Sorry if someone else has already started one - couldn't find it!

Much better night last night, maybe due to gripe water?

Sal can u get a Uk passport aswell? They generally only take a few weeks so u could hold the christening sooner if u wished.

to sleeping through, hope u manage to sleep a little more tonight. Aeryn has been sleeping through for about 5 weeks now and my boobs still wake me at about 5am. I express then so can get back to sleep quicker but know if i stopped it would gradually sort supply out, just cant be bothered to lie there for another 2-3hours with 'full' sore boobs. So instead i have a freezer full of milk and she still wont take a bottle

We went to the carnival today which wasn't too bad despite the rain showers. Loads 4 kids to do and didnt break the bank, always a bonus. I think tomorrow will be a simple walk round one of the local country parks though.

Going to bed v soon, knackered after all day in the fresh air.

VictorianSqualor · 19/07/2008 21:22

Denny, you're up north aren't you?
You going to the Manchester Xmas MN meet-up?
Go on, I'm going!

Sal22 · 19/07/2008 21:44

Denny - no, unfortunately we're only getting our British passports June next year, so we'll have to get him a South African one first. The timing sucks big time, as we'll also have to pay £600 to add him as a dependant our our British visas as soon as he gets his SA'n one.... And by this time next year it won't matter, but I don't want to mess up his British passport appl. next year by having him "illegally" here. The joys.

Your day sounds lovely, Denny. And wonderful news about Aeryn sleeping through.

I suspect R might wake up tonight though, as he was so tired that he fell asleep and I just couldn't get him to wake for his feed, so last feed must have been around 6. Oh well, doesn't matter too much I guess.

Scorpio, Roelof been really fussy breastfeeding as well, so my sympathies. However, in my case it's all my own fault, as I gave a lot more bottles when my inlaws were here. I'm trying really hard to get him back to mostly bf, but we're struggling a little. At least he drinks fine when he's hungry or sleepy.

The 3 of us spent most of the day sleeping - it was quite funny - I fell asleep on the sofa once, with DH feeding R on the carpet. When I woke up, I found them "splattered" on the ground - all hands and feet, fast asleep. It looked so beautiful and peaceful.

VictorianSqualor · 19/07/2008 21:51

Lex also being a fussy fecker with feeding, but he has only had one bottle in the last two weeks, I think it's his teeth?
I have to hold him close and not let him pull off until he is comfortable with it, takes a minute or so.

Sal22 · 19/07/2008 22:17

I'll give that a try, thanks for the tip, VS. Sometimes he just seems so annoyed with it and gets more and more upset, so then I kind of give in and give him a bottle. Know I should just persevere a bit.

VictorianSqualor · 19/07/2008 22:19

Another tip, I keep swapping sides when he is being fussy, for some reason he seems to latch better on the other side, but with no pattern as to which side he prefers iyswim

LadyBee · 19/07/2008 22:39

Ben has also been fussing a lot recently too...but nowhere close to sleeping through. He has been sleeping earlier in the evenings though, so I'm hoping that's the first step. And he goes back down easily as well after his feed at 3/4 and my dreamfeeding is going ok, better when I BF him than when we give him a bottle of EBM.

Ok. So in my defence I did work out the four-bed thing myself at about 10 this morning (although that's still not much to be proud of). And I really had had only one small glass of cider. I was just very very tired

Had a lovely day today, picnic with friends at Hampton Court Gardens. It took close to 2 hrs on trains to get there but very easy and Ben was an angel.

Sal are you sure you need to get British passports before Roelof can? I was told that Ben can get his even though we don't have ours? We both have Indefinite Leave to Remain and he was born here (obviously) which qualifies him...that's what I was told..fingers crossed it's true, I'll be so annoyed if I've been given wrong information

Denny185 · 20/07/2008 10:04

Morning

Ohh a Manchester meet up I'll prob be able to do that one. Sheds, knitter and I did toy with the idea of coming to the Aug London meet up but Virgin trains are so bloody expensive none of us could stretch the budgets that far.

The weather seems to have other ideas for our activities today, rain stops play, suppose I'll have to gets some paints out later. They are currently fighting over the balloons from the fair yesterday (note to self buy the same in the future!)

Sal22 · 20/07/2008 10:55

Oh Ladybee, if that's true that would be brilliant news!!! DH has apparently called and was told we couldn't, but to be honest, he's one of those really intellegent people that's absolutely rubbish with admin (or real life, hehe), so I think I'll call up on Monday to check. He might be telling the truth (South African passport is a rubbish one to be having at the moment!), but I'll check just in case. If he gets a passport, I'll owe you the biggest box of chocolates available! Fingers crossed.

VS, have been doing the swopping sides this morning and it is getting a bit better, thanks. Now I just need to work at getting the supply up (my plan is by constant sucking - him, not me quite obviously - even if all those pregnancy hormones I'm not quite that flexible yet), and we'll be back to normal. A friend suggested Fenugreek tablets as well, so I'll try and find some today.

On me bragging about the sleeping through - we're back to 12, 3 and 5 last night. But to be honest, it's not the end of the world, and it was lovely to have the surprise break.

As I'm typing here, the flat looks like a bombsite, I'm still in my pj's and my hair looks like Russel Brand's. Guess it's time to fake normality. Have a lovely day, everyone.

VictorianSqualor · 20/07/2008 15:19

Glad it helps a bit Sal, still have no idea why DS is being faffy.

The suckle thing is certainly the best way to increase supply, even if he does no more than latch and have a little suck it send the signal to your brain to make more.

