skidaddle · 09/07/2008 13:23

oh dear i have just realised that you won;t be able to do the questionnaires as it is on another (sacriledge!) parenting website - will get her to post on mnet as well - link to follow...
sorry!

BouncingTurtle · 09/07/2008 13:31

Great about the picnic - if I ever hear back from the uni - still no reply to my email, and I've wrong the office but no answer, I guess probably at lunch!

DS is now sitting up on his own for extended periods now! Though I still have plenty of cushions around him in case he wobbles over! But he has wobbled a few times and straightened himself up again so he is getting on really well! Can't believe how fast he is progressing!
I was at my Tiny Treasures group yesterday, there was one baby about the same age as ds was when we started going, 5 weeks, just lying there sleeping, and a little girl who is at the sitting stage that ds is now when I first met her who is now happily toddling, she is 13mos now! So amazing how quickly babies develop new skills, but I do sort of miss the tiny, tiny baby stage, though ds now is a delight (except this morning when he was being very whingy).
I just had Balamory on the telly(I know bad mummy letting baby watch telly ), they had a clown and ds was laughing at him!

Beanstermummy · 09/07/2008 13:55

Yeah - escaping speadsheet hell and going to meet Loucee in John lewis in Glasgow for a coffee

BT - know waht you mean - a friend had a little girl 2 weeks ago and DD2 seems huge compared to her - and so active and responsive - you do forget the tiny baby bit - and other friends visited with their 18mth olf a few weeks ago - and snap - you forget the toddler stage too - when I'm used to my 3 yr old answering me back - lastest is to huff, cross her arms and declare 'it's just not fair' when somethings isn't allowed - much amusement

skidaddle · 09/07/2008 14:05

OK here is link to questionnaire for anyone kind enough to help...

cazzybabs · 09/07/2008 14:18

skidaddle · 09/07/2008 14:54

ooh thanks cazzy

lucky you beanster escaping - I am also down in the depths of spreadsheet hell and will be for another 6 months at least

BT is there anything I can do being as I'm at the university?

Louise76 · 09/07/2008 15:04

Hello all

Jewels - totally understand why you gave up bf at 4 wks. I always think it must be so difficult to bf when you have another child. From my experience with dd, I don't know how you would find the time! In the first few months I felt as if I had put down roots in the sofa as I sat there for so long! I don't know how I could have looked after another one as well!

Ditto the baby clothes habit but I've had to curb that as my SMP is coming to an end in Aug and not due back to work until Oct so there'll be a few weeks with no money coming in. The last time I bought her an outfit in Gap it was a bargain as there was a sale on.

at the twins and triplets - I used to think it would be lovely to have twins as you would only have to go through the horror of childbirth once and have an instant family (Can you tell I'm still traumatised by dd's birth?!) My cousin and his wife had twins about 6 weeks ago. They were really early but are doing OK now.

BT - my dd has just started sitting up really well now too. It just seemed to happen all of a sudden over the weekend. I'm still putting my old breastfeeding pillow behind her for support but she rarely falls over now. She loves sitting up as she is really nosey and can see everything now. She is also quite good at amusing herself with toys while she sits.

Clairey - sorry to hear about the bad nights. I hope you get some sleep soon

BouncingTurtle · 09/07/2008 18:08

Skid - thanks for the offer! I'm going to try again in the morning to contact them but if not Kisdadee had a good suggestion - to send them a letter by recorded mail and assume permission is granted!

mixedmama · 10/07/2008 09:03

Morning all...

Not much to say... just checking in to say hi.

BouncingTurtle · 10/07/2008 09:47

Hi MixedMama!!

Louise - funnily enough, it happened that way with ds, over a couple of days!

suey2 · 10/07/2008 13:39

hello all,
well i really am going to have to baby proof this house now. DD is all over the place and showing particular interest in plug sockets and trying to pull herslef up on chairs and low tables. hmm

Monsoon sale now on!

claireybee · 10/07/2008 13:43

Amani I meant to say thanks for suggesting that as it wouldn't have occured to me otherwise. I'll certainly look into it, especially as I have no idea what they do/how they work etc! Most of the time I am fine and think it's just a stage he will outgrow but then when I have a run of especially bad nights I start to think I'll still be cuddling him all night when he is 10!

Thanks to everyone else as well, Macdoodle I thought dd was a bad sleeper as she always used to wake more than anyone else's babies that I knew and still wakes once most nights now but she is an absolute dream compared to ds-takes herself off to bed when she gets tired and just goes off to sleep!

Skidaddle that questionnaire was v depressing for me with questions like how many hours does your baby sleep and how many do they cry-especially thinking back to the peak of ds' screaming!

skidaddle · 10/07/2008 14:40

thank you for doing the questionnaire clairey and sorry it was so depressing - i always think the term colic is so strange in that it's defined as a baby who cries for more than 3 hours a day or something like that, but people think of colic as being a stomach problem. I heard someone say once that babies who cry a lot in the first three months are babies who just find the world a bit too much to cope with because they're usually v. intelligent and try to make sense of it and can't - I'm sure that applies to your DS

louise - congrats to your DD for sitting - i agree they are often so much happier when they can sit - I suppose because they can control where to look at more

BT - any reply? kisdadee's suggestion is great - we'll be like proper protesters that way, maybe we should burn our nursing bras?!

any other BF-ers feeling a bit sad that their babies are having less and less milk? DS only has a few feeds a day now and it makes me very sad

Also is anyone having any success with getting their babies to drink water from cups - Milo is having none of it and his fontanelle has been sunken for about a week now. Lots of wet nappies and no other signs of dehydration but it does make me worry a bit...

