Egg · 14/06/2008 15:59

Hello all . Missed you.....

Have been gadding about on MN all day in active convos and realised I had not even come and posted on here. I caught up on everything yesterday (well I tried to) but didn't have time to post.

Gill I love the vids of Malcolm. He is so gorgeous. Do you think he would like to date my DD? She is a pain but quite cute...

Holiday was lovely once we worked out it is impossible to go swimming with a 2-year old (who will not entertain the idea of any floatation aid) and two babies. We had great weather and went for dinner three nights and had babysitters for the DC. Sad to be home now though, esp once DH goes back to work. DS1 and DH spent so much time together and DS1 has got a bit obsessed with his daddy so I think he will be distraught on Monday morning.

Well I was determined to wait until 6 months but yesterday at 5 months and 3 days I decided to offer DS2 some solids. Bought loads of veg (butternut squash, carrots, sweet pots etc) but ended up opening a little sachet from Ella's Kitchen (or something similar) which was carrot, apple and parsnip. DS2 was horrified that I even thought of it. Then DD came down so I thought I would see what she thought and she loved it. She was smacking her lips and grinning and smiling and craning her neck forward for more . She had a little bowlful and I will try her again tonight. Her sleeping has been atrocious (now wakes usually between 1-2am for a feed despite the fact she used to make it to 5am, and she still has a feed at 10/10:30pm too), so am praying it makes a little difference.

Sorry I am not even attempting to comment on all the topics that have been discussed on here, my post would be soooooo long and you would all fall asleep. I must say though I am gutted to miss the Big Babies prog. DD is prob still only about 12lbs so smaller than most of the newborns on there I imagine.

gingermumi · 14/06/2008 16:08

Gill lol at comb over! Toby has one too (someone at baby group commented on it - i waanted to say rude things but i didn't!). I really want to cut it but am hoping his hair will grow back and fill it in (IYSWIM).

LO slpt through last night (hasn't done so for weeks) and i feel absolutely crap today, may be i'd got used to sleep deprivation!

Hope you all have a fun father's day tomorrow! We're visiting in laws (can't wait) and my parents, then hme fo bbq, am hoping dd1 will come home from uni for it.

Egg · 14/06/2008 16:12

Ginger - I just remembered I had a DREAM about you and your DDs whilst on hols. Sorry I am not a stalker or anything. I can't remember anything about it except that you and your DDs were there (not sure about your DS...) and we were all out for the day!

DD has crap hair. SHe has lost most of it, and it is all straggly.

DS2 has a fabulous, glossy, thick blonde section at the front and then is bald at the back!

I just ate three chocolate brownie slices, a galaxy ripple and two percy pig biscuits. I already ate a chocolate dinosaur and 5 M&S swiss chocs earlier . I think my period is due...

gingermumi · 14/06/2008 16:26

LOL! Hope we had a nice day! I had a dream last night that dh had a job interview (which he does, arrived in morning post) but the interview was in our living room and the interviewers were naked and so was dh, i was there, scrubbibg orange juice out of the carpet! I think i prefer your dream tbh!

Have added some new photos

leesmum · 15/06/2008 08:51

Ginger the photo's are lovely, don't you make beautiful children? I hope you get some sunshine for your BBQ.

Egg it sounds like you had a nice time, i'm guessing you won't be weighing yourself tomorrow!

Sarah butternut squash and carrot sounds yum, Ds1 used to like sweet potato, i seem to have forgotten all the nice things i used to make for him, when he was a bit older he loved Fishy mash and mushy peas (mash mixed with tuna and peas) it looked horrible but he loved it!

Have a nice Fathers Day everyone x

I'm missing my dad today

rozzyraspberry · 15/06/2008 09:01

Leesmum - I'm thinking of you today. Must be hard - but I'm sure he would have been so proud of you and your lovely boysxx. How's ds2 doing with the formula? Is he going for longer between feeds?

My boys still love sweet potatoes. I chop them into chip shapes brush with a little oil and bake. I also remember a recipe for butternut squash and pear which they loved but I thought was disgusting! Oh it's all coming rushing back!!!

