princessllama · 25/06/2008 21:51

haven't had a chance to read through except top 2-really glad ds1 loved his school rozzy. alkar that's fantastic news about the weight gain.
i'm completely shaken. ferdie was rushed into hospital this afternoon with suspected meningitis. it's been horrible watching 12 people standing over him whilst he screamed and they tried to put tubes in everywhere. i've just left him in intensive care on his own to get some sleep but i feel awful not being with him. so tired though. dh not in great state either. they said they'd ring if anything changes but he seems to have improved alot

bovrilsarnies · 25/06/2008 22:56

Hi Cosima - Size 2 Fluffles are for 10lb to 35lb weight range - or as they advertise it birth to todler. (The front of the nappy folds down to turn it into a size 1 nappy for 5lb to 18lb weight range). I use the booster inserts that come with the fluffles nappies and an additional fleece liner at night to keep her bum nice and dry. They are really absorbent - and the only time I have had a problem with BF runny poo is when the nappy was on slightly wonky and she pooed directly out the side I tell thee it wasn't pretty!! I was holding her on my hip at the time .

Lucyand2 - Totaly with you on the big fluffy bum effect! it's a shame to cover them in the wraps - the nappies are so very soft it's like a teddy bear's bum!

bovrilsarnies · 25/06/2008 23:04

OMG Princessllama - just posted my message and seen yours! Hope all is well for Ferdie - I have had personal experience with Meningitis scare - good to hear that he seems to have improved a lot!! I think if they get anti biotics into them soon enough that usually does the trick!! Try not to worry and make sure you and hubby get some rest. xxx

Gill79 · 25/06/2008 23:06

Hello! I love your curls too Egg. I think DS2 was the real star wasn't he? Loved the way he got camera time on the presenter's knee without mum and sis.

Sarah - yet again a night of impressive binge drinking and NO hangover. Well done girl and love the limo and general pinkness going on there!

Sally -glad things are settled down a bit with DH. Tyaca and Cosima it's reassuring to hear about other people's non existant sex lives. I've just never felt less like it and hve actually done a bit of looking around mumsnet about this subject. Links to b/f are debated but it seems it takes some people YEARS to get back to normal. Yikes. The slightly worrying thing is I don't think DP is that bothered by it.

Ginger at your PILs. Issues!!

Who mentioned Mary Queen of Shops? Haven't managed to watch any of this series but I love that show; I think she's brilliant.

Right, we were supposed to go camping. So we went to Devon and put the tent up, put up Malcy's little travel cot tent inside it and skipped off to the wedding. At 11pm after much alcohol and rain DP decided we should stay in a self catering that some of our mates were staying at instead. So we got a taxi back to the campsite at 1am where DP ran between tent and taxi chucking useful looking things into taxi, including travel cot, poles going everywhere, piles of clothes, odd shoes etc. Drove for miles down dark single track roads, wrong turn into a field, stopped to chase a bullock out of the road. Discovered we didn't really know where the cottage was - all we knew was the name - we just assumed taxi driver would know where it was dumb ass city types. Ended up dropped outside the wrong place all our stuff all over the road plus LO in car seat beginning to feel like BAD parents. V luckily mates came past in taxi and rescued us and took us to their cottage. There was a spare single bed upstairs so I took that with LO on the floor. Well, all's well that ends well and the next morning the sun was shining and the hangover manageable UNTIL I turned back the cover of the bed I was sleeping in and discovered I had spent the night under a duvet cover smeared with POO. So basically the last guests in the self catering must have had an incident in the bed [no suitable emoticon available] and then the ownes hadn't bothered to change the linen. Sorry if I've ruined anyone's breakfast - it took the edge off my own day somewhat.

Well DP is out for work drinks two nights in a row this week and it took me two hours to get LO to sleep in his cot. It is so annoying as he'll be asleep in seconds anywhere else. I let him cry for about 5 minutes a couple of times but he just works himself into a state. It's very time consuming so I really hope it pays off!

Hope everyone else is ok - sorry for rambling on for so long.

