I think it's a good idea not to change wjile you are away Simpson. I looked at follow-on milk on the shelf yesterday and then left it there.

Nicky - that's interesting. 'Everyone' says solids help sleep but that hasn't been the case here.

Madmouse. We're in very similar boats. tears have been shed in the early hours here this week also. I keep praying for patience and calm to ride it out. Hope you get a good night tonight. I hope we all do.

rockdoctor - lol at the attachment! Before we went away Sabela was almost refusing the breast she liked solids so much. I thought weaning her off it was going to be a cinch. Now she's obssessed with it. Oh no!

Barristermum - glad you're feeling better and that you found a silver lining! I don't know about follow on milk. might try it when we get back home. I'm not sure what's different about it.

Simspon -have fun at the zoo .../

whihc reminds me, is anyone collecting those 'great day out' tokens from Sainsbury's? I picked two up the other day with you ladies in mind, so if there are any takers I can post them.

Wishing you all good nights.

For those with poor sleepers, I made this thread the other day. It might give you a glimmer of hope.

lilyloo · 22/07/2008 08:47

Morning all

Frag hope your feeling better today , seems most routines are similair with varying times. Not sure about follow on milk and amounts but surely they will only take what they need ? If you are bf you have no idea how to cut milk down anyway so wouldn't worry too much about that.

Ange have lovely holiday and at 'real poo'

Simpson hope you have nice day at zoo and it's relaxing in prep for tom. Don't you potty training def wasn't fun here and remember being quite housebound for few weeks but we all get there in the end.

LaTrucha i guess Sabela sleep could be more disrupted with you being away however we are disrupted here all the time so no advice to give on sleep i'm afraid! Where are the voucher for ?

barristermum glad you feeling better and the scare pretty much over have they scheduled op ?

Nicky i would be wary of the salt content in the pre prepared stuff. Do you not throw veg in with it i often give Martha the veg and potato from our dinner.

Rockdoctor sorry no advice on follow on milk guess ask hv ?

Madm so to hear you sounding so down think this hol is just what you need. I think maybe everything r/e Nathan has caught up with you now but it is good to let it go. I think the lack of sleep doesn't help us cope emotionally but your dh sounds fab Funny but seems all us bfers have poor sleepers It will pass but i nkow that doesn't help at the minute. When you feel a little fragile it all seems much worse. I hope he either get's a tooth or get's over his cold soon. FWIW dd sleep pattern very similair and i can't wait until i have given her her 5am feed as when she wakes then dp takes her and sometimes i don't hear them as i can finally go into a deep sleep.

Well was going to go for picnic to park today but raining again so we going to go the video shop and get a dvd some popcorn/sweets etc and have a cinema day at home. Hopefully will stop dd/ds arguing for couple hours Other than that not much else on hope everyone else has nice day

justkeepswimming · 22/07/2008 08:54

rushing out the door to nursery in a mo, so must be quick.

frag - poor you, hope that was the low and you are on the up again now?
sometimes i find i just have to admit to someone how low i'm feeling then i feel better

7-6, 7-6 & 7-7 today!
hope we've cracked it now. haven't really done anything, just persevered with bf and offering solids (blw). sure he's not eating much but yes the poo has changed forgot how quickly that happens and 'missed' that last bf poo. and now he's 6 mo(yesterday) feel like he's really growing up & iykwim.

ange - have a fab holiday.

madm - you too when you go, hope you get some more sleep soon. i know what it's like. just lower your targets for every day for now, whatever you do don't write a list! cos you'll never cross everything off and just get frustrated, if you're anything like me.

i love lists

right, too much beebies already this morning, pack bags and go time, speak later.

Amani · 22/07/2008 10:23

Just keeps swimming at sleeping through the night....DD2 feed at 8pm, started to reject her dream feed at 10:30pm, but still wakes up once around 3am-ish for a quick feed

Simpson - good luck with potty training - I've tried several times with DD1 but found it too demanding with a baby to look after aswell, being lazy and waiting until next month. I'll be back at work then so will let nursery and in-laws do the potty training...

Amani · 22/07/2008 10:23

Oh, forgot to say DD2 is 7 mths today

madmouse · 22/07/2008 11:17

Real poo here too , eeeuw too solid for my liking.

