Couldn't think of anything contraversial!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Its funny, I keep thinking dd2 is the brightest, funniest, most switched on baby I've ever met (as one does) but dd1 was definitely ahead on language, shape/colour recognition, etc (possibly because I read more books to her!). I've forgotten...so I don't really compare (for all the wrong reasons)...

I can't believe dd2 is asleep with the banging going on upstairs - the bathroom lights all popped out of their sockets earlier, and strange things are falling down the chimney.

Indith, have a good time adventuring, and with your Mum (did a double take at her age - she's only a few years older than me ) mine is coming here for weekend

Elibean · 13/06/2008 14:06

EV, dd1 didn't say even 'mama' for AGES. It was all dadada or papapa

dd2, OTOH, made it her first word. She's smart: I was very unsure about having her in the first place, so she's made sure of my undying love

Indith · 13/06/2008 14:10

Right. in some sort of order....

The sleepover was great but I was soooo exhausted after!

Well done Oli on honing BFC skills on your sister

Jabber your Nephew's child is clearly a monster and she is in denial.

EV ds can do mamamamamamamam type things too but never says it to me! Dp had his second "daddy" the other day too So cute though, he walked through the door, ds looked up and sayd "dad-deeeeee"

AQ hope you have had a few good nights without feeling like you are on E/speed.

BP your dd is clearly ace, you should expect her to begin adding business skills to the self defense soon. Don't be surprised if she starts a protection racket, bending both the bully and the other kids to her will

I know not who pepper pig is but I am deeply disturbed by the thought of fancying a porcine animal. I prefer mine in rashers on my plate before I salivate over them.

Hello Penny! Have this lot totally lost you yet?

Eli glad dd escaped the pox.

Oli happy you enjoyed your first night under canvas.

Ds is another one who likes to put things away but he needs some practice. Today he has been very intent on putting dou dou in the oven. Perhaps he is trying to tell me he wants rabbit stew for dinner

BP I'm with you on the bells and whistles camping

Sunscreen. I burn. Lots. I slather the cream on myself and ds as I fear the hugely increased risk of skin cancer with every time you burn. And tanning may not be as obviously serious as burning but it is still doing damage to your skin. Of course I am not toally anal and going a bit brown in the summer is normal and healthy, we need some sun exposure to convert vit D (though in my case any brown is just freckles merging). The Green People do a lovely sunscreen with minimal nasties.

Well done Calm for the job!

Margo thanks for the FB message, hope people come out of hiding and identify themselves. You all know who I am right? The Durham and Russian kind of gives it away I feel Will have to change profile soon. How do you think IndithBA will look?

Indith · 13/06/2008 14:12

Lol Eli, she keeps insisting she isn't 50. She tried to be 40 but had to remind her she was 48 for 2 years in a row so she has to be at least 49. She was slightly younger that I was when I had ds when she had my sister. Tis ok though, I'm sure she has more grey hair than you

Elibean · 13/06/2008 14:27

Indith, I have no idea how many grey hairs I have - the wonders of semi-permanent colour

I am going to have to send Peppa Pig DVDs to those of you have never met her. I won't be able to sleep at night thinking of what you poor dears are missing out on, otherwise. (And I am NOT referring to Daddy Pig here, truly, honestly, not)

Elibean · 13/06/2008 14:28

dd had peeling parts once, after nappy rash - I used metanium and vaseline, v good. But is your ds's willy sore?

Elibean · 13/06/2008 14:29

I still don't know what words to use in English, for female genitalia. I think its dh's job to figure this one out, since he is responsible for teaching English to the dds, but all the same its tricky...

...any thoughts?! I know its been done to death on other sections of MN

Indith · 13/06/2008 15:07

No willy not sore at all.

I think personally that front bottom is a good one, they can relate to it well (it is the bottom that wee comes out of). Vagina sounds so biology lesson like and anything else is either too whimsical or too sexual (as in flower or pussy for example). Fanny is ok I suppose but for some reason that seems to be pretty knows by kids to be a funny word.

