What will your cats make of the dog LuckySalem?

simpson · 26/07/2008 20:41

Lucky - even if you do heel work in park with DD in buggy watching, and fetch and retreive etc. I would love to have a dog but DH adamant not before our family is complete and have not decided whether to have a 3rd DC or not yet.

LuckySalem · 26/07/2008 20:44

Gingeme - They try to play with the dogs across the road (little dogs) and theres a big dog on the corner (in their garden) who I've seen them trying to swipe at for barking! lol

I think they'll be ok with it (its a foster so if not we can send him back again) as they seem to want to play (or salem does anyway) and i'm going to keep the dog in the kitchen overnight so the cats can still have their room IYKWIM. The only time they'll interact is in the afternoons as other than that the cats are out all morning and all night till bedtime! lol

LuckySalem · 26/07/2008 20:46

Simpson - Thats what I'm thinking, if he learns the basic commands he will make a good pet (from what I've heard)

I'm gonna get one of those long leads as I think i'd always be scared stiff to let him off. Or at least until he came back whilst on the long lead IYKWIM.

I'm really looking forward to having something to do. Don't get me wrong DD is loads to do and lots of fun. Even when she is yelling in my ear. lol

gingeme · 26/07/2008 20:49

Yes IKWYM. I remember when I lived at home and we had a cat and a dog who got on great so when I took my dog for walks she would go and sniff a cat and look quite suprised if the cat swiped her one

LuckySalem · 26/07/2008 20:51

Salem keeps attacking Lucky and as she's older (only a year or so but still) she doesn't want to play. So he gets moody at being hissed at by lucky. I'm hoping he'll get to "play" with the doggie or at least the doggie will take some attention from lucky - poor thing.

It's wierd how they react. I just saw them chasing a stray (bulldog I think) across the street. Yet the dogs across the road they want to play with lol

Talking about teething, I hope that is what it is. nathan has bouts of inconsolable sobbing at night, desperate to fall asleep but something keeps waking him which upsets him further. In the end we resort to calpol. He had the same thing this morning at 7 so we all had a weird night and ended up sleeping in in the big bed together. By the time we got up nathan had a slight temperature and his nose is running like mad again . Here his hoping for a better night as dh is preaching in one church and leading in another. Have told him he must be sensible and go to the spare room if needed.

On the upside he had his first meal al fresco today, although he was more messing than eating. His appetite is fine judging by breastfeeding, but not feeling 100% seems to affect his willingness to get stuck in.

Oh well, end of moan, night night.

MrsMcJnr · 27/07/2008 00:21

Hello girls!!! I am sorry that I just disappeared! we sold our house when DS was 6 weeks old and then we had lots to do before we moved aboard 2 months ago and I feel like only now am I coming up for air! can't believe our babies are 6 months old! how are you all???

LaTrucha · 27/07/2008 14:00

Hi everyone.

MM- sounds liek teething. Since Sabela astarted in ernest she refuses the cot. DH is away but the night he was here we slept apart .

What's the betting Sabela's teeth will get better 6 hours before DH comes home?

HELLO MRSMC! HOW IS BABYMAC?

Housemum · 27/07/2008 14:04

Feeling good Mrs McJ - I haven't the excuse of moving but still go weeks without time to MN! I heard a newborn crying in the shops the other day and it struck me how "grown up" our babies are already! (But still cute and babylike when cuddled in our arms asleep - if you excuse the hot sweaty hair these hot nights!)

Amelie is happy sitting up now, and enjoys rolling around the floor - she is staring intently at things in front of her so think she is willing herself to move! Sleep is another issue - she wakes at least once during the night, sometimes twice, and doesn't go to sleep without a good feed the first time. Weaning going well - haven't the time to do a lot of home cooking so a mix of jars and stuff off our plates (home cooked, but not necessarily typical baby stuff)

Nice to see you back on here

simpson · 27/07/2008 14:09

Hi all

DD has just devoured all whole ella's kitchen pouch Seems to prefer it to my pureed stuff But at least she is getting the hang of eating.

Gineme - major breakthrough with toilet training. He went upstairs this morning I got distracted with DD and he came downstairs clothes all askew saying he had done a wee He has just done the same thing but unknown to him I follwed him up and he was sitting on loo weeing

Lucky -when do you have house check? I forgot to ask.

Madmouse - hope you had a better night last night. Bet the hot weather is not helping either. DD not too bad at night but very wingey won't settle etc in day.

