EllieG · 25/07/2008 21:07

I will put on some taken from the waist up as my arse still looks humungous and I will not have photos of it on the internet.

scorpio1 · 25/07/2008 21:08

I do, VS. Though i find being a SP very hard.

LadyBee · 25/07/2008 21:15

yay! DS is down, dinner will be ready in 20mins and I have a glass of wine (pinot grigio) at my side. Feel knackered but not stressed and that makes a huge difference I think.
I can't believe that's another week done, when I was first off I felt that each week lasted forever and forever, now they seem to whizz by

HUGE CONGRATULATIONS for tomorrow Ellie, I'd forgotten that it had been postponed to tomorrow. So what will the day involve for you all? details details please

VictorianSqualor · 25/07/2008 21:16

Sadly, I find being a parent to DD very hard. I love her but not the way I love the DS's and I know that;s down to the PND, and probably my own relationship with my mother, I try fucking hard though.

OP posts:
scorpio1 · 25/07/2008 21:18

Agree with PND. Someone from Family Services down here helps me bond with ds1 by giving me little stepping stones to try to get closer - i recognised that very feeling you just described and told ds1 headteacher, and she linked me up with them. it helps, yknow? Especially since having Mimi i realise what having a baby should be about.

Don't beat yourself up, lovely.

LadyBee · 25/07/2008 21:24

That must be hugely tough VS, but I'm sure that just by recognising the different way you feel you compensate for it.

VictorianSqualor · 25/07/2008 21:36

Oh yes, I'm determined that unless DD has problems bonding herself she will never know.

I just asked ehr when putting her to bed (she ahs been up having popcorn n crisps n films with me) if I could be a better mum in anyway, she took ten minutes to say that I should let ehr hold Alex more, but she keeps banging his head, so I said 'hmm, you may thnk so but I bet alex wouldn't sya'ooh mum you could be better by letting ella bang my head more foten'' She found it amusing and I knwo she has had a good night. I have so much respect fort hose of you that are step parents.

I know what you mean though Scorpio, I make a real effort to treat her the way I would if it was Bobby or Alex.

bearmama · 25/07/2008 21:58

DP has 9 Y/O DD who has thankfully bonded with her baby sister very well over her last few visits.
It helped that I said soon she would be able to boss her little sister about (elder sister is 19 and really keeps her in line!)

EllieG, congratulations! Have a wonderful time tomorrow .

DD stirred and I went to sit with her. She grizled like mad but never properly woke up but managed to cover amazing amount of space. She can turn her whole body 45 degrees which is impressive I think!

scorpio1 · 25/07/2008 22:02

Bearmama - wow at your dds eyes!!!

Sal22 · 25/07/2008 22:12

Ellie, best of luck for tomorrow! What a special day for all of you! Can't wait to see the pics.

The birthday dinner was ok, but I do find myself wanting to talk about R all the time and then reminding myself to shut up since, whilst I'm sure they're happy for me, they don't really care (no kids yet). It's great that I know with you lot I can just be myself.

DH was boiling when I got home, sweating etc etc - think he had a fever. I gave him some tablets and he's now sleeping. Really hope it's nothing contagious.

On a cheerful note - I walked past a new nursery this afternoon, decided to go in, and it's absolutely lovely!!! Met all 3 staff, so brilliant, and they were amazing with this little baby there. They've also got an opening for next year, so I'm going to book a place for in case I want to go back to work in January. This is such a relief, as the nursery I viewed the other day broke my heart, and unless I work silly hours again, I can't afford a private nanny.

VictorianSqualor · 25/07/2008 22:19

Sal, the nursery I sent Bobby too were amazing. I adored them, I turned up at random times for the first few weeks and he was always being hugged or smiling in a high chair or asleep.
Some nurseries are FAB.

OP posts:
LadyBee · 25/07/2008 22:54

That's great Sal - what's the nursery called?
I'm always curious to know how they work with babies. How much care they give them, good to hear good reports.

bearmama · 25/07/2008 22:56

Thanks scorpio1 - cannot claim the credit, tis DP who has blue eyes, mine are brown. Am hoping they stay blue, everyone comments on them.

Sal22 · 25/07/2008 23:52

VS, that's so good to hear. As we lived too far from town, I never went to a nursery - my mom taught us to read and write etc before we went to school, so I don't really know how things are "supposed" to look. I've therefore decided to go on the children's reaction. If the equipment looks stimilating, the environment safe and the children happy, it's right for me. Oh, and it helps if the staff don't look bored out of their minds as that woman the other week did. Surely, if kids annoy you, a nursery might not be the best place in the world to work!

