Hello people, is anyone there?

Yayyyy! Love the name Skid! Fantastic! Great news, I know it's daft but I feel so full of hope!

On the downside, I spent the afternoon with my friend and DD was playing with her DS (and stealing and drinking from his cup) and this evening the little boy has come out in loads of Chicken Pox spots . His brother had it 2 weeks ago so I avoided seeing her last week but thought it safe today as it was so long since her DS was exposed to it... On the plus-side he was not unwell or anything although he did have a nasty cold and a temperature a week and a half ago and we think that was the chicken pox, Evie had the same about 2 days later (she did play with him the day before his brother's spots appeared and sees his brother most days at the school) so am hoping and hoping that was the nasty bit for her too. Didn't really want her to get it yet, she just seems so young! Not sure if the small amount of breastmilk she has will be enough to give her immunity.

Clairey, have come up with a pressie idea for DD for Christmas one of these!, they also do a bumble bee design, a cow one, a mouse one and a lion but the ladybird is my fave!

becklesparkler · 06/11/2008 00:16

whole range of Wheelybugs!

Wizzska · 06/11/2008 10:30

Beckle, I think the incubation period for chicken pox can be about 2 weeks. I have also heard that if they get it in the first year it is less severe for them. I had a scare with DS playing with a toddler who later developed some spots. Turned out it was only hand foot and mouth and DS didn't get it.

Yes, I'm still buzzing from the Obama effect. It has made me want to be nicer to people, I'm not even a grumpy cow on the tube any more , although that is also thanks to Adam and Joe podcasts that DH has been downloading for me.

Not sure what DS will get for Christmas. Nothing much. I think he'd be happiest with a cardboard box and a spoon. I might get him a Macca Pacca or a Ninky Nonk toy, he loves In the Night Garden.

claireyBANG · 06/11/2008 10:55

Oh no Beckle, hope she isn't too poorly with it if she gets it.

I was wondering about a wheelybug, but we already have a car, a trike, a rocking horse and several other toys with wheels and although I much prefer the look of the wheelybug I don't know if DS will really get that much from it...They do look lovely though.

skidaddleMcCainHereComesOBAMA · 06/11/2008 14:44

beckle - AFAIK it is good for them to get chicken pox as early as possible as the symtoms are worse and worse as you get older. My great aunt died of shingles which I think is the grown-up version of chicken pox (or is it measles? Not sure). I know mothers who have chicken pox parties so all their children will get it early, have few symptoms, and then be immune!

Our friend's son has that ladybird thing - it looks gorgeous but I have to say he doesn't play on it much

wizz - i also wished I'd done something different yesterday to commemorate it. I thought DH and I might have a glass of wine at least and watch Channel 4 news we recorded (saddos that we are) as it was also our 5 year anniversary yesterday (since first kiss, not wedding) but when I suggested it he said, oh no, really? I wanted to work on this article I'm writing' Miserable old git!

Have just discovered my two (Argentinian if that is relevant) office mates wanted McCain to win Is it wrong that they have now plummetted in my estimation?!

Wizzska · 07/11/2008 16:51

Just to say happy weekend to everyone. Don't know where you've all been today, its awful quiet round here.

OP posts:
Wizzska · 07/11/2008 16:51

I bet you're all lurking in AIBU.

BouncingTurtle · 07/11/2008 17:40

Guilty as charged

Skid - perhaps they just wanted to give Palin one

becklesparkler · 07/11/2008 17:41

Not me Whizz, I've been lurking on ebay...

claireyBANG · 08/11/2008 11:01

DS has been sleeping badly again since we got back from Botswana so yesterday I finally accepted that he wasn't going to sleep through anytime soon and bought myself a chair for his bedroom (have been doing the night feeds on a beanbag since he moved into his own room). Guess what-he slept until 4.30! Unfortunately we had been out all afternoon so I had decided to take a bottle with us and give him that rather than publicly wrestle with the 20 jumpers I am wearing atm (still haven't adjusted to the cold!) and he had that and loads of snacks so hadn't fed from one boob since early morning. Missing out the 3 or 4 feeds he would have normally had, plus not waking until 5 or 6 hours later than he has been doing meant my poor boob was like a rock and so so painful. I'd left my pump at my mums too, at around 2am I got up and tried to hand express but didn't get much out-not enough to relieve the pressure anyway. So ds may have slept well but I certainly didn't! Hope he continues to sleep well, am sure the chair will be useful, if not as a nursing chair.

