I hope I manage to do this right...I'll kick everything off with a roll call if it does.

Dal - I forgot about those cornsnacks, he does eat those

LisaLessLumpy · 23/07/2008 09:12

J20 - he doesn't like banana full stop, whether I give it him whole to hold, or mashed up on a spoon, he refuses to open his mouth for it.

On sunday I went to the MiL's for dinner and he ate what everyone else had just chopped up small and he wolfed it down, potato, lamb, broad beans, leeks and gravy, followed by raspberries and ice-cream

At least he is eating proper food, the finger foods will come eventually I suppose

Hello all ... M still isn't feeding from me properly - although she had one feed last night when she was asleep for about 30 minutes ... then woke up and decided she didn't want to again ...

tis a phase it will pass
tis a phase it will pass
tis a phase it will pass
tis a phase it will pass
tis a phase it will pass

muppetgirl - hope both your boys are on the mend soon.

inzi - Jane sounds like she's doing really well on the food! I hope your dh is ok - bl00dy men, not seeing the doc when they need to!

dal - those wedding photos are lovely!

FT - don't worry about the weight charts ... I think they're in he process of phasing them out, as they don't seem to do anything but make people worried!

LLL - sounds like your lo is doing really well on the food front too .. fwiw, M doesn't like banana either - and she sucked her finger food for ages before she actually started eating it!

j20 - R is driving me a bit nuts ... he's singing about absolutely everything ... there's a free council playscheme the week after next - think he'll be going to that!

Well, I lost another 1 1/2 lbs this week: grand total of 27 1/2 lb ... provided I lose at least 1/2lb next week, I'll be calling an interim target - seems silly to carry on losing while I'm still bf ...

Right, going to do the rice for tea.

love to all,

E x

Crochet; hang on in there honey...I really feel for you...I thought Alex was going to self wean a few weeks ago (he was getting less and less interested in nursing during the day)and was pretty distraught at the prospect..as it happens he was just going through a too nosey to feed patch and soon started tucking in again..I hope Mairwens nursing strike is weakening and she forgets all about it very soon...last night is a small step in the right direction. Good luck for the last half pound for next week too, and give yourself a huge pat on the back for losing 2 stones!

Inzi; hope your Dh gets treated and better soon...ouch kidney stones!

Inzi - Dylan has mostly high calorie things but here are my ideas...Have you tried baby pasta? you can get pouches of tomato sauce to go with it too, think it's by heinz.
Also mashed potato, eggy bread, ice cream, erm... just thinking off the top of my head here, maybe chick pea and tomato and onions or something like that, toast with fruit puree spread on it, banana and avocado with greek yoghurt, home made chips, organix snacks, spag bol made with lentils/chick peas/some sort of beans instead of meat, cheese on toast, scrambled egg with grated cheese, cheesy mash, fruit crumble - pear and peaches stewed with a rusk crumbled on top, pasta in cheese sause with leeks, bread sticks, rice cakes.
Thats all I can think of for now, will be back if any more pop in to my head.

crochetdiva · 23/07/2008 22:15

Inzi ... Typical day for Mairwen is as follows:

Breakfast - toast & butter, fruit

Mid-morning snack - fresh fruit / raisins

Lunch: Cheese sandwich, baked beans, fruit

Mid-afternoon: fresh fruit / raisins / biscuit

Tea: Whatever we're having, so tonight she had sweet & spicy pork & rice - she also had some peas for entertainment value, some fruit and a yogurt.

afaik, quorn is fine for babies - Mairwen really likes quorn sausages sliced up - she's also fine with garlic and some spices - basically because it's what I eat, so she's used to it in her milk.

Of course, it's well known that I'm a complete hippy lentil weaver, with my breadmaking, baby-led weaning, and cake baking ... I just find it easier to give her what we eat - I'm basically too bleeding lazy to make her separate meals!

On a separate note, M has fed from me again this evening ... a somewhat happier crochet here!

Nos da pawb!

Dalrymps · 23/07/2008 22:18

So glad to hear she has fed again crochet, sending ((((positive feeding vibes))) i'm sure it'll carry on and she'll be back to normal in no time

Mine · 23/07/2008 22:23

hi inzi, you can give Weetabix for breakie using your usual baby milk or shreddies.. basically anything without sugar.

For lunch or dinner, i usually stock up on loads of veg and usually roast them until really soft in olive oil with a bit of garlic, basil/rosemary etc and you can either mash with a fork or blend (which ever lo prefers).

Or try stewing the veg with pasta or rice and mashing etc with a bit of vegetable stock cube (not too much). Strong flavours are ok like herbs, garlic etc, but maybe not chillies like you said!!

If you eat fish, you can add that to the stewed/boiled veg with.

I made a really easy mushroom risotto for DS yesterday.. just cooked a small handful of pudding rice in boiling water with a bit of chopped onion, mushrooms, 1/2 stock cube until it cooked down to a mush, then grated in some cheese. He loved it.

Have you tried googling some vegetarian weaning recipes..?? Bet you'll get loads of hits.

Hope this helps.
x

Yeah I think white of egg is ok, as long as it's a well cooked egg, thats all i've read. Off to bed now, speak soon, night x

Mine · 24/07/2008 08:30

morning all.
I've popped a few new photos of DS on my profile.
Have a peek if you get a mo.

Have a lovely day everyone. We're off for a picnic with my dad and DH.

LisaLessLumpy · 24/07/2008 09:52

Awww, he is beautiful, what a cheeky chappy

Ben had his first topple today, took Sam to Nursery and Ben was standing up holding onto one of the little chairs, I was right behind him but just turned round to look at Sam and he fell Got a nice arc of a two inch scratch in the middle of his forehead. He is perfectly ok but I do feel a bit guilty.

