fifi - no my Ds can't roll, sit up or crawl either - don't think he can be bothered trying tbh - so different from dd who wanted to do everything. He doesn't babble either which DD was so into by this age.

Well DS isn't interested in food at all - won't entertain the idea of having any from me, will manage not to cry when DH offers but still doesn't have any. Mind you he is teething so that could have something to do with it..

We put DS in DD's room last night - she was soooo excited. He only woke once all night and was woken at 6.30 by DD singing him twinkle twinkle - very cute. Think they're going to be the best of friends (crossed fingers)

clairey at your stupid HV - I don't know how you manage not to have a right old rant at her! I realise that DS is now at an age that a lot of people think it is a bit gross that I'm still BF him. A woman I know asked me if he had formula as well, I said no, she said, so he has nothing except from you? I said no and she couldn't hide the disgust from her face. I am actually starting to feel a bit self-conscious about feeding him in public now - is anyone else? I know I shouldn't but I do get looks now which I never used to. DH keeps joking that i'd better get used to it as he's not interested in food and will still be hanging off my boob as a teenager or should that be !

claireybee · 11/06/2008 16:46

DS is nakey and just crawled across the room! but now I feel guilty that his big cloth nappies are holding him back normally...

claireybee · 11/06/2008 16:48

Skid dd wasn't interested in food at all until 9 months and then she barely ate... It is difficult but she is fine now and all the experimenting (mostly throwing it on the floor in disgust!) obviously paid off as she isn't at all fussy so I am trying to keep that in mind with ds.

Wow you were brave with the bedroom...I'm still not feeling up for the challenge!

BouncingTurtle · 11/06/2008 17:06

Clairey, I've often wondered the same thing... but it wasn't that long a go that most babies were in big fat terry nappies, and the first sposies were pretty bulky!

Skid - take no notice of the ignorant cow!! You must try and make one of our meetups before you head down south - I'm trying to organise one for the end of June/beginning of July. Last meetup, there was me feeding ds, Stealthpolarbear feeding her 13mo, and Indith with her 17mo, who has recently weaned off the boob. Never had any bother feeding in public!

BouncingTurtle · 11/06/2008 17:06

Oh it was in the middle of Palace Green!!!

Wizzska · 11/06/2008 17:39

Thank goodness for all you ladies on Mnet. Having read all your posts I feel a bit better about DS. He's being really clingy lately and unsettled which is unlike him. He's not sleeping either. Last night we did cc but it was awful, I was nearly sick. And when he woke in the night we left him as long as I could bear it and when I went in he was soaking wet in his sleepsuit, can't find nappies to fit properly.

Wizzska · 11/06/2008 17:39

Oh, and DS can roll and sit.

fifisworld · 11/06/2008 17:47

Im so glad Ethan isnt the only one not sitting or rolling etc. He's been much better t his afternoon since having a sleep, i think he must have just been over tired, although he's never clingy and will hapily sit in his bouncer chair while i get on with the house work, or sit on mumsnet

Wisska - I use disposable nappies and ive found that the asda own make ones are really good, although i get a size 4 for Ethan which i think ds1 was in when he was about 1, but they fit lovely and dont leak. I got them with this weeks shop but picked up the wrong size and got a 3 and im having to change him more often as they are a bit small

Wizzska · 11/06/2008 19:01

Skid, don't worry about feeding your DS in public if you want to. He's still only young, its not like he's toddling or anything. I can't really be bothered to stop breastfeeding because I can't organise myself to sterilise the bottles all the time, I do the odd one but I'm bound to forget at a crucial moment knowing me. Having said that, DS is beginning to get a little too knowing iykwim. He's beginning to try to pull my top down when he's sitting on my lap. DH is hoping he'll start that with other women too .

buzzybee · 11/06/2008 23:38

Clairey - I feel the same way about the bulky washables, that they might be holding her back a bit. But that hardly seems the case for you - crawling at 6 months wow! Bea isn't rolling or sitting yet either. Although she can kind of sit for a few seconds if we all hold our tongues in the right position

Yucky old day here in NZ - winter is almost upon us for real. I was thinking about having a winter solstice cum half birthday for Bea on 30 June but not sure who I'd invite as my Mum is currently on holiday in Croatia so have no family in the country ATM apart from the DDs! Might see if I can organise something with a few other Mums I know with babies.

