Clairey - If it was a Chocolate hobnob I would be a bit but one baby biscuit won't do any harm and it'll help ds perfect his fine motor skills

My little shit darling was up at 5am this morning... he is now zonked out in his cot. Can't imagine why

fifisworld · 13/06/2008 08:21

Morning everyone

Clairey - Im sure the odd biscuit wont do any harm. Im going to go into town tomorrow and see if i can get somethig like that for ethan, he;'s been having loads of purees but he hasnt really had finger foods.
What finger foods is anyone giving atm?

Im just waiting for bf's dd to come, she should be here any minute, but i really can't be bothered today ive been ill with hayfever for the past few days.
Im excited for tomorrow, dp is taking me ito town and treating me to a new dress that i'd seen last week for a night out with the girls at the end of the month

BouncingTurtle · 13/06/2008 09:03

Hi Fifisworld, sorry you are feeling under the weather today but I am at your dp going with you to get a new frock
Will he stretch to a nice lunch out as well

fifisworld · 13/06/2008 09:38

Yeah when we go to town he'll always take us all for dinner somewhere, nothing fancy but its still nice anyway.
Well bf's dd is here and its been a nightmare really so far today.
Basically bf always brings her up in her pj's as she's normally just woke up which is fine, but never bothers changing her or aything, so she was screaming when she got her ad her nappy just couldnt have held anything else
So anyway she's been changed and fed, and ive got a travel cot up in my living room so that when im pottering around i can put ds1 in it with his toys and he happily just sits and plays until im finished.
Anyway, bf's dd just screams and crys every time i put her in, so basically i can forget having a bath or anything until she's gone, plus her screaming has started ethan off so ive just spent the last 15 minutes tryig to settle him.

dundeemarmalade · 13/06/2008 12:30

fifi blimey, my ears are ringing just thinking about the noise of two lo's having a yelling competition - hope they can also calm each other down!
skid re thesis vs bf - can't imagine being able to get anything seriously written with more than 1 lo - am struggling with just having dd. only way i have found is to set myself very small targets towards my next article (i.e. do 1 thing on literature review, or write 200 words, which used to take me about 5 minutes and now takes all day to think about and half an hour to get onto the page ). having got to the other side of the phd process, it makes bf seem like a light-hearted commitment! don't forget that, while the benefits of bf will stay with your children for the whole of their lives, the benefits of finishing your thesis will stay with you for yours, and will in turn be good for them. and don't feel guilty.

claireybee · 13/06/2008 12:43

Oh no Fifi, must be hard when you are used to being able to get on with stuff. Now you know what it is like being me Is she like that for your bf too or is it just because she is somewhere else so feels a bit more insecure?

For finger foods ds has had toast, carrot, parsnip, cucumber, moon biscuit, organix rusk, breadstick and apple. The carrot, parsnip, apple and cucumber all just got played with and sucked but the toast etc got eaten

BT hell no, there's no way I'd be sharing chocolate hobnobs!

Fifi - your friend is very, very lucky to have you.
Surely she has time to change her before dropping her off? Seems a bit off to me!

fifisworld · 13/06/2008 14:26

Clairey - TBH she's normally fine, think she's just a bit off today, aparently she's had a touch of cold, but bf said she hasn't had any calpol or anything for her , so ive put some in her bag to take home, she's just been picked up.

She should have time to change her, she never does though, shes always running late istead of getting up a bit earlier.

Wizzska · 13/06/2008 15:57

Ambi - you're absolutely right in your rant about the WHO. Best to ignore all the advice and follow common sense.

Just got DS down for a nap at last, so glad. This flat is a bomb site. DH has hurt his neck and can't move without being in agony. I've got a tummy bug which is painful and annoying but not enough for to have the illness trump card foist the housework and childcare onto DH. May have time to actually tidy up if I don't get too sidetracked by MN. Last night we got DS to bed and both groaned on the sofa waiting for each other to cave in and fetch stuff from the kitchen.

Skid I admire you for wanting to give breast milk and not formula for one year but don't worry if you don't. I've been mixed feeding all the way through, though mostly BF. I've never been ar*ed to express so have used the odd carton of formula when out and about. You've done this long and set your little one up really well. You can give yourself a break now if it will help you with your Phd.

