Hello people, is anyone there?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
macdoodle · 10/11/2008 13:46

Lily has 2 VERY clear words - kitty and Georgia (DD1 but it sounds a bit like dawdaw) she says both of those with intent and knows exactly what they mean -n she will crawl into DD1 room shouting dawdaw
She also says NO usually when she doesnt want to eat accompanied by closing her mouth and shaking her head
Dadada clearly and knows who he is - as he doesnt live with us - when he does arrive she goes mad shouting dadadadad ...
and also mamamama - usually when she is upset and tired and clinging to my leg!
She also shouts and squeals almost continuously and last night was muttering in her sleep

skidaddle · 10/11/2008 14:24

at your DS clairey - love it! And very impressed with all this talking going on elsewhere. I'm such an awful neglectful mother I don't really know if DS's noises are words. I suspect his dadada and mamama are usually directed towards the right person but not sure about any of the other ones

good luck tomorrow suey - hope it goes well and your counsellor is good.

hi loucee good to hear from you although I don't like your new name - very depressing and we hardly need reminding with these sub-zero temps!! Your poor DCs being ill - hope they feel better soon

insy - poor you feeling so sick - how many weeks are you now? can you start counting down to when the sickness should start subsiding? Were you really sick with both DSs? You know they say you are sicker with a girl...

hi clara - hope the next week and a half goes quick until your DH is back. Is DD2 walking properly now then? Very impressive

macdoo - how are things with DH? Are you still having problems with him? Your DD sounds so lovely!

Had a lovely weekend in Manchester, went to my dad's 70th birthday party. DD was the star of the show (spontaneously) dancing in front of 70 guests - it was supposed to be my stepmum doing Indian dancing but my DD stole the show . Even DS had a bit of a boogie, and this was at about 10pm. Oh I'll make party animals out of them yet...

claireyBANG · 10/11/2008 14:40

macdoodle, cute isn't it? I love it when ds calls "ela" for dd. He has quite a few words now but biscuit has been the clearest so far.

Skid the party sounds great. DD loves to dance too, she completely took over the wedding dance at SIL's wedding in Botswana!

How many naps does everyone's baby have now? DS still usually has 2 but unless we are out and he is in buggy/car I'm really starting to have to fight to get him to take the second one. He is upstairs screaming now because he is obviously tired and was just crying and whinging at me but is refusing to settle . He still needs this nap but I don't know how to get him to take it most of the time (don't fancy going for a long walk in this downpour ) so he just ends up being miserable from lunchtime til bedtime!

skidaddle · 10/11/2008 15:50

clairey - I also have the nap problem with Milo and always end up feeding him to sleep but DH really suffers as he just can't get him to sleep (due to his lack of boobs!). As I remember Douggie doesn't fall asleep when feeding so the only other thing would be a walk/drive/bus ride. I don't even try to get Milo to settle himself to sleep anymore so I'm sure virtually anyone else will have better advice than me!

BouncingTurtle · 10/11/2008 16:39

Naps - it depends, ds has either 2 short ones or 2 long ones. He has had a 2hr+ nap this morning, and that'll keep him going til bed time.
He definitely has conjunctivitis, have been given eye drops (they'll be fun!) to put in his eye. I'll be off tomorrow and thurs, and dh will be taking weds and fri off to look after him.
At least he is not poorly with it, unlikely some of your poor babies- hope thet get well soon, but am wondering what to do with him since I can't really take him anywhere! /have got all his toys out and he has been quite happily playing by himself (allowing me to mn!) but he also needs me to entertain him too!

BouncingTurtle · 10/11/2008 16:41

sorry that should have been 2 short ones or one long one!

suey2 · 10/11/2008 20:10

clairey dd has a two hour nap from 11 till 1: she used to have 2 but stopped taking the second one so I let her take a longer one in the morning

insywinsyspider · 10/11/2008 20:30

wintersapproaching/loucee - yes pg with no 3
only about 8wks + something so hoping morning sickness will ease soon, I didn't have any with ds2, just the odd quesy morning but I did have loads with ds1 (prob worse than this and most at 9-10 wks) so not sure that proves or disproves the dd theory skid (am also trying not to build my hopes up!)

clairey - at first word, ds isn't saying anything yet just lots of da da da to himself. On naps he has 2, the morning one is on the fly before we go out or in car on way back from a toddler group for about 45 mins and then a 2 hr nap in afternoon, 1pm till 3pm. He's just getting over a horrible cold so sleep has been a real issue, now he's eating again he is a lot happier and seems happier to settle himself most of the time but its not guarenteed

good luck tomorrow suey x

BT - poor ds, hope the eye drops work quickly

skidaddle · 11/11/2008 12:08

wow your babies sleep a lot! DS only sleeps for about 20 mins in the morning and maybe 45 in the afternoon. A stretch of 2 hours + every day would be bliss...