LaTrucha - hope Sabela better soon. Again bet heat not helping. Have you got teething powders? Worked well for DS

Mrs Mac - Think I am after your time But your up to date posts/personals are legendary

Grrr - DD will not settle...

madmouse · 27/07/2008 14:27

Simpson that is a lot. Still cant get much more than a few spoonfuls into Nathan. He loses interest very quickly and starts messing about and crying. I know he is still young (will be 6 months on Friday) but anyone else's baby not keen?

Having said that, the wife of a colleague is still bf every two hours day and nigh cos dd will not eat at 8 months.

MrsMc!! (frantic wave - given up on you!)

Better night here. Nathan fed at 11, 2 and 5, but slept until 7.40 and dh slept through the feeds, so we are all happier here.

Is it ok to complain about the heat? I hate heat with a vengeance. And nathan was sweating uder his sun cover in the pushchair even for the ten mins walk to church.

Hope you all have a nice day.

LaTrucha · 27/07/2008 14:54

Heat = horrible. And I have a temperature today. MM - may sound crazy, but try a grated tomato. Sabela just loves it. And pureed apricot with milk. Although some people do say leave tomato if you have a history of allergies. They're both not typical 'baby food' tastes. Maybe Nathan would liek them too. I have been in awe of your pureeing though. They sound delicious.

Hi housemum.

Simpson. Well done to DS. He's really getting the hang of it!

LuckySalem · 27/07/2008 15:21

La Trucha - I'm with you on that. DD is soooo moody and wingey. It's really hard to deal with her - I think i'm gonna take her for a walk in abit it's the only thing I can think of to keep her a little happier.

Simpson - I don't know yet, they need to arrange for someone to get here to check. They are at least 1 hour drive so..... We'll see.

LaTrucha · 27/07/2008 15:29

MM - I didn't answer you rquestion really. Sometimes she eats a lot, sometimes fine, sometimes nothing. I don't really stress about it because she's still bf.

I just set up a mini paddling pool in an old pie dish. I put some leaves and flowers in it. She mainly liked catching the leaves and trying to eat them I think I liked it morethan she did! She's a bit inscrutable at the moment!

rockdoctor · 27/07/2008 15:30

Hi everyone

Well, we're finally back home after getting stuck in the passport strike (sitting in the car on the ferry for an hour before we even got moving), followed by a 5 hour drive to get home. A day later and we're still unpacking, the house is a tip, and dd is refusing to sleep in her cot or take anything other than milk. Am wondering if the holiday was worth it as we seem to have taken a massive step backwards in terms of sleeping and eating, both of which have always been problematic around here. Sorry, I guess I feel like I need a break. Hopefully it's just the stress of coming home and readjusting and we'll all be back to normal in a few days.

MM/La Trucha - I'd agree with the apricot and I have also found anything with a base of pureed pear is popular. I'd caution on the tomato, which was hugely popular around here but was only after she'd devoured one that we noticed the bright red rash around her face and hands. It was fine after we'd washed her down with cold water but this has happened twice now so we're leaving it alone for a while. Give it a try but watch out for any skin reaction.

Oops, there goes my 15 minutes, sounds like nap time is over and the wailing is about to start again...

gingeme · 27/07/2008 15:59

Fantastic Simpson sounds like he's well on his way. Well done little man
Mrsmcjnr hello long time no post. Sounds like your doing well. Must be daunting moving with a tiny baby in tow. How are you all doing?
George is currently moving around the floor in the buff, ds4 just in his nappy and ds3 in his pants. Wish I could join them
My big boys are playing tennis at the local park. Must be mad in this heat. I gave them a couple of quid each to get a drink though there is a water fountain there too.
Has anyone tried their lo's with water or juice yet? I've tried George but he realy isn't interested.
Heat too hot me don't like it

betterhalf · 27/07/2008 16:43

Toby will happily drink water, and is on 3 good feeds a day now. Still likes it all pureed up and not with bits in it. Pulls a face at that.

Just walked into town and back. Not a good idea. Absolutely boiling and I am shattered now. Just want to put my feet up and drink a nice glass of something chilled ( preferably alcoholic in nature!)

Toby's got other ideas though and is wanting attention so will have to put the chilled stuff off until later. Hope you're all enjoying the day. This weather would be much nicer if we had air conditioning

simpson · 27/07/2008 16:57

Gingeme - I tried DD with water yesterday for the first time in a tommee tippie (sp) cup. She quite likes it but no where near being able to hold cup herself yet. I want her to cut out her 2pm bottle of milk and replace it with more solids and water, so am trying to do that but ATM DD has other ideas.