Btw,don't know how you can do a Phd with a baby. I'm struggling to get my RHS course done, exams at the end of the month. I don't have much time to revise but at least its fairly easy work.

I know you northerners don't think so, but some of us can be quite nice down south sometimes so don't worry about your move either.

skidaddle · 13/06/2008 16:24

oh no fifi - what a nightmare with your bf's dd. hopefully it was a one-off. btw I had a dream about you last night - nothing very interesting happened in it (we were just at a baby group) but you were very very beautiful!

dundee and wizz - thanks for advice/reassurance re phd - I don't really know how on earth I'm going to get it done with two children to occupy my mind as well as my time, but I'm sure I will. Are you working dundee or just writing stuff up for publication for the future? Good luck with your RHS exams wizz and hope you and your DH feel better soon

I've decided to keep expressing for now and if the time comes when I can;t express enough for DS then I will have no choice but to give him formula. I know I will beat myself up about it rightly or wrongly if I give him formula before that so we will just see how it goes.

bouncing - yay I can make the meet-up this time. Looking forward to it!

clairey - sounds like our DS's have equally unhealthy tastes - mine, as you know, as been refusing almost all veg, porridge etc but devoured some buttery toast with salty marmite smeared all over it this morning. I bet he wouldn't say no to a chocolate hobnob either..

amani - glad to hear your DD is feeling better - isn;t sunshine good for excema - could that be it?

My mad mother is visiting this weekend - am bracing myself for her usual comments about how fat my children are and how much prettier my brother's daughters are...count to ten and breathe...

Amani · 13/06/2008 16:37

Bad night last night...DD2 kept waking every hour - think it's the teething but also the eczema aswell and the only way we got her to sleep was to put her in the car seat, where she slept for 6 hours solid. Am not keen on putting her in the car seat for that long, but as I was soooo tired just gave in.....

Where is this tooth???....better be coming soon...

Skid - good luck with the mad mother...and congrats for BF this long...

skidaddle · 13/06/2008 16:42

thanks amani

I know what you mean about teething - it just goes on forever and ever with no sign of a tooth at all, doesn't it?

I really wouldn't worry about putting DD in her car seat - it is only when they are tiny that they're supposed to lie flat

fifisworld · 13/06/2008 16:57

skid - That dream sounds about right..i am very beautiful

suey2 · 13/06/2008 17:44

hello all,
not much time for MN these days!
Skid- i express and millie hasn't had to have formula yet. One hot tip- i wear a nursing top and bra to work so that expressing is 'hands free'. It means i can eat lunch, catch up with paperwork etc. I am also determined to try not to give formula: my niece had terrible excema on formula which stopped the moment my SIL changed to cow's milk

BouncingTurtle · 13/06/2008 18:05

Hey Suey! We missed you but assumed you were dead busy with work.

Skid - woohoo! Look forward to meeting you

fifisworld · 13/06/2008 18:07

BT - Where is the meet up? Is it in Durham?
I would love to come but i think it might be a bit far for me, i dont drive

BouncingTurtle · 13/06/2008 18:20

It is - where so you live, I know it is in the NE somewhere, but could you get the train to Durham? I could always meet you at the station, where we will be going will be walking distance.

BouncingTurtle · 13/06/2008 18:21

Doh - NW I meant!

Lizzer · 13/06/2008 18:27

Hi all, haven't been on for ages.. Just about caught up with all your msgs now.

Our only news is good news, ds's first 2 teeth made an appearance yesterday and also, if anyone remembers, we lost all our first baby pics when hard drive died on us, well one morning at 6am I had a brainwave and wondered if the ipod had been in sync with iphoto as well as itunes. It had. ALL the pics from our photo library were stored there (I bloody love apple mac!)

Fifi- at your friend not being more organised to change her dd first. V cheeky imo

Amani- at meat in veg pizza, totally shocking

Clairey-LOL @ biscuits as finger food, deffo a 2nd baby (like mine too, my standards have dropped a LOT )

Also, I heart Laithwaites too-we need another order pronto

Skid-triple amazed at your phd, my friend is doing one also post-birth. I struggle remembering my own name atm

sorry have to go as ds making a desperate attempt at freedom out of the side of the 'barnacle boat', head first (not that he can get far...)

