Couldn't think of anything contraversial!

Jabber - Been there, dont that with the sunscreen. DD1 and I had a big to do about putting it on yesterday actually. I always burn

Agree about the potty too. DD1 started at 2.3 and did very well but it then went a bit haywire. Really we should have waited longer but I wanted her out of nappies before DD2 came.

Elibean · 09/06/2008 11:18

No spots, no sunburn (luck, really, 'cos I do same - remember girls and forget me ) or removed nappies. All good.

Oli, I hereby promise to stop Piggy wind-ups

Jabber, a day at the lake sounds glorious....beats our local pond, I expect...

Half our roof is off. Here's hoping no thundery showers, eh?!

babypowder · 09/06/2008 16:06

I really struggle with the sunscreen thing. I can't believe that smearing chemicals over ourselves in the quantity recommended can be beneficial. My DH thinks we're all behaving as though the sun is something recently invented to generate revenue! I cover the kids up, put hats on, and do use sunscreen on any exposed bits - and then hope for the best. I did notice, though, that DD2 has a little tan line on her legs where her socks end, so maybe even that isn't enough.

Eli, it's such a scary moment, when the roof comes off! Fingers crossed.

castlesintheair · 09/06/2008 18:38

BP, my DCs are all brown and I use sunblock. It's genetic imo. You either tan or you don't. The point of using sunblock is so you don't burn and to block out those harmful rays I guess. I agree with you about piling on all those chemicals though

Gawd, innit been hot today? I absolutely love it but have noticed an increased sweatiness all round.

EustaciaVye · 09/06/2008 19:54

I hate this heat. Dd1 is like me so we've both been a bit grumpy. She is pale/pink so burns easily. DD2 has yellower skin so seems to cope with the sun better.

MARGOsBeenPlayingWithMyNooNoo · 09/06/2008 20:32

Hey there! - I've sent a message to you all. I hope I haven't been too presumptuous (sp?)

It´s so funny to read about how how hot it is in England at the moment. We are still inundated with rain, its bizarre So yet another day spent incacerated at home with DS climbing the walls and me not far behind! Just half watching the news at the moment, one Spanish province looks like its about to disappear under water . I think mother nature is getting her own back

I too struggle with the sunscreen thing. Normally I would have to be slathering DS in the stuff this time of year but I hate putting it on him. Its even worse at the moment because he will not keep a sun hat on for love nor money. Any tips anyone...? I have tried every kind of head gear known to man, the latest being a bandana (I know I am desperate!)and wow does he hate that!

Anyway hope England stays dry as we´re back there for a few days next week although I´m with you EV I HATE the heat - hot, sticky and sweaty yuck!!

Hope everybody is well and there are not too many poorly LOs...

jabberwocky · 09/06/2008 20:51

Well, here in the southern US it is "use sunscreen or burn immediately to a crisp". We'll hit 100 degrees fahrenheit next month I'm sure and with the humidity covering oneself up is not much of an option. Ds1 would prefer to be naked all summer and ds2 looks to be of that inclination as well, lol.

Here's hoping you have indeed may it through without dd2 getting the pox, eli. She's had enough this last year and a half I would say.

wrinklytum · 10/06/2008 02:35

Sorry to crash your thread ladies but a quick message for AQ.

Hi,AQ,sorry for my lack of contact recently, things have been really hectic since going back to work and I've been a bit down and not really up to socialising,so hence lack of contact really.Dead chuffed you are having 1 of each, yay!!!Saw your ds 1 today at nursery and he was making me and nursery nurse giggle with tall tale about magic sand.LOL.Will get in touch when I'm a bit more myself...dp still having bad days at times with health and lots of tests/appointments wih dd,not a moment to turn round really.Thinking of you even if have been crappy friend recently, hugs,Wrinkly xxxx

accessorizequeen · 10/06/2008 09:27

Calmriver · 10/06/2008 10:35

I have landed a really cool job working for 'your local london'
Basically for my area, editing and updating a website, listing all the goings on, small businesses etc, property ads(privately-only £5!) and chats, etc.

The small businesses or private businesses will pay £10 a month and have access to the site, so that they can do their own updating, specials etc...such a good idea!

and its from HOME!!!

babypowder · 10/06/2008 12:12

Calm, that is so cool! I would love to do something like that (I already work 2 - 3 days from home a week, but would love it to be a permanent arrangement)

I'm having one of those weeks, I think. I managed to upset a load of other school mums at the sports day yesterday by asking a genuinely innocent questions about the reports that have come out. This morning my car died, and I need a new alternator - hate paying for car stuff. I've just upset some colleagues with a throw-away remark that I didn't mean. Surely it can only get better.