BouncingTurtle · 09/11/2008 11:24

Clairey - sympathy on the lack of sleep! The one time my ds slept through the night, I didn't sleep well either!!

DS now has 6 teeth with another 2 about to pop through. I have tried half heartedly to brush his teeth, but he is having none of it! I'm hoping someone might have some tips for me...

claraquitetirednow · 09/11/2008 14:33

Sorry guys struggling to keep up as we have no internet access in the cottage we are staying in so quickly catching up while at my parents for lunch. Also looking after the two of them on my own (dh is back in Pakistan for 2.5 weeks) is BLOODY hard work. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, although we have also had some fun and loving dd2's age at the moment (the early walking, the few word attempts, the newly emerging sense of humour etc).

Anyway wanted to add my belated YYYYYYYAAAAAAAAYYYYYYY to the election of a man to the most powerful country in the world who actually realises Africa is a continent and not a country!

and agree with all those who love the Daily Show - I was in stitches on Friday night!

Gotta run, I think my parents are done with entertaining my two lively girls. First birthday idea, I was just thinking of a very low key celebration and planning to get her a tricycle for either Christmas or birthday. But no great ideas for those who already have two, I might get her a party dress for her birthday so she isn't wearing a hand-me-down for that and Christmas day!!

DS has now mastered waving! Dh was getting ready to take DSS back to his mum's and they both said bye to him, and he waved back
So cute!

insywinsyspider · 09/11/2008 20:51

hello everyone,

not sure I'm up to speed but hope you all had lovely (if not wet and bloody cold) weekends. Morning (noon and night) sickness has kicked in so am living off a diet of lemonade and biscuits and feel like I'm piling the weight on all ready, also feels like a stupid decision to have a baby in a credit crunch/possible ression, I work in the car industry just to top it off

anyway, skid and all - agree with great news about US election, I also thought what a great thing to say to dc's that history was made during the first yr of their life

beckle - hope if dd did go down with chicken pox that she's doing ok x

I'm not that organised about xmas pressies but thinking of getting ds2 an ELC happy land farm for his bday and then maybe a joint xmas pressie of a garage, I need to look on ebay for some bargins I think

clairey - sympathy about lack of sleep due to engorged boob, that brings back some painful memories for me too when ds would sleep through

clara - hope your doing ok on your own, longest I've had to do it is a week and that was hard enough, have you got family and friends to support you? am also loving ds2's age, he;s playing peekaboo and is so so different from ds1, we've been working on getting him to sleep through again after 2-3 weeks of horrible cold and down to one waking in night (although it is for hour n half ) but in the morning he'll play in his cot quite happily ds1 would never (still never) does that its magic

wintersapproaching · 09/11/2008 23:35

Hi everyone

Sorry I've not been on for ages, I just haven't had time to visit all the threads that I needed to!

Beckle - my DS had chickenpox at 6/7mths and got it quite bad but in comparison to DD (who was then 2.5) he dealt with it a lot better. If your littleone does get it just keep bathing of bicarb of soda and keep the dose of calpol to help them deal with the symptoms

We've got a poorly house with DS recovering from scarletina and DD getting over a viral infection.