EustaciaVye · 13/06/2008 15:17

Eli - we have bottom and bits here.

jabberwocky · 13/06/2008 15:26

Indith, I am in awe of your catch-up post! Ds1 has had some red, chapped skin there especially when we were going through his second potty training session (that went on and on and on...) I finally used some over the counter steroid cream and that did the trick. Ds2's eczema has really kicked off with the heat. So much so that dh actually agreed he should go back into cloth diapers

eli, I think vulva has the latest consensus on female parts. I have always used penis with the boys although it makes dh squirm to hear me say it for some reason

bp, hope your days have improved. I always just want to go back to bed when I have a day like that.

Elibean · 13/06/2008 16:02

dh has taught them 'penis' (dd asked 'whats THAT? Hahahaha!!! when she was 2 and saw her Daddy having a pee ) and dd1 has learnt 'willy' from her schoolmates as well....I'll never forget the time we were walkign through the Wetland Centre and dh said 'I just need to go to the toilets' and dd shouted 'are you going to wee, with your PENIS?' to the delight of crowds of visitors

I think she's heard 'front bottom' at pre-school, and it does make sense to her, but I personally can't hack it at all - it makes me squirm, not sure why. Ditto fanny (I lived next door to a Fanny when I was six). So I lurch from bits to anatomical terms, trouble is I do'nt always know which anatomical part I'm referring to:

dd itches herself in front: is this 'dd, is your vulva itchy?' or 'dd, is your vagina itchy?' they're so....specific, IYSWIM.

castlesintheair · 13/06/2008 19:45

I say vagina. S'pose you could just use the c word. It's etymology is rooted in medieval literature (cf Chaucer) so you could quote that at anyone if they get arsey .

Meant to be going out tonight with DH and guess what, he's late! Baby-sitter due to arrive at 8pm. Looks like it will be me and her having a fun night in.

I posted something earlier. Can't remember for the life of me what it was but I am sure it was very important . Has anyone else's MN gone all weird graphically?

You can tell it's Friday night and my brain has gone awol can't you?

accessorizequeen · 13/06/2008 20:17

Indith, couldn't meet up. Has only just occurred to me that ds could have had tea at mine, where were my manners?! Tho ds2 slept until 4.15! So tired though I slept through bob the builder, kipper, pingu and angelina despite ds1 talking to me the whole time as well. I don't think he realised!

accessorizequeen · 13/06/2008 20:19

have some choccie and a glass of wine, castles

laughing at all this front bottom stuff

visit from teacher went fine today, she & nursery nurse came, ds1 chatted to both but had to admit he poos himself every day! 3 times today arggggh.....

Olihan · 13/06/2008 20:39

Eli, we have 'willy' for the dss/dh and 'bits' for dd (hairy bits for me,courtesy of ds1!). We were at a horse rescue place when ds2 was about 2.5 and I took him to the toilet. Once he'd been I had a quick wee, at which point ds1 asked at the top of his voice "Mummy, are you going to wipe your hairy bits now?" When I emerged dh and several other men were in fits of laughter having heard everything. The joys of having kids, eh?

Ds2's talking is coming on in huge leaps, his newest phrase is 'I love you', but only in the context of the Barney song , which Dd sings to him all the time. He has 'Mummy' down to a fine art - he gets plenty of practice shouting it at the top of voice at 5am each morning! I'm just hoping he won't be quite as talkative as ds1 who rarely pauses to draw breath.

Father's Cake done, dcs are very overexcited - ds1 has already tried to tell dh it's a tent cake with the 3 of them in it but dh is being very good at stopping him before the pertinent details escape . Just 2 more to go before next weekend.......

accessorizequeen · 13/06/2008 20:47

Good god, oli - can't believe you're making all these cakes! ds1 & I are making fudge brownies tomorrow afternoon, I've never made before but his choice Is your ds v.talkative then, mine just will never stop and it drives me crazy at times. I'm getting him assessed shortly as he has a delayed speech problem kind of like a stammer but once he gets going...It's a wonder ds2 talking at all, he can hardly get a word in edgewise so he yells over the top! V.impressed by I love you, I think I got that at 2.6 not 1.6!