Glad you enjoyed your holidays egg. Is your dd still doing well with the bottles? My ds still gets up at around 10, 1 and 4 - I've resigned myself to the fact that he won't sleep through until he gets solids - even then I suppose he might not (although once I know he's getting plenty of solids in the day I might get a bit tougher during the night).

Enjoy your bbq Ginger.

Enjoy your sunday everyone.

leesmum · 15/06/2008 09:27

Hi rozzy DS2 still only goes about 2-3 hours between feeds and has 7oz's each time but he now sleeps from 7.30 till 5.30 without waking Hopefully when we start on solids in a few weeks the milk feeds will stretch out a bit

What are you doing today?

You'll have to let me have your recipie for b squash and pear, and if anyone else has any unusuall recipies pass them on.

Egg · 15/06/2008 11:21

Oh leesmum. I forgot how hard today must be for you . Have been thinking of OJ and others who have lost their DC's dad, but not of those who have lost their own dads. Hope you are ok.

Well DD is still no overly keen on her milk. Rarely has more than 5oz (140ml) per feed, and often a bit less. I have a feeling she will drink less now she has tasted something "better" as she had only 2oz at 7:30am and then 2oz at 10:30am. But then when I tried her with some sweet potato she ate quite a lot. She did have 5oz at 3am but only 3oz at 10pm last night so it is getting less again.

DS2 has four feeds a day at 6ish am, 10am, 2pm and 6pm and has approx 8 or 9oz at each feed. He is having no solids.

Rozzy I am with you. Have decided to carry on giving DD her night feeds, esp if she is not having enough milk in the day, and will see how she gets on with the solids. Just wish for example she could move the 5oz 3am feed and have it with the other 2oz she had at 7:30am. We did say we were going to get tough once back from hols and stick her in the travel cot in the spare room (never dare leave her crying at night as the DSs get woken), but will wait until she is at least 6 months.

alkar · 15/06/2008 13:22

Thinkking of you leesmum, hope today isn't too hard for you

Lovely pics ginger

We have the same door bouncer Gill, DS loves it too

Egg - DS loves the Ella's kitchen food. I have been buying them as we didn't have a kitchen but we do now so I'd better get cooking. I bought a recipe book but its still in the car!

DS has been waking up at 5.30 / 6am for over a week now. He just has a feed then goes back to sleep. He's been sleeping through since 10 weeks is it another growth spurt or does he need more solids. He's only having a few spoonfuls for lunch

tyaca · 15/06/2008 15:04

hiya all, hope it is at least a bit sunny wherever you everyone is. leesmum - hope you have a nice day with your ds's and dh.

egg, nice to have you back, always seems quiet without you . i missed the big babies prog but watched it online on the itv catch up thing. glad your dd enjoying her nosh - milk? pah!

all this weaning talk is making me impatient to start. dd still seems a long way off though cause cant sit up yet and only 11lb 5oz... does wight make much of a difference? i kind of assume that the bigger your baby is, the sooner you start but guess i may just have made that up in my head. dd spends her life trying to suck everything, so think she may enjoy her food. the other day i found her slid right down on one side on her chair, sucking away happily at the plastic clip on ths strap! i took a pic of it cause made me smile.

speaking of pics, your ds looks gorgeous ginger. always so nice to see photos.

rozzyraspberry · 15/06/2008 19:00

Leesmum - 7.30 to 5.30 is good going!! No wonder he's drinking so much during the day if he's going for such a long stretch at night. I'm very jealous - ds3 feeds 3 times between 7 and 7. The recipe for the butternut squash and pear is steam one squash for 12 minutes, add the pear, and steam for another 5 minutes, then puree. It's from the Annabel Karmel baby and toddler book.

Egg - looks like your dd is just not a huge milk fan! Can you hide some in her solids or would that just put her off the solids too?

