Enjoy it while it lasts RG, I can't leave her for a moment anymore, she's always got bruises (no fear my one) and generally is much harder work, but hey all good fun.. It was such a relief when she worked out that she could bend her legs to get down rather than letting go and falling quite dramatically.

We finally seem to be getting there with the naps thing, some sort of routine started to emerge last week, and longer naps seem to mean better sleep, am feeding her to sleep several times a night. I have No cry sleep solution, if only I had the energy to read it!

This morning she was sick on my top, and as I took it off she bent down and latched on!! When I think how difficult it was to get that latch 9 months ago tis amazing really. She doesn't feel like a baby anymore, more a nearly toddler, she just seems so grown up recently

Greedygirl · 10/08/2008 08:06

Yikes re the yoghurts! Had heard that they were sugary but didn't realise how much. Adam tends to flick yoghurt at the walls so he doesn't often have it .

Wonderstuff - Isla sounds like she is keeping you on your toes! Nice to know that Adam is not the only 23lber, he is certainly the biggest baby in my area in RL! Adam has also settled down to having 2 naps a day, one in the morning about 40 mins and one in the afternoon between 1 - 2 hours and is always lovely and happy afterwards.

Nothing much to report here. Went to see DH's grandparents yesterday. I find it really hard to warm to them and yesterday did nothing to alter that I'm afraid! They told my gorgeous niece that she was "tubby" and "piling it on" !! She is 10 but thankfully it seemed to go over her head, she is a bit of a dreamer and I don't think she was really listening to them. Then I asked if I could go upstairs to feed Adam (he is such a nosey bugger that it is impossible to feed him near any distractions these days although I would not have felt comfortable anyway), Grandma said I could sit in the kitchen and she would "throw a towel" over me!!! I was very firm and said I would prefer to go upstairs. My DH told me afterwards that she doesn't like people going upstairs for some reason. Their house is really pristine and very cold and uncomfortable, it makes me feel very sad because they are always so happy to see us and hinting that we should go more often but I find it such a chore going and always come away fuming about something. Thankfully Adam was on top form.

Well the sun is shining here for now so best go and hang my washing out! Have a good day. x

wonderstuff · 10/08/2008 11:24

Yes, Isla is the biggest baby I know in RL too. She is also the most active one I know! My sil's little one is 3 months younger and is starting to try to crawl, it's really strange because although they are cousins my dh and bil were adopted so they share no dna at all yet both seem to be really similar and so much more active than the other babies we know. I'm glued
the olympics at the moment, so strange I normally hate sport but am now getting excited about boxing!

RGPargy · 10/08/2008 21:34

Wonderstuff - glad you have got a nap routine going on. We sort of have too, Ellie has one in the morning shortly after breakfast and then sometimes has another one in the afternoon. However, her bed time routine has completely gone out the window lately! she used to go to bed at 7pm ish but now it's more like 8.30/9pm and it's doing my head in!! if i take her up before then she just normally ends up crying and getting hysterical unless i bring her back down again. I'm thinking maybe i will try and get her to NOT sleep in the afternoon so that she's extra tired in the evening and see what happens.

Greedy - Your DH's grandparents sound like right old gits!! lol!!

wonderstuff · 11/08/2008 21:54

Well naps today were rubbish, I spoke too soon, 20mins this morning and 45 this afternoon! RG how long is her morning nap? We have the same problem with bedtime routine, we used to have this failsafe routine, but went too pot a few months ago and like you 8.30/9 is normal. Today she was actually asleep at 7.30, then as soon as her head hit the cot, wide awake, crying then chatting away when I brought her back into the livingroom. I heard good things about 'healthy sleep, healthy child on another thread, so ordered but is coming from the US so going to take 10 days! Will let you know how we get on if I can stay awake long enough to read it.

Isla is starting to play more nicely, had a friend and her 2yo round today, last time they were round a few weeks ago it was a nightmare because Isla just kept grabbing at her toddler and so I had to restrain her really. Today she sat and played, was lovely, she didn't even object when the toddler kept nicking her toys from her

RGPargy · 11/08/2008 22:18

Oh isn't it awful when you think you've got it sussed only for them to nip your smugness in the bud!!! Ellie's morning nap usually lasts for about an hour, sometimes two hours if she's really tired. I'm wondering if she's not been tired out enough during the day for her to be tired in the evening. Today i took her with me to WW so she didn't sleep then, and this afternoon i went to a soft play centre with my friend so she never slept then either. After that DP and I went to the pub for some dinner, got home around 8pm, gave DD more milk got her changed for bed. She then sat on my lap for about 20 mins or so before i attempted to put her to bed and she was out like a light. I was very relieved, even if it WAS 8.45pm! Let me know what the book's all about.

