Couldn't think of anything contraversial!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Elibean · 29/05/2008 19:59

am going to just read last few posts and post, then catch up later - or I'll never get there! Am very glad for good scans (yeay Indith) and lots of luck Lennied with yours, if you have one - and good luck deciding (not easy).

FGS, love the new name, am bound to forget - oops, just did

dd1 finally over the pox - came out in a fresh rash on Sunday night at my Mum's, to my horror, but it never blistered so must have been post-viral. She had the near perfect case, I suppose, bad enough for immunity, not too awful to live with, and no pox on face other than hairline - would loev the same for dd2, but am prepared for worse, starting any time soon!

Castles, I relate, re family visits - as you know - hope the recovery process not too awful. Mum's this weekend wasn't too bad, though have since had to do battle with totally irrational guilt because she's doing a number on me over having invited my father (the monster, how dare I) to dd2's small belated naming-day-tea in a few weeks' time. She can't possibly come if he's coming, etc [Elibean rolls eyes] reminds me of my wedding day.

Jabber, how's the move going? Gone? Been thinking of you, as we cart stuff out of loft and stick it in storage...

Scaffolding went up yesterday for loft, house feels strangely beseiged by cage awaiting crane and builders tomorrow...

But all of this is peanuts: dd2 took her first unaided steps 2 days ago, and is over the moon, as is my back

Elibean · 29/05/2008 20:01

I meant my mum and builders were peanuts, obviously, not everyone else's news

And bebespain, I'm sitting with my legs indignantly crossed on your behalf - my BF lived in Madrid for a year or two, and had some scarily similar experiences. Wonder if it was the same gynae??!

Indith · 29/05/2008 20:31

Yay baby Eli! Clever girl

Family, family...dp still trying to get over his bank holiday with his mother

Bebe bloody Spanish Drs

Eustacia.....will try to remember that one

Glad the booking in was fine Lennied. The nuchal is free here but I'm not having it, but tis all personal reasons isn't it. Hope you come to a decision that makes you feel happy.

Oh by the way....I'm free!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LenniEd · 29/05/2008 20:35

I was just thinking about you Indith and wondering if you were a proper qualified grown up now

CONGRATULATIONS!!! Wonderful news!

Also, Eli, makes you so proud doesn't it... is that everyone walking now?? Do we all have toddlers now? Where have our babies gone?

Elibean · 29/05/2008 20:51

Congrats Indith!! Are you celebrating?

Lennied, think classifying dd as 'walking' might be a tad exaggerated...I'm terribly proud, but staggering four steps between me and the armchair is about it still

Indith · 29/05/2008 20:58

Celebrating....hmmm....well I had thought I was going out tonight but I have been let down by friends. Dp has gone to the pub instead

LenniEd · 29/05/2008 21:31

Indith I'll have a celebratory orange juice with you now. Just give me a minute (after I've posted this) to pour it and I'll raise a toast

Eli, 4 steps definately counts as walking and give it 2 weeks and she'll be flying around!

Indith · 29/05/2008 21:39

Dp and I are off out tomorrow though, we are paying a babysitter and everything

bebespain · 29/05/2008 21:41

I am much clamer now - sorry about before.

Lenni - Am back "home" in July so will definitely make an appointment to see a "real" doctor then!
Funny you should mention the pessaries for a cold. We had that two! I thought I must have misheard the Doc - bizarre eh?! Glad your booking app went OK. I suppose having the same midwife is a good thing. Will look into the alternative remedies you mentioned, thanks.

bebespain · 29/05/2008 21:46

Oops posted too soon!

Eli - you made me laugh! I knew posting my experience on here would help cheer me up!And WELL DONE Baby Eli - yipee!

Indith - Great to be free! Enjoy tomorrow, me and DH are also out tomorrow evening, first time in ages. Its our wedding anniversary and I´m all excited!

accessorizequeen · 29/05/2008 21:46

Ummm, my head is spinning again, I was keeping up for about a week I think and now gone again.

Yay for baby elibean, indith's exams being over and chicken pox on the wane, I think I got all that I can only process last 3 messages normally!

Lennied, will mail you no worries. Do you still get scan at 12 weeks or nothing until 20? They don't do nuchal free here either (probably Leeds for me too if I had wanted) but it's a v.personal decision as indith says. You still have a few weeks to decide don't you, give yourself a little time.

Indith · 29/05/2008 21:48

Do a bit of a search on here bebe, sure I've seen something in the past about a combination of herbal remedies that involved starting out by taking loads and loads of evening primrose to flood the system then adding a few other things but then once things had evened out you cut back to just a low dose. Clearly my half garbled version is not to be tried at home but a thread search may turn up some ideas!

accessorizequeen · 29/05/2008 22:01

bebespain, sorry sorry forgot to reply to your post! argggh, horrible gynae why can't they understand women's stuff! I saw someone several years ago who asked me to keep a diary of symptoms etc so she could help me although I ended up not going back for varius reasons. And she said some women take a very small dose of prozac, say half a tablet every second day to try and control things if they're that bad. I know you've tried a lot of things, and believe me I know how frustrating it is as I have had major hormone problems myself! Pulsatilla and one of those 'women's' supplements helped a lot but there were times I thought I was going crazy. So last thing you need is a*&£hole of a dr!

babypowder · 29/05/2008 22:43

Bebe, my pelvic floor has gone into spasm in horror at your gynae. Evening primrose is definitely a winner in this house. (Although thanks to my blessed Mirena I no longer have to worry about such things)

Eli, it's incredible how quickly they go from the robotic 4 steps to fleeing round the garden. DD2 can run suddenly - fear of the chickens and neighbourhood cats has seen to that School of hard knocks here! I really must make an appointment with the building society to sort out funding for our extension - am dreading it. I hate doing grown-up things like speaking to banks and employing people to do things to my house.