Amani · 10/07/2008 14:44

Afternoon all,

Well in my boredom yesterday I made....LEMON DRIZZLE CAKE this time - sooo yummy , don't know what's come over me and all this baking madness. Just phoned my mum for a chocolate and coconut biscuit recipe and she was so shocked (I NEVER do things like that) that she asked me if I was ok.

Skid - let us know when you get the link set up.

Well, girls are both asleep at the moment, so I have a couple of hours this afternoon to figure out how to upload pictures from my phone to the laptop....

Suey2 - no Monsoon here, wish we had one though.....

Amani · 10/07/2008 14:46

Skid - DD2 loves to drink from a glass (not plastic, but a proper glass one) - obviously with my supervision. I think it's the clinking of her teeth on the glass that she enjoys....oh is the questionnaire ok to use now...

Amani · 10/07/2008 14:48

Clairy - no problem - I didn't even realise our region had a local sleep clinic until I went to get DD2 weighed by the HV. Perhaphs yours might be able to point you in the right direction? I must say DD2 has been so much better and only wake once at night now (make a HUGE difference to the usual 2/3 hr wakings she done for the past 6 months and thankfully she is itching less aswell which helps)...

skidaddle · 10/07/2008 14:55

amani - yes link is below
lemon drizzle cake sounds luverly. i am not allowing myself any puddings/sweets though and it seems to be working - some of my trousers fit me again so i will just think about your cake rather than asking for some!

maybe I will try Milo on a glass as well although he has no teeth so no clinking - have been using a cup with a lid and spout, maybe if I take the lid off...

claraquitetirednow · 10/07/2008 15:36

hi all - manic here. so much to do, so little time.....and two children to look after as well.....aaaaaghhghghg!!

Skid - I am happy to answer the questionaire but is there any way of doing it without leaving my email address on mumsnet? Oh - have just realised I can email her! Will do that....

Dd2 is using one of those Tommy Tippee cups with a free-flowing spout. Not sure how much she gets from it but she definitely prefers it to drinking water from a bottle (is happy drinking milk from a bottle though!). One way to get around the dehyrdation thing is just make sure they have lots of watery fruit/veg in their diet (sorry if I amn teaching you to suck eggs!), eg pureed apple, pear, peach, courgette etc. But I was once told by a HV that if a baby is thirsty/in need of water it will drink.

amani - can I have some of the lemon drizzle cake please. And after you've finished how about some coffee and walnut cake....

skidaddle · 10/07/2008 15:44

hi clara! I had a dream about you last night - you lived in an underground dungeon a la Josef wotsit in Austria but you were very happy there and had lots of lovely children - all toddlers, all girls, all dark and beautiful! You were also wearing gingham leggings which was a little off-putting

don;t worry about the questionnaire - you have far too much to be getting on with - are you stressed yet or are you too busy to worry? I am more than a little of you going on a big adventure and i think you are doing it at the perfect time in terms of your DDs as well - can't wait to hear all about it - make sure you get your internet set up before anything else!

BouncingTurtle · 10/07/2008 17:54

SKid - no reply so sent another email but I found the security guys actual email address and sent it there, I'll print it off and send it by recorded delivery as well. Seems odd that I've rung several times and no answer - not even an answering machine - unless the number on theri website is wrong!

suey2 · 10/07/2008 18:02

i am dead excited. I am getting my birthday present tomorrow- one of those i phone 3g thingies. Ace! just now uploading albums onto i tunes. I know, I know, i have just only joined the i tunes revolution

claraquitetirednow · 10/07/2008 20:01

Skid - ha ha to your dream! Actually that's a bit disturbing....well, the all girls bit is true....not sure about the rest of it (especially the gingham leggings.....). It's nice to know someone out there doesn't think I'm totally bonkers to be taking my two small children to such an unsettled country. I am looking forward to it but we are so busy it's hard to focus on actually getting there! And as for stress, I think I'm internalising it all as I have been diagnosed with stress-related IBS and am also pretty exhausted most of the time. Still - once the packers have come and gone next Monday it will (hopefully!) all get easier...

Suey - err, what's a phone 3g thingie???? I am obviously REALLY not part of the 3g generation!!!

suey2 · 10/07/2008 20:20

hi clara
should have read iphone. Basically a combined phone, ipod, internet access, satnav gizmo. Really looking forward to it as i have had a really shite week workwise and made me question running my own business again.

Hey skid- you running yet?

Beanstermummy · 10/07/2008 20:46

HI guys - just a quick check in as I'm off to my big sisters and her brood for a long weekend so won't be on for a while. Lookig forward to it but still get hassled over the packing lark as DH does bugger all - mind you I've got to go into work for an hour or so in the morning and so I might just leave him to it! might appreciate what it takes to get things sorted for both girls!

Suey2 - can't believe your LO is crawling all over the place and pulling herself up already! Mind you I remember DD1 crawling at jsut over 7 months - but her wee sister is showing no inclination at all - how different they all are heh - but don't envy you the chaos of baby proofing things. Saying that though, we were renting with DD1 so couldn't do the door catches, etc and never had any major accidents - I think they just get used to things and if told not to touch something or go near things they maybe learn more that if prevented without being told why?

Caz10 - how are you feeling my dear? Better I hope. Meet up soon

suey2 · 10/07/2008 21:00

have a great time beanster . it would be quite hilarious to see what he does pack!

yep i keep hoping she will realise that trying to pull herself up on a dining chair is not a good idea, but time and time again she does it and goes down with a wallop! she may be physically doing well, but she still has the memory of a goldfish.
