DH is home for 2 weeks from next week . But I am a bit worried he might wonder what I do with my time (too much MNing!)

Mum2BabyRoo · 30/07/2008 16:51

VS - in order to get your DS christened, do you have to go to the same church every week? Just asking cos the church we go to at the mo doesn't do christenings, but rather dedications. I would like a christening, but just wonder how keen a church would be to take us on if we don't attend it.

Met some more mums today and had a picnic in the park with them, then went to a Sing and Sign summer lesson - basically a one off session to see if you like it enough to sign you baby up for a term. I loved it - Gigi fell asleep! Only prob is they need to be about 6 months old and she is 3! Next term startes Sept - she will still be too young, and the term after that is Jan. So I guess we start then. Want to look into swimming lessons as well for her - think that will be great fun too! Baby massage starts tomorrow - v. excited for that!

VictorianSqualor · 30/07/2008 17:38

I've never been to this Church, ever.

OP posts:
SalLikesCoffee · 30/07/2008 18:20

Mum2BR, do you mind me asking - where did you go for the Sing and Sign? I'm going to do baby signing with him, but thought I'd just buy the dvd and do it on my own. However, a group does sound like more fun! Enjoy the massage tomorrow!

Seems like loads of DH's at home at the moment. DH took tomorrow off as well (but I agreed to go to that stupid car show with him...) We're also visiting the nursery that I like together though, and then just whatever. I'm kind of tempted to put R in his pram and go for a stroll next to the thames and then lunch at one of the pubs there.

SalLikesCoffee · 30/07/2008 18:27

Mum2BR - Hmm, might be totally uncalled for, so please feel free to ignore, I wasn't actually sure whether or not I should ask, but our church (it's in Canada Water) does Christenings as well, but I'm not sure what their take is if you don't attend it. Let me know if you want me to find out, as it's a really lovely minister (our age). He'd visit you first if you're interested in finding out more too. Only snag - it's in Afrikaans, but you could ask for the specific Sunday's service to be in English if you want.
If not, I think most english churches (or for all my friends here anyway) you don't have to attend every sunday.

scorpio1 · 30/07/2008 19:52

it's really easy to teach signing. Jamie was a signing baby; really fascinating for passers by in public, lol! I'm going to teach Mimi too, in a few weeks i will start signing milk and food when she is weaning. Also please and thankyou. Toilet ones are good to teach about 18 months too.

Rainy and minging here.

SalLikesCoffee · 30/07/2008 20:09

Oh Scorpio, I'm so glad to be able to talk to someone that's actually done that. I was discussing signing with my friend this afternoon, and she wondered whether that wouldn't delay speach. But from what I've read, it's actually good for that and help increase their vocabulary once they start talking. If you want to do this with Mimi as well, I assume it didn't delay at all?

scorpio1 · 30/07/2008 20:57

No it doesn't delay, as long as you say the words and dont silent sign. They naturally just drop them when they start talking; Jamie used to sign about 40 signs; now we just sign 'love you' and 'friends' to each other for our little secret iyswim

SalLikesCoffee · 30/07/2008 21:21

Smiling at your "little secret". How cute.

scorpio1 · 30/07/2008 21:22

i would really recommend it

EllieG · 30/07/2008 21:35

Oh that's really sweet. I want a signing baby. How soon can you start? Did you do a course or teach yourself from book?

Am going for last baby massage course session tomorrow - Molly loves it now and I do a little bit before bed every night - her little face is so lovely, she wriggles and giggles and generally chills out loads.

We got her christened as important to both me and DH though I don't go to church much, I would count myself as a spiritual person, and like to think whoever's up there is looking out for her! Plus my Mum is the vicar so think she would've lynched me if she couldn't have christened her grandchild! She married us too.

scorpio1 · 30/07/2008 21:38

about 6 months the best. I did a course whe nJamie was small, then just continued teaching him more and more. I will just bypass the course this time

chipmonkey · 30/07/2008 23:17

Right, I keep reading these threads and not actually saying anything and then they are not on my "threads I'm on" so I am now signing in!

chipmonkey · 30/07/2008 23:19

Love the thread title BTW! MIL is going to start on about solids around about now as she did with SIL so I will dutifully stand in front of her hand on heart singing "We shall not be moved!"

VictorianSqualor · 31/07/2008 09:23

LOL CM
MiL just lets me get on with it, she's good like that, she knows that I've researched it all and when she asked me about it she just said 'what's the weaning age supposed to be now?'

Not sure she realised the lecture she was letting herself in for but she knows that I know what I'm talking about and respects that so phew!

DP is off to get our new car today

scorpio1 · 31/07/2008 09:54

ooh i love getting new stuff

Mimi woke at 3 and 5 last night maybe in for a growth spurt? oh fabbo.

Still looking for Scampmum...

SalLikesCoffee · 31/07/2008 10:15

Roelof was, what felt like, awake all night. I'm shattered! Now of course the little mister is sleeping like, well, a baby...

I'm going to a weaning class held by the HV tomorrow and quite looking forward to it.

scorpio1 · 31/07/2008 10:16

its easy sal - shove food infront of them, let them get stuck in!! at 26 weeks though

VictorianSqualor · 31/07/2008 10:19

Lex was up every hour or so last night too.
Starting at 11pm when we went to bed, then he fed, fell asleep and the minute I put him down he screamed, did that twice and in decided to let him sleep with us. He finally went to sleep about midnight, then woke up about 3x before 4:30, at which time he whinged until 6am, fed, slept til 7:30, whinged til 8:30.

Defo growth spurt, he's feeding again now.

OP posts:
scorpio1 · 31/07/2008 10:21

vs - i reckon mimi is having one too - feeds at 3, 5 , 7, 9...normally just one feed by now - 8am.

arrrgghh

dss still here too.

scorpio1 · 31/07/2008 10:58

feeding again....

dh has got rained off and is taking boys to soft play later

SalLikesCoffee · 31/07/2008 11:07

lol at your weaning instructions, scorpio. Sounds messy but doable

Makes me feel slightly cheered up knowing at least we're all going through the same thing every now and again.

DH at home today. He seems to be immune to the smell of a dirty nappy - we take turns, and I have to point it out, he never realises on his own. And whilst I know it's brilliant that he changes as well, I wonder how long a change will be overdue when they're alone!

scorpio1 · 31/07/2008 11:21

Men don't notice as much as us - my DH is fab with dc but does need pointing out sometimes. I always say to him if he was a SAHD i would get home and they would have played ps3 all day and eaten crisps.

EllieG · 31/07/2008 12:06

DH is upstairs dealing with poo as we speak...hee hee hee. Glad it's not just mine that occasionally throws in some wakeful nights. Molly always seems to wake at about 12.30/1.00 but goes back to sleep after a pat and a dummy. Did it a few times last night though - didn't want feeding just she's not very good at getting herself back to sleep when she's woken up, and needs her mummy to help her I think. How long does that go on? I try not to make too much of it, just give her a pat and she has a tiny little blanket thing she has taken to snuggling up with which calms her, but it still goes on. Will I still be getting up to pat her 3 times a night when she's 5 do you think? [sighs]

scorpio1 · 31/07/2008 12:25

you might be Ellie, lol.

DH has just taken the dc out - yay yay yay
