heat is evil!

bought a little paddling pool today and filled it with lukewarm water and daniel sat in it for about half an hour splashing away.

Sparkly, lucky you keeping a top on Callum, Daniel has been in just a nappy during the day for what seems like weeks!

Greedygirl · 28/07/2008 21:55

Yes this heat is definately unsettling Adam, his room just happens to be west-facing so the sun sets into his room and turns it into an oven just before bed-time grrrr! I have the windows wide open but it is really noisy with all the kids enjoying the lovely weather and playing out late. Makes you wish for rain, grump, grump...!

RGPargy · 28/07/2008 22:01

Jarm - At the mo Ellie doesn't like paddling pools lol. think i might have to put an empty one in the front room with her toys in it so that she gets used to it. I hope she isn't developing a phobia of inflatables!!

Sarah - I hate the heat when it's like this. Ellie has been a little cowbag to get to sleep tonight because her room is also quite hot in the summer but very cool in the winter. Thankfully the kids aren't playing out the front so far this year so it's not really noisy with the windows open - for all the good that it does actually having them open!!

I know, the air feels thick! Adam doesn't feel hot to the touch but he keeps waking up and he does this horrible wailing and I am just assuming that it is the heat. 25oC according to his room thermometer. I am going to throw that bloody thing out of the window because I am obsessed with it and that poor boy has sheets on, sheets off, blanket, no blanket and I am constantly feeling the back of his neck for (a) hypothermia or (b) overheating. Grump, grump....

DanJARMouse · 28/07/2008 22:18

daniel has been going to bed in just a vest and gro-bag.

it is raining and thundering here now. Hoorah!!! Long may it continue!

RGPargy · 28/07/2008 22:33

ugh, dont talk to me about room thermometers!! The last two nights Ellie's has said 27 degrees, which is the highest one on the scale of the thermo! she's not been feeling toooo hot thankfully but sometimes her room is just so stuffy, no wonder she's crying and playing up! I wouldn't want to sleep in there either!

Ellie's just been going to bed in a t-shirt the last couple of nights. I cant even entertain the idea of a grobag - way too hot here!

Send the storms this way please Jarm! I love storms!

Greedygirl · 28/07/2008 22:40

Oh I love storms too and we have skylights in our bedroom now and I love hearing the rain on them! Send them here when you are cooled down RG and Jarm!

RGPargy · 28/07/2008 22:58

Ooo it's just started raining here now! Think Jarm must have sent it our way already! You can expect the rain in an hour or so Sarah!

ooh - lots to catch up on!

choc - glad the move went well and you're settling in.

Jarm - nice to have you back - am very jealous of your sleeping baby! Just when William seems to have got the hang of it he either has another tooth coming through or gets a cold. At the moment it's a rotten cold, which I have too now, and I have totally lost my voice which is a real pain.

Sparkly - William has also been living in a nappy and vest recently, he hates the heat. Can you believe Callum will be one soon? He sounds like he's coming on in leaps and bounds.

RG - Good luck at work on Thursday! Will be thinking of you.

Hi to everyone else too! Sorry, I'm feeling quite rubbish with this cold so will call it a night and catch up properly soon.

SparklyGothKat · 29/07/2008 23:14

Jetgirl, its scary to think that Callum will be 1 in 8 weeks, its gone so fast and he is doing so well now.

ChocolateHobnob · 30/07/2008 17:59

I can't believe Callum is nearly one either! Wow.

Hi everyone! Where's Loopy??? is she still missing in action?

Good luck tomorrow RG! Sending lots of good vibes your way.

Jetgirl, snap with the sleep and the teething - I'm with you! How's your holiday going? are you going away anywhere?

Febes, are you enjoying the break too?

Anyone else still bf out there? how long do you plan to continue? I am and am aiming to reach 1 year if poss, then see!

OK, off to tend to her ladyship!

Greedygirl · 30/07/2008 19:30

Hi Choc - I am thinking a year now, can hardly believe it as I originally thought just 6 months. Am hoping he will self-wean around then.

Good luck tomorrow RG, will be thinking of you.

Where did the year go? I remember telling my DH that you had gone into labour Kat!

