We're still not sleeping, if that's any consolation to anyone! We had two magical nights of 7-2 and 3-7, but now we are back at 11.30pm, 2am, and then awake from 4.45am until about 7.
But with DH off next week, I am going to be brave and start trying to sort out the sleep, rather than immediately picking her up so she doesn't disturb DH.

A has had a funny neck since she was born - she's all lopsided. The nurse at the GP's said "Oh, that's normal. My nephew had that, and now he's 22, you can barely notice it at all". So we are going to a specialist next week, and hopefully that will cheer her up a bit and make life a bit easier for us all.

chipmonkey · 31/07/2008 13:19

Had ds4 weighed today by the PHN( Irish HV) he is now 6.8 kilos = almost 15lb. But tbh she really is lovely and very unconcerned about centiles etc. She just said that as he is exclusively bf he can do what he wants! She also did ds3's developmental check up while he was there and was very happy with him, which is always a relief with ds3 as he was prem.

VictorianSqualor · 31/07/2008 13:29

Our HV's are pretty much like that CM.

Always reassuring, and on the ball. I said that DS's weight gain has slowed down lately (only put on a couple of ounces a week rather than half a pound + like he was) but that I was happy with it and the first thing she said was 'It's not a sign for weaning don't let it worry you, it's perfectly normal'

I'm sat here with all this info to throw back at the and I don't need to lol.

Also, I just got this letter from the Campaigns Support Officer at the NCT! She must have searched their records to find my address as I ordered a publication from them once.

I am writing to congratulate you on the success of your recent campaigning
event in Oxford, calling on the Government to use the Single Equality Bill
to provide breastfeeding mothers throughout the UK an explicit right to
breastfeed in public places when they are out and about with their babies.

I saw the press coverage of the event and it looks like you had a lot of
support. I also wanted to compliment you on the way you used the press
coverage to highlight good practice and raise awareness of local services
which provide good support for breastfeeding mothers whilst highlighting bad
practice to demonstrate the need for legislation.

The Government has indicated that it will be guaranteeing women across the
UK an explicit right to feed in public places for the very first time when
the single equalities bill is announced in the Queen's speech in November.
As you know, although there is a law which protects women's right to
breastfeed in Scotland since 2003, up until now women in the UK have no
explicit right to breastfeed in public places when they are out and about
with their babies. Instead they have had to rely on changing public
attitudes and the implicit protection of the sex discrimination laws. We
hope the Single Equality Bill will change that. The Bil has not yet been
published and there ahs been some concern the Bill would only protect a
woman's right to breastfeed her baby until it is six months old. The NCT
would not fully support a bill which puts an age limit on a woman's right to
breastfeed but cannot comment on the Bill until it is published. We will be
keeping you up to date on our campaign for a UK-wide legal right to
breastfeed in public places and ways in which you can get involved and
support us through NCT Active, out activists network once we have seen the
legislation.

I would like to invite you to join NCT Active, the NCT's Activist network

wow vs, that's great. hope you nominated yourself already, I'm looking forward to this article

sagitta, we are not sleeping either. well, me and N are not sleeping. DP is sleeping through the night now as he got used to N's crying. good boy...

sagitta · 31/07/2008 15:49

DH says they only thing that wakes him is not A's crying, its mine

chipmonkey · 31/07/2008 15:53

Great response from the NCR, VS!

TheMaskedPoster · 31/07/2008 16:01

VS - superb response from the Campaigns Support Officer, well done you!

LadyBee · 31/07/2008 16:06

You rock VS!

Yay! Am back on t'internet, stoopid ISP seems to keep messing us up when they say they're upgrading our speed. Wish they'd just leave it alone and we'd be able to satisfy my mn addiction use the damned thing when we wanted.

Babies are funny aren't they? DS had two days of doing that side preference thing, to the point of throwing a complete tantrum when I dared to put him down on the side he'd been perfectly happy with last time. Then yesterday he hardly was interested in feeding at all. Now today he's been guzzling. I wake each day now wondering what sort of baby I'll have today.