Dalrymps · 24/07/2008 10:01

Wow mine, is that black and white pic really you? you look exactly the same!

FloriaTosca · 24/07/2008 10:28

Crochet; Fantastic that Mairwen is beginning to get over her strike...well done for braving the storm.

Inzi..you've already been given fab advice but for the record Alex has;

Breakfast: adult porrige made with milk, added cream and either mashed banana or stewed apple to sweeten it. Or Tescos mini pancakes, fromage frais and a slice or two of fruit. Or scrambled egg on toast (ok so long as egg is well cooked). Or a full cooked breakfast you could use quorn sausage instead of my (soaked to get the salt out) bacon, scrambled egg, grilled tomato, mushroom, melted cheese and potato cake.

Lunch: Often avocado, cottage cheese (loseleys jersey cream one..mmmm!)and bread with unsalted butter. or Home made soup and bread. or Pitta bread and hummous. Sometimes Crumpets or cheese on toast (I grate the cheese and mix it with cream) or if I'm doing the "ladies that lunch" thing, whatever sandwich I'm eating 9though I do usually take a pot of something just in case I want blue cheese or prawns etc). Followed by fruit or yoghurt or both whipped together (banana and raspberry is a favourite).

Dinner:Whatever we are eating but his portion taken out before adding the salt...spag bol (his is chopped finely..and other pasta dishes I use the Annabel Karmel baby pasta shells for him), curry (though will admit that that is one of those thousand spices things you dont like doing...and I add lots of yoghurt to Alexs to reduce the spiciness), I often do fish pie (Alexs mash gets done with butter and cream, ours doesn't) he loves lamb and pumpkin stew..you could use tofu or quorn, and he loves roasted vegetables too..last night we had home made burgers with cheese in home made bread rolls (joining Crochet in the hippy lentil weavers club)with sweet potato chips and salad, he scoffed the lot!....you could do vege burgers...or quorn burgers.
I think the trick, if you don't like or have the time for cooking is to grit your teeth, have one big cooking session and do big batches to portion into bags and freeze.

Thanks to everyone telling me not to worry about growth charts...looking at what Alex eats I should be just glad he isnt barrel shaped...it has just taken me an hour to type this because I have had to keep stopping to divert him from pressing all the buttons on the front of the sky box...now he can walk the length of the room he objects very vocally to being confined to his playpen...he has been up since 6am and as it is now 10.30 I think I'm going to resort to baby tv so I can get a shower!....(bad mummy emoticon)

Mine; those pics are lovely...did you title the b&w pic as posted by Eren? because if it is "You" then Eren is identical to you!(it is a gorgeous shot whichever of you it is)Have a wondeful picnic.

LisaLessLumpy · 24/07/2008 12:21

I can not believe that b&w photo is you you two are identical. I thought Ben resembled me as a baby but that is amazing.

Mine · 24/07/2008 16:19

WinnieThePooh · 24/07/2008 19:24

Hi all,

Not been on for ages as real life keeps getting in the way.

I can't believe that Shula is now 9 1/2 months old. She is crawling all over the place now, mainly commando style, but occasionally she will go up up her hands and knees. she also loves standing and I have got the VTech walker back from my brother as I am sure she is not far off using it. She is also cutting her 1st tooth at the moment, so is very whingy and has a bit of nappy rash too.

She loves her food. I occasionally give her home made food, but more often than not she has jars.

Sorry, I have not had a chance to catch up with everyone,s news, I hope you and your little ones are all well.

Hopefully now I have found you all again, I will be able to post more regularly.

muppetgirl · 24/07/2008 19:30

Hi all!

Crochet - very glad Mairwen is getting back on track, a huge relief for you xxx
Would Rhydian like an email partner ( a modern day penpal?) as I have set up and email address for Ollie and he is beginning to chat to his cousins in Canada and Daddy at work. I type what he says...?

Inzi - Henry pretty much has what we do is various forms. For breakfast I whizz down the cereals we have (dry then put in jars ready for him to have) cornflakes, shredded wheat, shreddies, porridge. He also has yougruts and fruit am also going to try smoothies as Ollie likes them.

Lunch/tea - whatever meal we are having sometime whizzed up if it's spag bol or not if it's something with vegetables. He loves finger food and devours my homemade scones. He has garlic which he loves, as does Ollie, and he's even had a chilli I made though it was mild. He's had curry too and liked that also. He's one for strong flavours, loves basil and suchlike. I don't salt when I do vegies as they're steamed and we add any after and not that much anyway so he's safe to eat most things. I do add salt to large dishes such as my spag bol, chilli, curry, shepherds pie etc but I do make it in large quantities and also don't salt to much that some is always added at the table. I also do a lot of fish (sorry if you don't eat fish x) salmon, cod in milk and he's had the odd fish finger. I don't use stock cubes but buy the ready made liquid stock instead.

Crumbles are good for puddings with custard is very bulky, I make a rich rice pudding with eggs in it so that's very filling. I make semolina and freeze this in with steamed fruit and this is a favourite. He also loves cakes and biscuits. Petit filous (sp?) I am also starting to clean his teeth -he has 7 1/2 now!

Well, Henry had a breakfast of oatibix and petit filous so are hoping we've truned a corner! Ollie had his friend round for the afternoon and then went horseriding -he's getting quite good and is a happy 'trotter' and is beginning to put me to shame!! He didn;t want me to watch so I sat in the car and read my book trying to remember he's 4 not 14!!
We took the dogs for a walk while Ollie scootered which was lovely.

Must go and sort Henry out as he's moving around his cot and gets himself stuck in the most weirdest of places! I can't put him in his growbag as it's too hot -anyone know of a growsheet? Or am I going to have to make one?

muppetgirl · 24/07/2008 19:31

Hi Winnie -great to hear from you xxx