Gill79 · 25/06/2008 23:09

Princess! Thinking about you all. Is DH with you at the mo? Glad things look like they;re getting better.... Keep us posted please.

tyaca · 25/06/2008 23:25

princess thinking of you and ferdie and your family x

Gill79 · 25/06/2008 23:28

Visiting Egg thread here

sallyforth · 26/06/2008 03:27

Hello to all, I am up feeding LO again... don't really mind as can lie-in in the mornings still. DH is being an absolute gem at the moment, hurrah. we had a lovely chat today at how we are going to wean DS really nicely so he doesnt become a fussy eater famous last words....

Everyone here is agog at the murder. The local paper only comes out once a week but we think when it does come out it will sell out immediately!

PL - OMG! hope ferdie gets better v v soon and that they rule out meningitis etc. how scary for you and your DH. thinking of you xxx

gingermumi - at your PILs!!! can't believe supposedly sane adults could behave like that.

tyaca - hope the gaviscon is working out for your DD

lucy - glad your move went ok in the end and that you have got off to such a good start in your new place suppose colds etc are the downside of all those toddler groups!

cosima - bit of a nightmare re formula allergy! hope your DS is better on whatever the new stuff is (lyophilised formula?)

rozzy - at your running ability. i reckon i should get back to running but need to work up gently from walking, also am worried my enormous BFing boobs will be just too uncomfortable!!!

alkar - congrats on the weight gain! you must be so pleased. honestly sometimes i wonder if HV scales are as accurate as they are purported to be.

Gill - at the poo incident!!!!! ewwwwww we are going on a self catering cottage holiday in a few weeks, I shall check the beds VERY carefully before I get in

  • also admire your strength of mind re cot. I cannot be bothered with all that crying and shushing so have become an unashamed co-sleeper! much to my mum's dismay as she is convinced I will lie on DS in the night!
alkar · 26/06/2008 08:49

Any news on ferdie Princess? Hope he gets better really soon, at least you got him seen to quickly. Keep us posted.

Gill that so horrible how could anyone do that and then the owners just ignoring it, poor you.

Well I had a really bad nights sleep last night. Put DS in his own room for the first time, he slept from 10 til 8 but I was up constantly checking on him. Its easier listening to his snuffling next to me all night

cosima · 26/06/2008 08:59

oh gill that has really made me laugh. Sorry. What a palaver!

tyaca - I'm with you on the back to work dilemma. I'm too clingy I know, but I can't bare to leave him but have no choice.

Princess - hope all is well. Thinking of you.

Have washed the fluffles and even the six I've got won't fit in the nappy bucket! Gonna brave it today though

Egg · 26/06/2008 09:10

Bloody hell Princess. Poor Ferdie, and you and DH. Hope he is still improving. Cannot imagine how scary it must be. Makes me feel bad for being peed off with DD screaming her head off. Might go and give her a cuddle.

Gill will head over to the meet up thread in a mo, thanks for organising! Even if only one or two of you make it I will still be over the moon.

And as for your poo story, that is just hideous. I mean really hideous. I forgot to reply to your text as think I was busy when I got it, and had been wondering how you slept in poo that was not yours or Malc's. I was guessing some cow poo in your tent tbh, and that would have been preferable.

Rozzy love picturing your DS1 all chuffed to bits. I love seeing my DS1's face when he is proud of himself. Roll on 4 years time when all three are in school (well, a bit more than 4 years I guess).

Alkar fab news that lo has gained so much! So glad you stuck with it and didn't listen to the HV advice.

DD was a PITA last night. Would not feed at bedtime (had solids but only a total of 70ml milk (2.5oz), then would not feed with DH at 10pm (had 3oz eventually), so woke at 12:30am and 5:30am. Grrr.

Right, need to phone our agent as our washing machine is broken . Did not need to be mopping floor at 5:45pm last night whilst trying to feed 2 babies and one toddler.

rozzyraspberry · 26/06/2008 14:27

Princess -hope Ferdie is ok - thinking of you all.

Sally - I have a super duper shock absorber bra that seems to keep my boobs under control when running (even though I'm 3 cup sizes bigger than normal!).

Lo got his first prescription today - he has an eye infection (probably picked up when we went swimming on Tuesday). He's fine but I wanted to get it sorted out as things like that are really infectious and I didn't want the other 2 to catch it.