DD2 has bounced back from her illness in record time and with no ill effects. How do they do that? If I'd spent the whole day vomiting I'd still be feeling sorry for myself next week

EustaciaVye · 10/06/2008 13:52

Calm - well done!

BP - I hate those kind of days

I am quite excited as these got delivered today. A teddy box for each of the girls. And they also get a bean bag each and DD1 gets this for her room. My house WILL be tidy again.

castlesintheair · 10/06/2008 14:22

BP, it's never as bad as you think ... or that's what I tell myself anyway

Bebespain, re hats. I have trouble with DD2 and keeping them on too. The only thing I can think of (hasn't worked with me yet) is to put hat on when they are directly in sunlight so they can see benefit for themselves. Do it enough and it works, or it did for my other two.

Thanks for fb thingy Margo. Who are all these new people? Please 'introduce' yourselves. I am intrigued

DS is off school today with a dodgy eye. Not really a reason to be off but I never need much persuading ... Talking of saddos, thanks for the reminder EV, I'm off to order some more storage boxes from argos

babypowder · 10/06/2008 14:38

EV, I get very excited by things like that, too! I love getting the Lakeland catalogue when they have all their 'organising' stuff in it.

I've not upset anyone on here today, have I? This is my refuge

babypowder · 10/06/2008 14:38

And I've just heard that it's going to cost £750 to fix my car

Elibean · 10/06/2008 16:18

((BP)) I know those days...nothing for it but to wait for it to be over, tuck yourself up in bed early and forget it asap. Tricky to do with the car bill, I expect

Calm, congratulations - sounds great!

EV, I love things to put things in as much as dd2 does...though for some reason (nothing to do with me, I'm sure) they never seem to make an ounce of difference to the state of my house

O its hot. dd2 and I have been delivering NCT magazines around the neighbourhood and I haven't had anything to do with NCT since pg with dd1, always mean to say 'enough' and keep forgetting! Roofer is here...bang bang bang...

MARGOsBeenPlayingWithMyNooNoo · 10/06/2008 21:16

I've also deleted a couple of messages on the FB group that mentions MN.

My, I'm bossy all of a sudden!

Poor BP - You week sound rotteen - it must get better.

I'm getting really stuck in to my gardening at the moment

OP posts:
Olihan · 10/06/2008 21:34

Oh BP, Foot in Mouth disease, that's what it is. The only cure is a big bar of G&B's and a good book .

Haven't been on Facebook for ages but will check it later.

EV, how's your friends' little boy with cancer? Thinking about FB reminded me.

I've got a Father's Day cake, MIL's birthday cake and a cake to decorate for our local village fete all to do in the next 10 days so I may be AWOL for a bit!

Elibean · 10/06/2008 21:55

omg, Father's Day

I do have cards at the ready, but forgot it was this weekend and my mother is coming. Not the best father's day present

Any loft conversion survivors amongst you: would you recommend camping in dust during the stair break-through and build bit, or sealing all doors and heading off to a B&B for a night or two? Can't decide which would be the most work!

babypowder · 10/06/2008 22:18

Eli, I say get out. There will be a lot of dust.

accessorizequeen · 10/06/2008 22:21

Gosh, I haven't checked in for a while! DS2 not v.well since Thurs.

Welcome Pen, our first set of twins on this thread (aside from Margo's 10? year olds!) I'm sure they're absolutely adorable

BP, I know just the feeling, hope you're enjoying a nice bar of g&b as suggested! Some days I should just keep my gob shut. And no, you haven't offended on here I'm fairly sure so your refuge is safe!

I lurrrve Lakeland too but I'm not allowed to get the catalogue anymore

Calm, congrats on the job, sounds fab

Thanks for FB'ing Margo, I'm far too lazy to go over there unless someone's posted photos!

Eli, I would personally prefer a b&b but mainly because ds1 would be chatting/bothering the builders & covering himself in god knows what for days!

MARGOsBeenPlayingWithMyNooNoo · 10/06/2008 22:56

AQ - eek! I've 10 yo twins?! - I'll excuse you (just this once, mind) for mixing me up with Godzilla.

Lakeland is the best shop in the world. I'd buy everything in it if I had the money - but then, if I had the money, surely I'd just get someone in to do the household chores.

Olihan - good news about friends son. He is officially in remission as of a few weeks ago. It will be a log road ahead as he has to have monthly tests to bsee if it is coming back and they are also unsure of affects of chemo on his hearing and kidneys. But it is birthday soon
