DP doesn't go out much at all, if he does it's normally for a drive (but his car is going to be changed tomorrow.) so it's not like I'm sat at home by myself unless he is at work, we do most things together.
I did get a bit when hi and his Dad decided earlier they are going over to look a some cars at this garage tomorrow, and I'm expected to stay home with the DC's, original plan was that we'd ask his mum to look after DD&DS1 and just take DS2, but it all changed and that annoyed me. I mean FFS do I not get a say in the car? They'll come back with some golf or something that won't fit three car seats in and I'll be fed up, if I go the it'll be practical you know? The car will be chosen for the right reasons!
We are looking at an 05 renault grand scenic, only 34,000 miles, 7 seater, diesel, alloy wheels air con etc, 7k, which I want, but if I don't go I may not be able to convince him!

scorpio1 · 26/07/2008 18:20

bloody men. He isn't even near exeter yet

When we bought our car i went with him from day dot. It just about fits all dc in (citroen c4) but we are upgrading to this

LadyBee · 26/07/2008 20:49

Oh. My. God.
Today I have clockwork baby.
I don't have a routine as such, like 7am up; 8pm nap or whatever, but I do register the time that things happen and use that to guide me a bit on what is likely to happen next - basically, I know that he's most likely to want feeding around 3hrs from start of last feed and is pretty likely to be getting tired and need a nap around 2-2.5 hrs from when he last woke up. Obviously if he starts looking hungry or tired before those times I respond, and when we're out and about he just naps or doesn't as we trundle around. That's the theory anyway, it often doesn't quite work out like that, esp if DS decides to take a catnap in the middle of a feed...
Anyway...so today rather than making veiled hints to DP about what might be going on, which is what we usually do on the weekend with DP trying to 'help' and me getting pissed off because I'm neither having a day off from being completely responsible, nor able to just freely take charge without feeling like I'm stamping on DP's efforts to care for his son, I just outright said - "ok, tell me what time he woke up, we're going to watch him at x and be ready to get him down for a nap" & "he'll be wanting to be fed around X, can you let me know as soon as you hear him make this 'ahem' sound".
And it worked!
DS cooperated which made me look like genius mum, and DP seemed to like the level of guidance too.
DS had all his naps AND went down at 7:20 without struggle.

ok, so he has now woken up again, but it's a start

Scorpio, hope DH has made it home now. Personally, I would let him know that you missed his company and would prefer that he didn't spend all day tomorrow away from you & the DC as well. It's up to him how he responds but at least you will have let him know how you feel rather than smiling and waving him goodbye and feeling annoyed at him inside.

KnitterInTheNW · 26/07/2008 22:07

Only had a chance to do a quick flick though of posts, and today I got some extra large muslin squares from toys r us. 120x120cm, 2 for £2.49. George is currently in bed in nappy, sheet grobag and swaddled in muslin. He won't sleep if there's any skin out in the open!

SalLikesCoffee · 27/07/2008 00:16

Had good night out. However, I have to stop this stupid habit I've started which involves picking a fight with DH about something or other. I'm not sure if it's because I'm slightly nervous leaving Roelof, but that's no excuse. Stopped myself just in time before I ruined the evening when I realised I'm doing it again!

Glad that your day went so well Ladybee. I think people generally fare better at something when they feel more confident about it, so fingers crossed your DH is all fired up now!

Roelof's also in bed in just his nappy and the thin growbag, but it's still awfully hot in there, so have turned on the fan in the corner, hoping the air flow will at least improve.

Also, your talk of cars reminds me: I promised DH I'll go with him to the Car Show (which I find extremely dull - had a weak moment!), and now he's so excited that he plans to take a day off next week to take R and me there...! Hmm, at least I suspect R will enjoy it about as much as I will. If we were actually planning on buying something soon, I'd really like to go, but now I'll just fake interest. Oh well, at least a day out together, which is always nice.

Mum2BabyRoo · 27/07/2008 11:00

Thanks for all the birthday messages - had a lovely day and evening. Baked cupcakes and went to the park with a few friends and their DC, and then went out for a yummy dinner with DH that evening. Got a little drunk tee hee - it was okay cos DH was on night duty! Then yesterday we went to Brighton for the day - SOOOO nice being out and about in the sun - I feel so much better for it. Today we are just chilling. Gigi is a little dream baby - she is just so good - I did wonder how she would react to a very long drive, but she was as good as gold - if she wasn't sleeping, she was cooing and gurgling away and keeping herself entertained.