Glad that Isla is playing nicely now. it's lovely to see them interacting with other children.

Yep, jinxed Adam's naps by talking about them too! Actually he is still having them but glued to my lap and boob rather than in his cot as usual. Still, I should enjoy the snuggling while it lasts!

jetgirl · 12/08/2008 21:14

William had his 8 month check today, all was fine, although the HV told me I need more sleep! duh...this was after I told her about William's wakefulness at night at the moment!

William normally has a couple of naps a day, one just after breakfast and one after lunch, though yesterday didn't nap at all, while I was fighting to keep my eyes open!

greedy - your DHs grandparents sound a bit weird - they must be fairly old though too? My granny thinks William is huge (he weighs nearly 19lbs, so is hardly massive) but that's because my dad was such a skinny baby. She declared William obese when he was born!!

wonderstuff - you sound like you're being kept busy. William is just about crawling backwards, though can't go farwards yet, I think standing alone is a way off yet. I think I really will be exhausted then!

RGPargy · 12/08/2008 22:48

GG - awww bless Adam and his sleeping on your lap/boob. As sweet as it is, it must be a bit frustrating when you just want to get on with stuff while he's asleep! Can you not carry him around in a sling/carrier? If Ellie is being fussy and i really want to get on, i stick her in the wilkinet and she's quite happy to sit there snuggled up to me while i crack on with the hoovering or cooking etc etc.

Jet - glad William is fine and dandy! Still no notification of Ellie's 8 month check yet. Do you think i should check with my GP to see if the appointments have been sent out yet? Am a bit by your granny's declaration of William being obese at birth!!! Old people can be so funny at times cant they. lol!

wonderstuff · 14/08/2008 16:42

Glad William is well, and Adam does sound sweet snuggling with you. I often don't put Isla down as quickly as I should, coz I'm enjoying the cuddles, she ALWAYS falls asleep on my boob, then when I do gingerly go to put her in the cot she's wide awake, its a nightmare my house is such a sty.

Have to share this morning with you.. Isla chucked up in my hair first thing (looked soo pleased with herself), normally I shower in the evening when dh is around because there isn't really anywhere to put Isla unsupervised in our ickle flat, anyho not an option this morning so I put her on the bathroom floor with some toys (making sure the toilet seat was down) and jumped in. Isla hadn't read the script and clambered up to the bath, janked back the shower curtain, and stood there grinning at me getting really wet! One of the 'toys' was a plastic mug and when i got out she sat on the floor holding the mug by its handle pretending to drink -it wasSOO cute

littleoldme · 14/08/2008 17:28

Hello all. I've been lurking for while as life has been very manic. I left T with the CMer today for two hours. He was fine:I was a nervous wreck. At least it's done now. One more week till the bad place.
I've decided to do childminding so I've registered on an introduction course. Very excited about it all.

Jet - Gosh your HV sounds helpful, I bet you didn't knoe you needed more sleep.
Glad the check went well. We only get 3 and 12 month checks here.

GG I'd enjoy those cuddles, I miss BFing.

RG- T doesn't crawl yet either and believe I'm in no hurry. He manages to wreak enough havoc already! Yesterday I left him on the bed for less than a min. In that time he got hold of a folder of apaer work that I believed to be out of grabbing range and emptied everywhere. When I came him he waved the phone-bill around and grinned so broadly that I didn't care about the mess.

jetgirl · 15/08/2008 08:50

lom - I am constantly surprised by William's grabbing range, I should learn really! My HV is normally very helpful, but I did think her sleep comment was a bit silly really. While the kids were at nursery yesterday I went to bed for the whole afternoon! Good luck with the CM course.

wonderstuff - that is cute!

RG - maybe contact your HV re the check. How's work going?

Greedygirl · 15/08/2008 10:21

Jetgirl - yes DH's grandparents pretty old so I should cut them some slack I guess but I would happily go and see them more if they were a bit warmer. Glad you caught up on some sleep.

