New thread here ladies.

LOM - found the recipe HERE. Enjoy!!

Jet - glad i'm not the only one who's doing purees etc then! Phew, that put my mind at rest. I also re-blitzed the butternut and it now seems to be alot smoother than yesterday. It's funny how suddenly she's starting to not like loud noises. i can see blow drying my hair and hoovering will become a problem....

Dont feel guilty about not having the kids around! It's good to get some child free time. I dont have alot of that myself yet, but i think MIL will be looking after DD very soon so that i can at least get my housework done once a week in one foul swoop rather than stopping every 10 minutes because she's bored of playing with her current toy or doesn't want to be in her ring anymore etc.

Pouring with rain here atm. It's quite comforting actually, being inside while it's raining outside. I quite like the sound of the rain on the conservatory roof lol. Yes, i'm a freak!

OMG, i've put Ellie down for a nap in her cot today (she's usually on the sofa - bad mummy alert) and i cant believe how well she is sleeping!! This morning she went from 9-11 and currently she's been asleep since 1pm. On the sofa she used to just cat nap so obviously she was getting disturbed alot. Happy days! Hope this doesn't make a difference to her sleeping through the night now tho....

OP posts:
littleoldme · 31/05/2008 10:39

Hi - RG. Thanks for the recipe. Somehow I think that extra half stone I've gained is here to stay
Glad Ellie had some good sleep for you yesterday. Hope you had an equally good nig

YAY - I've just won a bidding war on e-bay. A one tog grobag is mine for 11.01. It nearly cost me much more - I forgot to put the decimal point in first time

Jet - Hope you house stays spic and span!

Sam - If ever you need to get stroppy with shops check out the Office of Fair trading website. They have your rights laid out really clearly. I always print out the relevant and take it with me. That way I've got some back up if I get flustered.

Greedy - I feel the same. I'm not that much heavier than before but It's all VERY flobby

jetgirl · 31/05/2008 15:40

Afternoon all

LOM - I would love it to stay so tidy but I don't think it will last. Still looks good at the mo though.

RG - Don't tell anyone but sometimes William sleeps on the sofa! Hope Ellie's still sleeping well. William had a great night last night, asleep by 7.30, woke up at 3am for a feed, then slept again till 7.30am. DH and I enjoyed a film last night, totally uninterrupted. We watched Die Hard 4 - brilliant, love a bit of Bruce Willis!!

It's a lovely day here today, we've been to the market, and DD is in and out of the house, she loves the garden but not the suncream!

DH and I are going out for dinner tonight with a couple of friends. It's a really nice restaurant, and tongith there is a Tom Jones impersonator!! Hoping he's decent, otherwise it could be a bit of a disappointing evening! Have a good weekend.

RGPargy · 31/05/2008 19:44

Glad i'm not the only one who was putting their LOs to sleep on the sofa. As mine is leather i figured that she couldn't really get too hot etc so it would be ok.

Today she's been napping in her cot again () and it made no difference to her sleeping at night either, thankfully! She has to be really tired to go off in the cot tho otherwise she does create a bit lol.

LOM - well done on the bidding war! That would have been one hell of an expensive sleep!!

Right, gonna put DD to bed. have a nice evening everyone.

OP posts:
littleoldme · 31/05/2008 20:20

RG - Yeah I know, TBH I think I'd pay that for to him to sleep through the night just once.

RGPargy · 31/05/2008 22:48

Bless him, is he still waking up then?

OP posts:
littleoldme · 01/06/2008 10:16

He's not that bad at all really. I know it seems churlish to complain as many have it heaps worse. He tends to wake up at about 4 and goes back to sleep quite easily. The problem is I don't ! If he didn't wake up then I wouldn't spend two hours awake in the middle of the night. If that makes sense. Better go DH is looking after T while I am supposedly putting the washing away.
You really should move to Leeds Rg; then we could have these chats over Malteser cake and tea

RGPargy · 01/06/2008 17:56

lol LOM! I think malteser cake and tea is a DEFFO reason to move to Leeds!!