How did it go today suey?

insy - gosh only 8 weeks - I thought you were about 12 by now. I suppose you found out very early. Have you decided if you're going to find out whether you're having a boy or a girl at 20 weeks? Have you got a date for your 12 weeks scan yet? I am and totally not at the same time!

suey2 · 11/11/2008 13:11

really well, thanks skid. She made me realise/ confirmed how much i was trying to do. Her main point is that i need more time to myself- DH, at least temporarily needs to take charge at the weekends on one of the days. Otherwise i am always the one planning, even if he feeds her occasionally.

skidaddle · 11/11/2008 13:35

glad it went well suey - sounds like very sensible advice. Is your DH fine with that? Now that she is older, you can easily have relatively long breaks and do nice stuff for yourself. It would be good for your DH and DD to spend some time together just the two of them as well. Hve you made any plans for this w/e? Might as well start straight away!

I have a whole w/e away form my DCs this weekend and I am half excited and had dreading it. Have not been away from Milo for this long and only been away from DD this long once before... I'm going away with my two best friends one of whom is 6 months preg though so I think I will manage to enjoy myself! At least there will be lots of babytalk...

Wizzska · 11/11/2008 13:42

Suey, sounds like you've got some sensible advice there. Hope you and your DH manage to sort something out for weekends.

Skid, a whole weekend away, wow. Can't think what that would be like it's been such a long time now.

OP posts:
claireyBANG · 11/11/2008 15:38

Sounds like good advice Suey, hope your dh takes it on board.

Thanks for all the nap responses, thinking about it dd also went from 2 to 1 at this age but it was easier with her a) because her morning nap was later(11 am) and b) because she would always sleep for 2-3 hours when she went down. For her I just gradually bumped it a bit later so that the 2 merged and she would just have one nap after lunch. DS has his usually around 10am but it can be 9 depending on when he gets tired and he sleeps sometimes for 20 minutes sometimes for 2 hours, it's just completely random!

Can those of you who haven't already seen her thread please give Amani some support here.

BouncingTurtle · 11/11/2008 15:59

Clairy - ds's nap can be random too!

Skid - at your weekend away! Hope you have a great time.

Suey - glad to hear your sessions went well, hope you can put those thoughts into action.

DS's eye is much better. I'm going back to work tomorrow and DH is taking tomorrow off to look after DS. We're hoping his eye remains clear enough he'll able to return to nursery on Thursday.
I'm a bit nervous about DS being off with DH, obviously DS is used to being away from me at nursery, but am concerned that it'll be different when he is at him with DH, that he'll be constantly looking for me and wanting booby. I'm hoping DH will be able to keep distracted and help realise I am not there!

skidaddle · 11/11/2008 16:14

glad he's better BT - FWIW Milo is always fine with my DH and doesn't want more milk than when he's at nursery - it's only when he sees me that he starts yowling for a feed!

skidaddle · 11/11/2008 16:15

yowling?? did I mean growling? No idea

Amani · 11/11/2008 16:26

Hi everyone - hope you and you little ones are well.

Been a long time since I was last on and DD2 now 10 months - time is flying!

Haven't had a chance to catch up with all the posts but just want to say congrats to insy - wow number 3!

Not been on for a while since life is hectic, back at work, both DD2 spend part of thier time at nursery and in laws and see pretty settled with it. Thanks to all those who responded to my thread mentioned in clairy's posting (thanks for highlighting it clairy) - life is one big juggle but somehow managing to cope (just about). We're off on our first holiday next week so lookign forward to some proper sunshine.

Kind of stopped with the PN threads because it seemed like everyone else had a grip on things except me. DD2 doesn't eat at all (been to dietician who said it's down to teething and she'll eventually eat - been 4 months now and the most she'll have is about 3 spoons at each meal and isn't drinking anymore milk) and wakes every 2-2.5 hrs at night just for me to tap her to sleep and a feed around 3am. However she's become less clingy now that she has learnt to stand and crawl (thank goodness). Anyway will try and catch up with what I have missed....(or will try...)

Wizzska · 11/11/2008 17:41

Hi Amani.

Sorry you've been having such a hard time. I feel awful that we scared you off. I would have hoped we would be able to support you a bit.

I don't know what to say about food. Somebody, can't remember who said 'Under one it's just for fun'. Although they're getting scarily close to one now. Still it sounds as if she's developing fine standing and crawling and I'm sure if she was really hungry she'd make up for it in milk.

If it helps DS was a very fussy eater for a while, only wanting petit filous and banana and apple pureed to liquid or jars of baby porridge. We went away for a wedding in September and I took loads of jars with me which he decided to refuse to eat so I was stuck in the lake district with nothing to feed him with. I cried, gave up and put him in wiht the hired child minder at the wedding. When I collected him after my meal she said he'd had loads to eat, she'd given him pizza and sandwiches - I had no idea he'd eat that kind of thing. He's not been fussy since. Goodness, I'm going on too long and I don't know if I'm a help or a PITA. Sorry Amani.

