Sally glad your DH is behaving again, hope it continues. at the murder though!!!!!!!!!!!

Cosima, I don't think I could face changing to washable nappies now, despite the fact that we have double the amount of "permitted" rubbish for each collection because of all the nappies, but DD poos so blooming often and our washing machine runs all day anyway...

tyaca · 21/06/2008 23:56

hello all. hope everyone's having a nice weekend. pls excuse any typos - should be heading bedwards, but dh watching footie so thought i'd catch up.

counto10, cosima and mitfords, v nice to hear from you. count, glad bellydancing is going well. know what you mean re frustrating waiting for periods to return. mine have now come back but was impatient for a while. god knows why, its such a hassle . did a bit of googling and apparently 80% of people have periods 6 months after childbirth, but 12months not considered abnormal.

cosima big hello. i too am considering switching to cloth once we move in 3 wks and have laundry room and garden. dh less keen. however, my lovely fab mum bought us insane amount of nappies before dd born and have only just run out. now the weekly tesco shop is coming in that bit extra, hoping he'll let me at least give it a go. btw - there is a poss london meet up next week?? will find link.)

gill, am in awe at your camping trip. truly humbled by your hardness. hope it all goes/went well.

rozzy - fireman, huh ??? did you ever read that mn thread about how useful your dh's job was at home? hopefully firefighting rarely practiced chez raspberry, but if i were you i'd've been shouting dh's job from cyber rooftops... but then i'm v shallow!

bonjour back at you sally! murder round the corner is truly frightening. even here in south london, the murders are at least a tube stop away...

egg - how are the high chairs going? second everyone's comments re the smack. i reckon if dd leaves home at 18 and that;s all she's got against me, i'm doing ok.

sarah - how was hen do? god, i would love to go out on a proper piss up. sad fact is that i have nothing to say to anyone anymore ... even my own baby talk bores me!

leesmum - who's your fave to win footie? dh is saying italy or russia. i have been made to watch the russia/holland game twice tonight. once live and once highlights/analysis. you think my patter bores dh? . between the live/analysis coverage we watched.... amir khan box

leesmum · 22/06/2008 07:38

Sarah how's your head this morning??? i hope you had a great time.

Rozzy how did hubby get on? did you have to give him a special rub down after he'd finished

Egg i'm with you re washable nappies. i have no desire at all to increase my washing intake, and the amount of time my washer would be on would do nothing for my carbon footprint anyway.

Tyaca how long is it till you move? I would like Italy to win but i think Spain might turn them over After the way Turkey have played they Deserve to win it but in the end you can't rule the Germans out so we'll see. We also stayed up to watch Amir fight, Michael Gomez lives near us and is such a little gobshite that i wanted amir to reduce him to a pulp Tyaca is sounds like you are getting into the football, or do you have no choice? Anyway Wimbledon starts tomorrow and next month its the Olympics, now i'm excited

rozzyraspberry · 22/06/2008 13:12

Hi all.

Dh's cycle went well yesterday - they were really lucky with the weather - the heavens opened not long after they finished and its been raining pretty much ever since. We went for some drinks and nibbles in St Andrews afterwards which was quite nice although ds3 is going through a bit of a 'strange' phase. We sat down and everyone was looking at him and talking to him. He looked round everyone then the lip went out and he started screaming the place down. He wouldn't settle so I fed him - he usually feeds really quickly now but would not relinquish my nipple - I think he was hiding. Anyway I was really pleased that I thought I'd got him latched on really discreetly and no-one would even know I was feeding him - until he started making very loud slurp slurp noises that he never usually makes to much amusement.

DS1 and ds2 are at mum and dads at the moment so we got a little longer in bed this morning which was nice. They're due back imminently though.

Tyaca - yes luckily dh has not had to practice firefighting at home but he is (obviously) a lot more fire safety aware than me. He's forever following me around closing doors and switching off switches before we go out/go to bed. We were together for 3 years before he joined the fire brigade - the best thing about it is the shifts are great for spending time with the kids and childcare as half of his shifts are overnight.

Sarah - how are you feeling today?

Ds3 is going through another few days of frequent dirty nappies! He keeps doing it during the night too which is a bit of a pita.

Better go for now before my big boys come home

sallyforth · 22/06/2008 14:33

The murder is unusual for this area. The local paper has court reports and it's usually things like "18 year old boy got drunk and thought it would be a good idea to drive home", "man vandalised his girlfriend's car after she chucked him out", etc. They will have a field day with this one!
It doesn't quite seem real to me - I don't know either the victim or the accused. I think in general we tend to shut our eyes to stuff going on that we don't want to see. woah that's a bit Thought for the Day-ish....

cosima - am in same situation as you re: real nappies and being housework slattern!

rozzy- ds is going thru a bit of a funny phase as well. v distractible, wants to sleep all the time, and then only feed when HE wants to.. always the most inconvenient times lol. think this is the time when they are v responsive to stimulation and often it all gets a bit too much!!

tyaca - is that 80% of people who are bf or 80% of non-bf people? I'd heard that even if you were bf, the periods do often tend to come back pretty soon after the baby starts sleeping through.

sarah - hope you had a great time at the hen do.

lljkk · 22/06/2008 17:22

Hi all another couple milestones to mention, here. Took DS4 swimming for first time, he did alright, although he didn't like the floating ring much, so I ended up holding him most of the time. He loved splashing he didn't like the taste of the pool water much (NUMPTY MUMMY alert 1).

