired i am getting in the evenings running after ds, and so it must be twice as bad for you with you being due soon. hope you have people who can help you out and give you a break.

helibee - i finished my first child (as opposed to baby) kilt and sent it off today, so have taken some mobile phone pictures of it as my camera has decided to go on the blink. I will get them onto the computer and email you them, and try and get my dad to send me one of the kilt I made him too.

Gill - do you know what you would like to do if you do leave your job in May?

Hersetta · 28/08/2008 16:42

Where is everyone???

Caitlin is generally much better but strangely won't touch solid food. yesterday she just had milk, breadsticks, a couple of pouches of fruit puree and a fromage frais (naturally her pooh's were delightful) but shook her head and turn away before she could even tell what was being offered (which was toast, cheese sandwhiches and cheesy pasta) all of which she really likes.Hopefully she'll start eating again when she's hungry....won't she??

lizziemun · 28/08/2008 18:30

Hersetta

Yes she will start eating again .

As for where i've been DH has been on holiday so we have been going out and about. Been to Tring musuem, Gullivers World at Milton Keynes and today Whipsnade Zoo.

I have also had my scan today and confirmed my date which is 10th March and tomorrow the swimming at Hitchen and then the dentist.

conkertree · 28/08/2008 20:26

sounds like a nice day lizziemum.

hersetta - struan is a good eater but from time to time he just has days where he wont eat normal things and wants either just fruit or either will only eat off a spoon, or refuses to eat off a spoon. He always snaps out of it after a day or two.

was lovely tonight - had his milk, did his teeth, took him upstairs for story, lights out and he did one whimper, and then was asleep. was great as quite often he stills feeds to sleep and when he doesnt, he sometimes takes a while to settle. Maybe he's finally getting this sleep thing.

Would be so nice if he could start sleeping through before this pg goes too much futher.

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 29/08/2008 12:10

Hiya, just a really quick message as we are off to mil's for the weekend and I have to go and pack and sort the kittens out. Oh, we have two now, daisy and tim- after a rocky start they now sleep, play and even poo together, the best of friends! Lots of puddles around from tim still though, yesterday I scrubbed the floor four times as James also had his nappy off, still trying to shift his nappy rash. James loves the kittens and is surprisingly gentle with them, he's forever gigglig at their antics! They keep climing up my net curtains, they're wrecked. little sods.

Sorry I've not been about much, been getting some stuff done so yes, feeling lots better finally! Only scanned the thread but I hope you're all doing ok. Back monday, have a nice weekend everyone x

OP posts:
GillL · 29/08/2008 13:53

I'm so pleased it's Friday! Only 3 hours to go and then 2 days off. I've got lots to fit in before I go but we'll be back to a full team next week so it should be easier.

Conker - I'll be looking for something admin/secretarial. I'm not really sure what exactly but I'm so fed up with what I do. I've been in call centres/helpdesks/IT Support for 10 years now and I get nothing out of it any more. A few years ago I completed an Executive PA diploma. I don't want to be an executive PA but it gave me the qualifications I wanted. Exec PA money up in London would be nice but I would think I'd have to work longer hours. I don't get enough time with the kids as it is.

Glad Struan is going to sleep better. If we catch Alex at the right time he goes down easily and we don't hear a peep out of him. Other nights he cries for ages. Yesterday he went to sleep in the car at around 5:30pm and slept through til 5:45am so dh didn't even see him til this morning.

Hersetta - It might take some time but Caitlin will starting eating properly again. I've known dd (my Katelyn) to take weeks for her appetite to return fully after an illness but she was never a good eater anyway.

Hope you have a nice time away James. Our nets and curtains were ruined when we got our last kitten. I've told dh we're not getting any more. It was his idea to replace the one who got run over. One good thing about this summer being a washout is not having to worry about Fatty and Mischief (next door) venturing into our house. Last year their older cat kept creeping into the kitchen when I was feeding Alex so I had to get Katelyn to scare him away.

Anyway - I'm hoping to get to Bluewater tomorrow to make up for last weekend. I desperately need a new pair of work shoes.

leifmum · 29/08/2008 16:42

hope the rest of your day goes quickly gill and you have a nice weekend. must be nice thinking you only hav to stay until may but i guess scary as well!

hey conker! it's always lovely when they go down without a fuss and you don't hear from them again. dd still has her bottle in her room very last thing before putting her into her cot. i know i need to change that at some point to wean her off it. maybe i'll try and give it to her tonight downstairs then go u to bed. i'm scared of disrupting what seems to be working well at the moment though!

hi james! was good to hear from you, was wondering where you and tasha have been. i'm glad you're feeling bit better. the kittens sound hard work but fab. might start looking round for some because it's really making me want to get some now!