Tyaca - I don't think baby size has anything to do with the baby being ready for solids - it's more about the maturity of the gut I think. I wouldn't rush it - once you've started on solids you realise how much easier it was when they were just drinking milk - especially if you start before they're ready - takes ages to feed them and they spit more out than they swallow

Hope everyone has had a lovely day.

sarahmikeharryandrosie · 15/06/2008 20:47

i love Annabel Karmels baby and toddler book- DS loved all the meals i made and DD seems to be loving food so far too-

It really is a fab book!!!!

Hope every one has had a good weekend we have had friends over for BBQ last nite and today my parents and my Grandad and lady friend!!! for roadt beef and all the trimmings- was delish!!!

However i have worked far to hard all weekend, so doing nothing tommorow except reading my book!!!!! lol

Hope all well,

I've added more photos if anyone wants a look

Haylstones · 15/06/2008 21:03

THis thread moves so fast!
Ds is very poorly today. He's got a horrible case of conjunctivitis, runny nose, cold and hacking cough. cOmbine it with teething and aargh! He's asleep now after crying most of the day so hopefully he'll be better tomorrow.
Gingermumi, it was indeed Ruda we stayed at. It was so lovely I can't express my emotions enough [sob at having to come home]. Is that where you're going? If that's where you're going say hello to Mean Dean and magic Dave from my dd- she got to know them pretty well and they would talk to her on the dancefloor via the DJ box
I'm going to have a quick scan through the rest of the posts now...

mitfordsisters · 15/06/2008 21:31

Thanks for the link to the baby led weaning site Gill - i am all for a simple life without too much puree on the walls. And the clips of Malcolm are great - he is so sweet eating his banana, I nearly cried.

I nearly blubbed about David Davis resigning as well, and was in floods yesterday when father in law rang and afterwards didn't like to think of him being on his own. Pathetic - wish I was hard as nails.

Talking of hair, ds has got a lovely short back and sides, and his bald patch is growing over nicely. He's really vocal at the moment - gurgling, shouting and making noises like a crow.

Love the pics Gingermumi.

rozzyraspberry · 16/06/2008 08:35

Hi all!

Had a look at all your photos/videos last night - what a lot of gorgeous babies we have. Reminds me that we've been really crap at taking photos and video clips this time so must remember to take more.

Well I've lost 3lbs this week. I've been a bit fed up because I treated myself to a few new tops which I really like until I sit down and the spare tire emerges! So I've been much better this week and even managed to run 7.5miles on my treadmill last night.

Mitford - my lo is getting noisier too which is really cute except for the fact that he was shouting in his cot from 5.30 this morning.

Egg · 16/06/2008 09:17

Morning all. Just checking in before I start my Monday morning chores. Not dared weigh myself today .

Tyaca my DD can only be about 12lbs max I think and DS2 is about 16lbs plus, but it is DD who is slurping down the solids and DS2 who couldn't care less. Neither can sit up (I feed in bouncy chair) although DS2 is much closer to sitting than DD. I never thought I would start her before 6 months as she is small and was 3 weeks early, but tbh I am glad I did as she is a different baby, even after only 3 days of it! She seems so much happier and contented and is not pooing 5 times a day! She even seems to have upped her milk intake in the last 24 hours too.

However I do agree with Rozzy, hold off as long as you can til 6 months as it is a PITA, although so far it is such a pleasure to see her grinning that I don't mind. DS2 tried it again yesterday and was not as horrified, but definitely not that bothered.

Both my DS's wee-ed too much in the night and their nappies leaked, so DS2 was up at 5am and DS1 up at 6am shouting "I'm very wet".

Alkar I love the pics. My fave is the second one down. He has such a great look on his face. I must download some more. I was looking back at old vid clips of DS1 at 5 months old and he was way more advanced than the DTs. He could sit up on his own (albeit leaning forward a fair bit) for quite a long time, and was turning pages of a cloth book. DTs just mainly lie there fighting over the Hoopy Loopy Giraffe .

rozzyraspberry · 16/06/2008 10:51

Egg - that's great that your dd is so happy on her solids!! It's so much easier weaning them when they're keen on the idea! We weaned ds1 at 17 weeks as that was the advice at the time. In hindsight he so was not ready and it was a complete nightmare - baby rice everywhere and a very frustrated mummy!! Are your lo's at nursery today?