OP posts:
sam86 · 01/06/2008 18:49

i think i will move to leeds too if its an open invitation!! sod the gmtv diet - that recipe looks too tempting!

i read that young babies push their tongues foreward to create saliva to swallow the food down as well, so hopefully not always a sign they dont like it/not ready?!raimee does it sometimes, especially when she was first having solids.

lom- im the same re flobbiness! i need to find a gym with a creche i think!and to stop being tempted by malteser cake!!

rg- raimees on purees too! your not alone! i think im too scared to go fully BLW tho shes had a piece of bread and a rusk and done ok with them (though now there is rusk in every crevice of car seat!she was covered in rusk and we were standing at the asda till discussing with the cashier how with the kids clothes being such good value and so cute there is no need for kids to be scruffy! i tried to move the trolley with raimee in out of her eyeline!)

im so fed up of today aready! raimees being cranky and dp is working all day, its raining so cant do much!and i am still in pjs!

on a more positive note, weve just got a bigger house which is a parlour house with an upstairs bathroom hooray!! (no more messing about with the alarm whenever want to go toilet in the night! and now can have a whole seperate room for all of these toys and dining table!) cant wait to have a living room that is just that again! plus its a better area(well it would be hard not to be tbh!) with a brill school around the corner so looks like thngs are finally looking up, fingers crossed. move in 6 wks!

xx

sam86 · 01/06/2008 18:49

p.s 6 months old today!!! i think thats a good enough excuse for cake! x

learningallthetime · 01/06/2008 18:52

Hi everyone,

Can I join in on this thread!

I'm quite new to mumsnet, my dd was born November 07, I've got photos of her on my profile .. go on, have a look!

RGPargy · 01/06/2008 20:46

Sam - that's a relief!! So far i have tried Ellie on carrot, sweet potato and butternut squash and she likes all of them. She also has babyrice for breakfast which she loves too. I'll get some rusks soon and see what she makes of them.

Learning - hello and welcome! Lovely pics!! Strictly speaking i shouldn't be on this thread as DD was born on 5th December but she was actually due on 27th November so i reckon i can get away with it. I need to get DD into the big bath too - she's just coming up for six months and is still in her baby bath but doesn't sit on her own yet so i'd probably need one of those bath seats at first. She's desperate to say sitting up tho - the other day she was grabbing onto the side of the baby bath desperate to stay sitting up so she could play, bless her!

Going to watch a film in a mo. Have a nice evening everyone!

Greedygirl · 02/06/2008 07:49

Hi everyone, keep trying to post then pesky kid and pesky DH keep interrupting! Anyway. Welcome Learning! Lovely pics, what a great smile!

Oh. My. God. Adam has just done unspeakable things in his nappy (weaning has some distinct disadvantages!). Back soon.

Greedygirl · 02/06/2008 08:24

Right, where was I?!

If we ever have a meet-up then we should all bring cakes, that Malteser cake sounds devine!

RG - I am doing BLW, I do help him with sloppy stuff like yoghurt but he does tend to snatch the spoon off me and he is pretty good at feeding himself but only because he is so intent on chewing the spoon, the food is an added extra iyswim. I'm not sure if I am doing the right thing either so that makes two of us!

LOM - you are so right about weetabix! If I ever run out of unibond I know what to use instead.

Jet - did you have a good night out?

Sam - your new house sounds great, we moved just before Adam was born and it was such a relief (we lived in a flat without a lift before and the thought of trekking up and down the stairs with pushchairs etc was worrying me).

Well DH won at fantasy football at work and treated me with his winnings (he alright after all, I'll keep him). I bought these jeans from Monsoon and they are fab for my mummy tummy, not too low or too high and a bit stretchy - I could have kissed them when i tried them on! I am v.boring and just wear jeans all the time so it is nice to have a least one decent pair. I also bought some wedges from Faith. Sam - ikwym re heels I have been wearing flat shoes since I was pregnant but the wedges I have bought feel safe and it is nice to feel tall again cos I am a short-arse.

Well I was bored and fed-up last week and this week is a bit too action packed! I am taking Adam swimming for the first time on Friday and I am going to a new breast-feeding support group tomorrow with one of the ladies from the post-natal group. TBH I am feeling a bit weary of breast-feeding at the mo , in my head I was going to get to 6 months and I have but I never thought beyond that and I now feel like I'll be feeding him till the end of time! Exaggeration obviously but I reckon chatting with some other mums will sort me out.

Have a good day everyone x

ChocolateHobnob · 02/06/2008 08:45

Hi ladies!