I have also just given her a lick of my orange ice lolly (bad mummy) and she loved it

Welcome back Rockdoctor I hate all the unpacking. I am also worried about DD's sleep when we are on hols, but time will tell.

LuckySalem · 27/07/2008 17:48

Gingeme - DD will drink water or juice (prefers juice) I gave her a 5oz bottle of water this afternoon cos it was sooo hot.

MrsMcJnr - Sorry I didn't say so first time but welcome back. Can't wait for you to tell us all about how DS is getting on!!

Well today DD has had 8oz at 6am, then another at 10am followed by a tub of heinz sweet potato and carrot (must find some more breakfasty stuff) she then had a kip from 10:30 till 1pm We had a bottle at 1:30 some water at 4pm and she's having chicken and veg for dinner followed by her usual bottle at 7pm. So we've managed to cut out a bottle at 4 which i'm happy about. I want to try and cut out the 10am one next which is when she'll have "breakfast" just gotta find something that she likes thats actually breakfasty. lol

This BLW is hard work. I give her some food she has abit of a suck at it and if i'm lucky a little of it gets eaten then it goes on the floor so its hard to cut out any bottles at the mo.

Is anyone else having trouble? Any good things I can try her on?

Kelix · 27/07/2008 17:54

WE HAVE MOVEMENT!
DD no longer stays put, I put her in one place and within 5 minutes she is somewhere else completley! She is not crawling yet (can get on hands and knees but then doesnt know what to do) but manages to roll/shuffle quite a distance across the living room floor.

Been a busy weekend here so today we have all done nothing, I am the only person in my house who is awake atm. The peace and quiet is lovely

LuckySalem - Good luck with the dog fostering - great idea btw

Simpson - Glad the TT is going OK, one part of parenting I'm not expecially looking forward to! A while before I have to think about that tho

MrsMc - Hello, have herd so much about you and your brill personals

Gingeme - DD does have water with all her meals but wouldnt say she loves it. Have only just managed to find a cup that she likes (tomee tipee first cup) but that seems to have helped. She doesnt drink a great deal but I thinks she takes as much as she needs.

Rockdoctor - Sounds like you had a rough time getting back from hols. Hope everything returns to normality soon! I hate coming back from hols, it makes me feel really depressed

Betterhalf - Made the same mistake as you and walked to the park the other day in this heat! It was horrible! I gave myself quite a few glasses of chilled er.. refreshments over the weekend to make myself feel better

Latrucha - Mini pool sounds like a great idea to keep LO entertained. LOL at you enjoying it more tho. Grated tomato went down well here with DD no more resembling a tomato after eating it that she did before lol

Housemum - Thanks for sharing the 40% offer, I shall use it as an excuse to buy more things for DD

MadMouse - Had a simular situation with DD the other night, she woke up heartbroken and was obviuosly very sleepy but it took a while to get her to go back off. HAd no repeat so far but I did think it may have been teething. As for complaining about the heat - go ahead will save me moaning about it for a while.

Hi to everyone else. My stomach is rumbling so must be time for tea.

simpson · 27/07/2008 19:27

Lucky salem - You are doing far better than us on the BLW. I have pureed a few things but not much and she enjoyed her first ella's kitchen pouch (peach & banana I think)Every day I give her some finger foods ie rice cake, organix crisp thingie (like a big wotsit)she can't do it very well and loses interest. Does not seem to fill hunger quick enough yet.If I hold food to her mouth though she will have a good old chomp but defeats the point of BLW I guess.

Kelix - great you have some movement DD can roll to the left but not back from tummy yet and also moves around room like a clock hand if that makes sense. Pointing in different directions but still on back. We have just started using tommy tippie cup here too.

Betterhalf - I walked into town today too. God it nearly killed me. Had to do a food shop and don't drive so had to push buggy back with shopping underneath and 2 bags tied to handle.

Madmouse - DD only seems to eat a lot of the stuff I haven't cooked Although she loved carrot & courgette puree and fairly partial to parsnip. But on the whole prefers hipp, fromage frais or ella's kitchen. She still hasn't quite got the hang of the spoon and tends to suck food off spoon so some comes back out. But is 6mths on 29th so young and have only been weaning her for 10 days. I guess they all get there in the end...

betterhalf · 27/07/2008 19:31

Well, Toby fed, bathed and in bed asleep so I am now going to have a nice glass of chilled white wine. Yum.

LaTrucha · 27/07/2008 20:29

just popping in - TWO TEETH now!

btw - movement kelix - blimet - congrats but i'm scared now!

justkeepswimming · 27/07/2008 21:06