Olihan · 13/06/2008 21:44

DS1 was talking in 4 or 5 word sentences when he was 17mo and hasn't stopped since. He literally does not stop - he'll ask questions occasionally but not wait for the answers, it's like a stream of (endless) consciousness and it sends me BANANAS . I just have to tell him to stop talking or send him into the garden, so I can have some peace. It's lovely in a way but it's very draining too. Goodness knows what school are going to make of him!

DS2's 'I love you' has no meaning, btw, it's purely in the 'I love you, you love me, we're a happy family ' context of the Barney theme tune. He also sings 'DorDorDor Por' in a pretty good approximation of the Dora theme tune. Again, courtesy of DD! He's also perfected 'Mimi' whilst rummaging down my t'shirt - no hope of ignoring whhat he means by that.

I'm going to the PO tomorrow to post the clothes to you, so they'll hopefully be with you early next week.

Elibean · 13/06/2008 21:56

Am very glad to hear dss can be as talkative as dds - dd1 tells me long, convoluted stories for hours on end, never pausing to draw breath. I doubt dd2 will get a word in edgeways

Thank you for sharing your genital stories with me, feel quite inspired!

AQ, you need to sleep by the sound of it - especially after making all those impressive cakes! I hadn't thought of even one but have cards at the ready, and dd1 has made stuff at pre-school, and for some reason bought dh a belt he wanted (I was desperate for ideas).

And he'll get a good lie-in

My DM is staying, we took her out for dinner and got her slightly tipsy, she's much easier in that state

Elibean · 13/06/2008 21:57

ok, I got cake makers muddled, sorry: AQ, sleep is good - do more, you're entitled! And Oli, I'm very impressed by the cakes.

and I'm not remotely tipsy, I drank fizzy water.

EustaciaVye · 13/06/2008 22:01

I have got DH a card from the girls and 3 books from Amazon. They look cool. One is called Great Lies to tell smart kids and the other is the Pocket dangerous book for boys I also got Andrew Marr's History of Great Britain to prove I see him as an adult

CocodeBear · 13/06/2008 22:22

hello everyone, this thread moves FAST.

I can't bring myself to say vagina, I just cannot make my mouth pronounce the letters, so it's fanny in our house. Or bits.

EV, I have read that HSC book you mentioned last week. My DD1 is definitely a HSP. DD2 thankfully is not.

So, what's everyone doing for father's day, if anything? DH will get a lie-in, but he gets one every Sunday anyway. Also getting a couple of small pressies from the girls (a mug and some man-bubblebath). Now I've written them down, it sounds like quite a poor present! Hope he doesn't pour scorn on the man bubbles.

Then we're out for a 30th in the evening.

We spent last weekend at the seaside it was LOVELY

Olihan · 13/06/2008 22:50

DH is getting cards, a cake (but that's mainly because his b'day is less than a week after both boys' b'days and I do not have the time, energy or inclination to decorate another cake at that time of year, so this is to make up for it!), and some herbs to go in the window boxes which he's wanted for ages.

Olihan · 13/06/2008 22:51

Coco, I also snorted Coke out of my nose at the line 'I can't bring myself to say vagina, I just cannot make my mouth pronounce the letters', it really tickled me .

Elibean · 14/06/2008 10:34

Oli, I did a double-take at your Coke snorting, and then had another at Coco's post: a good start to the day

I've just sent the dds out with dm to buy flowers for daddy tomorrow tbh, its mostly because I need half an hour to empty a soon-to-be-demolished landing cupboard. But dh likes flowers anyway, being a gardener at heart...

Both dds have nasty sounding coughs and slight colds: allergies or something croupy??

Elibean · 14/06/2008 10:35

Coco, at the seaside trip - it sounds great, where did you go?