OP posts:
BouncingTurtle · 11/11/2008 20:55

Amani - forgot to say, ds was a crap eater until he started at nursery, he didn't eat a great deal there at first, now he eats loads, I think it is because he sees all the other babies eating. It's only in the last week or so that he has been eating any where near the amounts of food at home that he does at nursery, he is such a boob addict! It is frustrating though when friends tell me how much their bubs are eating so I do sympathise!

cazzybabs · 11/11/2008 20:59

Armani - that sounds hellish. I have no advice or anything useful to say other than to offer you my sympathies. God I am so sorry....babies whilst cute can be a PITA.

evie is so cute but she does eat and sleep - thank god!!! She is no walking round and I am trying to convince my self she says things (competetive parenting ). She is so cute how she loves to play a game and then demands you carry on by laughing or mmmmming.

mellymooks · 11/11/2008 21:01

Hi Everyone,

LOL at all the words our little ones are saying.
Kaesha's include: Mama, Dada, Kitty, Dat(yes), igwy(again), Boooo(Book), Ball.
She took 4 unaided steps on Saturday, it was very exciting!

Amani, so sorry to hear you've had such a struggle. Kaesha is still not really into food yet at 11 months until about 3 weeks ago she would only eat things that were completely smooth (mainly yogurts and pureed banana porridge) she now wants to hold stuff and puts it in her mouth bites bits off but then just spits it out she doesn't seem to know what to do with it yet but I'm hoping eventually some food will end up going down, rather than just all over the floor. I find it quite soul destroying sometimes to keep planning meals and offering her different things only for all of it to end on the floor/in the bin. She only ever has a few mouthfuls of anything I make. I try not to worry as she's still bf and I hope she is getting enough from me, but I have shed many tears and worried a lot. Please don't think you're alone we are all here to listen and help and share experiences, God listen to me I too am rambling on and perhaps being more of a PITA than a help also!!!

Lots love and hugs to you all xxxxxx

wintersapproaching · 11/11/2008 22:21

Suey - hope you're ok, just saw you mentioned first session with a counsellor? How is your Dad keeping? My DH took a while to get into the swing of taking responsibility when he had time off, He was great if I had prepared everything and packed a changing bag etc and pretty much given him a schedule of where to go and when to stop for lunch etc but as we all know by the time you've done that you might as well just go yourself!

Clairey - lol thanks for thinking of me, I do get on Mumsnet now and again but usually get way laid on other threads then times up! Im no use at keeping up with threads like I used to be when I was on mat leave! In saying that though we've changed our dining room into a playroom and it's joined to the kitchen so when I keep the laptop on the work surface in the kitchen I can check on my wee uns and the forum!

DS loves playing "Ta" with me and his big sis, except if its with food - oh no he will NOT give it up for anything (even though he doesnt want to eat it!) I wouldnt say he's a big eater and at nearly 11 months he's 21lbs so not a heaver hitter either

Amani, sorry to hear your DD2 isn't sleeping or eating, DS is very mixed with both but more consistent with (not) sleeping. He is a carbs boy and love philly sandwiches and dried cereal on his tray rather than any gloop. I have taken to making him stodgey porridge that he picks up in lumps from his tray and he loves big lump of macaroni cheese too (not sure it this helps just sharing what my DS eats!).

Skidaddle, my new name is a bit depressing but very apt for up here, it feels like winter already and we are really kitted out with hats, gloves, scarves, mitts, winter boots etc - the girl guide in me says "be prepared"

BT - my DD went to the Drs today with a gloopy eye, hers was more dry and crusty in the morning but the Doc gave her Fucithalmic drops (and bizarrely a real stethiscope, she did go in her Nurses uniform but that was because she had a friend over this afternoon playing dressing up!).

The runners here, any advice for a 10k that I haven't really trained very well for? Its a week on sunday and although I've been trying to get out as much as I can Ive had an injury and DS being ill prevented me getting out and now I feel really unprepared!

BouncingTurtle · 12/11/2008 06:17

Hi Winters - yes they were the same drops that I've been given. Seem to have done the trick!
Good luck with your 10k run! I am hopelessy unfit atm!

Amani · 12/11/2008 08:24

thanks guys....

It's just the crying in the middle of the night and then patting back to sleep that get's me, sometimes I have to keep tapping for about 20 mins otherwise she'll wake up and the whole routine starts all over again. I've bought her into my bed now, thinking that it might improve the situation as she is closer to me, but it hasn't made a jot of difference.

Oh and 20 mins seems like forever in the middle of the night...

Wizzska · 12/11/2008 10:17

Morning all.

Winters - good luck with the 10k. You put me to shame. I couldn't manage that at the moment, or maybe very slowly.

DS has a tummy bug. DH said he threw up yesterday when having his nap in his cot. Last night he did it again at around 5am. DH, bless him, dealt with it as he was having a bout of insomnia anyway. His cot was a bit this morning when I went in. DS was asleep with DH on the sofa and his cot was full of sick - lovely chocolate petit filous sick everywhere - over nearly the whole sheet and over his teddies. It was the only thing I could get him to eat last night.

Amani, hope it improves for you. You must be knackered.