Congratulations, Indith! I had a glass of white wine in your honor.

LenniEd, it's always so hard deciding about which tests to go for. I sympathise entirely, but have no advice at all, I'm afraid.

Jabber, trust things are OK?

Fab name, FGS.

EustaciaVye · 30/05/2008 08:08

bebespain - eek. sounds awful. I have always had bad PMT. I think eating well is a must, and evening primrose oil. Are you on the pill?

Well done Indith! Have a bar of chocolate on me to celebrate.

Well done Baby Bean for those steps. The hard work starts now Eli Hope DD2 doesnt get the pox too bad. It was exactly 2 weeks between my two.

castlesintheair · 30/05/2008 09:09

Have you just read the book EV or do you see yourself as her in some subliminal life? I always fancied myself as a bit of a Tess in my yoof.

Congrats Baby Eli no.2

Ouch Bebespain It reminds me of a highly reputed harley street gynae I used to see who always insisted on examing my rectal passage as well I asked to be transferred to another gynae and never told anyone why.

Congrats Indith. Is that your student days done and dusted then?

So nice to be back at home with my totally sane DH (even if he is at work). And the DCs are fighting already and DS reminded me it's the 1st day of summer tomorrow, so where is the sun

EustaciaVye · 30/05/2008 09:12

Did the book as an A level text castles and was very in tune with her character

Olihan · 30/05/2008 10:30

Hooray for end of studentdom, Indith . Have fun tonight but @ having to pay for babysitters. We actually turned down an evening wedding invite because of the cost of babysitters. I used to get paid £2 an hour when I did it - clearly that was back in the dark ages .

bebe, my knees are clenching together on your behalf . Magnesium is another one that's supposed to be good at helping PMT. Diet and supplements may be the way to go until you can come home!

Eli, good luck with the extension. We had our bathroom redone a while back and that was enough for me. Fingers crossed for mild cp for dd2.

AQ, I have size 18 tops if you still want them. They are very stretchy and quite long so may not leave the dreadful 'bump overhang' while containing the bosoms .

I'm 2 days into a visit by my DM so Castles and Eli, I share your pain . She's been relatively sane this time and has let DH and I lie in both mornings so I mustn't complain too much.

DS2 has a new arsenal of creams against his eczema. 3 types of steroid depending on where/how bad the flare ups are, some bath stuff (cetraben?) and a huge tub of doublebase. It seems to be working so far nd the GP promised that he'd probably sleep better once the eczema was under control . I wanted to ask for that guarantee in writing but time will tell.......

castlesintheair · 30/05/2008 10:55

Sorry to hear about the eczema Oli . Hate to say it but my friend's DS was 2 when he started sleeping thru. She became quite ruthless with the steroid cream and his really severe eczema completely cleared up. iirc she used it a week on/off, can check if you like.

LenniEd · 30/05/2008 20:47

Also share the difficult DM visits - have survived about 6 months without one now. Reckon we are due one can't say I'm looking forward to it.

How much are babysitters then? No I haven't had many nighst out!! Was also about £2 an hour in my day, and I got tormented by the kids.

Thanks for all the support on the tests, think we are going to stand our ground and not have it. Didn't last time so don't think we should change our mind now. I'll have forgotton about it soon anyway so it's not like it would have made any difference to my peace of mind.

Have a good weekend everyone... Jabber, still wondering how its going? Hope you are settling in.

Gloria42 · 30/05/2008 20:58

Re eczema, have you tried a cream called Pure Baby? It comes from the US and you buy it online, but I was recommended it by a friend whose DS suffered really badly and it really cleared up DS's skin when he was little

Olihan · 30/05/2008 22:02

Haven't heard of Pure Baby Gloria but my dad's in the US a lot so I'll ask him to look out for it.

castles, if you could check with your friend that would be great. The GP did say that kids with bad eczema do tend to be poor sleepers so any way of getting it under control would be great.

I'm in a resigned phase wrt sleeping at the moment. He'll do it one day .

Gloria42 · 30/05/2008 22:54

here's the link (hopefully) to the website, www.purebabyuk.com/ i've ordered online with no probs. It's a light cream, not like diprobase (sp?) so rubs in easily

Indith · 31/05/2008 10:35

dinner last night was lovely and ds stayed asleep for the sitter Pay is between £5 and £10 an hour these days so I'm told I used to get £5 if they came back before midnight and £10 after! And that involved regularly chucking the kids back into bed and confiscating the TV one of them had in her room.

Oli I hope the excema can be brought under control. Ds only has it mildly but I do notice a difference when he flares up in sleep, or if he is ill and comes in with us I notice him itching it while he tosses around. I am in love with bath stuff, makes for a very slippery baby but it doesn't half make a difference.

This not having to study thing is great, am catching up on jobs like cleaning the windows and scrubbing the damp

Elibean · 31/05/2008 13:34

Oli, dd2's eczema is v mild atm, but sleeping through is still fairly exceptional - she tends to wake in early hours and need a drink of water, and a good cough but does go back to sleep. Am also resigned, for now!

Can't type properly, got infected middle finger on r hand and sore index from cut - v v inconvenient for life in general and nappy changing in particular. Just hope healed b4 cp arrives! No sign, but definitely grumpy today....keep sending those mild pox vibes...will be 2 weeks on Monday since dd1's first spot appeared, though she was not well over weekend before that so is 2 weeks now I suppose...
