i'll call the institution on Monday and plead pregnancy/new baby insanity for forgetting then claim it back on expenses.

Hi Tallulah! Sorry I missed saying hi before.

Just been having a chinese and watching Doctor Who with DH. Am now all full of ribs and sweet & sour

The registration talk reminds me I must decide whether to get registered as a Chartered Radiation Protection Professional (or wrods to that effect, i forget what they are calling it exactly), the new chartered status from the Society for Radiation Protection.

TALLULAHBELLE · 14/06/2008 21:19

Daisy we have to pay for professional registration too, I always kept mine up to date even when I was in Oz for years cos it's so much more hassle to re-register. But if you're sure you'll never need it again ....

buntinglicious · 14/06/2008 21:20

Is that as opposed to peer-reviewed journals?

Daisy, if work pay for your registration that's great.

God, it's been a long week. I've been off with DD all week and I'm looking forward to getting back to work!

lackaDAISYcal · 14/06/2008 21:21

sewers, radiation.....your job knows no bounds Jammy

OP posts:
TALLULAHBELLE · 14/06/2008 21:21

Hi Jammy - Chinese sounds yummy. I'm full of crisps & cream soda that were for DD's wee party tomorrow.

lackaDAISYcal · 14/06/2008 21:24

i know the hassle of getting re-registered will be a nightmare, plus you have to pay all the back fees; so if I go back when DC3 starts school, that'll be nearly £1200 to pay upfront plus that years fee and the re-registration exam/interview.

I think I should stay registered!

I get like that Bumper when i've been off work ....only 6 months off for me next year (I think).

Don't do research Bumper....routine diagnostic stuff

buntinglicious · 14/06/2008 21:25

That said, I am struggling back at work. I'm in a new role, I've lost a lot of my skills through decay and just being out of date. The guy I work with is v different to me and really knows his stuff. I'm feeling a bit useless. Plus working part-time means that I never really keep on top of things. Spend monday morning reading 3 days worth of emails and reports. It's quite demoralising to be back at the beginning. I'm on a course next week though which will be v boring but early finish most days

LittleMissNorty · 14/06/2008 21:26

There you go Daisy.....you've talked yourself into it

I have to say that when you've worked so hard for that recognition, it is pretty difficult not to keep it up (and these people know it, which is why their fees are so bloody expensive).

I could career change to be a petrol tanker driver....do you realise they earn £39K and are getting a 7% payrise this year - and have gone on strike for more?

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 14/06/2008 21:29

I've got a meeting on Monday, with a customer to discuss the work we are going to do for them and agree exactly what we are going to do. I wrote a proposal for what we might do before going on holiday but can't remember what the hell I said now. Must look it up tomorrow and check I know what's what before I make a fool of myself infront of the customer and my boss.

LittleMissNorty · 14/06/2008 21:30

sorry to hear that Bumper....I'm trying to do full-time job in 3 days and its bloody hard....I keep in touch with my e-mails at home which means I'm never off duty...I get plenty of phone calls etc at home as well....and one part of my work I done all throughout my mat leave...

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 14/06/2008 21:31

I ought to register for professional status as I think at the moment with it being a new thing it's just ticking boxes or similar to do so if you've been working in the field. Certainly much easier than it will be in the future.

LittleMissNorty · 14/06/2008 21:33

definitely do it then Jammy....I done that when they introduced Chartered Scientist (separate to my other regsitrations) and now you need all sorts to be registered but I've already got it

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 14/06/2008 21:33

Oooh, changing the subject... my Dad is a Freeman of the city of Norwcih, and they are apparently considering allowing daughters of Freemen to become Freemen (or Freewomen I guess) the same as sons can become Freemen. I hope it goes through I quite fancy being a Free(wo)man.

TALLULAHBELLE · 14/06/2008 21:41

What privileges do you get as a freewoman then Jammy?

lackaDAISYcal · 14/06/2008 21:43

lol norty...Dh was thinking that too....less money than at the minute, but what a comapny vehicle ....he'd struggle to get it on our drive though!

OP posts:
JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 14/06/2008 21:53

Apparently if you get sentenced to be hanged (hung?) you can have a silk rope instead of a normal one.

These days I think it's mainly the status, plus if you have children you can get educational grants for them. As a Freeman, my Dad claimed money towards my education and if I remember correctly they paid the course fees for my master's degree, which I couldn't have afforded otherwise.

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 14/06/2008 21:54

What does your DH do Daisy?

TALLULAHBELLE · 14/06/2008 21:59

Oooooh - silk rope - now that's special! Apparently as a citizen of Glasgow I'm allowed to graze my cattle and hang my washing on Glasgow Green.

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 14/06/2008 22:05

LOL Tallulah - it is indeed special. Still, you're (hopefully) more likely to have cattle to graze than I am to be hanged, so your perks are probably more worthwhile

lackaDAISYcal · 14/06/2008 22:05

I like the sound of the silk rope jammy

but the education grants are even better!

DH is a packaging technologist for a food company. He designs and sources the packaging, taking into account cost/environmental factors/suitability for the product etc.

OP posts:
JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 14/06/2008 22:06

OK, I'm off to bed to dream of silk ropes and cattle grazing.

lackaDAISYcal · 14/06/2008 22:06

tallulah...my DH says you forgot the privelege of being allowed to brink Buckfast in any shop doorway of your choice

Hello!
Happy belated birthday to the Jamlet!
Happy Birthday to baby SG and baby MHC!

Re: teeth, DD now has 13! she had 8 for ages and now 2 of the top back ones have just cut, plus her fangs and one of the bottom back ones.

Hope you feel ok tomorrow, Daisy and Norty xx
My Dad died 11 years ago, which sounds like a long time, but I still miss him. 3 years must still feel so raw for you both .
(((hugs))) to Fury.
