Exactly, MB. Fans it.

evie2000 · 04/08/2008 13:02

HQ sorry to hear of your tough day and hope things quickly brighten and turtle am thinking of you....hope ds has taken food and you're finding things better. As for the bf thing. Am with you on the Fans it...or fail it or other such work. Am still going exclusively but really fall out of love with it so regularly particularly day feeds when ds likes to see everything else that is going on. At times I feel like I'm chasing him with the boob - it's not attractive and frustrating frankly.
hope everyone else is ok

turtle23 · 04/08/2008 13:44

HQ- how are you today? Did you survive yesterday's festivities? x

HolidaysQueen · 04/08/2008 14:47

Hi all - feeling groggy as DS and I have both just had a 2.5 hour sleep

Yesterday went surprisingly well - he was a bit whingy (he never cries randomly when well) but there were 26 other people there and they all took turns at entertaining him which kept his mind off feeling grotty and gave us a breather. He tried so hard to smile most of the time, bless him!

He developed a rash in the afternoon which freaked me out but we did the glass test and everyone reassured me that babies have random rashes (lots of parents of toddlers there who've seen it all before). It went away and he seemed a bit better later on, but it came back this morning so we went to the doctors - sure enough, it's one of those random viruses that babies get but she definitely thinks he is also teething (chewing hands, lots and lots of drool). So she said it was a good idea to have dropped the gaviscon while we sort this out first as the poor thing was suffering from too much stuff in one go!

Fortunately he slept well last night so we all got a better night's sleep, and has slept a lot today. I think he's just sleeping and eating and pooing it out of his system right now!

Sorry for the 'woe is me' rant yesterday (it was one of my lowest points in the last 4 months), and thank you for thinking of me!

littleducks · 04/08/2008 16:37

turtle- hoping you get through all this and you sucessfully rope dh into helping be it by letting you sleep so it doesnt seem so awful to bf or by feeding him

It has been a full week of potty training, yesterday i was on a high after 2/3 dry days but we are still struggling with poo, she hadnt been for days as she doesnt want to use the loo. So i caught her earlier and she finished on the potty, then another poo accident later and just a while ago she wet herself. So not the best day. I hadnt been asking her and taking her so much was trying to see if she knew to ask, but appears not. Odd that she has been better when out and about and a pain at home.

My head aches.

Ds grumpy today as well.

Anyway is there going to be a London meet up?

CricketsMum · 04/08/2008 18:26

How long does teething take? do they have bouts of pain that come and go with no teeth or once the pain and drool and hand chewing starts is that it until a tooth comes through? Pretty sure dd is teething (possibly why weaning going less brilliantly?) and wondering how long it is going to last and whether there is likely to be any respite...?!

HQ - glad to hear you are doing a bit better.

Turtle - hang in there...

SpaceHopperHayls · 04/08/2008 21:31

After a week of carrot and apples at lunch time, we've branched out and had sweet potato followed by mashed banana today, all greeted with big smiles and yummy noises. Going to take advantage of this apparent willingness to eat anything and try some greens later in the week.

She's still shrieking away like a baby possessed, but has been a bit grotty the last few days. Definitely think it is teething...she's been chewing her hand over on one side of her mouth, dribbling loads, and generally being a little less smiley than usual. Refused to sleep at lunchtime today, but had a longer sleep this afternoon to compensate.

Am praying to the same gods that turtle was last week - was sick on Friday and Saturday mornings, and think my boobs feel weird, but can't really tell as am still BF. Bloke and I both agree that we have been particularly careful, so shouldn't be expecting number two, but were still concerned at the vomiting!

noolia · 05/08/2008 11:28

SHH - maybe there's something going round - I've just realised that I've been feeling increasingly queasey over the last few days. Keep thinking 'I can't be, can I?' but then also thought 'Ooo I could get some new nappies'. WTF? Must be going mad!!

Turtle - how are you doing?

Off to baby clinic today for baby weighing. It's the first time in ages, last time the HV was 'too busy'.

DD nearly crawled yesterday - up on all fours but not sure yet what to do next! Not interested in sitting yet though, she's always to busy looking round to concentrate on balancing.

fitnfortyone · 05/08/2008 13:02

still no need to pray to the anti-duffed gods
Mushy banana didn't go down well today. In fact, came up again quite nicely along with a fair chunk of milk. At least it's easier to catch than the projectile stuff from his early days.

Remind me again how it's all worthwhile, even when they decide 1.15am is a good time to have a chat?

