Sorry if someone else has already started one - couldn't find it!

Much better night last night, maybe due to gripe water?

Oh and nice hair Scorpio

Mum2BabyRoo · 14/07/2008 10:15

I have tried the 10:30/11pm feed for the last few nights in the hope of getting rid of the 2am feed, but DD is not interested. I can't wake her up - even tried changing her nappy and she didn't even flinch. If you work out how to wake up your DS for that feed LadyBee, I would be interested in knowing how!

VictorianSqualor · 14/07/2008 10:18

Ladybee, if he is going down at 8:30 could you push that back to 9:30 and skip the dreamfeed altogether?
Alex goes down at 9:30 and either wakes with the light at about 4ish or sleeps through until 6ish.

WRT toddler naps, I never allowed mine to have one later than about 2pm because otherwise it faffed up the whole bedtime routine.

DS hasn't had a nap since he was about 20 months and it used to be at 11:30am.

scorpio1 · 14/07/2008 13:25

Ellie - dh used to do everything for dss too. basically cos she couldnt/wouldnt. i do; so he takes a backseat. basically i bet your dp doesnt do much cos you do it and are very good at it.

VS - dh now has a 'Maria'. he met her in norway; she told my dh how she was getting married in sept but cheats on her dp, and how she doesnt want to get married. when i met her on sat she eviled me and hugged dh. she is very much dhs type. in norway they had lots of 'chats' apparently. just you carry on my love.......... arrgghh. he wont see her til sept and i am going so is ok. have told him to shut up.

LadyBee · 14/07/2008 15:43

VS was just thinking about your suggestion - I'm assuming the ultimate aim is to get them sleeping about 12 hours right?
So do you think that if they're going down now around 9:30 and waking with the light or after, as the nights get longer and they get older, will they naturally sleep longer as well? Quite like the idea of letting the natural change of season ease my boy into sleeping through the night for me

Oh well, we'll see what happens tonight..this is all theoretical in the extreme and I'm actually not too bad with the waking in the night, seem to survive fine if it's just the once.

I have another developmental question:

When do they show a dominant hand, i.e. left-handedness/right-handedness? I got Ben to hold onto a rattle-type toy yesterday and again at baby singing this morning, and I just wondered whether they have a preference for a hand yet - he definitely seems to have his left hand in his mouth more but held the rattle fine with both. Just curious.
Also, am not completely convinced he was in control of his grasp, so felt a bit bad putting the rattle there. Seemed to me he was only holding on to it because he couldn't work out how to open his fingers and thumb together to let it go . Will try not to torture him with noisy hands too often.

LadyBee · 14/07/2008 15:49

oh M2BR and Denny, I'm going to try the 10:30/11 feed tonight. He's actually having a nap right now but am pretty sure he'll be awake by 4 and then that'll be it until 8:30-ish.
I'm going to feed before his bath, because otherwise I think he gets too tired to feed properly, then probably top up after a cuddle and before he goes down.
The times when I've been most successful getting him to feed late have been when I've listened really carefully to the monitor and gone up to get him when I've heard him mumble rather than going by the clock, as I think that is when he's coming out of a sleep cycle. He does sometimes do the whole feed with his eyes shut but he's definitely feeding. Hope I can do it tonight.
Am going to experiment a bit this week and see what happens.

VictorianSqualor · 14/07/2008 16:47

Oooh, Scorpio, I feel your pain

elfsmummy · 14/07/2008 20:36

Evening all ladies,

Well I've been awarded rubbish mum of the month in this house. Despite all the warnings from you lot that the LOs were starting to roll over I still plonked Elena down on our lounge carpet today about a foot from a 3 foot drop onto a wodden floor, and yes you've guessed it - she fell, 3 foot, face first onto the floor. She howled - immediately - always a good sign but her poor nose was all read and swollen almost straight away. She settled down quickly but when I fed her about 10 minutes later she had a nose bleed
Feel like a complete idiot. Thank God DD1 was at nursery, I was a jibbering wreak.

We're off to Corfu in 7 days. Can't wait.

I refuse to give advise to anyone asking about dream feeds/night feeds as Elena is still waking up at least twice between going to bed at 6.30pm and waking at 7am. So please ignore anything I've said in the past as I clearly have NO idea what I'm talking about!

Can't remember who asked about cream for nappy rash - I've found metanium is the best, clears it in hours.

VictorianSqualor · 14/07/2008 20:55

Awww, don't worry elfsmummy, I've done it with both the other two and keep dumping ds in his buggy forgetting to strap him in

for PAL

LadyBee · 14/07/2008 21:22

elfsmummy, am dead impressed that you are getting her to go to bed at 6.30.
Poor little nose. Still attached though which is excellent. I can so imagine the jibbering wreck feeling, I'm just waiting for myself to do the same thing - I frequently don't strap DS into his bouncy chair and he's now lurching forward quite frequently.