Weetabix is definitely adhesive - amazingly so - I find specks of it all over the place and it's impossible to get clean.

Jet, how was your night out?

Greedy, love the jeans!

RG, LOM, Jet, how come you all have a social life??? I'm always too tired as DD is still not sleeping more than 45 mins at once.

I saw LittleMissBliss on another thread asking if she might be pregnant!! can't remember where/when though - COME AND TELL US!!!

Sam, your house sounds fab, am glad you've found somewhere so nice. We had... but see below...

On the subject of baby food, I'm mixing it up: a bit of BLW and also a bit of puree. Can recommend, though, Philadelphia on toast - even if you're not BLW it will go down a treat - little miss chomps it down! I'm going to try new toppings on toast... hummus... mashed avocado, I think... hmm.. when can they have meat/chicken/fish, btw? She will be 7 months next week.

Crap week for me cos our house sale looks like it's falling through, after we've paid for all the surveys etc on our new house. Really gutted. Trying to keep it in perspective thinking of my friend in the psychiatric unit. Her lo is with her, in a nursery down the corridor as she isnt well enough to care for him on her own, but they are helping her to bond with him slowly by bringing him in when she's up to it for nappy changing etc. Awful. Makes my house thing seem very minor...

Bought DD thiswww.mothercare.com/gp/product/B0018OI4SC/sr=1-12/qid=1212392713/ref=sr_1_12/026-3260707-6126823?ie=U TF8&m=A2LBKNDJ2KZUGQ&n=77157031&mcb=core
is fab! she looks so cute..

Greedy, I know what you mean with the bf. I'm happy carrying on except it's getting harder out and about cos she's bigger and too nosy... but am not ready to stop, I love the snuggles!

have a good day everyone and wish me luck with the house!

sam86 · 02/06/2008 09:11

im in awe of all of you that are still BF'ing, wish i could have carried on longer..

choc - aww i can just imagine how cute she looks in that! i want to get the pink 7 in 1 trekker for dd, cant wait to see her in it! sorry about the house sale, ive got my fingers crossed for you that it all works out!

on the subject of social life - im the youngest in my family and yet my brother and sisters all have more of a social life than me! they all went out on sat and i just could not be bothered!! (maybe because they go to the worst parts of town in my opinion!!)

greedy- liking the jeans! im a short arse too so need all the help i can get really, after long walks round the park or farm i end up crying for the good old ballet pumps again! oh god, weaning nappies are the worst! and they seem to be timed to happen when dp is at work!

jet- get watching satc!! i rope dp in to watch it with me lol! makes me crave going shopping though so so much... How was your night out?

rg- what film did you go see? did you have a good time?

im really fed up at the mo and i dont even know why as i dont have much to moan about. just feeling so frumpy/ flabby/ pale, and just want some time to myself. its so annoying though, when i say to dp that im fed up coz sometimes it ends up like a competition and hes just telling me he doesnt want to go to work. i know its worse for him coz he has to go out each day and leave us, but i just want some time as me sometimes IYKWIM. i should just stop moaning and sort it out! sorry, stupid moment over now!

xxx

learningallthetime · 02/06/2008 10:26

I wish I hadn't stopped BF'ing now as well, but at the time I felt as if it was draining me, she was going through a growth spurt.

My LO is eating three meals a day, loves her fruit vegtables and I've just introduced some chicken which went well.

One of my friends has asked me to go out Saturday, I havent been out without dh or dd since she was born and I know I should be looking forward to it but I feel so fat and frumpy that I'm dreding it really. I might try and find a way out of it - I'm a coward I know!

RGPargy · 02/06/2008 13:18

Sarah - you're lucky in a way that Adam likes to help with feeding himself. The first couple of times we fed DD back in the early days she was the same with trying to grab the spoon but now her arms are rigid by her side and she shows no interest in feeding herself lol. Hopefully it'll change when we get a highchair for her to sit in at mealtimes. I'll start putting little bits of food on the tray for her to pick at when we sit her in it and see what happens. Well done DH and lovely jeans!!

I know what you mean about BF draining you. At the end of the day, that's why i gave it up and that's why DD is now on formula. We still our little morning feed in bed, which i really enjoy so it's not like i've totally given it up, which eases my conscience no end. I do feel better now that i have some "freedom" back again tho. As i'm a shy feeder i was dreading having to go out with the prospect of feeding DD in public.