Lizziemun - we must live fairly close to each other. dh works in welwyn garden but we live in gamlingay. hope you enjoyed whipsnade, i've got vested interest because i work for ZSL! hope you've got fun weekend planned as well. i totally missed that you were prgnant again (or i forgot). time will fly!

hope you've had a good couple of days knickers. are you beginning to feel excited
or nervous about the birth? hope it's more excitement than fear!

best go, dd has just flung all her tea on the floor so loks like she'll be having toast again.....!

lizziemun · 29/08/2008 18:54

Leifmum

I live in Luton (stopsley) by the airport.

Do you work at Whipsnade or London. I like the changes which have been made in the last few years.

Uki · 30/08/2008 11:32

Hi All

sorry not been on for a while, we have been sick, sick, sick a big roundabout of everything.
all horrible and hopefully OVER.

JB -hope ypou have nice w/e at MIl, the kittens sound georgeous, my adopted cat (he found us) is a big sook, the most affectionate cat ever, most days i have 2 dc's and the cat jumping on my lap all at once, you won't be lonely either now

leif -LL takes great delight in throwing food piece by piece too.

lizzie - wow 10th march mt ddad's b'day, that will come quick I'm sure, how exciting

anyway LL is going well, a couple of wee steps but pretty shaky, he is way into clapping all the time at the moment. He seems quite musical blowing cardboard rolls and beating drums, etc.

hope everyone else is well

leifmum · 30/08/2008 12:41

glad you're feeling better uki! have you got much planned for the weekend or just taking it easy? (if that's at all possible!)

hi lizzie - i work at london and it's great that there's been lots of changes at both sites over the past few years, long overdue! not been to whipsnade for about a year so not seen the new cheetah exhibit yet. i'll get there one day!

well dh is working all weekend so faced with the usual quandary of how to keep dd entertained! she's having nap now so planning on heading out somewhere after lunch as i think the weather's going to be pretty rubbish tomorrow.

the in laws are now speaking to dh again which is good. he's going to take dd up to see them for a couple of days the week after next. so not only will i be away from her while we're surfing but another two nights after that. i'm glad they're going up though especially as dh's grandad is in hospital at moment. he's got cancer so now they're prescribing morphine and getting macmillan involved. he should be out of hospital after the weekend though if all goes to plan.

hope everyone has lovely day

Uki · 31/08/2008 11:21

Hi leif
not up to much, took ds1 swimming, which went better than usual, also had a quick look at art exbibition with LL and did the shopping.

sorry to hear of grandadIl and Il's why is dh going if they are not talking to him? trying to fix it up?

I know how you feel about being away from dd> I will also be away from LL for 6 nights soon as I'm travelling away for work, not looking forward to it at all, i will be so lonely, and worried stiff about how dh will cope!!!

snotdroolanddirtybums · 31/08/2008 21:16

hi everyone sorry dont have time to catch up ut thought id let you all know that lo's bday party went really well yesturday. i done pass the parcel and balloon animals, well close enough to animals ill get pics on soon.

hope everyone is well and ill catch up when i get a minute

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 01/09/2008 10:38

Hi guys, hope all is well, just had a quick look through the thread.

Uki it's good to hear from you, sorry you've all been unwell, glad to hear you're all better now.

Leifmum thanks, the kittens are a lot of fun, I'll get some pics on shortly- oh we didn't call him Darwin in the end btw, his name is Tim! (and Daisy) Sorry to hear about your dh's grandad, we had all that with my mum, the macmillan nurses were amazing.

Tasha, glad lo's party went well, sounds like you had fun! Balloon animals sound ambitious!

Gill, did you end up going to bluewater after all? lol at fatty and mischief! is that their real names??

Wow knickers I didn't realise your due date was so close now! will sort out thse bits this week.

Lizzie, conker and tt, how are you guys feeling at the moment?

Helibee, James's bottom is awful right now, bright red, bit swollen, skin blistery and weeping in places. His poos are greenish and v mucousy. I've got metanium and bepanthen but he's doing a tablespoon of poo every hour or two so his bum seems constantly exposed to it and the frequent cleaning isn't helping him heal. I've tried to leave his nappy off but he's already wee'd and pooed on the carpet this morning.

Also, he isn't eating much at the moment, yesterday all he had was a piece of toast, half a jar of chicken pasta and a biscuit. He even seems unenthusiastic about his milk which is unheard of, for him. His two front teeth are through now so I'm not sure why this is happening.

