Hello people, is anyone there?

skidaddle · 12/11/2008 10:34

yuk wizz, poor DS. Hope he feels better soon. It always astonishes me just how much babies throw up even when they're not ill.

amani - thank you for coming back and I'm really sorry we scared you off. It sounds really hard and I do wonder if there is something wrong like teething pain as it sounds like something is waking her. Milo has just got much better with only one wake a night after 2-3 months of it being pretty bad and I think it was due to his teeth. I know it is so hard but hopefully you are coming to the end of a cycle soon. Does she go through phases of relatively good sleep and then really bad? If so it might be here excema/teething or something waking her?

wintersapproaching (soon to bewintershere?) I have done a few 10ks but don;' know what to advise really. Is your injury better now? I think I might try to really go for it this week and then take it a bit easier next week with a rest day before the actual race? Good luck!

melly - well done to kaesha on her four steps!!! I absolutely love that stage when they have just started to walk alone - sooooo cute!

cazzy - no real walking or talking in my house either. Just as well he is a looker

I have stopped feeding DS in the day now. Easy (ish) when I'm at work but more difficult when I'm with him and he is pulling at my top shouting MUMUMU! I have had two blocked ducts though since I stopped - bl**dy hurts and makes me feel really sad that this is the begining of the end. My little baby is growing up

Wizzska · 12/11/2008 12:54

Poor little boy, has been sick another two times. I hate being at work and not able to go to him. Am trying to get DH to take him to the docs.

Typically, am trying to get ahead of housework as Brother and SIL (clean freak) coming at weekend and the usual mount everest of washing takes ages to process. Now the whole flat stinks of sick and I have double the washing and nowhere to dry it all in time. I know that come 10 pm tonight I'll still be trying to scrub dry sick out of our seagrass flooring. DH won't have done it.

Skid, well done on taking that step of stopping the day feeds.

claireyBANG · 12/11/2008 13:06

Amani I hope you didn't mind me linking to your thread, I just knew there were several of us with similar issues and thought knowing that might help you feel better about it.

Have also realised that although I say DS eats he actually doesn't eat huge amounts, gave him a jar the other day and he only ate about half a 7 month one-a 10 month one would probably do 3 meals! It seems loads to me though after dd's 2 mouthfuls and he does actually eat 3 meals plus snacks which she didn't do until she was almost 2.

Skid I am scared of the pain when I stop bf! Partly why I want DS to self wean I guess...DD must have gradually cut down her feeds without me even noticing because I had no pain at all when she started to refuse to feed and she was only 5 months! DS misses a couple of feeds and I'm in agony though! Problem is I can't see him self weaning anytime soon and I don't know how much longer I am comfortable with so I think I will have to help him along a little, maybe try to cut down his daytime feeds a bit so he is only having a couple but like you say the Mumumum and top pulling makes it really difficult (was at toddlers the other day stood up holding him and he managed to pull my top down and latch himself on without me even noticing , it was only my friend saying "Oh just help yourself there Douggie" that made me realise!).

Wizz hope it is nothing too serious and that Rory recovers soon, poor baby. I always get really upset when mine are ill and DH thinks I am a loon for it!

Beckle did you buy a wheelybug while you were lurking on ebay? I saw one on there for £42 free p&p but didn't look any further so don't know if it was a new one.

Anyone know how Caz is, she hasn't been on for a while and she seemed to be finding life a bit hectic the last few times she posted.

skidaddle · 12/11/2008 13:23

Oh poor Rory, wizz, I hope he feels better soon. And sympathies on the cleaning front. My SIL is also a clean freak and I always get myself a bit stressed when she's coming as I know it will never be clean enough for her..

clairey - at Douggie helping himself and you not noticing!!! It's difficult, isn't it? I find I now plan around feeds so i don't have to feed milo in public because I think people will find it gross. I often feed him just before I go out hoping that will do him until we get back. it's silly but I do feel self-conscious about it. At my dad's party on saturday I fed him during a speech and he was all slurpy and noisy and I was mortified! I would love for him to self-wean but also would love for him to self-wean about now! I think I will carry on with morning and nights for a few more months and hopefully stop very gradually avoiding pain (me) and trauma (him) ... we'll see...

Amani · 12/11/2008 13:28

Thanks guys - feeling really stressed today - has a very unprofessional out burst at work which is so unlike me as I am such a calm and colelcted person.

Skid - DD went through a phase of at 5 months of just waking once at night. Her eczema is more or less cleared up now - thank goodness but think the teething process is starting again as she keeps putting her finger in her mouth.

Clairy - no problem, think I was so consumed with what I was going through that I forgot that there might be other people out there in a similar situation. Am shocked at the size of jars that are sold and even more shocked that there are babies out there who can finish one! Well done to you for BF this long (and anyone else) - you are like supermums!

Wizzska - my DD2 was like that for the last week - the amount of duvets and clothese we had to change! Hugs to you, but we just had to ride it out and ensure that DD" had lots of liquids etc.

