Hi everyone!

I haven't checked in here in ages, at least not since spring. We've had a crazy time but I'm now happily married and living in Ireland. DD, Nova, is walking around and saying a few proto-words and is generally very cheerful and high-energy. I'm not working at any kind of regular job yet and don't have plans to go back to work, because I'm really enjoying our life right now. In the past few months I've slowly gotten back into serious writing (fiction, mostly novels) and I feel like I'm finally making progress with it again.

We also had an episode in the last few weeks where Nova went totally off solid foods and was nursing like crazy. It's either teething, illness, some developmental milestone, or all of the above! She's back to getting some food down now, thank goodness, because I don't want to breastfeed her forever (past 1, yes, until 18 months, probably, past 2 years... I'd rather not).

Loopy: My vote is for the pink stripey one, hands down. I used a plain orange stretchy wrap for the first 4 months or so and got quite tired of it.

Poppy: My DD, born at the end of November last year, just started walking on her own and has a few words (mostly "dog"). People around here are shocked that she's walking so soon, as if there's something a bit weird about it. It sounds like yours is doing fine!

If you think this is a pants idea let me know but - As first birthdays are rapidly approaching ( and passing, sorry SGK] I thought it would be good for us to mark them in some way. So I thought I could organise a ' secret santa but with birthday presents '. Those interested could e-mail me addresses; I'd match people up and we each send an anonymous gift for one LO. Obviously we'd agree on a ceiling price - I thought maybe a tenner.
Whaddya think?

littleoldme · 20/10/2008 17:49

Hi Aiki >

Febes · 20/10/2008 18:54

Hi Alki!!! Your a writer how cool!! Congrate on the marriage you have had quite a year then!!
LOM- Sounds like a great idea I'm in! Whats your email??

Febes · 20/10/2008 20:48

You're a writer I just read that back. I blame the baby brain.

RGPargy · 20/10/2008 20:51

Hi Aiki!! Welcome back! Nice to know that you are all doing well! Congrats on the wedding (and the walking too! )

LOM - i think that's a fab idea!! Do you still have my email address?

OP posts:
aikigypsy · 20/10/2008 20:56

Thanks! The wedding was crazy. We had plans to do it in America, then in Ireland, then at another time in Ireland, and went through the whole bureaucracy here only to get married in America, on 48 hours' notice.

The gift exchange is a fun idea, but I'm slightly out-of-country so it might be a bit tricky, or at least the postage would cost more.

jetgirl · 20/10/2008 22:22

Hi poppycoc - William has just hit the cruising stage too, and apart from mama, which he has only said twice since last Thursday, everything else is babbling. My friend's baby was walking before she was 10 months (I was not jealous, she has 2 other kids and is totally knackered!)

Hello again Aiki! Your life sounds pretty idyllic at the moment Congratulations on the wedding. William's doing the nursing thing at the moment, he's just not that bothered by solids, I'm hoping it will pass soon!

Brilliant idea LOM! I'm in.

littleoldme · 20/10/2008 22:45

Oh hurrah, glad you are up for it. Now go and grab a paper and pencil in a Blue Peter competition styleeee.(spot the teacher} Anyone who wants to take part should e mail me at rebekah 50 morgan @ yahoo .com with the following, your name and MN nickname, lo's name and DOB and your address. If you do that by Sat the first of Nov I can sort it all out the Sunday - It'll also allow our less regular posters to take part.
Does no more than £10 sound reasonable - ideas welcome.

Aiki, fret ye not; I'm sure we can absorb the cost of postage and find a suitably light present. Big congrats on getting hitched

RG - I think I've got your e-mail but if you could let me have your address and stuff again that would be useful.

Greedygirl · 21/10/2008 10:34

Hi everyone
LOL LOM re the willy holding, I'll have to use that one! [Greedy goes away and frets that Adam can only hold his for 5 minutes at a time ]. I'll be up for the birthday fairy. I'll email you later.

Hi Aiki! Sounds like you have had a lovely year and Nova is a little superstar. Ikwym re the breastfeeding. I was hoping he might have cut down a little by now but he is visibly delighted when the boob comes out!

Speak later everyone, must do some work.

Have sent you an email LOM so hope you have got it.
I bid on some stuff on ebay for Anabel and got it for 99p and only 4 pounds for P & P bonus!!! It is a bundle of about 6 items I feel a bit bad getting it for so cheap.

RGPargy · 21/10/2008 21:14

LOM - have emailed you all the info you need. Thanx so much for organising this!

Loopy - you are a naught naughty girl! Another sling!! (but it's just oooooh so pretty!! )

Febes - wow, bargain!! I once bought loads of toys from Ebay for a tenner without postage coz i collected the stuff locally. Some of the toys alone were worth about £25 new but i got about 6 big toys for a tenner. Dont feel guilty tho - that's the beauty of ebay!

think i might go and have a look on there to see if there's any bargains going!