Fingers crossed our sleep seems to heading back in the right direction, he's doing a 11:30-5:30 stretch now, and going down reasonably happily at 7:30 in the evening and again after his early morning feed. My troubles now are getting him to go back down when he wakes about an hour after going down the first time, and the fact that he doesn't seem to be very interested in feeding around 7 in the morning, which leaves me quite uncomfortable (but with lots to express so not all bad). Am going to work on the re-settling thing first by trying to make sure he's had a good feed earlier on - perhaps before bath and then again after. Because at the moment when he wakes at 8:30pm the only thing that works to get him back down is feeding. Will give it a go anyway.

We won't be christening DS. I wasn't christened and DH doesn't want to (he's a different religion). I wanted to do a naming ceremony but now it seems a bit 'late' so I think what I'll do is incorporate some element involving DS into our wedding ceremony next year (which will also not be in a church if DH can help it).

Met up with a friend yesterday with her 4 week old DD, who she says is about 9lbs now, but when I look at her DD and remember what my DS was like when he came out at 9 lb 3, I can't believe her. Her DD looks so diddy. Surely DS was never so small and fragile looking??

Feel so disorganised at the moment - baby signing, massage, childcare, these are all things I keep meaning to get signed up for and do..but can barely get my credit card payment done on time let alone complete an online supermarket shop, finish the clothes chore that has been going on for days, hoover etc etc. I need a PA.

And a financial advisor. It occurred to me that my mat leave pay is about to end fairly soon and I haven't exactly been living to a budget. Bad bad ladybee. Must try harder.

LadyBee · 31/07/2008 16:17

hmm, get me referring to DP as DH when I start thinking about the wedding (not for a year yet)...

BTW hope specialist can do something about A's neck Sagitta

Sal - I'm thinking about starting reusables too, have just about narrowed down to a couple I'm going to try out. I think putting the nappies in a separate bag each week really makes it clear how much we go through doesn't it! I think even if I didn't use cloth every single time, it was reduce it by a bit..

Ellie - I'm sure you looked radiant...get those pics up lady!

Theirmum, nice to have you back and a supportive shoulder rub from me, good on you for getting help and I'm pleased it's working for you.

SalLikesCoffee · 31/07/2008 18:20

Well, got back from the car show not long ago and it was actually quite nice. I'm not into cars at all (neigher is DH really, but he got the tickets free at work so thought we might as well go), but it was a nice family outing, I actually had fun (half of it laughing at the rediculous cars people would pay silly money for).

I'm so rubbish with budgeting too. I know I should make more of an effort. Luckily I'm so disorganised lately that I actually forget to buy the online stuff that I've put in my "basket", and can't be bothered to go to the shops, so at least that helps a bit. But I have to say, I'm close to singlehandedly making the local coffee shop owner a millionaire.

EllieG · 31/07/2008 20:44

Finances also not my strong point...had mild panic today when realised how much am spending every month, and that have nowt coming in. Oops. Am going to be brassic and selling meself at this rate to make ends meet. Not sure would make that much though as still rather wobbly. Have heard there is a market for men who want to be treated like babies though, so might fit in well with the daily routine

Oh god, what rubbish am talking.

Hurray for you VS! You are champion lady we are v proud of you x

Am going to try not giving dream feed tonight and see what happens - she only takes 2 oz at best and I think it might wake her up more than needed. But we shall see. She will then wake about 12.30 for feed but one then might take her through til a bit later. What do people think? If dreamfeed she needs another one at 3.30. If don't will be about 12.30 and 5ish. Not sure if that is a step forward or not though....so confusing.

Also confusing - children's savings accounts. Am looking to open one for Molly-moo when she is 18 or 21 and is hard, not being a very finacially astute person. Are any of you financial advisors? Was looking at the Chorley Building Society Foxley fund account.

Denny185 · 31/07/2008 20:45

Hello all, back again. MIL was deposited at train station at this pm, she was actually really helpful while here but glad to have the house to myself tonight (DH at work too).

Had a quick read through the last week but too much to remember so advance appologies if I miss something vital. Welcome back TLSM hope your feeling more yourself nice to hear from you again.

VS thats a great letter the NCT have sent you, must feel really good to know all your hard work is paying off and results are starting to happen.

Baby signing, I never used it (was too dam lazy to go to classes, coffee mornings always had a greater appeal) but a couple of friends did and it def didnt hinder their verbal communication. One of the little girls (2.2yrs) can have a full on conversation quite amazing.

Congratulations Ellie cant wait to see some pics.

Sal, glad you enjoyed the car show. Have you ever worked out how much you spend on coffee?