Choc - cant believe DD is STILL waking every 45 minutes!!! How on earth do you survive!!! I do hope she sorts her sleeping pattern out soon and you can get some well deserved sleep!

Sam - we didn't go out to see a film but just watched a DVD indoors lol. We watched a film called History of Violence. It started off OK, but was a bit disappointing from the middle to the end. Still, it was a DVD on loan from DP's dad so didn't cost us anything. Sorry you're feeling a bit down Sam. IKWYM about wanting time to yourself. Sometimes it's all i can manage to even have an uninterrupted wee!!!

Learning - go on, go out - you'll enjoy it, i bet!!

Hi I'm back! Work again today and it was quite good I was in reception so all the kids are 4 and 5 and so cute!
I have started giving Anabel meat. I made a couple of stews one beef one chicken and I give her an ice cube size for lunch with another vege. I am mainly mushing everything but I give her some finger food everyday as well. She liked banana sandwiches and rice cakes with veges on. I was given the Annabel Karmel book and its really good. Most recieos are yummy enough for everyone to eat.
Still breastfeeding but hoping she will drop a feed soon. I'm thinking about going to a BF group to have a chat to them as I really want to keep going until she self weans.
I'll drop in again tomorrow. Bye...

RGPargy · 02/06/2008 21:47

Hi Febes!

Glad things are going well for you. I'm borrowing Annabel Karmel book on Wednesday from a friend as she said it was good too. Reception year kids are really cute aren't they lol.

OP posts:
sam86 · 03/06/2008 09:58

thanx rg, only problem is when you do get time to yourself you feel guilty for it!! dp took her for a bit yday, and when he come back he had left her in the car (he will kill me for telling you this!) - he was so excited coz he had just been offered an interview for a job he really wants and she was being quiet! i said "wheres raimee" and you shouldve seen his face, have never seen anyone run so fast. . .

think ive seen that film and didnt think much of it either! the title makes it sound good and epic though doesnt it!? as for feeding themselves- raimee tries but just sticks her hand into all the food on the spoon and it ends up everywhere!! she does try and hold her bottle though- will ellie drink from a beaker? ive tried but raimee wont have it! she will drink from one that has is pretty much a bottle teat but in the shape of a beaker spout, but wont drink from any proper beaker spouts!

learning- hiya and welcome! i am the same, i was meant to go out but the other week but didnt. i should have gone really, ive been to town with my mate once since dd was born and it wasnt really the same, and its so horrible feeling so self conscious isnt it? i guess we all feel the same so it must be normal after our bodies have been through such a change.

well ive decided to take some action! im signing up to start the cambridge diet from next week, going to see the "counsellor" on wednesday next week. My old manager/now friend did the lighter life diet which is apparently the same just a bit more expensive and with group sessions, and she looks amazing now and has kept it off. so fingers crossed though god knows if i have the will power. plus its raimees christening in two weeks so maybe i should wait until after that as dont fancy paying for a buffet and not getting any!

emegency question - is it possible to get the mumps twice? i had it about 2 years ago, but the same gland on the side of my face has swollen up again since last nite and is sore. its only one side at the mo. im just worried as i dont want raimee to catch anything, she hasnt really been ill yet and wouldnt want her to get something as bad as mumps.

hey febes! how are you doing? il have to get that book as well as nigellas now!!
xx

jetgirl · 03/06/2008 11:54

Good morning all! Was hoping to go out with the kids today but the weather is horrible and I can't face it. Having said that, DD has just donned her wellies and raincoat and wants to play in the garden, so I'll let her!

Welcome learning! Your little one is very cute, lovely grin!

RG - I don't think the thread would have lasted without you - who else would start the new one and put links in?! Have fun with the rusks! William just loves them, though they're so laden with sugar that I ration them to a quarter at a time. For what they are, I also think they're quite pricey.

febes - another Annabel Karmel fan here, I think her recipes are nice and easy, and DD certainly enjoyed them when I was weaning her. In fact I still do the scrambled egg and tomato for myself!

sam - hope it's not mumps! There are a lot of colds doing the rounds at the moment, and I tend to get swollen glands when I am struck down with one, so hopefully it's that. Don't feel bad about wanting time to yourself, it'll make you feel better in the long run. A nice hot bath and a glass of wine always helps (though if you've a cold you might want a lemsip instead!)