SleepingBooty · 12/06/2008 00:06

So I've not been on for a while and I fear this might be a big catch up, here goes;

Amani- poor DD with her excema, it must be so frustrating and painful for her. DD had a bad rash on her face and it was getting worse these last few days and this morning started scabbing (yuk) and was getting warm. So after reading a few old threads Avent magic cream was recommended, cue me at boots this morning looking for the miracle cure. I've been applying it to her cheeks and chin before her nappy changes and it's almost gone. It does say for use on excema on the jar.

Loucee- feeding before bed, we always do. Bath, then bottle downstairs and off to bed. We've always done it this way and she knows this routine and goes off without a problem. In fact I even feed her if she only had a feed an hour before, though only takes a couple of ounces.

Clairey- yes DD pinches too, and my god it hurts. I've started saying no and taking her hand away, though I don't think she has any idea what it means! and the hv, I can't believe it. Though I've only seen mine twice since DD was born and ignore all unasked for advice. If you take heed of all the advice/ rules/ guidelines doled out by medics/ WHO then we'd be: drinking 1 glass, no, 2 glasses, no, none. Or weaning at 12weeks, no, 24 weeks, no, 16weeks, no 24! It all adds to further pressure parents into conforming some contrived ideal. It's like natural parenting is no longer allowed to exist, we are no longer fit to trust our own judgements, just some higher power which will change the goalposts anyway.
Woah sorry about the rant, can you tell I hate being told what to do!
macdoodle- waterbabies sounds fab, though our budget won't stretch to that, it's the local germ tank for us.

Fifi- DD is in no way mobile either, she wobbly sits for a moment, but cannot roll just twists onto her side. Though I actually prefer that she stays put as long as possible.

I'm also thinking of getting some bumpers for the side of the cot, she's in a sleeping bag so it's not a problem for her feet but her hands catch the bars when the throws them around.

So I guess it's now that time we're already back/ shortly going back to work. I've agreed to go back in August, though I'll be working from home as much as possible.

Ok so it's off to bed now
('tis Ambi btw- I'll change back for next time, I was trailling a new nickname)

Ambi · 12/06/2008 00:10
  • trialling d'oh I'd done so well to type all that out on my phone just to mess up at the end.
cazzybabs · 12/06/2008 09:09

trust me the bulky nappies are in way hindering Evie - I just wish they were.

oh dear - before I went on maternity leave I booked a school trip for today and it is pissing it down - whoops. My dd1 is going as well - she was so excited. I am not sure she will be when she sees the rain .

I have decided knitting and small children are not compatible. I have spent the last 3 night unknotting my yarn that dd2 helpfully played with whilst I was chnaging Evie - how on earth it managed to get so knotted I don't know. I was in tears, Evie was screaming as no-one was playing with her - lucky dh took over and unknotted it. It took him an hour and a half.

claireybee · 12/06/2008 13:48

Hi Ambi, good to see you!

I placed a massive order with Laithwaites and now have 60 bottles of wine stacked up in my living room and nowhere to put them!

Porridge went down better this morning but he LOVED the moon biscuit I gave him after, was shouting at me to give it back everytime he dropped it! I bought a couple of those Ellas kitchen pouches because they were on offer and I was curious, gave him some of one like soup with some toast last night and that went down well too, we had a spoon each but he mostly did it himself and was sucking it off his toast. Had a lovely green poo this morning though!

Last night was horrendous, I went to bed at 10, ds asleep in his cot. At 1am I had a nightmare and woke up sweating and scared only to find myself sitting up in bed with ds on my lap-he had obviously fed because one boob was empty but I have no recollection of him waking or me getting him out of his cot. I then tried to lie him down but he woke up so i fed him again then we both lay down with him still attached, dozed off for a bit but then he started fussing and crying so I had to sit up with him again, fell asleep like that again, woke up and tried to lie him down and went through the whole thing again! Again, I think I jinxed myself my saying we'd had a couple of better nights!

skidaddle · 12/06/2008 15:16

Oh gosh clairey - sounds horrid - I know that waking from a nightmare all sweaty feeling and to have a surprise baby right there must have freaked you out even more - how horrid . Let's hope his enthusiastic eating will lead to some better nights for you

What is a moon biscuit btw - will my DS eat one?! He has been a bit better with food actually (but only from DH) - had a little bit of porridge (proper, not baby) and a little bit of DD's baked potato today - think he just hates all that baby goo and wants proper food!