We have had a v busy week with trips to parks, swimming, paddling pools, trip to Manchester, trying to tidy a very neglected garden and generally enjoying the great weather. Shame it seems to be over again now.

Aeryn is doing really well, she's still sleeping 12 hours a night (generally) and has started rolling, she has really started finding her voice with lots of cooing and shouting its great. Oh and had her weighed today 16lb5

Denny185 · 31/07/2008 20:53

Ellie she may surprise u and still go till 3.30, dream feeding didnt make a jot of difference to wake/feed times with Aeryn.

EllieG · 31/07/2008 20:55

I doubt she will surprise me....I want a 12 hour sleeping baby too [stamps foot petulantly]

Might stick some gin in her bottle

Denny185 · 31/07/2008 22:04

TBH, she may wake up and i just dont hear her due to the ear plugs and pillow over head

LadyBee · 31/07/2008 22:51

Actually I was wondering whether once I move DS into his cot for his overnight sleep whether he'll go through or I just won't know he's awake. At the moment I hear him when he's waking up and end up feeding him before he's barely squeaked. So I'm not really giving him the chance to resettle, am I?
I got DS to sleep through his normal first waking at 8:30 , just went up a bit before the hour was up, and patted him when he started stirring. He just mumbled a bit and carried on sleeping.

Good News: my uti appears to be going away by itself (well, with lots of cranberry juice) & I do believe my stretch marks are starting to fade
Bad News: I now have a sinus infection and my hair has started falling all over place.
On balance, I still feel a bit crap. Think I may need start on the spatone and some b vits again.

SalLikesCoffee · 31/07/2008 22:53

VS, I'm so proud of you, you mean so much to others, so I do hope you nominated yourself!

Ellie, you can cover the baby fetish freaks, I'll go for the one's with the uhm, bigger lady preferences

I don't really know how much I spend, which is shocking me more than anything. Always varies between around £6 minimum to around £12, a couple of times a week, which is really just rediculous. However, I'm not really sure how to get around it, as I'm not sure if I want to invite people I barely know in some cases to my place, but on the other hand, I could just put on the kettle... Urgh. My plan of the moment is to retrict myself to coffee only up to 3 times a week, and one meal out a week.

Sulk of the moment (sorry, had some wine with a friend, so bear with me) - I keep considering giving up breastfeeding every morning when I get unreasonably cross with poor R when he cries when I try to breastfeed. Am I that bad? I know I'm being a moron, so sorry, just wanted to cry in friendly ears. At least my supply's back up to normal, and he drinks fine at night and first thing in the morning when he's still asleep. And during the day when we're alone he'd drink after some persuasion. But every morning I feel like crying. O well. I made my friend promise me tonight to stuff all other people being uncomfortable with her feeding in public when she's got a baby one day. She must think I'm a nutter.

SalLikesCoffee · 31/07/2008 22:55

Ladybee, same here with the hair. It's literally hands full. Maybe I should save that coffee money and invest in a wig.

LadyBee · 31/07/2008 22:55

hmm double post with extra formatting..cool

LadyBee · 31/07/2008 23:04

Poor Sal - it's horrible when LOs cry when you're trying to feed them. I experienced that a bit a couple of days ago when DS absolutely screamed when I tried to feed him on a side he decided he hated. I felt about the size of a squashed pea, it feels like such a rejection doesn't it? But you know it's not a conscious rejection of you, he's just getting used to it again and might be frustrated that he's not getting milk immediately like he would with a bottle.
Oops - got to go - sir is calling.

SalLikesCoffee · 31/07/2008 23:18

Thanks Ladybee. Yep, that's about the feeling - so completely and utterly useless. No, even more than useless, it's as if I don't care for him because quite obviously I'm torturing him (or I think he feels this way, because he's really unhappy, and all he wants is a little sip of milk from a bottle). And then I get cross, thinking "but I try so hard", and then I realise this and get cross with myself for getting cross in the first place.

Good night all.

xxx

VictorianSqualor · 31/07/2008 23:35

Sal, am just off to bed, don't do anything drastic, if you need to use a bottle do it. We'll talk in the morning.

btw DS2 has been a fucker at feeding lately, he hasn't had bottles for weeks, it's his teeth, the heat, his growth spurt and his annoyance at hunger. R could well be the same.