Ladybee, this is the place. I am a bit confused about the "childminders" thing (they don't advertise themselves as a nursery, but rather as a childminding service). (I don't care either way btw, I liked what I saw - I turned up unannounced and everything was clean, this baby was being cuddled, he looked so happy and they really looked as if they love children.) The ground floor that I saw is arranged as a nursery - two big rooms with all the nursery equipment you find anywhere else, the garden is being arranged for the kids only (e.g. a play area, but they will also be able to plant and tend to vegetables apparently), and additional toilets will be built at the back for the children. Sounds like a nursery to me. Maybe it's something to do with their qualifications?

Sal22 · 25/07/2008 23:55

Oh yes, and best of all - it's five minutes walk away from us!

scorpio1 · 26/07/2008 10:57

FFS

DH has gone to get Z and there is a big crash on the motorway M5 (not FFS-ing at that btw)and now DH wants to go to Surrey to see his parents...i am gonna be here alone for all day now AGAIN

scorpio1 · 26/07/2008 10:58

Sal - my dcs nursery/school club thing is only 3 minutes away, dc love it there and have been going since R was 12 months. Hoping Mimi might go for a morning after Xmas, just to give me a few hours a week.

Sal22 · 26/07/2008 11:31

It's such a relief to hear the dc actually love it there, as it was a bit of a new area for me. I might see if they've got a couple of hours a week opening earlier so that R can gradually get used to the set-up, and I can use the time to do some studying again, which I've been really lazy about the last couple of months (exams early Dec).

For some stupid reason I didn't go to be last night after I came back - was up until after 2am..., just wasn't tired. This morning it feels as if I was hit by a bus. And we've got an engagement thing to go to tonight, but luckily have to leave at 10, as babysitter only booked until 11.

Oh, and I had loads of milk this morning! Hehehe, even got excited when it leaked a little.

scorpio1 · 26/07/2008 11:43

good idea IMO to get him settled in my nursery they only have up to 6 babies at once, and a lovely room. you need to check sleeping, highchairs, will they let you use BLW there, also whats included - nappies, food, milk (if ff). check staff - do they look happy, are they engaging babies? are toys always out? when do they go outside? suncream? etc etc

1 hand typing!

Sal22 · 26/07/2008 12:41

Thanks for the nursery tips. I'm booking an appointment so that DH can go and view with me for a second opinion, but I just feel so right about this one. It is such a relief, as I got a bit worried about the options around here (I only liked one other nursery, but it's unlikely that I'll get a space there until March next year, and it'll take at least 30 mins to get there by bus, most likely more in traffic). One of the ladies I met in baby massage said she'll do nanny share with me for 3 days a week next year, so even if I did that, I'd need to provide cover for the other two, and it would cost more obviously.

Hmm, I wonder - what's your take on mixed care? Because even if I did the shared nanny, it'll mean that R is at our place for 3 days a week, the nursery 2 days a week, and then the next week 3 days at her place, 2 days at the nursery. I'm concerned that this might confuse him a bit, so am tempted to go for full-time nursery. What do you think?

scorpio1 · 26/07/2008 12:49

I personally love nurseries. Varied care, people, activities and one place iyswim. Also, people watching each other all the time could mean less room for 'mistakes' or heaven forbid, neglectful behaviour.

Also i enjoy nursery being there because if i have a hairdressers appt or something they can go in there and its easy to get extra time

Sal22 · 26/07/2008 13:07

Yes, that makes sense. Also, with there being 3 of them, the risk of having to arrange emergency cover (or not go to work) when/if the nanny is sick is reduced, as well as removing the nanny's holiday's cover issue. The flexibility sound great. I think if my dh likes this as much as I do, I'm going to stick with full time there then - he agrees that, in principle, it sounds like the ideal plan.

We're out of milk, bread, food in general... And I can't be fussed enough to go to the shops. So thus far I had a piece of cheddar (on it's own!) and a coffee for breakfast. Oh, just saw the time - maybe I should get to the shops now, as even I can't have the same for lunch, lazy or not.

scorpio1 · 26/07/2008 13:09

my dh just lets me decide everything....cant work out wether that is better or not, lol!

so dh is in woking now

scorpio1 · 26/07/2008 15:44

Am a bit pissed off. Here alone again with dc, DH on way home from Surrey but will be hours.

Fed up of doing it alone alot - he asked last night if he could go fight training tomorrow for the afternoon - WTF is the point of having Z here?? He is working all next week and wanted to spend his one whole day off out without any of the dc!!

When he said bye this morning i just thought i keep hearing that word; he has a really busy life alone most of the time and i always have dc.

What about the rest of you?

Sal22 · 26/07/2008 16:33

Hmm, I wouldn't like it either. Does he know you feel a little isolated and would like to spend more time with him?

Here we've returned from the exciting activity of grocery shopping... But at least we've had some proper food again, so an improvement overall I guess.

Leaving for the party in an hour and a half and would rather sleep or go to a quiet movie with DH! Not staying long though, as have to be back by 11.