I'm going to be on the radio tomorrow

BBC radio oxford between 7:15-7:45am, listen online if you're up.

Sal22 · 20/07/2008 15:32

Hey, that's great! I'll def listen, will set the alarm!

EllieG · 20/07/2008 22:05

Hey all, been mad busy last few days so no time for 'puter

VS - am with you on the guilt thing. It IS a wasted emotion. I still feel it about bf, as I feel that I was, to be fair, told about local babycafe and bf counselor, but that was so demoralized by then I didn't feel I could do it. That said, like you say, is important not to waste time beating self up over stuff that can't be changed. Caring and loving your kids, and generally doing your best is good enough, and they will all grow up just fine.
Good news about getting paed app for your DD so quickly.
Why are you on the radio?

Hello loumoose! Welcome to the thread. Florence is a gorgeous name for your DD

Took Molly to clinic again fri and she hadn't gained enough weight cos hadn't been eating enough. Health visitor said to try rubbing some baby bonjela on her gums as she might be teething as dribbling so much, and has worked a treat! She is back up to normal eating now am so pleased, and she seems much happier.

VS - you mentioned your DD has allergies - they think Molly might be getting a wee bit of baby excema - DP has it and she has skin very like his - did your DD have it as a baby? What did you use?

Mum2BabyRoo · 20/07/2008 22:16

Sal - hee hee - watch out - fenugreek makes you smell like curry! When I was still trying to bf, the bf councellor suggested I take it to get my milk up, and boy I smelt like curry! With regards to the SA passport - we are still waiting - we know they received the application because my DH asked, but that's as far as it is. Who knows when we will get it! We applied for DD's British passport about 2 weeks ago, so hopefully we get that soon with no hassle.

VS - very cool that you are going to be on the radio! What's the subject?

Ellie- my DD had a little excema and dr prescribed diprobase - although you can get it over the counter as well. It is an emollient - my dr said to rather start with that than the heavy duty stuff, and it really has helped.

We had a really nice day today catching up with friends we haven't seen from before the birth of DD. We went to Canteen on South Bank (on my recommendation - hee hee - I REALLY wanted that macaroni cheese!) and had a great time! I love getting out - but I need to stop spending money! Need to find more free things to do with DD!

EllieG · 20/07/2008 22:21

Sounds like a nice day. Know what you mean about money though - I have been spending like am still earning! Got my bank statement through and nearly fainted - have got to cut back or will run through all my year-off money in about 4 months

Right, off to get dreamfeed ready and get a few hours kip x

VictorianSqualor · 20/07/2008 22:47

t's about breastfeeding laws and how we think they should be changed to be inline with Scotland.

Yeah, Dd got it a bit, Alex has a dribble patch under his skin. Eczema is really common in babies, many grow out of it, we used E$%, and the hydrocortizone cream.

KnitterInTheNW · 20/07/2008 22:58

Oooo, I might go to the Manchester xmas thing too!

PortAndLemon · 20/07/2008 23:15

Sal -- we have Australian friends who definitely don't have British passports yet (I know because I just signed their citizenship application photos and form a couple of weeks ago) but their DD (born here at the same time as DS) has a British passport. Not sure how the legality works, mind you.

PortAndLemon · 20/07/2008 23:18

OK... apparently a person is a British citizen if he/she was:

  • born in the United Kingdom after 1 January 1983 and one or both of his/her parents are British citizens, or were settled in the United Kingdom at the time of the birth; or
  • adopted in the United Kingdom and one or both parents are British citizens.

"settled in the United Kingdom" means living in the United Kingdom with permission to stay here permanently (this includes indefinite leave to remain). So this would apply to my friends, I think. Do you/DH have indefinite leave to remain?

VictorianSqualor · 21/07/2008 07:25

Argh, I still have 'just woke up' voice. I sound like a man.
They are going to call me in five minutes!!

Sal22 · 21/07/2008 11:36

VS, I listened to you on the radio this morning - you sounded great!

Soph73 · 21/07/2008 11:58

Hi all, it´s me. Sorry it´s taken me so long to get back in touch but time just gets away from you. I´ve missed you all hugely. Sam is adorable, a really happy smiley baby. He has mosaicism, which is the mildest form of Downs as far as we know. He has physio for his neck 3 times a week, but apart from that he seems to be reaching all his other milestones. His health is perfect in all other areas which we´re very pleased about.

DS1 is loving being a big brother, especially as he´s now got the big bedroom. He is suffering a little from jealousy but that´s only to be expected.

Don´t mean to brag (yeah, right ) but Sam started sleeping through the night at 5 weeks. DH and I were gobsmacked, we thought DS1 was brill when he slept through at 12 weeks. All our friends are completely amazed that we seem to have had 2 boys the same - preen!!!!

Anyway, that´s a quick update for you. Look forward to being back with you all.

LadyBee · 21/07/2008 12:00

I just listened to you on the listen again facility. For those who want to hear our VS go to BBC Oxford click on Listen Again, it's the breakfast show at 7am that you need to select and it's the item on about 30 mins through, so just click on the >>15 mins button twice to skip to it.

Hope there's a good turn out to the picnic VS. I can't go to the London one because babybee's immunisations appt falls right in the middle of it at 2:30 this afternoon.

scorpio1 · 21/07/2008 12:12

SOPH!!

Glad you are ok, was thinking about the other day. Sam sounds adorable Mimi sleeps really well too, lush isnt it!!

scorpio1 · 21/07/2008 12:13

iacism is really rare, soph. and the most 'mild', iykwim. Learnt about it when i was at college doing a nursing course

scorpio1 · 21/07/2008 12:14