SpaceHopperHayls · 05/08/2008 13:32

noolia, I wish our HV was 'too busy', instead of persisting with her obsessive need to weigh Ffion every week. OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH that woman drives me mad!

fitnfortyone · 05/08/2008 13:43

SHH, can't you tell her you're away on holiday for, say, a year or so? Weekly is ridiculous at this age surely?

One small boy for sale. Barely used. Doesn't eat much.

littleducks · 05/08/2008 20:46

its cooler today, so ds only fed 4 times all day, once on waking, two day feeds and bedtime whereas he has been eating me alive on the really hot days!

booked dd onto crash course swimming lessons for oct half term, i ahd hoped the would be places for normal lessons, but all gone they have a booking day where you go along to book in, it said in the brochure booking starts at 9 am but centre (and queue) opens at 6.30 am MADNESS!!!!

I think he isn't very well. I cant decide if he is supremely talented at deception or just unwell. He had 13 oz total last night from bottles and it all looked good. This morning he woke up with mouth firmly closed, had other people feed him and he just gags and shreiks. He just wants to be held, wont even take EBM anymore. His teeth/gums are v swollen, but am wondering whether his throat is sore...he's acting very strange indeed. Most scary of all, he now wont feed on boob, just wants his mouth on it for comfort. If I had any hair left after the boob-noboob-boob-noboob hormone shift i would pull it out. Back to GP in morning, methinks. And chocolate shop.

SpaceHopperHayls · 05/08/2008 21:09

fitnfortyone - I have tried avoiding her. The week I didn't go to the clinic she lurked outside the house, calling my landline and then asking if she could come in and weigh her.

I understand that she is just doing her job, but she has been patronising and downright offensive in her bid to make me give up bf and give Ffion formula. She is on her last chance now - one more phone call saying that she 'has' to weigh her when I have a clinic appointment for the NEXT DAY, one more crack about my daughter being skinny, or one more crazy piece of advice about waking her up in the middle of the night when she is asleep, and I am making an official complaint.

You don't mean it, surely, turtle? How has he been today?

littleducks · 05/08/2008 21:14

SHH- wake a baby in the middle of the night? that is crazy talk

turtle sounds like he should see gp, did you give him calpol? it didnt help wasnt it......have you taken his temp, btw swollen gums confirms teething so should mean the end is in sight

fitnfortyone · 05/08/2008 22:20

i did get told to wake LO during the night but only when we were in hosp post birth as he was a sleepy baby and didn't get enough milk otherwise.
Nowadays if he's hungry he wakes up and we know about it.

SHH, I think you should complain about her anyway or at very least speak to the central dept about having someone else assigned as your HV due to those reasons. I'd be so tempted to smack her one if she was doing that to me, but fortunately mine are lovely and leave me alone.

So the swollen gums thing, how long does that stage last before the teeth erupt? LO's were well swollen today and he's been crying more and more in his sleep/shoving both hands in mouth, but no sign of any teeth - including the one that appeared last weekend and disappeared within the hour!

Back from my holiday in France, was enjoyable if a little trying as we were staying with the IL's in rural France with no transport... eek.

Had a brief read through and will catch up in full tomorrow!

merryberry · 06/08/2008 08:32

swollen gums? also tried the baby ibuprofen syrup? helps even more with inflammation. in fact i think the nurofen grabs and fever/pain + swelling down very fast and the paracetemol holds it down for longer. 1 hand typing, scuse poor english

nik76 · 06/08/2008 08:33

thanks everyone for the advice on weaning.

One (silly) question - will babies eat more than they would have had if bf?

We're off swimming shortly - will let you know how it goes!

DD has taken to turning over in cot and then screaming to be turned back over.

turtle23 · 06/08/2008 10:29

monday total:4 oz
tuesday total:4 oz
so far wed:2oz
My boy is losing weight, I am in pieces, I hate this.

turtle23 · 06/08/2008 11:12

no, wait, 10 oz monday. still...not much

SpaceHopperHayls · 06/08/2008 11:26

turtle, have you spoken to/taken him to see the GP?

fit - I've thought about it. She has constantly badgered me about topping her up, and seemed scandalised when I told her that Ffion would sleep for six hour stretches at night, telling me that I shouldn't let her go more than 4 hours without being fed. I would understand this if she was a teeny tiny newborn who wasn't letting me know when she was hungry, but everyone who sees Ff agrees that she is strong, happy, and beautiful (ok, the last is irrelevant, but it makes me smile!).

Laughed when I went in to get her this morning - during the night she had done a 180 degree turn in the cot, with her legs pointing where her head was when I put her down last night. She seemed pretty confused that all her toys were in different places!
