October '04 babies - anyone fancy a kip?!!

I certainly do. Bean is becoming more and more unsettled in the night as the weeks go by and it is taking its toll. Florence, you have my utmost admiration for still being alive, let alone managing a trip to NZ!! Hope its going well.

Bean is 3 months tomorrow, and people are already asking me if I am going to start weaning him soon? I would like to keep bf until he is 6 months, but how do I know if he needs to start sooner? Or will I know that is a stupid question when I have a permanently hungry baby on my hands?!!
What is everyone else planning to do?

Btw, am reading a marvellous, marvellous book called "What Mothers Do (especially when it looks like nothing)" by Naomi Stadlen. It talks about what a shock it all is, what we provide for a our babies and crucially, what I find missing from so many other books, how we actually feel - exhausted, sometimes angry towards db, unsure of ourselves etc etc. It does not tell me what I "should" be doing - hurrah!!! Cannot recommend it highly enough. Is doing me the world of good and we like that.

Geogteach, think you have post traumatic mush syndrome . I was lucky there I guess, DD1 took to anything on a spoon like a little lamb although did (and still does) make a dreadful mess. DD2 just seems too little to eat things, although she is getting nicely chunky. I went to a post natal group last time and an hv did show us how to approach the babies mouth with the spoon then tip the food in and tip the babies chin shut, although I've no doubt dd1 would have managed from the off with chopsticks.

Beansprout, my childminder was the sixth I'd seen, and I may have been very lucky indeed. The woman had the patience of a saint on valium, and never seemed to have an off day. Hope the nursery is fab, it certainly might be the better option for commuting.

Cazzybabs and Rickman, are you on the mend?

My osteopath says I need special insole things in my shoes as my feet are so flat. How unglamorous. Next stop gout no doubt.

about the weaning class, my Hv rang me about it and also there is a weaning class nearby me in a health centre..so maybe there is one in a health centre or a clinic!

Am in complete denial about weaning. Have had a bit of a hard day and naturally, dp is away, just as I really need him (boo). I refuse to accept that it is all going to change, just when I think I might be getting the hang of it. That said, I now suddenly know that I need a weaning class as I have barely any idea of what or how to feed Bean once we graduate from milk. Can't think about it now though (sticks fingers in ears and sings "la la la la la").

Toots and Geogteach - thanks for your comments about the nursery. For some bizarre reason I feel I should find a childminder and should only consider a nursery for young Bean as plan B. Please don't ask me where I got that from!

More jabs tomorrow. Yuck.

Well i've done it - started on the baby rice that is. I gave William a couple of spoonfuls yesterday and once he'd decided that he was supposed to eat it he managed it quite well. I'd forgotten though that at first they end up with it smeared round their face, over hands etc. On second thoughts perhaps it was the sensation of being all sticky and mucky for the first time that he liked!

Erghh - have now come doem with a cough and feel all achey. YUCK!!!

Plus Grace woke up last night and couldn't get back to sleep - she didn#t want milk or cuddles just sleep but for some reason she couldn't ... so she sreamed for nearly an hour and a half before she fell asleep again. Dp's suggestion was "put her in the kitchen" - but I was quite worried as it completly out of character for her. And today all she has done is sleep!

I have had a sore throat today... think it is doing the rounds again!

Ds slept for about 6.5 hours last night which is the norm for him hopefully as he gets bigger he will sleep right through, shame that i didnt sleep that well.

We´re off to England tomorrow - yipee!

Mind you reading about how many of you are ill at the moment it seems likely we´ll catch some bug or other while we´re there.

Beansprout - have to say I´m with you on the weaning front. Just can´t face thinking about it at the moment.

Hope everyone gets better soon and I´ll catch up when we get back.

One handed typing is pants, no doubt about it.

Huppa - hope you have a good trip to Blighty.
Rickman - Bean is a bit clingy at the moment, prefers me in the room to out, etc etc. That boy has dubious taste .
Bellie - hope you have a less grumpy day with dd tomorrow.

Jabs were ok, although even Florence might have heard him scream! There's nowt as potent as mummy guilt .

Well im really pleased with ds today as he slept from 8pm till 5.30am!!! What a star, i hope its not due to the fact that i gave him his medicine a bit early though! Did give him some baby rice at 7.30 which i dont mind if thats the reason.

Its a pain doing one handed typing as i always make mistakes and always forget to read through b4 i post!!!!

Had a phone call from my boss asking if i will be going back to work....im not sure if i will as i may stay at home and care for ds.

Bellie - glad the jabs went ok.
Biglips - have decided I am in no hurry to get Bean mobile as from what I can see from friends with older babies, it looks like hard work!! Bet Baba looks v cute though.

Not a great day here chez Bean. I have just hit the wall again and came home and cried all over dp. Feel like I am never on top of anything even though I never seem to stop. He has been very, very busy with work lately so I have been doing practically all Bean and house stuff. Bless him he is now cleaning the kitchen and the bathroom is next. This is after a very big you-are-an-amazing-mum pep talk. Sniff.

Bean - you are an amazing mum!

Looking after bean is a full time job without all the other bits - so don't beat yourself up. It is hard to juggle both and my philosphy is that dd won't be this small for long so I am going to enjoy it - the ironing and the bathroom will be there a lot longer (and they don't complain if left alone ).

I am also with you at keeping dd stationary for now as I will obviously need to grow the eyes in the back of the head first
