Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
CountTo10 · 18/06/2008 22:08

Ok so I've been totally crap recently and am trying to catch up!!!

We've had a busy couple of weeks here. Dp was off work last week so we took advantage and did whipsnade zoo and littlehampton beach. Ds1 had a fab time but ds2 struggled in the heat bless him.

Ds1's behaviour is so up and down I just don't know what to do with him anymore. He's defo going through regression at the mo insisting that we do everything with him at all times which we just can;t do so then he just sits on the sofa and refuses to do anything. Anyone else having this at the mo?

Ds2 on the other hand is fab. Just about having 30oz a day and still sleeping through the night. Weighing in today at 15lb 3oz so picking up the pace a bit. Does make me laugh though cause ds2 was this weight at 10wks!!! Hv asked me if I was weaning and seemed shocked when I said no. I just said that he's showed no early signs and I'll start some time towards beginning mid July. Don't think she was too amused but whatever!!!

Caught a few posts re baby walkers etc. We used both with ds1 and he's got no problems. He didn;t walk huge amounts in his walker just liked to sit in it to play with his toys and eat snacks etc and moved about a bit once he got bigger. The bouncer however was superb, he loved it. I will defo use both again with ds2.

Weight loss is going okish. Very slow but at least its still coming off!! Need to do some more fatburning exercise I think to compliment the belly dancing which I'm sooo enjoying!!!

Now, got a bit concerned the other day cause gave up bf a few weeks ago and absolutely no sign of periods returning. Even did a pg test the other day as I got so paranoid - it was neg luckily as not sure how we'd cope right now if it wasn't (!!!) - but now wondering if they'll ever come back!!! Anyone else found it took a while??

Anyway, I will endeavour to catch up (again!!) over the next couple of days and try and return to more regular posting!! Hope everyone's ok x

Gill79 · 18/06/2008 23:08

think it can take ages for the periods to return Count - or not, just depending - like everything!

Can anyone get their baby to take spooned food without the tongue thrust reflex spitting it out again? not that I'm really that bothered about it just yet but was just wondering...

Following the youtube banana, we tried a spot of BLW.... results can be seen on my updated profile pics. It made our weekend . Let's hope the novelty of seeing my child smeared with mashed vegetable wears off or everyone's going to be subjected to photo documentaries of every meal.

DS now regularly waking 3 or so times a night for a feed (still bf) but am really a bit stuck as to what to do since he won't take spooned food and obviously feeding himself isn't going to deliver very much food into his mouth!

Can you remind us what you were doing on the telly Egg? Have you got a recording you could youtube?

Gill79 · 18/06/2008 23:18

Egg you may like to check the latest London meet-up thread again

gingermumi · 19/06/2008 11:42

egg missed you on TV - why where you there? We now have a baby walker - passed on by PIL - who said' we took this to the charity shop but they wouldn't take it, do you want it?'- not sure whether to be insulted or grateful! Typical of them! Still haven't found out why they left christening tho BIL siad it was because dh gave him some co-codamol for his headache and his mother thought it was tant amount to drug dealing beacuse they had been given on prescrpition- she's a bloody nurse FFS - you can buy them over the counter! Anyway ds seems to like it but only for a short time. He hasn't worked out how to move it yet. AS i said before, had one for dds and it was ok, I think it's important to make sure you don't use it to 'baby sit' your lo and you need to to keep an eye on what they do, but then you should be doing that anyway! Would love to rant on about PIL but i need to check on dd2 and her homework!

Egg · 19/06/2008 11:53

I love a good inlaws rant...

Ginger are you in the meridien area (for tv), that's the one I was filmed for. It wasn't on last night after all, will apparently be on Friday. It is a feature about doulas, and mine was taking part so they filmed me looking like a muppet trying to hold 2 squirming babies on my knee. If it is not too embarrassing I will try to find it afterwards and link to it on internet.

Had a cack day yesterday which involved me getting hit by DS1 and (even worse) me hitting him (not hard, but I hated myself, I was just so angry, after he had thrown a bicycle pump at me and hurt the hell out of me). He was very tired, having woken up by 6am every day this week and waking in the night a few times, but he went back to bed at 11am and was a changed man after that.

My dad is coming for the night and is arriving soon so had better go and hoover before he arrives.

Hope everyone is ok. Gill DS1 loved broccoli best as a finger food, I have lots of pics of him covered in it, I never tire of looking at them . Have looked at and posted on the meet up thread too .