Ooooooo i have some exciting news!!! My mum is finally coming back to England in time for Ellie's first birthday!!! I haven't seen my mum since October 2006 because she lives in Spain and hasn't been back in the UK for years now! She's not even met Ellie yet so it'll be a first for them both to meet. I'm really excited! I've gotta pick her up from the airport tho, but i'm undecided as to whether to take Ellie with me as her flight lands at 6.30pm and Ellie's bedtime is 7pm. I might just take her tho, i'm sure mum would love to see her as she came out of customs.

jetgirl · 21/10/2008 22:43

RG - you have to take Ellie! How wonderful that your mum will be able to celebrate with you.

Loopy - your sling addiction sounds a little like my nursing necklace one. I can always justify the purchase!

Febes - I have a confession, I have never been on ebay!! Sounds like I must though, fantastic bargains to be had obviously.

Off shopping tomorrow for my friend's present as she goes on maternity leave at the end of the week. She lives around the corner so I'll be able to go and stalk her newborn at the end of November

littleoldme · 22/10/2008 08:17

Cheers girls - I'll check my e-mail in a sec.
RG- Fab news about your mum coming over. The thought of you handing over Ellie for a first cuddle with Granny made me well up.

Loopy- Well done on the sling. I've emailed you.

Febes - Good one on your e bay bargains.

I'm knackered today. I fell asleep ant 9.30 then was woken when Dh came to bed at 1.30. To be fair I was sleeping on both sides of the bed so I could understand. I coldn't nod off again though and ended up listening to an hour of radio and watching Jamie Oliver on the sky plus.

Oh and I''m to upload pics of DS - he had his forst bike ride yesterday. Bless

RGPargy · 22/10/2008 09:21

Hmmmm looks like i will be taking Ellie after all then!! Cant wait for mum to meet her finally!

Jet - how lovely! A newborn to stalk! You lucky thing!

LOM - Hope you get a better night's sleep tonight. DS looks lovely and snuggly in the bike seat, bless him! Did he enjoy his bike ride? He's such a cutie isn't he! He's obviously got good taste too because him and Ellie have the same walker lol.

Greedygirl · 22/10/2008 15:03

RG - how exciting for you all! My mum and dad are coming down from Shetland next week for the week and they are fit to burst so I can only imagine what your mum must be feeling like!

LOM - I was wondering when they could go on the back of a bike; he looks very pleased with himself. I bet Adam would love it. Now I just have to get a bike!

Loopy - I was talking about slings with another mum today. She has a more structured back carrier for walks, Little People or something like that. I tried the Jetpack earlier this year. Adam loved it initially but soon became tetchy - do you have any more structured ones?

Nothing much to report here. Adam continues to wake up twice a night for feeds (he has done this ever since I went back to work) so feeling a bit tired. Find it really hard to keep my eyes open much beyond 9.30 much to my DH's disgust. Must go, DS is up to no good.

littleoldme · 22/10/2008 16:06

Greedy - They can go on abike as soon as they can hold themselves sitting up and fit a helmet. The smallest one we found was 45cm chead circumference - not that we researched it or anything. the seat we got was quite pricey but it's comfy and safe. Our friends had their Lo's in one t'ill the youngest was 3 1/2 and she got too big for it.

littleoldme · 23/10/2008 09:12

Loopy - looks like we'll miss you tomorrow. Gotta dash. sp'osed to be in bristol in an hour and T has only just woken up!

Loopy - nursing necklaces here Delivery usually takes less than a week. I got a couple a few weeks ago when it was nearly $2 to the pound so they were a real bargain!

Febes · 26/10/2008 12:21

I braved the drizzle today and went out to a car boot sale and got some great bargins for Anabel(and LO one day) A little push along bike just like I had when I was little, a booster seat for the dinner table for when she is out of the high chair (a while away yet but handy for the future), 2 ELC toys/puzzles, 2 lovely skirts and a train with loads of buttons and noisy things. All for under a tenner!! I love a bargin!!!
Anabel has played so nicely but I will choose a couple of the things and put them away until her birthday on the 22nd of nov. I also made her a lovely lunch from Annabel Karmel's book so I feel like a very good mummy.
I think it's the good sleep I had last night Anabel slept from 6.30 until 6 this morning which was actually 5. She feed then went back to sleep until until old time 8. I feel much better today as well only a bit of MS this morning and nothing since so hopefully it will ease off now.

Ohhhhh scan today, nervous, excited!
I got a load of baby stuff down from the loft as my friend is due in december and is borrowing my moses basket, baby bath, baby gym and bouncer chair thingy. She will be finished with the stuff about the same time as my baby needs it so it works out perfectly.
I also went through all Anabels baby stuff and sorted itinto 'only girls' and 'could be both' and there is so much in the could be both bag so won't have to buy much if its a boy and won't have to buy anything if its a girl.
I also got my maternity stuff out so I hope I'm not tempting fate.
We rang our builder who was going to start the loft after christmas but he says he can start in 3 weeks so I can't wait as we have Anabel in our room until the new room is done and everytime I go to the loo in the night I wake her up and its not cool!!! On sat night she slept 12 hours and then had anther snooze in our bed for about an hour but last night she was awake from 3.30am when I went to the loo until about 5.30 and then went to sleep for an hour so I'm wreaked today.