choc - sorry about the move. A similar thing happened to our frineds. The sale fell through on the day of exchange as their buyer had her mortgage withdrawn, so now they're stuck in their flat - with 3 kids . Good to hear your friend is getting such good support in hospital.

greedy - what a lovely DH you have! I remember feeling like that with DD, I always wanted to get to 6 months but hadn't thought any further. In the end I fed her until she was 14 months, though by that time it was just a bedtime feed and the odd morning feed. Once she was weaned she was more interested in 'real food', and expressing for her days at nursery just became tedious. She did say booby before she learnt to say mummy though!

lol at the thought I have a social life! It was my first night out in ages. we had a lovely time, the caberet act was really good (not Tom Jones!) and did lots of swing and motown. The food was delicious and the wine flowed freely! When we got home mum said William cried for 1 1/2 hours, threw up on her then fell alseep. No wonder she looked knackered!
We took the kids swimming on Sunday morning. It was William's first time and he loved it. I'll take a pic of him in his cute swimming shorts. He's quite the beach bum!
Ooh, that was a long one today, I must be neglecting my children!!

RGPargy · 03/06/2008 17:28

Sam - i dont feel guilty for having time to myself! far from it! I reckon that as i carried my baby inside my body for nine months and then got up at silly o'clock in the morning for 5 months and lent my boobies unconditionally to my baby, i actually DESERVE some time to myself. You really shouldn't feel guilty luv. Everyone deserves some "me" time.

I think with regard to feeding herself, if Raimee is sticking her hands into the food, that's a good sign! She will eventually learn to get her hands into her mouth and feed herself so keep at it!

Ellie will drink from anything i put to her lips really. Well i say "drink" but what i really mean is sip and then spit all down her front lol. I dont often give her drinks of baby squash etc but if i do give it to her, i try and do it from her doidy cup. She's not really interested tho, tbh lol.

Good luck with the Cambridge Diet! Hope you dont have mumps!

Jet - lol I'm too nerdy for my own good sometimes. Can you tell i dont have too much of a social life?! Glad you enjoyed your night out tho. Shame William was a bit unsettled. I'm sure it'll get easier with time.

I met an old friend today for lunch, which was really nice. We've been friends since we were 12 so would you believe i've known her for 28 years!!!! It was lovely to see her again as the last time we saw each other, we parted on bad terms (too long a story but all i'm going to say is booze was involved lol). We managed to clear the air today and i'm really relieved we got things sorted.

Hope everyone is having a nice day!

OP posts:
Greedygirl · 03/06/2008 21:04

Had to make notes just now as everyone v.chatty over last couple of days and my brain is still on pregnancy-time!

Choc - cute car! Sorry to hear about your house and fingers crossed that it sorts itself out. What a nightmare. Hope your friend is getting better, glad she can have her LO with her so she can still look after them with support. Must be awful. One of my friends had very severe post-natal depression (her nurse felt that she was psychotic at one point) and she has made a complete recovery and has a fantastic bond with her gorgeous DD.

Sam - sorry you are feeling a bit rubbish and mnet is the place to come and have a moan! After 6 months I am starting to crave some time to myself. I went for a coffee (ahem, read glass of wine!) with a friend on Saturday and it was heaven to have a full conversation with no interruptions. When I got home it turned out that Adam had cried for an hour which is v.unusual for him but I didn't even feel guilty because I fed him just before I went so it can't of been that. Also it did my DH good - he now realises why the housework doesn't always get done!! Hope you don't have the mumps, you feeling any better?

Learning - I didn't feel like going out until quite recently, I don't think you should force yourself if it will make you feel crap (on the other hand you might have a great time!!) Can't you get your friends to come to you instead?

RG - History of Violence, what a pile of crapola! My DH loved it however. Glad you sorted out that stuff with your friend.

Jet - your night out sounded fab.

Febes - I went to the breastfeeding support group today and really enjoyed it. It was more of a social event really. A lactation specialist came to talk to everyone but I had to leave before I had the chance to speak to her. It is on every week though with different speakers so I am looking forward to going again. I want to find out about going back to work and continuing breastfeeding. Ironically I couldn't breastfeed in the room because Adam is so flaming nosey that he wouldn't settle so I had to go and sit next door!

Have a good evening everyone x