WHERE IS BEANY?

Egg · 19/06/2008 11:54

FOrgot to say, my two new highchairs arrived today - HURRAH!

And I can't find out door bouncer . It must have been one of the many many things that was ruined by damp in our old garage.

gingermumi · 19/06/2008 11:57

Hi Egg, yeas am in Meridian area so will try to look out for you on friday!! BTW don't be too hard on yourself about ds - you're only human and so is he! It would be a problem only i guess, if you didn't feel bad about it!

rozzyraspberry · 19/06/2008 13:42

Count - I'm shocked that your hv is trying to advise you to wean early when your lo is so obviously happy on his milk!! Ds1 is very high maintenance - wants you to play with him all the time rather than play on his own. Luckily he's old enough to be more understanding about the fact that I can't always do that. We've had a few really bad days with the older 2. Ds1 has always been really boisterous/wild but had calmed down a lot lately. However, he's easily led and as ds2 has become much wilder lately the pair of them have been almost uncontrollable - particularly when they're tired. Today I've introduced a 'token' game where they can win tokens through good behaviour which they can use to buy treats - cbeebies, afternoon snack etc. So far so good but it's only 2pm!

We gave our door bouncer to my sil when she had her first baby. I don't like to ask for it back as she now has another lo who is 8mo. I don't think they could use it in their house though as they live abroad and the door frames were too wide so I might get dh to ask pil if they have it at their house.

Gill I think that losing their tongue thrust reflex is one of the signs they're ready for weaning as it's obviously then easier to get them to take solids from a spoon. I don't think there's much you can do regarding the night waking if he won't take much solids at the moment - just hope it gets better for you soon. DS3 still gets up at 10, 1 and 4. Generally it's not too bad but ds2 has started appearing at my bedside a few times a night - hopefully that'll pass soon because I am particularly knackered today!

Egg - I would love to see your tv debut if you can get a link to it. We built up our new highchair last week - was very exciting. I posted the other day wondering where beany is - not sure if she was going away anywhere? I have snapped with my lo's sometimes too when they're being particularly bad and given them a little tap and always hate myself afterwards. I really try not to do it though because (selfishly) I worry that now they're older they'll tell someone that mummy hit them and I'll have social services at my door!

Gill79 · 19/06/2008 20:04

ooh Egg we're staying with my parents in Newbury tomorrow night so may yet catch you on the news!
Don't worry about your moment with DS1, I bet we all got smacked from time to time when we were little (I certainly did and DID ME NO HARM )

Well we are off to Devon for the weekend for a wedding - and we're camping with DS for the first time wish us luck. Juggling camping, dressing up for wedding and DS will be quite a challenge I think!

sarahmikeharryandrosie · 19/06/2008 21:25

HAVE A LOVELY WEEKEND GILL- hope all goes smoothly for you xxxx

Hi everyone, hope all is well we are good her nothong out of the ordinary going on- but wanted to say HI!!

OP posts:
leesmum · 20/06/2008 13:21

Where is everyone?

Gill have a great time camping, we used to go all the time as kids, my all time fave place is Perranporth in Cornwall, the beach is beautiful and we always had nice weather. Are you in a tent or caravan?

Hi Sarah good to hear your lot ok xx

Rozzy my Ds1 is also going through a phase of getting up in the night its so frustrating especially when Ds2 is sleeping through! We used to take him back to his room and tuck him in but i think that was encouraging him to do it more, so as of last night we just ignored him and he went back straight away

Hi Ginger how is Toby doing?

Ds2 will be 22weeks tomorrow and for the last 2 nights he has rolled over and slept on his front, in fact he seemed more content like this, but should i be turning him back over? What do you lot think? he can easily lift his head and have a look around and can now roll both ways, i'm not sure what to do. And i got him weighed on wed he's now 16lb not bad for 6lb 12oz born.(he's gonna be a scoffer i think)

Egg is it tonight you're on telly, you'll have to get a link so we can all have a nosey! Is DD still doing ok on solids? is she happier and more content? And don't worry about hitting DS1, i remember giving Ds1 a slap on the back of his hand because he kept touching the oven, i felt really guilty afterwards ...but he never did it again.

Count i'm having no sign that periods are about to return but i had the implant fitted yesterday and the nurse said you might not get any with it that would be nice!