And sleep, of sorts. Nathan did indeed wake up for more milk half an hour later, and again at 11.10, when he took a good feed. Then again at 2.10, 3.30, 5.30, each time only taking a few mouthfuls before falling asleep again and refusing to take more. He was clearly catching up on sleep, but I wish he had just taken one good feed. But he did sleep from just before six until gone 8, then played in his cot (poo ke, booo ku, prrrrbrr, bubububu ) for a bit.

So despite only sleeping for an hour each time between 2 and 6 I feel better today.

betterhalf · 22/07/2008 12:19

I tried Toby on follow on milk and it must be too rich for him as he threw up each time he had it, and he is not a baby that is sick very often so have reverted back to the normal formula milk, and he's not been sick since I did that.

Yes, the 'solid' poo's are revolting aren't they

gingeme · 22/07/2008 15:28

Afternoon ladies.
Welcome back Barristermum. Glad you are well.
Sorry I havn't been around but the tummy bug has been doing the rounds in our house since last Wednesday and I spent most of the weekend in bed throwing up now ds3 has it and is missing his last days at nursery.
My washing machine has died too so we went to buy a new one today well excited about that (how sad am I?)
As for George he's doing fantastic. Not quite sleeping through but till 5am now for bottle and bum change, usualy smelly, then back to sleep till about 8am.
My big boys are here till 9th August and they are being lots of help.
We were meant to be going to Chessington Saturday but because I was poorly we are going on Thursday instead
How you doing fragolina ? Feeling better about life I hope
Well off to bake some bread and clean the floor where the old washer was, new one being delivered tommorrow morning.
Take care all xxxx

gingeme · 22/07/2008 15:29

P.s have only ever tried follow on milk with ds3 and it made him very sick so didn't bother with any of the others.

Amani · 22/07/2008 15:37

gingeme - I felt completely lost when my washing machine broke down and was stressing over it like mad for the 2 days it was out of action....

gingeme · 22/07/2008 16:04

Thankyou Amani glad I'm not the only one then

simpson · 22/07/2008 17:41

Hi all

God I am totally knackered!! The zoo was great but is a lot of walking. DS loved the monkeys, zebras and the giraffes But I think his highlight was going on a roundabout 3 times!!

DD was great but did not seem that keen on hipp jar I had taken for her so was giving her a bottle every one and a half!! She also pooed all over her clothes.

Once we got home have just offered her the rest of the jar and she has scoffed it down!!

DS is hanging, sitting on sofa watching Lazy Town. DD is due to go to bed soon, can't be bothered to bath her too tired (bad mummy)

Dreading tomorrows potty training but it has to be done. Am leaving DH in charge in the afternoon as I am going to see what is left in the next sale with DD. DH not the most patient when it comes to potty training (we tried a few mths ago) so will have to have words [hmmm]

simpson · 22/07/2008 18:14

First time ever Ds has gone to bed before his sister!!

DS was falling asleep on sofa, so managed to bath him as he was vvv grubby then straight to bed. He has picked out his pants for tomorrow and been shown empty nappy packet I saved and been told none left etc. Have to see how we get on [hmmm]

DD meanwhile who goes to bed at 6 on the dot is happily rolling around the front room floor watching cbeebies

justkeepswimming · 22/07/2008 18:26

oh i stressed too when washing machine died! rushed into comet like a woman possessed, said i had to have the most energy efficient one in stock and that was it for requirements, just get it to me NOW!
had both boys with me and they rushed through all the paperwork as i stuffed d1 with polos to keep him vaguely happy!

tho have learnt for next time (and they say to only expect 2 years from a machine ), the old one had a timer that said how long left to go and the new one doesn't, i miss that.
ho hum.

well managed lots of present shopping in town with ds2, he was mostly ok, tho got bored at the end. ds1 sobbed when i left him at nursery today but was fine once i'd gone, ages since we've had that

simpson - best of luck with potty tomorrow, we are not even discussing it here (ds1 2.2), most of his girlfriends getting the idea but i've said anything up to next summer is fine by me. not in rush to have the stress myself!

gingeme - hope all are feeling better and chessington is fun.

um, sorry if i've missed you, can't help re follow on milk, otherwise a vague and general hallooo

LaTrucha · 22/07/2008 18:51

JKS - can I ask, what did you mean when you said you persisted with the bf and solids? Do you mean not giving them at night? I'm hoping the sleep will get back on track when we go home - I didn't make a run for it in the end as DH had my train ticket home. Things are ok.