Boys are just soooo physical I'm finding, v v cuddly too though

fifisworld · 13/06/2008 18:47

BT - Im just outside of newcastle

fifisworld · 13/06/2008 18:59

If you let me know when the next one is i'll see if there are any buses that i can get that i can get on with the double buggy, dont think id be able to get it on the train without folding it and then id have the 2 ds's which would be a nightmare, will definatley sort something out and come though..do you ever meet up through the week?

BouncingTurtle · 13/06/2008 19:53

We have done so, but some of the other mums work, hence why we do it on a Saturday. Keep checking though!

Lizzer - I'm please to hear that you found your photos, that is great news!

cazzybabs · 13/06/2008 19:54

ohh have just given Evie her 1st food - she has sucked on some melon. she gummed some off but spat out the bits as she didn't know how to chew. She is a bit sticky though

becklespeckle · 14/06/2008 23:28

Hi all, sorry for the long absence again, now Evie is much more mobile (and DH is off work) I seem to have even less time! She is a gorgeous little thing but doesn't stay where you put her for a moment any more! When she is on her stomach she can now lift her legs off the ground and use her arms to spin herself around to change the direction she is facing - DH says she looks like a turtle with no shell! She is not crawling yet (thankfully) but is having a good go at getting her legs under herself and she is starting to pull herself along the carpet too. Today she has sat for the first time! She has done a few seconds unsupported before but she sat for a couple of minutes today and by this evening she was really quite good at it!

Things have not been so fab for me, I have always been a little OCD but it has got worse again lately and I have been feeling quite anxious. Luckily my HV is very approachable and she came round for a chat, she made me do that PND questionaire thingy again, got 11.5 this time (got 7 last time) so she said I was borderline but she seems confident we can sort it out. She has referred me to another lady so hopefully it can be nipped in the bud.

For all those wanting more babies but their DHs are saying no - do not despair! My DH said all along that 2 was all he wanted but having another was his idea! I think it just takes time, DS2 was around 16 months old when he first mentioned wanting another and 3 when he finally suggested it.

Another BFer here who is starving! I spoke to HV and she told me that DD is needing more calories now she is older/more active and therefore so do I. She recommended eating a bowl of cereal before bed, porridge is particularly good. I don't know if it is because of this or because she has found her 'niche' but Evie has managed to follow a line for the last 6 weeks (touch wood) instead of slowly dropping! I also think you retain weight while BFing (boobs will be heavier for starters), I lost 1/2 stone after stopping with each of my DSs.

Evie has now been having little tastes of food for the last 2 weeks, she is loving carrot and broccoli and also likes apple and bannana. She didn't like mango though and while plum went down well it gave her a rash (?!) so we will be avoiding that for a while. I started giving her a baby breakfast today - it is one that needs mixing with water rather than milk so that is great. I bought baby rice but haven't even opened it as I am too rubbish at expressing!

Lizzer, congrats on your engagement! Fab ring too! Also am glad you found all your photos on your ipod, must be such a relief!

Skid, I find it difficult to understand people's attitudes to BFing at times, personally I am proud that I am still feeding DD myself at 22 weeks and have no problems feeding her in public - I even fed her in the job centre the other day as she was fussing!

Amani, at the chicken on the pizza! Hope they got you another and you got it for free! Don't these people understand basic principles like keeping the meat stuff separate from the veggie stuff??? We went for a carvery the other day and the guy was going to pick up some stuffing and yorkies with the same serving stuff as he had used for the chippolatas - I made him go and get a clean set! I once ordered a veggie burger from McDonalds and it looked a bit odd, I thought they had changed the recipe or something - turned out it was a filet o fish burger! I was nearly sick - one of the only times I have ever had meat in my mouth.

Fifi, you are fab, your friend is very lucky to have you!

Sorry for the really long post, didn't realise I had so much to say! Hope your all having good weekends xxx