Wizzska · 12/11/2008 14:07

Skid and Clairey, I really admire you both for bf so much for so long. With me it was a really gradual process. I was the same as you Skid feeling self concious in public with the noises etc, but I felt like that from about 5 or 6 months so I'd take a bottle with me when going out. Usually ds would have at least one feed a day from a bottle. Somehow it got to 3 bottles a day and now he just has me when he wakes up in the morning and just before bed.

Amani - hope your outburst wasn't too embarrassing. Don't worry, we all get stressed sometimes.

OP posts:
BouncingTurtle · 12/11/2008 15:07

Amani - it can't have been as bad as the one I had when I was pg, when I swore, screamed and sobbed on the 'phone to my boss's boss
Luckily he knew it was a combination of stress and pgcy hormones, and was very worried about me!

skidaddle · 12/11/2008 15:40

It's funny wizz, because if someone else told me they felt self-conscious BF in public, I would be all, 'who cares what anyone else thinks, you are doing the best for your baby blah blah' which I absolutely agree with, but when it is me I do worry what people think and feel self-conscious. I have also been like this since DS was 6 months old. It makes me that our society is so f*cked up that we think there is something perverted about a mother feeding her baby in the way nature intended, but then I think if I am going to be it should be at myself for being so affected by other people's opinions...

amani - oh dear, hope it is not haunting you. These things always haunt me! As you can see (BT) we all do it sometimes. Hope you're feeling a bit less stressed now.

BT what a lovely boss you have!

mellymooks · 12/11/2008 19:52

HI Everyone,

Skid and Clairey - am on same page totally with bf. Kaesha still feeds alot, in the day and night (another reason I think she's not that bothered about solids) at 11 months she also thinks it's fine to help herself whenever and yells mumumumumumum!!!! Her sleep is still rubbish at night, she wakes about every 2 - 3 hours and I was talking about it the other day and said to my friend "I haven't slept through the night since she was 4 months" then realised the reality of that. So I think I want to try and cut out all night time feeds first, then hope she's hungrier in day and I can get her more into solids which will hopefully lead to her self-weaning..... oh sounds so lovely and easy in theory
Some days I just want to stop though, I miss wearing nice bras and just putting on any clothes I fancy, not thinking "now how easily can I get to my boob in this?!"

She's really poorly at the mo, nasty cold and chesty cough and has been one very grumpy lady today

Keep thinking back to this time last year and us all spending hours on here getting impatient for our LO's to arrive and soon we'll be celebrating their 1st birthdays.
Whose LO is first? We could do with a list of everyones, their names and birthdays like we used to have with us and our due dates!!

fifisboys · 12/11/2008 20:00

BT, yeay for finishing work, it'll be a relief I'm sure without all that stress.
Beckle, happy birthday for yesterday.

insywinsyspider · 13/11/2008 09:22

Amani ? sorry its been so hard, we?ve just got to the end of a stretch of ds2 refusing to eat, I sent him to childminder for a day because I had to go to work and he ate loads, I couldn?t work out if I was sad about it or pleased! I think it was something about me, I made dh feed him dinner that day and breakfast next day and then sent him back for lunch at CM?s next day it broke the cycle and he will now eat a little for me, I can?t work out what I was doing wrong ? does she eat better at nursery? I?ve heard lots of lo?s doing this, not sure if that helps. The patting to sleep in Baby whisperer isn?t? is there any advice in the book about things to try? (that?s always my first port of call!) times like that I?ve slept on floor next to ds so I can just reach out and pat him without getting out of bed but he is in cot and then I?m afraid this week we?ve resorted to CC which was horrible but only lasted 2 nights and at the moment he only wakes once (dh had to physically stop me going in) I completely agree 20 mins in the middle of the night is ages, dh timed me one night and I lasted 1 min before getting out of bed to go to ds ? it felt like much longer. Big hugs too, sleep deprivation is a horrible thing x

Suey ? glad counsellor went well

Skid ? yes I found out very early because I was charting, I?m desperate to tell people so posted on here straight away! Its my scan next Thursday (I think I?ll be close to 10 wks then which is went I had my big bleed with ds but so far not even any spotting which is great ? got everything crossed for thurs)

bt ? hope ds is feeling better today x

hello everyone else ? I?m afraid I?ve only skim read as need to do some jobs whilst ds sleeps!

Melly ? I?ll start the list off

Wizzska - Rory, 2nd Dec

Hello all. Am death warmed up today. I fully respect and sympathise with all you mums with non sleepers. I remember what its like from when DS woke every 1-2 hours for 6 months, back then I'd have sighed at me now and called me a light weight. But I've been spoiled over the summer, and today I'm very knackered at work. DS's tummy bug is no better, he was sick again this morning. I had him in my bed with me from 3am so had the early hours with him trying to sleep on my head. DH was on the sofa with a hacking cough. I've been feeling sick for 2 days. Moan, moan, grumble.

Fifi, you sound bright and cheerful. How lovely having your wedding to look forward to.