SparklyGothKat · 30/07/2008 21:35

still BF here too Can't see Callum giving it up easily tbh

SparklyGothKat · 30/07/2008 21:46

yep 25th sept my tiny scrap of a baby will be 1!!! He is crawling, pulling to stand, chatting, has become a mummy's boy who won't let me out his sight

RGPargy · 30/07/2008 22:08

Blimey!! Hasn't the time flown!!!!

OP posts:
SparklyGothKat · 30/07/2008 22:10

yep, still makes me laugh though, when people say 'oh, is he about 6-7 months' and I say 'no 10 months' and they look like hehe!!

Greedygirl · 31/07/2008 07:16

Sparkly - yes the self-weaning thing is a bit pie in the sky, I can't see Adam giving up BF that easily either - eek!

jetgirl · 31/07/2008 09:32

choc - we're off on holiday to Liverpool as I have relatives there, but otherwise it's a matter of getting the house into some semblance of order, which hasn't happened since William arrived! I'm still bf too, William has tried biting a couple of times but my reaction upset him slightly!

sparkly - William is also a mummy's boy, and another one who I can't see giving up easily on the bf.

Jarm - no more babies here as we just can't afford it, we're in a 2 bed house, and won't be getting a bigger one in the near future. If we win the lottery though...
I'd love 2 more, but have come to accept that this isn't going to happen.

I have to unplug the computer now as I'm about to start decorating the dining room! Fun!!

RGPargy · 31/07/2008 12:50

hi everyone!

Just checking in from the office lol. As you can tell i'm absolutely flat out and rushed off my feet (not! ) so i thought i'd just sign in and say hi. I'm at a spare desk for today and then from tomorrow and every Thursday and Friday i will be doing a job share with another girl in the office.

Missing DD a little bit, i have to admit, although leaving her with MIL was easy this morning as we've had a few practice runs over the last couple of weeks and they both get on famously! Huge relief!!

littleoldme · 31/07/2008 18:05

Glad it's all going ok RG . t and I have been sneding you positive vibes today X

Pixiefish · 31/07/2008 18:09

just found you again.

Swyn is 9 months tomorrow- can't believe it.

Still breastfeeding. has one tooth, crawling like th eclappers and pulling herself up to the furniture

ChocolateHobnob · 31/07/2008 18:18

Hi Pixie, you've done so well!

RG, I remember just before you went on mat leave you were never -ahem - too busy to post, were you? Hurrah, we would miss ya otherwise.

R is crawling... backwards!!! How dense is that??

SparklyGothKat · 31/07/2008 18:23

Choco, Callum crawled backwards to begin with, within a week, he started going forwards

RGPargy · 31/07/2008 21:10

LOM - thanx for the vibes, they obviously did the trick today!

Pixie - blimey, you are doing fabulously with the BF - well done!

Choc - i think it's fairly common for babies to start off crawling backwards before they get the motion to crawl forwards so i'm sure it wont be long before she gets the hang of it.

Well my day at work is now a distant memory. I was getting tired about 3ish but that was probably due to the post-lunch slump that people in offices get lol. I got home and couldn't wait to pick up DD and smother her with kisses but she was far too interested in mummy's posh new work necklace lol. Still, after we got home, i gave her her bedtime bottle and changed her into her bedtime clothes and we had a little giggle together, which was lovely. She hadn't slept all afternoon so was starting to fall asleep on my chest. I had to reluctantly put her to bed, bless her. Glad that it's Friday tomorrow. I think i could really handle this two day week lark!!

Greedygirl · 01/08/2008 09:33

Glad it went OK RG, think my work will be made bearable by the thought of coming home for snuggles with DS.

Choc - my LO is going backwards too! V.frustrating for him cos he is trying to reach his toys then ends up further away! Silly sausage. He also now sits up in his pushchair and holds onto the bumper bar like he at the prow of a ship and shouts at people - where did my little quiet baby go?!

Pixie - hello!

Well all our usual groups have stopped for the hols so I plucked up the courage to suggest to some of the music group that we go for a coffee over the hols and we have been the park and pub a few times - lovely! I am just getting into the swing of this maternity leave lark, even making DH's packed lunch which I can't usually be arsed with. What a shame it is all coming to an end soon .