Sally have things improved with you and DH, hope so xx

rozzyraspberry · 20/06/2008 13:55

Leesmum - I suspect that if you rolled ds2 back onto his back he would just roll back onto his tummy again - he obviously likes lying that way! ds2 got up for a 'cuddle' twice last night - and ds3 was up at 10, 1, 3 then 5.40! God I'm tired. Kids are being pretty good though which is lucky as I don't think I have a very long fuse today!

Gill have a lovely weekend. I think we might have some camping holidays in the future since ds1 is starting school and most places are way too expensive for us in the school holidays! I'm sure they would love it though (although I do like my home comforts).

My mum and dad are having ds1 and ds2 tomorrow night as dh is doing a 68 mile charity cycle run tomorrow and we're going to a friends afterwards. So that'll be a break of sorts.

Egg · 20/06/2008 15:13

Hello everyone. Sarah nice to see you was wondering how you were as you had not posted for a few days.

All ok here. My dad stayed last night but he has just left to head home.

Leesmum my DS1 started sleeping on his tummy at about 6 months (so a bit later) but we didn't bother trying to turn him as he was completely happy like that and after a few days we would put him in his cot on his back and he would roll over before we had even left the room and be practically asleep.

I think one of my DTs was switched at birth . Not only do they look so different but they act so different. DS2 is so laidback and easygoing, he sleeps, he eats, he chats and smiles, he falls asleep again. DD wails, she shouts, she doesn't sleep much in the day, she is half the size etc, and she thinks she is so great . She gives everyone these looks as though to say "look at me, I know I am high maintenance and I love it, because I'm worth it".

Yes tonight is my tv debut. We have apparently not been cut after all. I will hopefully be able to get a link to it afterwards but not sure. It could be very embarrassing anyway, I was hot and sweaty after racing round with a hoover, and my strap on my top kept falling down so my bra is prob on display .

Count my period took about 3 months to return after my final breastfeed with DS1.

Rozzy, good luck to your DH tomorrow! What charity is he cycling for [nosey emoticon].

Egg · 20/06/2008 16:43

Oh Sarah, I remember your saying your DS is a big Fireman Sam fan and that he has the helicopter with Tom etc (my DS1 has this now too...). Anyway, DS1 keeps making me watch the DVD over and over and there is one episode where a squirrel runs rampage and Elvis shouts, in his lovely Welsh accent, "get out you bushy tailed menace" and my DS1 is in hysterics every time, and now he is making me say it over and over and over as it makes him giggle so much. My neighbours must think I am a complete fruitloop as the louder i say it the more he laughs .

Anyway, just wanted to share.

DD just awake, so time to ram some pea, broccoli and pear [yum] into her!

mitfordsisters · 20/06/2008 19:37

Gosh, I was so engrossed in mumsnet that I hadn't noticed ds is quiet. Lately bedtimes have been up and down to say the least, so scuse me whilst I count my lucky stars...

gingermumi, know just what you mean about your pils leaving Toby's christening. My brother and his dp left at the start of my wedding recption and were supposed to be at top table, doing toasts etc. It's bad form really I think - I didn't see why they couldn't just grin and bear it for a for hours - oh well.

Leesmum - would you recommend implant?

Egg, how was the tv debut - link please.

Rozzy - hope you have a quiet night tonight.

My news is I went out last night, without ds. It was only to a pub with a friend to see some bands, but I had some beer and even cycled there, and felt very carefree. I'm also going to the comedy store on Sunday night - I have dh over a barrel due to his excessive consumption of Euro 2008.

sarahmikeharryandrosie · 20/06/2008 22:14

Egg- i cannot believe you DS is big on firmam sam- Harry still is- it drives me insane- he goes round with the cord to my dressing gown putting out fires!!! the other day i had to hold the thing closed as i answered the door to postman, as harry refused to give it back!!!!lol He is funny!

Oh watch the phone- WE have had a couple of calls back from switch board as a child had told them fire and hung up swse now keep our cordless hand sets child locked!!

Look foward to your link egg-

Hey hey i am out on a my closest friends hen night tomorrow- pink strech hummer, champagne, greek meal and cocktails- what more does a girl and her friends need- look out birmingham !!!!!!!

OP posts:
leesmum · 21/06/2008 09:32

Oh Sarah your night out sounds great, i love hen nights, they are always a good laugh, enjoy yourself x

Mitford i could't feel the implant being put in but my arm's a bit bruised and tender now, Ds1 keeps wanting to kiss it better! Sarah has had hers in for a while so she might be better at filling you in more. But if it works and i don't get any side effects it'll be great and it would be nice to have no periods at all but some women still bleed a bit. It sounds like you had a goo night out as well, beer AND cycling wow i'm impressed

Egg what was you being interviewed for? lol at your daughter thinking she it great, she will be running rings round the lot of you in a few years.