Gill - it was me who mentioned queen of shops - I really like it too but must be really unfashionable because I find some of her outfits very strange (neon pink tights one night - and she's not exactly a teenager). There's some new Gok Wan (sp?) thing on tonight which I might watch.

sallyforth · 26/06/2008 21:05

hello ladies

so, the nice news is DS has learnt to suck his toes - cute eh?

what is not so nice is that I discovered this while changing a poo-laden nappy - he dipped his big toe in the poo and then sucked it

he is now gurgling away looking v pleased with himself

you may now return to your normal programming

princessllama · 26/06/2008 21:54

just back from hosp. have left dh with ferdie for the night to try and get some sleep. he's out of intensive care and into paed. ward in his own room. much less stressful in there. it's been a hard day i've had to hold him down countless times whist they take tubes out and put tubes in. i'm a bit of a mess. -literally as well as figuratively, have had diarrhoea on my jeans all day as forgot that came home to change them and went back to hosp still wearing. doesn't beat your poo story gill. am dreading tomorrow's lumbar puncture. dh feints at blood etc so i'm on my own for it. will try to get my mum. just hope dd doesn't wake again tonight. she was up four times last night-typical. i lost it on the way back when crossing zebra crossing and man hooted at me in car.-called him a 'bldy fg c**'. he looked a bit surprised. i felt alot better

sarahmikeharryandrosie · 26/06/2008 21:57

We are thinking of you Princess, hope everything is ok for you all xxxxxx

Gill- you have had me in stitches !!!!

The hen night was pretty pink!!!!!! had a fab time though and still at no hangover!!!!

Sally- [hmmm] at poo covered toes!!!! hopefully its not going to be a trend for them all lol

Hope everyone is well, very of the meet up would love to come but its too far from the mids xxxx

good luck tomorrow princess xxx {{{{{{and I think these are MN hugs}}}}}}

CountTo10 · 26/06/2008 22:29

Hi all, still crap with posting but have caught up a bit!!

Princess - God, I can't imagine what you must be going through. Thoughts with you all and try and get some rest tonight x

Alkar - great news re weight gain, hope it keeps up!

Sallyforth - OMG re a murder, must be really weird! Least it appears to be an isolated incident. My lo is also sucking toes all of a sudden but its such the cutest thing!!!

Egg - right well obviously slightly jealous somewhat of how fantastic you look and how gorgeous your twins are!! I know it was a while ago but re your post on ds1 smacking and then you smacking, we had quite a bit of that a while ago but fingers crossed it has calmed down now. I have to admit I have smacked ds1, not hard, a couple of times. On one occasion though it was cause he was significantly running out into roads and he has since stopped doing it. Still not good I know but I do feel that in extreme circumstances such discipline has its place - god I sound victorian!! On the other occasion it was out of temper cause he's really hurt me and I did sit him down and apologise as I shouldn't have it done it. He did ask me if I was going to go to the naughty corner!!

Rozzy - your idea of reward tokens sounds like a really good idea. We'd thought about a start chart with achieving over a certain number getting a special treat. Also very impressed with the running!!

Gill79 - I can't even discuss the poo thing, it's too gross!!!

SarahMike - glad hen night was good - sounds like quite a night - v. impressed with your dh re domestic bliss the next day!!

Gingermumi - blimey your in laws sound totally barmy - sorry its a nightmare with them, must make things very hard for your dh.

Tyaca - hope the gaviscon is working. We used it with ds1 who had chronic reflux and it worked after just a couple of days and made life so much easier!!

Lucy2 - glad move went well, hope you're getting settled in.

Well, glad I got all that out!!

So things here are good although one week just seems to merge into another!!! Haven't been up to much. Took dc to local fair couple of weeks back, ds1 hated it, threw a huge tantrum so we had to leave - too noisy apparantly!!! Saw SATC which I absolutely loved, especially as we got the exclusive seats so we got to drink beer and had complimentary quality street!! Errrm what else, not much really. DS1 (fingers hugely crossed) seems to be calming down somewhat. Spent mon am at his preschool with him and he seemed to thrive on it and has been lovely since. I;m hoping he's understanding that he's still my baby too and that he's as important to me as ds2. DS2 looking fantastic and such a lovely bundle. Am wondering if he's got a tooth starting as he's been very up and down, dribbling like mad and chomping really hard. Think it's a while off though as it comes and go....oh the joys!!! I recommend Ashton & Palmers salts for teething btw.
So now I've bored everyone to tears that's me done!!!

