Here we go. I was too sick, sleepy and preoccupied with my weight to notice the old thread running out

hi ria how are you?

sputnik we cold have an interesting night tonight as ds2 was not interested in his bf tonight was more bothered looking around can't wait

justbeme · 06/05/2008 21:32

Hi all
Jammy there seems to be a lot of chicken pox around at the mo - Im half expecting L to come down with it - as I think I said she's not been right since fri.
Sputnik - have had problems putting her down the last few nights - she's as calm as anything and appears to be asleep and the minute she touches the cot mattress she screams. In the end tonight I just left her for 12mins and she finally went off - but am waiting for her to wake soon as this is what seems to have happened these last few nights. Not sure if its tummy ache/tooth ache or what.

What a beautiful sunny day we had today!!

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 06/05/2008 21:39

We had loads of trouble with the jamlet's sleep in March, she'd wake in the night and feed but then take an hour or to go back to sleep and would cry for ages and ages. And then we started giving her teething powder just before bed and it all got much better and she started sleeping through most nights. Coincidence? Maybe, but we daren't chance not giving it to her!

Ria!!!! good to see you.

RiaButterflew · 06/05/2008 21:50

It's good to be back!!!!

baggins is not asleep and is being very cute and cheeky. He is also trying to walk. Bless him, but GO TO SLEEP!

DH is feeling ill so has gone to bed with baggins so I'm left on my own watching Run Fat Boy Run.

Night.

RiaButterflew · 06/05/2008 23:20

Jammy - he is nearly tasty! What's the Irish guy fromn Black Books called? Thak goodness Clarkson is tall with a big head - lots of room on his pedestal!

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 07/05/2008 06:29

Dylan Moran, Ria.

As a totally inane aside, our naming system for our local theatres is under threat. We can never (or at least DH can never remember) their proper names so we refer to them as the "Dylan Moran theatre" and the "Bill Bailey theatre" because they were the first things we saw at them. But now, travesty! Dylan Moran is coming to the Bill Bailey theatre this autumn.

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 07/05/2008 10:54

Jamlet is still poorly. She slept until 6 and since then from 7.45 - 9, 9.30 - 10.15 and has just fallen asleep again. This is so not like her. Temp = 40 now

LittleMissNorty · 07/05/2008 13:33

Jammy - 40 is very high. Is the calpol bringing her temp down?

foxythesnowfox · 07/05/2008 15:12

Jammy sorry to hear DD's not well. Have you got any Nurofen in? You give one, then two hours later give the other. So still dosing 4 hourly, but staggering the two medicenes. You probably would only need to do it once each for it to work.

andiem · 07/05/2008 16:26

jammy hope dd is feeling better this pm

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 07/05/2008 19:02

We've had the afternoon in the hospital. I rang nhs direct this morning who said to see the gp, who said to go to children's A&E So DH came home from work and took us and we were there 5 hours But the diagnosis is an ear infection, so we have some of the bright yellow ABs for her, and keep giving calpol of course. She's slept most of the day until about 4pm, so who knows what tonight will be like, but just glad it's nothing too serious.

andiem · 07/05/2008 19:35

jammy poor dd do you have any nurofen it is good for fever and pain and you can give it as well as the calpol as foxy says
hope tonight isn't too bad

LittleMissNorty · 07/05/2008 19:47

Poor you Jammy....when DD had ear infection and ABs I done the regular neurofen / calpol for 48 hours even if temp felt OK (i was told to)(even got up in the night I was so worried) and then she got oral thrush....so watch out for refusal of feeds / fussiness (esp in this weather)....hope she feels better soon x

lilQuidditchKel · 07/05/2008 20:09

goodness jammy what a fright. tg it's a routine thing...good luck!

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 07/05/2008 20:35

Thanks ladies. Yes it was scary. She's normally such a lively girl who fights daytime naps (too scared she'll miss something ), so to see her sleeping all morning, slumped over my shoulder, all listless was really odd. We don't have any infant nurofen and the calpol wasn't doing much if anything for her temperature. The GP thought she sounded a little chesty but wasn't sure if it was a chest infection, so off we went to A&E, where they did general obs, gave some nurofen, did a chest xray and urine tests, and finally diagnosed the ear infection. But there was a lot of hanging around because they were really really busy, with the jamlet continuing to slump over me and be generally clingy. She's had some more calpol before bed, and went down with a little settling. If she wakes she can have more in the night but if not she can wait until morning, then yes I will give regularly (and may go get some nurofen too).

Sputnik · 07/05/2008 20:38

Glad they found what's wrong with DD Jammy, but in your place I'd be furious with the GP for not picking it up yesterday. They are so useless sometimes.

OP posts:
JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 07/05/2008 20:46

That's the odd thing, the GP yesterday, a different GP this morning and one (junior) doctor at A&E this afternoon all missed it. It was only when the more senior doctor came to tell us how they didn't know what it was etc that he had another look at her and straight away said ooh, that's a very red ear.

BumperliciousNeedsToSleep · 07/05/2008 20:48

Evening all

Jammy sorry to here about the jamlet. Hope she feels better, what a worry for you, and a bloody faff after having been to the dr.

DD does have thrush, fortunately the dr just spoke to DH over the phone and left a prescription for her.

Sorry about the screaming sputnik and JBM. Can't help with the inconsolable crying but DD has been waking up crying for weeks. And since she has been going down awake she has never gone to sleep without crying. Like you say JBM, as soon as her head touches the mattress.

Sputnik · 07/05/2008 21:00

Well I hope he went and gave the junior doctor a bollocking. It should be a routine thing to check on. If I have any suspicions of ear infections I press the area just in front of the ear, that's what I've seen the paed do.

It's one of my bugbears because we have a friend deaf in 1 ear because of undiagnosed childhood ar infection

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 07/05/2008 21:01

Hi Bumper. Sorry to hear that DD is still crying at night. Sometimes the jamlet is asleep (or all but) when I put her down (I feed her sitting next to the cot) sometimes not. I'm trying to sit with her, talking gently, for a minute or two before putting her down to try to get away from the strict feed-to-sleep-into-cot thing. Most nights, whether she's awake or not when I put her down she settles well, hardly crying. But occasionally I have to sit with her for a few minutes.

Sputnik · 07/05/2008 21:02

Bumper, sorry I have been really crap, our desktop has problems and been unable to do that DVD for you yet. We're off tomorrow for the UK, so will try and sort it when we get back.