Am getting very weary of expressing all the time and thinking about giving DS formula when I am not with him. I really wanted him to have BM only until he was one but I think it's a choice between finishing my PhD on time and Bf him... don;t really know which to choose. DH obviously thinks I'm a loon for even considering delaying my PhD and I suppose he is right...

I agree about the bulky cloth nappies - DS can almost roll over and can sit up for a few minutes with a disposable on but can only half roll over and sit for a few seconds with a cloth nappy on!

thank you bouncing - i will ignore her and I am definitely on for a meet-up or two before I leave the north.. am getting quite sentimental about it even though it is months away - feel a bit like a traitor going down south (no offence to all you lovely southerners!)

hi wizz and ambi - good to see you back
suey hasn;t been on for ages - must be busy at work I suppose

claireybee · 12/06/2008 15:42

Well I'm not sure about that Skid-it's all coming straight back out again, 4 poos already today! So much for solids staying in the tummy and making them feel full for longer...

moon biscuits

Although whoops, it says on there for 12 months upwards . Not sure why, perfect shape for babies to hold and mush down like rusks.

Do you think ds will stop bf altogether if you give him formula then? You could try mixed feeding, apparently after 6 months milk is made as and when so it wouldn't matter if it was different feeds each day or even if you missed a day...

skidaddle · 12/06/2008 15:51

like the look of the moon biscuits clairey - how could he resist one of those...

No, I definitely won't stop BF altogether but I find I have to express much more often than I would feed him so I am just getting into writing a chapter of my thesis and it's time to express again. Plus he is drinking more than I'm expressing so i think at some point I'll have no choice.
But then again if he ever eats any food he will presumably BF less which means I won't need to express so often. Oh gosh I don't know - it makes me want to cry whenever I think about it.. has anyone else gone back to work (nearly) full-time and managed to express all feeds? I have two mornings and three two-hour lunchtimes with him in the week and then of course all evening and weekends

claireybee · 12/06/2008 15:55

If you do offer him one then can I just advise bib with sleeves and flannel at the ready-they are messy! Couldn't see anything in the ingredients why they say 12 months+ could you?

I think expressing gets harder the older they get tbh. If I have to leave ds I think I'll just try formula now but obviously it's a different situation as I don't have work to be going back to...

BouncingTurtle · 12/06/2008 17:42

I'm also thinking of introducing a bottle of formula at 6 mo as well. It'll give me a better chance to express I reckon, but I suppose as he eats more he'll need less bm and more time to express!
I noticed those biscuits are wholegrain - I don't think you are supposed to give high fibre foods to under ones because it is too much bulk for little tummies, and can hinder absorption of vitamins and minerals.
DS devoured his baby rice, and even bigger quantity! But haven't tried him on anything else today. Might try him with some porridge tomorrow, but with a bit of BM mixed in.
Clairey - sorry to hear of your nightmare, I've also had nights when i have woken up with boob hanging out and ds lying asleep on the pillow on my lap! But not been woken up by bad dream
Skid - I have suggested a meet up on Saturday 5th July - hope you can make it

BouncingTurtle · 12/06/2008 17:44

Skid - meetup thread

cazzybabs · 12/06/2008 17:57

Clairy - so its round your house is it?

claraquitetirednow · 12/06/2008 20:09

Yes I'll help with the 60 bottles of wine.....

Hi everyone,

Just checking into see how you are all doing. First time in what seems like weeks I have had a happy, content baby with little itching...maybe it's the change in weather - but got lots of lovely smiles, laughs and something which sounded like 'ever' much to DD1 delight.

As a result went Pizza Hut (nothing fancy - but it's near by) today and was very annoyed when I ordered a Vegetarian Pizza to find a piece of chicken in it..

Well I might share one bottle

BT I did wonder if it was the wholegrainness but the rusks say they are wholegrain too and they are 7 months+ (and supposedly only 7+ because they don't think 6 month olds can handle finger foods )

Am a bit anyway at giving biscuits to a baby on his second day of solids but hey, he is my NSB after all!