LOM - good plan re the childminding. Does it take long to get registered etc? I left Adam with my CM recently for a couple of hours and he was fine, I nearly cried driving away but held it together! I am surprisingly chilled about the impending term with no lesson plans but I won't be so cool when I am in front of loads of new students so will have to do something soon...

RG - I wish I had used a sling from the off with Adam but he doesn't really tolerate them for long now, also he is a big boy so I would rather watch The Wright Stuff and have a snuggle than break my back!

Wonderstuff - how cute?! Adam doesn't really imitate us yet, he mainly bangs things together and tries to eat them. Very cave-baby!

RGPargy · 15/08/2008 12:04

Wonderstuff - awww bless her, she sounds so cute!!

LOM - good luck with the childminding! That's certainly one way of working from home! Ellie has a long reach too and always grabs things that i think are waaaay out of reach! I'm amazed at how she can literally double herself over and reach forward for stuff while she's sitting there hehehe.

Jet - glad you managed to catch up on some sleep. As for the 8 month check, i've just phoned up my GP's surgery to ask them what happens about the 8 month check and the receptionist said "who's the check with?". So i said "erm.... i dont know! that's why i'm calling YOU!". FFS! So she is going to get a HV to call me back. Talk about not knowing your arse from your elbow!

Work is going ok. It's not too much of a chore at the moment as it's only 2 days so my working days are over before you know it. I do miss DD when i'm at work tho.

Sarah - Fair enough! I think if Ellie was a lump she'd not be in a sling either! Having said that, i did put her in the babyhawk the other day on my back all on my own! She was a bit nervous about what i was doing with her over the sofa (i.e. slinging her around etc) but once she was on my back she didn't seem to mind too much!

OP posts:
wonderstuff · 15/08/2008 14:35

Greedy it doesn't happen often, shes back to banging and chewing today, i think she's teething AGAIN, desperate to chew on my knee and sholder - Ouch!

Glad work is going ok RG, I am soo looking forward to the start of term, three days a week of adult conversation (ish, 11 yo seem very grown up next to isla) and its so lovely to come home to her at the end of the day. Mine you mil is supposed to be having her one day a week and she has gone awol, trying not to worry about it yet (she's very odd and has probably gone on hols without telling anyone)

DanJARMouse · 16/08/2008 18:01

whats all this talk of an 8mnth check?! There is usually one between 9-12mnths (well there used to be!) but Im not worried about Daniel so doubt i will get him checked!

Got him weighed yesterday - 21lbs 5oz (9.7kg) FAT BOY! Nah, he is very tall, comfortably in 9-12mnth clothes so not concerned.

Crawling and cruising everywhere!

And......

HE SAID MUMMY!!! Properly!!! He had fallen asleep in his highchair so we left him there, me and DH sat in living room, and all we heard was him start to stir and then say clear as day Mummy! Well it made my day!!!

RGPargy · 16/08/2008 22:36

Wonderstuff - lol @ your MIL going awol!! Bit worrying actually, especially if she's meant to be looking after DD!

Jarm - Glad your little man is doing well. DD is also in 9-12 month clothes now, but it depends on where i buy them as to whether or not they swamp her or fit just right. Bless him for saying mummy!! how sweet!!

OP posts:
wonderstuff · 17/08/2008 17:37

How lovely, saying mummy, Isla just sings blahblahblah and blows rasberries

RGPargy · 17/08/2008 21:41

lol wonderstuff. Sounds exactly like DD too!

OP posts:
wonderstuff · 18/08/2008 17:27

I hate rainy days, anyone else bored, bored, bored?

DanJARMouse · 18/08/2008 17:31

oh yes, bored here! Even harder with 2 active girls to entertain on top of DS!

He hasnt said mummy since, so think it was more likely sounds not intentional!

is always saying mamamama or dadadadada or bubububububa and raspberries are a favourite here too, as well as sticking out his tongue.

just ordered him some winter clothes as its got quite cold here now in 12-18mnth size

wonderstuff · 18/08/2008 17:47

Ohh what did you get? Been on ebay for some winter stuff, given up on summer

jetgirl · 18/08/2008 21:59

It's like autumn isn't it? Completely rubbish, I hate this weather.

Jarm - I'm sure he did say mummy, he's just biding his time till he says it again. William loves blowing raspberries and going 'da da da, and pursing his lips while humming and running his fingers over his mouth - very cute but not mummy which is of course what I want him to say!

wonderstuff - any sign of your mil yet?

LittleMissBliss · 18/08/2008 22:05