LaTrucha · 22/07/2008 18:51

Sorry - hello everyone else

gingeme · 22/07/2008 20:15

He he thats more or less what I did jks . The one were getting is rather lovely. Its called the Zanussi moon. No glass door and no powder drawer and very few buttons. Perfect with a button addict in the house, ds4.
Simpson how old is your DS? Why particularly tommorrow are you starting the potty training? Nosey aren't I ?

nicky6 · 22/07/2008 20:16

just a quickie as about to go outside for my nightly one cigarette i know naughty but v nice.

Charlie had avocado and banana tonight for tea amd she waited til 4.30 for it rather than her usual 3.30 so she had 8.15 peaches and bananas mashed and then 5oz then 12pm ellas poch ornage one disgusting then 4 oz then 4.30 banana and avocado and milk then 6.45 7oz and bed.

Although a bit of grizzling when put to bed tonight she actually went tot sleep without me having to go back in so hopefully back to normal again here - just persevered didnt take her form cot shushed and patted the last few nights when tricky. But she is a good little girl still wakes up at 7.30 ish and i dont go in until 8 then she gets dressed etc before any food so cant complain.

Had lovely day out with all my old uni friends 3 of whom have just had babies

justkeepswimming · 22/07/2008 20:30

LaTrucha - i mean i just fed him when he wanted and waited for him to decide he was old enough to sleep through! prob not the answer you wanted to hear! i intended to try controlled crying after 6mo if i felt he was just snacking/comfort feeding.
i have offered him more solids but honestly so little goes down that i can't believe that has made the difference...?
but maybe it has. he certainly has much more of a 'go' at the food i offer him

how's this for a dh not helping:
arrives home just in time to go upstairs for stories and bedtime. we are going up late as ds1 has been allowed to watch 64 zoo lane (normally doesn't watch that prog). dh of course doesn't notice the time so starts running a bath, talking to ds1 about bath, etc.
(i point out error of his ways, was going to skip bath tonight.)
in the meantime he has taken ds1's nappy off, and i keep warning him (dh) about the naked boy running around, in a jokey way, 'oh ds1 no weeing in my bedroom, haha', 'come on naked boy, into the bathroom, heehee', etc....
then of course, he wees on the landing carpet.....
and who doesn't move from the bathroom to clean it up.....
argh.

now he has just presented me with dinner - yes i'm being ungrateful here! - jacket spud with tinned spaghetti, i hate tinned spaghetti he claims there was no more cheese, oh no just the brand new packet in the fridge door....
double argh.

i know he's tired too but.......now in that stubborn frame of mind of just eating biscuits and going to bed tho he has offered to find me something else. tho he is now watching a property prog so i could be waiting sometime.....

sorry a me me me post, will have a glass of wine and cheer up!

at your new machine, will get a funky one next time! no glass door? so you can't sit there and watch the washing go round and round and round and round......

simpson · 22/07/2008 20:50

Gingeme - not nosey at all We are going straight to toilet as thats what he wants to do. I was waiting for his playgroup to finish. We were going to start last sat but had decided to go to Zoo today so postponed it till after that. He has to be dry(ish) by end of Sept when he starts pre-school. Have you got any useful tips? He is 2.10 BTW

JKS - tinned spagetti (yuk!!) That is exactly what DS got for tea tonight on toast (bad mummy) I knew he was too tired to eat anything else and its his absolute fav!!

A quick question, do Los have a growth spurt at 6 mths? DD not stopped feeding all day. Had 6 ozs milk at 5pm followed by over half a hipp jar then another 6 ozs at 6.15pm. This is a LOT for her. Hopefully will tank her up for most of the night!!

madmouse · 22/07/2008 21:01

Hi all

Just back from weight watchers and despite eating chocolate to survive extreme sleep deprivation have lost 1.5lb, that is 4.5lb in 2 weeks. I must say apart from the chocolate i have eaten much better.

had a major washing machine panic when we just moved in here, had this beautiful expensive Miele (continental woman - well they are better sorry )sitting in the middle of the kitchen and even super handy dh could not connect it or fit it under the worktop. Not having washed for four days i was in a right tizzy. Lovely man from church who lives behind fixed it at 10pm . I do bl**dy well hope t has more than two years life jks, my last one did 10 years! This one is real posh. it calculates washing time based on laundry weight and tells you what it is doing and how long it will take (ie 'rinsing 23mins'). And it has a pn code for button happykids!