And (NUMPTY MUMMY alert 2) baby rolled off the bed yesterday .

Just spent most this pretty sunny lovely afternoon watching a movie with DH, because I'm always too tired in the evenings to stay up past 8pm!!

BFN, hope all are well.

sarahmikeharryandrosie · 22/06/2008 20:07

OMG Sarah - to be a young thing again!! I would probably need my stomach pumped if I drank as much as that and I would definitely be feeling a tad worse for wear the next day!! (rozzy toddles off on her zimmer frame reminising about student days when a bottle of wine was the carryout BEFORE you went out)

sarahmikeharryandrosie · 22/06/2008 20:47

Totally agree rozzy, I get such bad hangovers these days quite like that I'm still bf then I can wake up in the morning without a banging head. I've got 8 years on you Sarah, gald you had a good night.

Love the idea of a nursing vacation Sally, all the work on the house is pretty much finished so that is a possibility.

Had a family party for my grandmas 80th today. DS was getting a bit upset at one stage and pointed at me, he stopped crying when I gave him a cuddle. He changes so much each day they really are little treasures.

bovrilsarnies · 22/06/2008 23:46

Hello ladies - long time no post!! (I know... I always seem to start my messages that way still don't have a P.C of my own, but can keep lurking during the day via the Wii console.

This thread moves Soooo fast it's incredible.

My LO is still not sleeping through the night and I reckon it's not gonna happen EVER! well at least not until she is eating propper full on meals to keep her full up!

No signs that she's ready for weaning yet tho'. Breast milk still seems to be keeping her happy every 2 or 3 or 4 hours even tho' she is a mighty 18lbs (8kg) at the tender age of 17 weeks.

Sarah - totally jealous of your night out! Deffo not binge drinking - just making up for lost time tee hee.

Egg - missed you on the news Friday - any luck with a link?

Sally - there's been a MURDER!!!?

Tyaca & Cosima - I have switched to cloth nappies this week. I have been meaning to for AGES coz I thought I would just use disposables when "out and about" - but I didn't stick to it and just kept on buying Pampers on auto pilot whenever we got low and was using them all the time - So I had to go cold turkey and run out of disposables so that I would have NO CHOICE but to switch to cloth nappies full time!

It has been okay so far - although I don't have enough of them so consequently the washing machine has been on every day this week! (My sister gave me loads of Tots Bots size 1 nappies when I was PG, but LO has grown out of them already! So I only have 10 x size 2 fluffles nappies) however - the clothes washing pile has gone down dramatically - as I haven't had a single "leak" using the cloth nappies - and Pampers seemed to leak all the bloomin' time!

Anyone have advice on which teething gel to use? I think if I buy Bonjella
I will just eat the lot myself as I Lurve the taste of that stuff!! is that wrong?

Well, better get myself to bed. hopefully will be able to post again soon! xxx

sarahmikeharryandrosie · 23/06/2008 08:31

Hi Bovril, Thanks for that- yep defo making up for lost time i still cannot belive i had no hangeover0 The bride to be and maid of honour were very ill !!!!!OMG

jst time to pop in and ay hello! Saw egg on TV- you look lovely Egg! So calm and not a bra strap in sight! DTs are lovely, my mum watched it too, she said (in true grannie fashion) 'they're a good size' ('cos i told her they were early!). Well done on your debut!

Toby doing fine leesmum, he's soooo lovely and scrummy i could eat him!! Sarah am v impressed at night out! I'd be in casualty if i drank that much - it's been that long since i've had a decent drink!

It was dhs bday at weekend and guess what?
PIL tried to put card through door the day before without us seeing them, FIL even parked down the road behind a hedge! I saw them and dh called out of window and his mum just ran off and got in car. When dh spoke to them she just said that she had been at work all day and wanted to get home. Fair enough but it is her son's birthday and she could have just said hello. It makes dh very sad. Did ask BIL about christening again and he said they did leave becaue dh gave him the headache pills, a complete over-reaction and so embarassing. i have now also found out that when they arrived at the church my parents waved to them and said hello and they turned away, i just dont understand them.

I have been with dh nearly 10 years and have only been for a meal at their house a couple of times and even then MIL went and sat in another room and said she's eat later. All we get is that family is so important but it seems to mean 'can we throw money at something' or 'we want you to do something for us'. we have even had 'I carried you for 9 months, now you owe me' (obviously to dh!). They make me so angry .

Rant over, have loads to do!!