PortAndLemon · 15/07/2008 00:14

Thank you all . Had vomiting DS last night, though, so a slightly more stressed day than I might have planned...

DD is really trying to roll now but can't quite work out what to do with her bottom arm. It's probably terribly uncaring of me to find this quite funny... I think her general rotundity probably isn't helping in the mobility stakes, either (had to pass on a really cute 3-6 month Obaibi outfit that I'd got from eBay on to my niece this week as I tried it on DD only to find that the top finished above her belly, the trousers started underneath it, and the jacket caused her arms to stick out at right angles to her body... ).

elfsmummy · 15/07/2008 09:24

I know how you feel PAL, Elena's 3-6 months are already feeling snug and she hasn't reached 3 months yet! She too struggles with the bottom arm!

Hope you had a nice day anyway despite the vomiting.

LadyBee - last night they were both asleep by 6.10! - I'd had enough and they were both knackered! [evil mummy emoticon]

PortAndLemon · 15/07/2008 09:48

Handedness can change up to about 5, I think. Some children have an obvious preference from early on, some have an obvious preference from early on that then changes(!) and some use hands interchangeably and only settle down later. DS used both hands interchangeably until he was getting on for 2.

scorpio1 · 15/07/2008 11:45

Mimi is still a dink - though putting on weight really well, she isn't even in 11lb clothes yet....she lives in 0-3 and we still have plenty of room. Have just bought some new sleepsuits today in Adams size 11lb, her Next 10lb ones were too small but 3-6 is far too huuuuge. She weighs about 12lb now, but clothes and weights never match!!

And she doesnt roll, but i dont really care - plenty of time yet.

VS - he has toned it down; i told him i dont wanna hear it.
Also Mimi is v fidgety on my left breast - my superboob. Why? its like she cant get any out? (i know she can cos i can see it)

scorpio1 · 15/07/2008 11:49

and im getting a little annoyed with BF. But will soldier on.

scorpio1 · 15/07/2008 11:51

Oh and am i as fertile now whilst bf with return of periods as before i was pg?

LadyBee · 15/07/2008 12:01

cool! go the ambidextrous babies - how clever!

I've just bought a couple of big 3-6 bundles on ebay in the hope of keeping him clothed without bankrupting myself. Hope there are some longer fitting things in it, widthwise he's fine but his legs seem to run out of room in some brands.

Good news - I talked with DP last night and he was excellent about it acknowledging how I was feeling and has said this morning that he has decided he will find out about teething as a starting point for being a bit more 'into' the baby thing. He also said that he does think of me as the expert and thinks I'm doing a brilliant job but that he was sorry not to have told me more often. Which is nice.

Bad news - I wimped out of waking DS for late feed again last night, so he woke at 2:30 for his feed and I felt shattered because I hadn't been sensible and gone to bed at 11 when decided against feeding, but instead sat up far too late. Think today will be a quiet one, hopefully with a a nap for Ladybee at some stage.

DP and I have decided to try getting DP to do the late feed using EBM to up his involvement during the week, so am trying to express a little after each feed today and will also express in the evening, so hopefully will have a good bottle full by the end of the day. How much do you think I'd need for that last feed???

LadyBee · 15/07/2008 12:04

he's probably nearly 15lb (last weighed a couple of weeks ago at 14 lb 6)

scorpio1 · 15/07/2008 12:06

kg x 2, add a 0

number of mls to offer

so 6 kg x 2= 12, + 0 = 120ml

EllieG · 15/07/2008 12:33

'lo all

Well done ladybee for taking the grownup way and sorting it out.

Mind you, the non-grownup way works too cos DP is being super-helpful hurray

Scorpio - next time you see Maria just stick your tongue in his ear or something . DP had lots of close girl friends when I met him. They are all very appropriate now as he knows I would chop his bits off if they weren't

scorpio1 · 15/07/2008 12:36

pmsl Ellie

she won't get any closer, believe me. I turned up in my new dress and good hair....hahaha. dh says nothing there. it's fine.

VictorianSqualor · 15/07/2008 12:51

Just got that voucher cheers scorpio, also my friend from school that has recently had a baby (hadn't seen her in over ten years got back in contact just before I had Alex through Facebook) has sent me a boots £10 gift card fr helping her with her breastfeeding
How sweet is that!

scorpio1 · 15/07/2008 12:56

That was really kind of her

VictorianSqualor · 15/07/2008 13:01

OL, you don't owe me anything, like I said to her knowing these babies are getting BF and their mummys are happy doing it is enough for me
I only wish I could go round fixing everyone's BF problems!

scorpio1 · 15/07/2008 13:05