No weigh in anymore?

Gill79 · 26/06/2008 22:37

Sally LOL at toes. (Hopefully there will come a time when our best stories do not involve poo.) LO loves grabbing his toes but not made their way into his mouth yet.

tyaca · 26/06/2008 23:02

not had time to read thru the posts properly but just to say princess v glad ferdie out of intensive care. had menigitas [sp] now been rules out? cant even imagine what it must be like. reckon its one of those times you will get thru and then wham you'll feel it later. gl for tomo we will all be thinking of you

tyaca · 26/06/2008 23:33

poo talk? fantastic. gaviscon seems to be working its toxic magic on dd - still a v pukey baby, but no longer prolonged sessions of pained sqealing. BUT - and here's the poo bit -- she's gone from one every other day to three a day. and they're papery. how can poo be papery?

ok, glad you said that about dh not esp bothered re the humpety-hump gill. dh makes noises, but u think he;s just being nice and knows i will not say yes so we can both just get some much needed kip.

sally, dd found her (poo-less) feet this week. DH was there, i wasnt. DH also there for her first laugh and first time she rolled on side. what are the odds? i'm with her 23 hours of the day, and yet she pulls out all the tricks for him ... i am plotting my revenge tho' by the repeated use of the words "momma, momma". that first shall be mine [psycho emoticion]!

cosima - how are the nappies going? i have just ordered wraps and liners and waiting to get crack-a-lacking.

rozzy, how's your LO's eyes? i'm afraid i didnt really like the mary prog. felt like it was another transformational doc format which would never be as good as say the fab ramsey kitchen nightmares...

sarah, if you want to give me your email address (or facebook id), i can give you my mobile number and you can text us a question to be asked at meet up. see it as a meeting between cyber world and RL. we will report back online! nothing too clever obvs, i'm thinking "who's got the brighest top on?" "who was latest?" and other such non-cerebral nonesense !

hiya countto10 - glad your ds1 enjoyed preschool. no, no weigh in at all this weekend, good spot. my excuse... i put on 2lb , should update nonetheless.

well guess what i just did guys? i ran 10k! well, nearly. i walked for three minutes in the middle, and two minutes at the end and i run almost insanely slowly but am still so chuffed.

ThursdayNext · 26/06/2008 23:33

Hello all. I've not been on this thread since we were all pregnant but thought I would try and catch up... however am somewhat defeated by 522 posts!

Princess, hope Ferdie is getting better and you are all coping as well as possible. What a nightmare for you.

I've been browsing through everyones photos, what a lot of lovely babies!

I had a girl who arrived a month early so she's now 5 months. Birth was fine, she's rather cute, I think, and DS hasn't tried to do anthing too violent to her yet so all going well here!

Egg, I am in awe of your ability to look after twins and a toddler and not be a hysterical wreck. I am so impressed, you sound very calm and together.
I'm putting off solid food until 6 months cause I find it such a faff, so I can't give you any advice on how to make sure all the children get fed.

LOL at the feet sucking Sally. DD hasn't got her feet into her mouth yet so I should be safe from that delight for the moment

Lots of you seem to be using cloth nappies. I used disposables with DS but I'm using cloth for DD. I'm finding them rather addictive to buy, some of them look so cute. I love the big fat cuddly bottom look!

Gill, yuck, (queasy emotion), oh that's really, really vile. I'm very impressed you even thought of camping with a little baby though, I am a complete camping wuss

Will try and check in again slightly more often than once every 6 months!

sarahmikeharryandrosie · 27/06/2008 09:19

Welcome back thursday- its so good to hear from you, pop a pic on you profile so we can see you gorge DD too!!!

Tyaca- thanks thats a great idea- cyber meetup!!lol WD on you running- i think i would be dead- where do you find the motivation??????

Good to heaqr from you too count-

hope everyone is well-we ae good here,

OP posts:
alkar · 27/06/2008 11:20

Princess I know lumbar punctures arent nice but it really is the only way to check for meningitis. They look for a couple of things in the CSF to check for infection and protein and glucose. I always think of it as bacteria need glucose to live and shed off protein so a low glucose and high protein will indicate meningitis. He is in the best place and I hope it goes OK today x