DS still waking twice a night, I haven't applied any methods in trying to reduce this - I just feed him and get back to bed! DS still breastfed with water in his cup in the day, although I think I'll start introducing cows milk as a drink in the day as well since he'll be 11 mths soon.

how is everyone? Clara are you back for good or just a holiday?
Insy - are you pregnant? OMG if you are and well done!
Clairey - if you want to continue breastfeeding then do! They get enormous benefits from breastmilk (nutritious, immunity, comfort etc) so only stop when you want to! I am aiming to cut down to a first thing and last thing feed when DS is a year old, he only take a couple of day time feeds and they are really quick and i wouldnt have a clue about replacing with bottles etc so as far as I am concerned I'm happy with those at the moment.

Hope to keep this thread in my "active" list!

wintersapproaching · 09/11/2008 23:36

sorry its Loucee btw x

BouncingTurtle · 10/11/2008 06:54

Hey Loucee!
I too have just started tryin ds on moo juice in a cup, not successful so far, just got to keep trying again!
He woke up with a gunky right eye Saturday morning, it is a bit red and weepy still this morning so am going to take him to the doctor's this morning.

suey2 · 10/11/2008 07:21

morning all.
Poor you loucee! Hope evryone gets better soon
Clairey hope your boob has settled down
Insy yuck! It brings back memories. I had a bad tango habit for a while. I still feel fat after dd- so atleast you have an excuse!
Clara I hope the week goes quickly

Wizzska · 10/11/2008 09:46

Clairey - sympathy on the sore boobs.

Clara, hope you're enjoying your time away.

Insy - although I am impatient to have another baby, I am now beginning to remember the bad bits about pregnancy, which are bad enough when you don't have to look after other children.

Hope all you in poorly households get well soon. DH has come down with something, he had a bit of a temperature last night. I think I'm fighting it. I just hope ds doesn't get it. Didn't help that he woke 3 or 4 times last night so none of us got proper sleep.

claireyBANG · 10/11/2008 12:21

LOL LOL LOL just had the following conversation with DS

DS-Waaah waaah waaah
Me- What's the matter DS?
DS-WAAAAAAAAAAAAAH
Me-What is it? What do you want?
DS-Biscuit.
Me- biscuit????
DS-Yeh
Me-Do you want a biscuit?
DS-Yeh
(go for packet of ricecakes)
DS-WAAAAAAAAAAH
(reach for biscotti instead)
DS-yeh que.

Do you think I should worry that his first proper perfectly clear word was biscuit????

DS back to his usual night antics now so the chair is proving useful!

Hi Loucee, glad you've popped in, was wondering where you were. Hope everyone recovers soon.

Insy sorry about the sickness, I remember how awful it was although thankfully it was far less severe with ds than it had been with dd (hyperemesis). The couple of weeks it was bad though were awful with dd to look after and you are doing it with two

I think ds (and dd) would like happyland stuff actually, they always play with it at the dr's surgery. It is just me being mean and not wanting any more bits of plastic lying around really! Maybe I should clear out the toybox and make room for some...It would certainly get more use than some of the crap we have lying around!

Clara poor you having to go it alone for a bit, especially not being in your normal surroundings. I know I am always ready ro hand the dc over to dh for half an hour or so by the time he gets home.

Suey how are things now? Hope it is all looking up.

BT I have been really lucky with ds taking a bottle/cup. He refused a few times when he was younger but now he just wants everything dd has so I have to give him a cup whenever she has one! Maybe your ds would take it better at nursery where he can see others drinking from a cup? That said if ds is actually hungry or tired he still just wants boob-he sees the cup as more of a plaything! With the bottle he'll only drink from it if he is lying down (on floor or in buggy etc) and you hand it to him, he won't be fed.

suey2 · 10/11/2008 12:32

clairey! We have amlost got daddee; but I am not convinced she knows what it means!
I am improving, thanks. Still don't feel joyful, but no panic attacks. I have my first session with a counsellor tomorrow.

claireyBANG · 10/11/2008 12:53

Good luck

BouncingTurtle · 10/11/2008 13:06

Hope it goes well, tomorrow, Suey!
Clairey lol at your ds's first word being biscuit!

Ds still babbles, but we have the occasional mum-mum and ma-ma. We also have had dad as well but not when dh is in the room!