OP posts:
BouncingTurtle · 13/11/2008 10:16

Ds has been an utter, utter nightmare all week, sleepwise. Last night was the worse, woke up at 9.30, screamed the place down and we couldn't get him back to sleep again until 11:30!
DH even took him out in the car, but when he came back he took him out of the car seat and woke him up!
Tried everything, rocking him, feeding him, lying down with him - he'd fall asleep in my arms only to wake up screaming again if we tried to put him down. At one point we were lying on the bed, he was feeding then he pushed my boobs away, scratching them painfully in the process, and Dh put him in his cot, saying "we'll leave him to cry himself to sleep". But this wasn't just whingy crying, if it was just that I would have left him knowing he would settle himself, but this was full on, screaming and in distress So pulled him out of his cot again, fed him and just held him for ages until I was certain he was deeply asleep. He grizzled a bit when I put him in his cot but then quietened down a couple of minutes later. Woke up at 2am for a feed, fed then went back down with little trouble but was wide awake at 4:40am
He is now in his cot having a very long nap, he was absolutely shattered this morning.

As for the work thing, we're having second thoughts with regards me stopping work, Dh is a bit worried with the present economic crisis and the parent company of my company is looking ropey and things are fairly disastrous on my site.
Instead we are going to try for another baby next summer and I just won't return after baby number 2 - we originally were going to wait until 2010. This will give us a chance to build up some savings, clear the last of our debts and sort out finances out properly.

claireyBANG · 13/11/2008 11:21

BT DS has been exactly the same, I get him back to sleep ok but as soon as I put him down he wakes up and SCREAMS. When he first started waking lots again I thought he must be cold because he slept really well in Botswana but even putting a blanket over his grobag didn't help. I don't know if he is teething, he has slight sniffles but doesn't seem ill. I tried Medised, tried double dosing him with Calpol and Ibuprofen and he still wakes constantly and won't settle. Last night I made dh sleep downstairs again just so I could bring ds in with me without feeling like I was about to fall off the edge of the bed! He is clingier during the day again at the moment too so I think it must be a development/separation thing and there isn't a lot I can do other than ride it out!

Skid/Wizz I have only just started to feel self conscious and I think it probably started with the comments from MIL and my mum. Also sometimes he is begining to annoy me by wanting to bf all the time . I am the opposite to you though Melly, I want to reduce the daytime feeds first and am hoping the nighttime ones will follow.

Hi fifi and ambi, come back soon

Melly it is funny you said about the list, I went back and looked at the last one in antenatal clubs and the arrivals one just yesterday.

claireyBANG · 13/11/2008 11:34

There are a few missing from that too, Mixedmama, thelady...

Wizzska · 13/11/2008 11:41

Don't forget Neuro - I wonder what happened to her.

OP posts:
claireyBANG · 13/11/2008 11:58

Yeah there are quite a few missing actually.

Also just PMSL at my early posts saying how calm ds was and how well he was sleeping etc, oh how things changed!

BouncingTurtle · 13/11/2008 12:43

Oh TheLady! She had a really rough time as well, I remember! I hope things are going well for her now.

Amani · 13/11/2008 14:45

Seems like I am not alone in having a rough time with the LO. How do you guys cope in the day with lack of sleep etc and having to work/look after other kids? I drink copious amounts of tea (when my mum came to visit she was shocked at how addicted I am to it) and always make sure I go out at lunch even if it is for 5 mins to get a blast of fresh air to blow away the cobwebs. Saying that there are days where I just want to sit quietly at my desk and get on with things. However, broken night sleep is life and I try not to groan about it and get on with things. I keep saying to myself there will come a time when the kids wont want to wake up early in the mornings.....

insy - was it planned or unexpected (hope you dont mind me asking). I can certainly say we wont be having anymore kids! DD2 just doesn't eat, regardless or at home or in nursery. Just now I phoned the nursery and they told me she hasn't eaten anything all day other than 3 spoons of porridge. Am thinking it might just be that her appetite is small as she is happy and appears healthy

insywinsyspider · 13/11/2008 20:55

amani - I don't mind you asking it was kind of planned, I was charting, it was my first cycle since stopping bfeeding and we concieved 4 days before I ovulated when I knew I was ovulating dh and i decided we weren't in any rush and maybe a 2 yr age gap would be nice but this lo had other plans I was v supprised as ds1 took over a yr of proper trying! this is last baby though, pg and 2 lo's is hard enough and our house (and wallets) aren't big enough for anymore.
Sorry to hear dd not eating any better at nursery, but good that despite it she's happy and healthy, hope you get some sleep soon x

cazzybabs · 13/11/2008 20:56

has everyone else had their periods back? I am still waiting for mine...I am still bf though.

insywinsyspider · 13/11/2008 21:42

I didn't get any back till I stopped bfeeding completely, I know a few other mums in same position - enjoy it unless you are ttc?? am I the only one wanting small age gap? I'm supprised as I meet a lot of people with 18 months between dc's

fifisboys · 13/11/2008 21:55

insy we only had 20 months between ds1 and ethan..its a lovely gap to have and if i had my way id be pg now, but we have too much going on next year with the wedding and when thats over im not sure if i'll still be broody as the ds's will be 2 and 3 and getting independant, out of nappies etc.
I find its getting a bit harder now as ds1 has become much more clingy to me now im back at work, not badly but he will still only let me do things and not his dad, and im trying to help ethan with his crawling, playtime etc.