Have a good day all.

sarahmikeharryandrosie · 23/06/2008 11:26

oh Ginger- that must be upsetting for both you and you DH- can't be much fun for you daughters either- people really can be strange xxx

I hope you DH had a fab bday anyway, xxxx

OP posts:
tyaca · 23/06/2008 12:05

mornin' all. i have had a FLY-style morning and only just sat down. v out of character for me. spent the weekend DIY'ing (URRRRGGHHHHH) to get flat ready to rent.... so maybe the momentum had carried over we have realised we only have two more weekends before we adertise for tennants.

sally, i remember that the figures i saw re periods didnt state bf or not, cause i wondered too. re knowing your neighbours (but completely OT), there's a fab Cutting Edge doc on Channel 4 On Demand called My Street. A film maker got to know everyone on her street - v v moving and would recommend everyone take a look if they --achem!- have a free hour.

sarah, so jealous of your night out. tho' my liver might say otherwise . your facebook link didnt work... go on... put the pics on your MN profile...

hi lljkk, nice to hear from you and wd on swimming. love the fact you use the word numpty... my dh has coined a new phrase to describe me at my dopiest "Mumpty"

leesmum, you're sports bonkers! will watch the athletics at olympics but thats it. finally committed to footie yesterday and watched italy game. dh had them in work sweepstake and had promised me twos on the £100 first prize. see what happens? i committ and care and lose and feel rubbish.

bovril hello nice to hear from you. what nappies are you using?

ginger, your PIL sound plain bonkers! that carried you for 9 months comments is fantastic. are they perhaps not just secret masters of comedy?

ok - got to get my ass into gear. taking dd to doctors re her reflux which is getting worse daily. poor love now has a new noise to her repetoire - a painful squeal. feel awful cause have taken to keeping her in a chair almost all the time cause going on her back seems to make it worse. bring on the gaviscon!

Egg · 23/06/2008 14:09

Hello all, also been having a "FLY" morning, got my cleaning done, unblocked the washing machine , had to empty and semi defrost the freezer as DH left it ajar all night , then went into town and did a bit of dull shopping and a bit of nice shopping (dresses for meeeeeeee, a few bits for DCs).

Ginger am at your Inlaws. They sound bordering on ridiculous, as well as plain nasty. Were they always off with DH, or is it since you got together with him (not blaming you I hasten to add, but do they have something against you or something??). Sounds like your own mum is lovely though, saying such nice things about my babies! They were looking very cute that day [proud]. Still no link to it, they do put some of the features on the website but doesn't seem to be on .

Egg · 23/06/2008 14:10

Sarah looks like your night out was EXCELLENT! I am crap after two glasses of wine (used to go and drink 10 pints without any probs...).

tyaca · 23/06/2008 14:33

egg - 10pints! go on make my day and tell me it was Stella you used to drink. know what you mean re two glasses of wine, used to have no problem with a bottle, now after even one glass i'm half asleep and knocking back loads of water. how did i not notice it was so dehydrating before?

i am now armed with infant gaviscon. does anyone know if it works? princessllama - cant remember if your reflux expertise is born soley of being a mum, or also your job???

Egg · 23/06/2008 14:39

I used to drink 10 pints of GUINNESS with no probs at all . Mmmmmmmmmmm.

We used infant gaviscon briefly with DS1 when he had suspected reflux but it made no difference as it clearly wasn't reflux anyway, he just loved to puke! Be warned, it thickens the mink substantially so you need to use a different teat, preferably the one with the slit I think instead of just a hole, or else poor Esther will be sucking away and getting nothing out.

OK, so I found a link to ME ON TV. I hope it works. Me and DTs are not in it til after 2 mins into it. It is playing a bit funnily on my pc (funny colours etc) so hope it works ok for you.

my tv debut.

tyaca · 23/06/2008 15:00

tv link- hurrah! your dt's are gorgeous egg and your dd looks dead chunky. lol at your comment about adult company - wot? we werent enough ?? tho' at the first time mum with the 45min labour. maybe if i get me a doula next time, they cam scrape 13hrs off my time ....

Egg · 23/06/2008 15:03

I did say LOADS more but they cut me down . They didn't even mention that I had a boy under 2 when I had twins, hence the doula...

DD indeed does look chunky. She has never been really skinny, just small. She is cuter because of her petiteness though, which is lucky as without her I would be getting a full night's sleep every night. She looks huuuge on camera though [proud].

sallyforth · 23/06/2008 16:30

oh egg your DTs are adorable! (I can't decide which one is cuter!) and you look great too!

cosima · 23/06/2008 16:46

egg your tv thing was fab! little cuties all three of you.

bovril - i've got the size 2 fluffles too, wishing i'd got something a bit more trim as i feel that i will swamp him and make him immobile.

rozzy - i feel for you being married to a fireman, always working nights, and worrying about him i bet.

i have had to kick my dh out to the spare room permanently cos he comes in too late and then restless sleeper and keeps us all awake, unfortunately ds takes after him and i am knackered. I might let him in just on saturday nights like a proper 50's housewife

countto10 bellydancing? sounds fab, and i've certainly got the belly for it