That is a ridiculous amount of waffle over a washing machine .

Think we have a tooth. In battle to examine ds's mouth my nail scraped something hard. May mean why he did not want my lovely brocolli and sweet potato mix today (also made apple and cinamon, apple and prune, sweet potato and prune).

justkeepswimming · 23/07/2008 06:41

simpson - i know!! and he knows i don't like it!!! i scraped it off, grated some cheese and sorted myself out, then threw a wobbly at him
don't know about a growth spurt now, but i know what ds2 has been like when he's had them! it's exhausting! hope she slept well. good luck with potty today

madm - that machine sounds fab we have a miele dishwasher (was in the house when we moved in) and it needed fixing a while back. we looked into replacing it and the same one was £800! we repaired it....for more than a cheap dishwasher but decided we liked it.
may try a miele washing machine next time then.

hope the tooth is there!
and well done on weight loss. mine is creeping down slower than a snail, but the chocolate cake i've been 'finishing up' prob isn't helping

knackered, up since 4.30 with ds2, now downstairs with ds1 watching tv, yawn. time for tea i think!

lilyloo · 23/07/2008 08:25

JKS at sleeping through seems like you may well have got there ?
My washing machine has lasted us since me and dp got our first falt 10 years ago. Bog standard model cost less than £150
Hope you got some tea , maybe you were tired too
at this mornings post time poor you!

Amani can't believe she 7 mths dd only just turned 6 and i don't want it to go so fast!

Madm glad you feeling little better although am definately with you on the stop snacking and have one feed

Gingeme gosh you do seem to get some bugs your way! Did you get washer ?

Simpson love it when they fall asleep exhausted after a good day out Like the idea of leaving dh whilst you go shopping

Nicky we are allowed one vice surely ?

LaTrucha when are you back home ? I am trying to presevere JKS way but the sloids is making no difference at all.

Madmouse well done you on the tooth find and the weight loss hope Nathan sleep improves now tooth here.

betterhalf

Well dd still not sleeping any better up four times between 7 and 6 still. Am having a fed up day about it today. DP said he doesn't how much longer he can work full time and put up with this I am doing all the night feeds he is doing early morning What does he suggest then I can feel an argument brewing and i know it's lack of sleep but i am also at home looking after 3 dc's on little sleep!
Hoping to head off to park today to wear dc's out and stop them bickering at each other. Also need to scrape all the posters off the walls/doors that they stuck on when we had cinema day yesterday with GLUE

OP posts:
LaTrucha · 23/07/2008 09:28

Hi lilyloo- LOLOLOL Sabela was ONLY up 4 times last night and I was considering it a victory! She slept almost 5 hours in her first sleep. I am totally co-sleeping with her ATM whoch does make thigns a bit easier, but we can't carry that on once DH is home - in one week. I may be wrong but I just have a feeling sh'es on the brink of going for longer. Am just persevering really, like you. Sorry about fight brewing. We had a few of those and now I just do all the nights. It's easier for me. Then DH feels he has to do more general stuff to help- so no washing up pr bathing baby for me. And if I really need help (ie. sleep)he has to drop everything and let me go. It's easier as all his work colleagues tell him they didn't sleep for years so he's got very low expectations!

I like the sound of your purees Madmouse. I've been very lazy while we've been away but am itching to get backto creative pureeing! Miele are fab. Absolutely.

Simpson - I don't know about growth spurts, but I wouldn't be surprised. Sabela seemed to rocket.

JKS - tineed spag! YUK. hahahahahaha Give it to him and see how he likes it. ALL next week. . Was LO settling in the cot before this miraculous happening? Sorry I HAVE to know all.

gingme - enjoy the new machine. I love washing machines. Hope it's fab.
Nicky - well done on the sleeping.

simpson · 23/07/2008 11:42

LaTrucha - wow 5 hours sleep is fantastic definately heading in the right direction.

DDs sleep at night is pretty good but she will NOT sleep in the day grrr. She has been awake since 7am and is hanging. I have been trying to get her to sleep for the past hour and have given up. Don't have the energy to bung her in pushchair so she is just lying on her mat.Surely she will sleep eventually [hmmm]

DS has had one accident so far then later on he came downstairs and said he had done a wee in the toilet but I suspect it was a fib Think he just wants his scooter.
