October '04 babies - anyone fancy a kip?!!

I certainly do. Bean is becoming more and more unsettled in the night as the weeks go by and it is taking its toll. Florence, you have my utmost admiration for still being alive, let alone managing a trip to NZ!! Hope its going well.

Bean is 3 months tomorrow, and people are already asking me if I am going to start weaning him soon? I would like to keep bf until he is 6 months, but how do I know if he needs to start sooner? Or will I know that is a stupid question when I have a permanently hungry baby on my hands?!!
What is everyone else planning to do?

Btw, am reading a marvellous, marvellous book called "What Mothers Do (especially when it looks like nothing)" by Naomi Stadlen. It talks about what a shock it all is, what we provide for a our babies and crucially, what I find missing from so many other books, how we actually feel - exhausted, sometimes angry towards db, unsure of ourselves etc etc. It does not tell me what I "should" be doing - hurrah!!! Cannot recommend it highly enough. Is doing me the world of good and we like that.

Hi guys,

Well ds has had a bad couple of days feeding but things are starting to pick up again.

We keep trying him with baby rice but like his feeding sometimes he will eat loads and other times he will fall asleep!!!

Trying to encourage him to eat some as about a week ago he slept through because of this!!! (it was the longest sleep ever!!!!)

He had his 3rd lot of jabs yesterday and did very well! Only cried for a minute...what a good lad x

biglips if it makes you feel better we've just started waking in the night again after sleeping thru from 5 wks - i thought these days were over! TBH part of me is looking forward to going back to work - nice to have an adult conversation sometimes!

Kath - why do the babies start waking up suddenly in the middle of the night? (baba started sleeping thru at age 8 weeks) - is that the sign that we need to start weaning coz they are more hungry as baba had a growing spurt last week, as ive just washed her clothes that she hadnt worn for a week as been waiting to be washed and most of them are too small now.

Baba got babys shoes for age 3 - 6 months old - too small !! she got big feet (takes after her dad ) so went to Adsa yesterday and i went thru all the baba's shoes and she is on the edge of a 9 months shoes getting on to age 9 - 12 months old !! poor child !!

plus i go to mums and babies group weekly and aquafit classes with adults and also see my friends alot so im fine on the adult conversations - i think! or until i hear myself talking babys talk then ill be worried

its when you start discussing contents of nappies with people who have no children you need to worry! have no idea why they start waking thru the night - never happened with my other kids! Hope it sorts itself out tho as i go back to work next week! Altho apparently it is quite common around this age.

well tried the baby rice and baba doesnt like it so i went straight onto the Vegs flavour one (cows gate) and she loves it... ill use the baby rice in her milk bottle to top it up.

hi all
poor DS has got chickenpox! So much for b/f babies not catching things (or maybe he's had it milder because of the b/f?). DD1 had it for half term and then last night we realised DD2 and DS were both spotty. They both seem OK so far thank goodness.
Have tried DS with baby rice but he wasn't impressed. Pureed fruit and veg more successful though.

hi all
poor baby cerys, hope he gets better soon!
wonder what it means when ds(4 mnths) cried like mad all afternoon after being fed baby rice(heinz+ebm),so out of character.
why did it upset him, isnt baby rice the easiest thing to digest?

Report
biglips · 25/02/2005 21:38

yes the baby rice should digest if you make it look like puree - hardly any lumps in it. Mine is on veg and casserole and she prefer that and i give her a bit of water incase she gets dyhdrated and then her milk till she goes zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Just a lil update as I'm not having time to post on her often anymore, but I am reading what you guys are your babies are up to. It's so nice hearing that you'rea ll going through the same as us.

DD is:
Still sleeping through form 10-7 (yippee!)
Finally reacting to Peek-a-boo games
Not rolling over yet though
Talking to us (awww!)
Showing signs of separation anxiety when she can't see DH or myself - timid child tips anyone?
Starting to show some interest in solids (19 weeks) but won't entertain the idea of baby rice/porridge at all. I am introducing very mushed up babana (a big hit) and some pureed veggies (parsnips also a big hit). Trying not to give potatoes yet, but anyone know when I can give eggs? I am planning to bring her up veggie, family are going mad, but am going to ensure she has all she needs in the way of protein etc. In fact, on my way now to buy a book from Vegetarian Soc.
Anyway, big hugs to all you fabulous mummies.

Ds has only got a few chickenpox spots and is fine but poor little DD2 is so spotty and really miserable. She has got spots everywhere, bless her. Last night she woke up about every 30 minutes, but we all managed some sleep in the end. DH and I are so wrecked at the moment - I guess this is one of the joys of 3 children under 5!

But Wales did win the rugby again today so it's not all bad

cerys - hope your little ones get well... my mum said that i had chicken pox when i was 6 weeks old !!

Still no sleeping through here, am going to take DS to docs this week as he has a hacking night time cough which doesn't bother him but does contribute to the waking up. Holding off weaning as long as poss, bibiboo, veggie is certainly possible, we eat fish so mine have had that but i've never cooked them meat. Finding it hard to get my head round some of you being back at work but I was back by now first time round and DS1 still loves nursery so much I let him go one day a week even though i'm not going back to work.
Cerys sympathise totally with the issues of having 3 under 5, in fact its 3 under 4 here, i'm having fantasies about all of them being able to put there own shoes on and do up their car seats, the amount of time it takes to leave this house is verging on the ridiculous

Again my full admiration to you Geogteach and Rickman
Bean will also be veggie until he decides otherwise and again, no solids here yet. He is still feeding twice a night although last night was the first time in ages that he only woke up once... so we live in hope (and have turned to prayer).

Have seen Mr. Boss and it is looking v likely that he will let me return to work on a p/time basis. Not for definite yet but am very hopeful given the discussion we had. Fingers crossed. Was odd to put some other clothes on and go in and have an uninterrupted, grown up discussion. Unfortunately the coffee was cold, but at least I didn't feel I had strayed too far from my comfort zone!

Best wishes to everyone dealing with coughs, poxes and lurgies.

Hi all - definately hats off to Rickman and Geogteach and Cerys - no idea how I would cope with more than dd!!
Mayt not be abloe to post for a bit as dh is off to Australia and me and dd are off to Nannys - not sure if will be able to log on so will look forward to updates in 2 weeks.
DD is not on solids yet - am trying to wait for at least another month and then go for it! The nappy situation is another factor to put it off (thanks for the warning biglips!)