OP posts:
conkertree · 01/09/2008 12:20

poor wee james - sounds like he would be miserable. Hope it sorts itself out now the teeth are through.

feeling pretty down today - not sure why as ds slept slightly better than the last few weeks last night. only up once with dh and once with me for a feed.

the due in april thread is ok but it moves really fast and people are having mc and i'm only 6 weeks, so am thinking it might be an idea not to get too involved in it until i either start getting more symptoms, or have a scan. had a wee bit of nausea yesterday and today though.

sorry - lots about me but i think james said pretty much most of what i would have said anyway - so if its ok - i'll just echo her today. thanks.

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 01/09/2008 12:39

conker, sorry you're feeling down hon. It must be quite distressing for all concerned on an antenatal thread when mc's are happening, poor things. For a lot of women there's a stage in pregnancy where they may be getting over early morning sickness, or not suffer it much/at all- the bit before they get a bump, or leaky boobs etc, where they start to wonder if they're still pregnant. There are just loads of MN threads in that vein, if you search! I didn't have much ms and couldn't feel a bump for blimmin' ages with my fat belly and I will admit to doing a pg test even after the 12 week scan, as I was so dubious!

So you must feel like you're in limbo a bit, but try not to get too stressed. Feel free to vent here whether you avoid the april thread for now or not, I've come to think of you all as friends (you and I were given the same EDD last year, remember?) and I'm sure I speak for all of us when I say we still want to hear your news and get all envious and broody support you all the way, even though most of us aren't pg right now.

OP posts:
GillL · 01/09/2008 13:20

Hello. Hope everyone's well. My weekend was ok. I went to Bluewater on Saturday. I took my mum with me. I didn't get any shoes but I did buy 2 new bras. I was struggling to cope with having to constantly wash the only 2 that I have. Yesterday I had to do the food shopping again. The dcs were getting really fed up 10 minutes in and the place was packed. I've told dh he's going to start doing it on Wednesday evenings again cos I can do without that stress on a Sunday. Katelyn fell asleep in the car on the way home and slept for 2 1/2 hours. Alex also fell asleep but woke up when I got upstairs and then was miserable for most of the afternoon because he was tired. I finally got him to bed at about 4pm and then Katelyn woke up. She'd missed her lunch so I had to sort that out and finish the washing up. Then dh arrived home at 6 saying he was surprised his dinner wasn't ready

uki - sorry to hear you've been ill. Glad you're on the mend. Alex has started to take a few shaky steps too. He seems very pleased with himself when he's done it

James - fatty and mischief are their real names. It's quite funny listening to my neighbour calling them in at night. Poor little James must be miserable. That sounds so painful. Is there anything the doctor can prescribe? Lol about the pg test after your scan.

Conker - sorry to hear you're feeling down. Hugs from me too. Perhaps it's a mixture of hormones and hearing about the mcs. I remember there were several mcs in the early days on the August ante-natal thread. It was really sad. I used to find it very difficult to keep up with all the news too. I would sometimes spend an hour just catching up on a few days posts. Hope you start to feel better soon.

Hersetta · 01/09/2008 14:13

Hi all,

hectic weekend for us as it was Caitlin's birthday yesterday. Had a lovely day together at a wildlife park - although her favourite part was playing in their enormous sand pit. Her party is next weekend and both my DH and I are regretting having one already!!

James - sorry to hear about james bot - sounds so sore for the poor mite. Caitlin is still off her food a bit - still won't touch anything like toast or a sandwich, but at least she's now eating her lunch and dinner ok - although not as much as she has done. have had to resort to baby nurofen a couple of times which has at least stopped her crying so I think her back teeth are causing her problems.

I've uploaded a couple of pics of Caitlin on her bithday to my profile for those interested.

TT - if you are out there - how was your scan??

conkertree · 01/09/2008 16:52

thanks very much gill and james (it is much nicer to be on a thread where you feel you know people rather than one with about 50 other people but I suppose ours started like that) - havent really cheered up all day - but pretty sure it is hormones cause its a bit of an irrational bad mood if you know what i mean.

have a few wee cravings and the odd wave of nausea but not much else, but i am also very much of the thought that whats going to happen will happen anyway whether you worry about it or not, so am not worried, and will just have to wait it out till i get a scan before i know for definite that things are ok.

the bra thing made me laugh gill - i dont think i have ever owned enough bras. as soon as i build up a collection, i change shape/size or i wear the older ones so long they break.

great pictures hersetta. She looks very grown up.

only 10 mins to go and can then get home. hopefully ds will sleep better tonight again, but I wouldnt bet on it.

Hersetta · 01/09/2008 17:18

That sounds very sensible Conker - I'm hoping if there is a number 2 for me that I'll be the same and I won't worry the hell out of myself about everything!!

Off out tonight for the first time in a few weeks - my friends and I are going to the BBC to watch the recording of Maestro (celebrities learing how to conduct an orchestra, they all perform and one gets voted off each week). Its the final next week so this week two are booted off!. Am quite looting forward to it - it's something different anyway!