Sal - you asked what I swaddle her in - a large thin cotton sheet. When it is colder - a large flannel sheet. I like the idea of the large muslins though.

Re. nurseries - Sal that is exactly how we feel about the one we have Gigi booked into. It is about 5 min from the house, and I pass it most days - and the children there always look happy - they have 2 outside play areas - one for the older children and one for babies - and amazingly - I have yet to see anyone crying when I pass by.

It is so funny reading about how you ladies have to ensure that your DP's buy sensible cars. I have a DP that is looking at a 7 seater NOW for just the 3 of us - he is very keen on having more DC - and soon - whereas I am a little unsure.

Scorpio - I wouldn't like that either - I think you are very patient. I don't even like DH having the odd night/day off - although I do let him. I hate sitting at home by myself with just DD for company while he is out having a good time.

SalLikesCoffee · 27/07/2008 11:20

Morning all.

R has his moments of being such a cool make-me-look-good baby: DH looked after him from 6 to 9:30 so that I could have a lie-in, then came over and said he's shattered, handing me a very difficult R. So I took him, fed him, put him to bed for his nap, and he's been fast asleep since. Of course I struggle sometimes when he's over tired, but lately every time DH with me when I took over, he fell asleep promptly when I put him down, so I look very impressive!

scorpio1 · 27/07/2008 15:37

Glad to hear baby's behaving themselves

DH got home at 8.30pm last night, after leaving the house at 6am. We have since hadva chat and he has taken it on board. Think he is hoping to take time off too to see Z properly.

Boiling here today, been to the park and have a lager waiting for me.

Worked out today (yes took me this long) that if i have another dc we will have 5. That is lots, yes?? Dont feel so sure - i know i want more and i think dh does too, but thats alot, especially with having to see Z and the routine of normal life just goes out the wondow when hes here.

Mimi is very happy today too, with her little summer dress on

LadyBee · 27/07/2008 20:32

Urgh, Sal - the car show sounds like my idea of hell, can't stand those sorts of trade shows..but even more when it's something I know next to nothing about and care less. You have my sympathy. But at least you'll be spending time together. And maybe there'll be cake at the end??

I have spent much of today sorting though DS's clothes and the big bundles I bought and have now washed. Managed to sort out all the stuff he doesn't fit anymore and organise all the new stuff. I now have an enormous pile of things to either hand on/box up/sell/donate. This could go on for a while

Scorpio. YES 5 is a lot of DC. You are a brave woman.

ok. Possibly TMI but how is it possible that I managed to get through my entire pregnancy with no UTI when all around me ladies were testing positive for protein. And NOW I get one. It stings when I pee.

VictorianSqualor · 27/07/2008 21:04

I got the car I wanted originally
A oyota corolla verso, 7 seater, 2006, gunmetal grey.
I love it
Can't pick it up from the garage for a week or two though as they are waiting for a replacement V5.

OP posts:
SalLikesCoffee · 27/07/2008 21:07

Now see, if I get a guaranteed cake offering after the car show I'd even ooh and ahhh in the right places.

We were supposed to join neighbours for a bbq today but decided to spend the day somewhere cooler with R, so stayed for an hour or so, then had lunch at the O2 and saw Wall-E.

Scorpio - now, at 1, 5 sounds like loads to me. But then, my mom had 4, and said it got easier and easier. I think it's only because I was obviously such a well-behaved baby. (Hmm, reality might be that, after me, she decided never again... )

VictorianSqualor · 27/07/2008 21:08

5 doesn't sound too many too me
I know Z is part of the family but he isn't there all the time s I'd just tell myself it was 4 to keep me sane

OP posts:
SalLikesCoffee · 27/07/2008 21:09

Just missed your post - congratulations, VS! . Ooh, just clicked on the link. It's lovely! Did you go with in the end or did they listen to your voice of reason from afar?

VictorianSqualor · 27/07/2008 21:15

I went, and I was right, I had to practically twist dp's arm to look at the car, he liked the outside but wasn't sold, him and his dad both preferred a mazda 5(well, his dad preferred a c-max and they both liked a couple of 5 seater saloons........)
Once they actually sat in the verso they both really liked it though.
I even got to say I Told You So

OP posts:
SalLikesCoffee · 27/07/2008 21:37

VS. Nice feeling, hey!