I've got 2 at nursery and one napping so instead of doing constructive stuff I'm on here

Egg · 16/06/2008 11:12

Yes mine are ALL at nursery .

I weaned DS1 at 5 months (it was only 2 years ago so advice was to wait until 6 months but HV, who I have a lot of respect for and talked sense on everything else, recommended trying him with some solids as his sleep was horrendous). DD started at 5 months and 3 days!

I have just had a big clearout of the DTs drawers, got a huge bag of stuff for the charity shop and am keeping the nicest things hoping to either sell them or pass them on if one of my close friends ever have babies!

Still tons to do though. Third load of washing to hang up, Tesco to visit, hoovering to be done, bathroom to be cleaned, spare bed to be made up ready for my dad later in the week etc.

So far have done two loads of washing. Emptied dishwasher, made DH's sandwiches for tomorrow, tidied sitting room / dining room and kind of cleaned the kitchen.

Looks like rain though, where will I put all my blardy washing?

mitfordsisters · 16/06/2008 11:57

Just read back on the thread, tyaca, and glad to see you found another Mitford - you really know these boards don't you? I only really go to relationships, style and beauty, and am I being unreasonable?

Egg, so glad your dd is getting on well with the solids. Re. the clothing, does that mean that you aren't going to have any more babies yourself .

I had an AF last week, which shocked me as I'm fully breastfeeding and thought this meant I would not ovulate. What an idiot - I could have conceived and then I would have 2 babies with only a year between them. DH said he wouldn't care if we had another one quickly, and I think of Jaysfinished who has a year between each of her 3. However, it has scared me into making a trip to the clinic for contraception.

The plants in our back yard are doing really well - especially some very good looking peas. The snails have eaten all my herb seedlings though.

mitfordsisters · 16/06/2008 12:01

ps Rozzy - I should be doing something 'useful' as well but mumsnetting is so absorbing! And well done on your weight loss this week - v impressed. I ate about 10 chocolate truffles in front of the footy last night so target weights are not even featuring right now.

Egg · 16/06/2008 12:06

NEVER NEVER NEVER any more babies. If we had more money, and thus a bigger house etc then maybe, but tbh having three is enough!

I did look at some of the little clothes very fondly though. Am keeping some for sentimentality. Esp some of the really weeny outfits the DTs wore.

Have now hoovered and got three bin bags of stuff for the charity shop. Off to Tesco now to be sure I am back in time for Neighbours!

Oh and all 5 of us went and sat in an s-max yesterday! All three DCs car seats fit along the middle row of seats, even with DS1s HUGE seat. Yay! Hopefully will be able to get one once DH has had a test drive.

Mitford, I think you should browse the conception section of MN! There are many many ladies on here who have got pregnant whilst fully breastfeeding .

gingermumi · 16/06/2008 12:22

Hope you're ok leesmum.

Alkar your ds is sooo cute, lovely pics too!

LOL hayls, yes we're going to ruda. Have been there lots 'cos we love it so much! We've camped and stayed in caravans (depending on finances!)at all times of year. It's a fab place with kids

bbq was washed out so we had food in living room - for some reason dh and dd2 decided to have row about what to watch on tv - i found it a bit stressful - i hate conflicts like that. Still, it's a nice day today

mitfordsisters · 16/06/2008 12:29

Not surprised that you are calling a halt Egg. I'm going to have a look at the conception board to scare myself.

Shame about the weather ginger - it would be nice if we could depend on it to be fine when planning events!

tyaca · 16/06/2008 14:58

afternoon all. hows tricks?

AF just came a-visiting me mitfords, was so glad cause it explained away some moments of nutsness. wd on the peas. thought they were quite hard to grow? also at risk from birds etc?? cannot wait til we have a garden. 4 weeks til we move and counting....