Rozzy hope your Dh's bike ride goes ok today and you get nice weather for it. its just started raining here

rozzyraspberry · 21/06/2008 11:17

Egg the charity is LEPRA - treating leprosy mainly in Asia and Africa. Leesmum - weather is ok here so far - last year they cycled into freezing driving rains so looks like it should be better this year!!

I keep meaning to see about getting a coil fitted but never seem to get round to it!!

Egg - how was the tv appearance?

There was a fire engine visiting at ds1 and ds2s nursery this week. They even got to use the hose! They are a bit blase about it though as dh is a fireman so they've been to the fire station lots of times. They did used to want to be firemen like their daddy but now want to be racing drivers. Ds1 says he won't be able to come and visit me as he'll be racing his car in Glasgow(???!) but I can come and watch him!

Ds3 was stinky every time he was up last night - I can just about cope with getting up to feed him but could do without the messy nappies!!

sarahmikeharryandrosie · 21/06/2008 13:06

Hi, everyone

leesmum and mitford- yep i have the implant and all is well however i bleed every 3 weeks for 5days!!!! not impressed- i miss being pregnant for that reason !!!!- no side effects though and i dont even know its there!!!!

Good luck with hubby's cycle today Rozzy- hope all goes well and they don't get too wet!!!

Ooohh i have nipped into town this morning - leaving DH with both DC's and had a bit of a wander!!! bought a new top for tonight from MK1 at the bargain price of £5- i was impressed and even feel fab in it!!!! DH raised an eyebrow when i put it on too- i had to get it off quick- (down boy)its the middle of the day!!! (as much as it was lovely shopping without the DC's i had to carry the bags- the pram does come in so handy!!!

OP posts:
sallyforth · 21/06/2008 14:19

Bonjour all

well I went to visit my very pregnant friend for a couple of days and on my return DH was v nice and said he missed us... since then no arguments (altho have been back not quite 24hrs so we shall see!)

alkar - arent bf babies supposed to gain weight less rapidly from 4mo. I think weekly weighing can cause more stress than they are worth. is he still weeing pooing etc? maybe you could try offering the breast more often, eg in the evening just before you go to bed? can you take a "nursing vacation" where you plan to do nothing except watch dvd's, sleep and feed LO on demand?

egg - how cool re being on tv...

sarah - lol at crank phone calls to fire stn! at least they know what to do if there really is a fire!! hope you have a good night out.

there was a murder down the road from us the night before last it sounds like the police think it was domestic violence so am still going to go out for my walks with LO

rozzyraspberry · 21/06/2008 14:23

Have a great time Sarah - have a drink (or 2) for me!!!

sarahmikeharryandrosie · 21/06/2008 14:30

i sure will have plenty to drink its pay back for the stag do a couple of weeks back- dh will suffer!!!(he got in at 3am- threw up and went to bed- slept til 2-30 pm and spent the rest of the day feeling sorry for himself!!!lol

I was not a happy bunny!!!!!!

OMG Sally- what a thing to happen on your doorstep it must be terrible xxx

OP posts:
cosima · 21/06/2008 14:44

hi everybody, been ages I know. soz. All this talk of weaning is quite reassuring as I was just thinking about it myself. ds still feeding 3 -4 times a night and I am only getting about two hours sleep. I thought mns were anti weaning before 6 months but if you lot are doing it then thats good enough for me.

Just keep trying to pluck up the courage to switch to real nappies, have got them all but am a housework slattwern as it is.

What were you doing on the news egg?

cosima · 21/06/2008 14:50

ah, just read about your tv thing.
good luck for the bike ride mr rozzy

Egg · 21/06/2008 15:15

Rozzy is married to a fireman .

Have a great night out Sarah, pics please of you in your lovely new top.

Am off to see if I can find a link to tv. Was quite good but very short. Wish DS1 had been in it too, he was very excited and shouting "mummy mummy mummy mummy mummy" whilst pointing at the tv.

Sarah, LOL at the dressing gown cord! DS1 has not started pretending to be a fireman (yet), he is still on the Bob the Builder fixing things stage, despite not enjoying actually watching BTB.