LadyBee · 27/07/2008 21:44

ooh, that's quite pretty for a sensible car
Well done on getting the one you wanted and the one that is so obviously the right choice for future family expansion.

gah Sunday, I don't wanna go to work tom..oh hang on, that's DP. I don't have to iron shirts or think about work outfits or anything except whether I'm going to go to the park for tomorrow's heat or not.

I'm very happy (just so long as I can delay peeing), DP has just brought me an icecream sundae with cream and syrup and a cherry on top. I told him I needed a bit of nurturing. He's sooo great

Mum2BabyRoo · 27/07/2008 21:48

Sal - how was R at the movies? It is not something I have even considered - taking Gigi to the movies. Was he in his sling/your lap the whole time? Did he just sleep and if not, was he happy being still for so long?

Nice car VS - won't show it to DH! lol

5!!!! children Scorpio Rather you than me!

Hmm- you rememinded me that I have all Gigi's 3-6 month stuff to wash LadyBee - might do that tomorrow - supposed to be the hottedt day of the year!

I'm also meeting Carey87 and her LO tomorrow - really looking forward to that!

SalLikesCoffee · 27/07/2008 22:07

Mum2BR - he was fine, but to be honest, I think I prefer the "Big Scream" viewings at the Picturehouse as I was worried that today's movie was a bit loud for his ears, so covered them for the first bit (previews and ads). Luckily it was ok once the movie itself started. As far as sitting stil / being happy - he loves the movies! I took him in his pram (O2 let you take the pram in with you), but had him on my lap during the movie as he started feeding and then fell asleep in my arms later. While he was awake he was perfectly happy looking at the screen, I think he loves the lights and movement (he did however start "singing" during the High School Musical preview, which was so funny).

The nice part of O2's cinema is that it is lovely and cool inside, and they allow babies. I'm a bit confused about whether or not Greenwich Picturehouse allows babies at the normal screenings, as I've heard conflicting stories. Their Baby Screenings (Wednesday and Friday at 11:30) are nice though, but not so cool (temperature).

eva07 · 27/07/2008 22:59

wow, cinema... can't remember the last time I've been. sounds nice, sal!

ladybee, uti is awfull. I've had it during pregnancy a few times. eating loads of cranberries and drinking water with a bit of bicarb (tastes awful) helps. especially the bicarb. poor you. hope it's over soon.

vs, nice car

SalLikesCoffee · 28/07/2008 09:55

Good morning!

Ladybee, have you been to the drs or bought anything? If not, maybe you should, as at least that way it'll be back to normal quickly.

scorpio1 · 28/07/2008 10:14

morning

i am thinking like that VS - Z is only here holidays and dh would have to have the time off or stay away with Z. finding him v v v hard already - im sorry but i dont want him here. i dont see why i shouldt have 4 because i have a stepson iyswim.

Anyway, looking forward to coming up to london, vs are you coming?

VictorianSqualor · 28/07/2008 10:22

Yep, I'm coming. No idea how hard it's going to be to get there though! I know the Oxford Tube calls at
Hillingdon
Shepherd's Bush
Notting Hill Gate
Marble Arch
Victoria

So I'm sure one of the lovely London Mners can tell me which stop to get off at and what to get on to get to the meet-up???

I do see what you mean with Z. If DH was happy to have 4 and Z then no problem but why should you lose out on a child of yours because of him right?

I think you're quite like me with the 4 children thing anyway aren't you, it's not a case of wanting an extra child, it's like one of them is missing?

OP posts:
scorpio1 · 28/07/2008 10:30

yep, the whole missing thing and dont see why i should miss one FOREVER because dh had unprotected sex has another child.

BTW i have no clue of london. Please can i have the address and postcode of where we may meet so i can GPS it on dhs iphone please? lol (so it does have a use!!)

scorpio1 · 28/07/2008 10:31

dh does want another - he said last night. i dont want to yet though....

SalLikesCoffee · 28/07/2008 10:44

VS - do you have to take the tube? I worked in Oxford one day a week a couple of years ago, and used to take the train from Paddington to Oxford. It's direct and takes 1 hour. From Paddington you can then get on the Bakerloo line to Waterloo - 15 mins. But I'll have a look at the other options you suggested, for all I know that might be even easier...

Scorpio, I'll get the details in one sec.

This is great, can't wait to meet you too.
