Here we go. I was too sick, sleepy and preoccupied with my weight to notice the old thread running out

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
BumperliciousNeedsToSleep · 15/05/2008 11:50

I had my own...and I was up at 5.30 with DD yesterday so by the time I got back all I wanted was a cup of tea - not very glam! Was great, I might do it again.

How are you feeling?

DD has been crying all morning! And I have been trying to bake as I have friends coming over for lunch. So far I have made savoury flapjack and sugar free banana bread for the LOs and I still need to make butternut squash and pear tart. DD hates it when I am doing stuff in the kitchen, she hangs off my legs.

foxythesnowfox · 15/05/2008 12:17

bloody hell Bumper - am seriously impressed a) you did the class b) you can get into a basque c) you have any inclination to do this at all

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 15/05/2008 12:25

Am very impressed too!! And a little

Izzybel · 15/05/2008 12:33

Hey!
Hope everyone is ok.
Bumper, I am impressed too! Don't think I'd have the guts either, but glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for the link to that recipe, may give it a try
Foxy, sorry you've been ill. Hope you are feeling better
Daisy, I can't believe you're 15 weeks already!!! It seems to have flown by, probably not for you though as it doesn't when you are the one that is pg

The weather has been sunny, here since the thunder storm on Sunday, but it has been a little cooler.

DD is now completely refusing to let me feed her so I'm letting her do it all herself. She was feeding herself most of the time, and then I would feed her things that were messy, but now she refuses! I am sick of the bloody mess, lol, plus our dog is getting fatter and fatter from all the food that drops on the floor!
I think she is teething aswell, as her nappies are something to be desired. I changed her nappy about 5 times between the hours of 5.30 and 9 am! Other than that she's been her usual self, so I don't think she's ill her bottom looks like it's getting sore though sorry if tmi!

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 15/05/2008 12:35

Went to the GP this morning. Appt was for me but as tje jamlet developed a rash this morning and it is 2 weeks (the incubation period) since we saw a chicken poxy friend, I asked her to check if it as CP or not. Not was the answer, but she asked about the jamlet and was surprised to hear she's not crawling and said I should see the HV. I was a little frustrated on jamlet's behalf, and to be honest getting bored with the waiting, but not particularly bothered (I just think the jamlet's can't be arsed!). But now she's got me concerned

Izzybel · 15/05/2008 12:40

I really don't think you should be worried Jammy. There are lots of children that never crawl but just start walking when they are ready to walk at around one. I know a little girl who never crawled, but started to walk 2 days before her first birthday.

BumperliciousNeedsToSleep · 15/05/2008 12:40

Jammy crawling isn't a milestone. some babies never crawl.

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 15/05/2008 12:47

thanks guys. I don't particularly want to see the HV, but I'd hate for a problem to be missed. dH thinks I should take her, but I'm tempted to wait a bit longer.

RiaButterflew · 15/05/2008 13:18

I wouldn't worry either jammy, unless you think you should be iyswim, all babies are different.

LittleMissNorty · 15/05/2008 14:16

Aww Jammy - shouldn't let the GP worry you....some children never crawl.

Well done Bumper

Well we have sent some invites out for DDs first birthday...I can't believe my little baby is going to be one.

My DD has got a sore bottom as well - lots of little angry red spot - not internally, all external and as soon as her nappy is off she grabs herself and I'm sure she is itching ....can I use a tiny amount of canesten cream does anyone know? Sudocream is helping, as is nappy-free time, but as soon as the nappy are back it flares again.....

foxythesnowfox · 15/05/2008 14:18

Jammy DS2 was a late (lazy) crawler. DD1 didn't crawl at all. DD2 has just started to crawl, in the last 3 days. Please don't worry.

Hi everyone else.

andiem · 15/05/2008 15:57

glad you had a nice time it's raining here too now so don't feel hard done by

BumperliciousNeedsToSleep · 15/05/2008 17:35

Well worst mummy of the week award goes to yours truly. After listening to dd cry literally all morning whilst trying to cook i finally lost it, shouted at her, banged doors and picked her up really roughly God why can't i control myself?

I started that this morning, my friends have been round since, and they are lovely. The first one to come over saw that I was really stressed and made me a cup of tea and was really nice. But I always feel like I am the only one to ever be like this. They all seem to be really in control and don't get frustrated with their babies.

Sorry, here's me whinging again and I haven't even checked to see what anyone else has posted since this morning.

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 15/05/2008 17:40

hi all, I'm back to my not too fussed about crawling self again. Been to a baby group and everyone said it's not like she doesn't move at all. And she's started standing (supported) a little now, so maybe she will bypass crawling and just toddle off one day?

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 15/05/2008 17:44

Sorry Bumper, I took so long typing that your message came in while I was doing it. Sorry that you've had a hard day, and I really don't imagine your friends have it as perfect as you think all the time. I'm sure they get stressed out and grumpy too - I assume they are only human and you don't hang around with some emotionless robotic woman-droids? The fact that your friend knew to make you tes etc means she recognised what you were going through - we've all been there!

justbeme · 15/05/2008 18:06

Hi all

Bumper, you are normal don't worry - I have a very short temper too and then feel awful afterwards. But perhaps - (don't take this the wrong way), you set yourself very high standards (ie baking all morning) and then you're bound to get stressed out. You're not a Virgo like me are you?!!

Went out with 2 RL baby friends for the 1st time today to a farm - L loved it - the expressions on her face were fab!! and..... Im off out for a meal with 2 friends tonight!!

lackaDAISYcal · 15/05/2008 18:22

Jammy, nothing to add to what others have said.....I don't think it's anything to be worried about, but have you got her some toys that encourage crawling? DD got this for Christmas and she loves chasing it around; it really helped her with her crawling.

Norty, canesten is fine; it does sound like nappy thrush. Use it for a few days after the spots have cleared up to make sure it's all gone. I've had both 0.5% and 1% prescribed for DD before.

Ria, when we're in the garden, I just let DD loose these days. We've got DSs old push along/ride along and she potters around with that, or else tries to pull up all our seedlings help with the weeding. Our garden is a bit of a death trap though, with brambles everywhere and steps and different levels, so I need to watch her like a hawk, but she has great fun and always howls when I pick her up to take her in.

bumper, sorry you're having a bad day, but try not to beat yourself up about it. We all have days like that, and I'm sure your friends do as well; they're maybe just able to hide it better. Your friends sound lovely and obviously realised that you were a bit stressed out. I hope you feel better now

izzy, DD is wanting to feed herself all the time as well; even weetabix, and boy does that make a mess. this morning I had moved the bowl well out of the way while I made a cup of tea. i heard a crash and the little bee had pulled the tablecloth so that she got a hold of the bowl.....cheeky minx. I'm still finding weetabix pebble-dashed over the kitchen.

Went and indulged in some retail therapy today and got a few t-shirts for me, DD and DS and i got some new sandals. I was really having to force myself not to get stuff for DD, as I'm sure she'll get lots for her birthday, but all her t-shirts are too short and the stuff I got from B & SIL are a bit ....spaghetti strap vests and halter neck tops and the like...they just seem a bit too grown up fir a little one.

hi sputnik....you got the best week weather wise; although it probably still managed to rain in Wales

BumperliciousNeedsToSleep · 15/05/2008 19:07

JBM, you are kind of right, it's not so much having too high expectations it's more feeling resentful that I can't do the same things I used to before having a baby. I want to be able to cook and stuff but can't any more.

lackaDAISYcal · 15/05/2008 19:42

bumper, you can still do all that cooking....just after DD is in bed! Even hanging the washing out becomes a logistical nightmare when there are rugrats about

DS has just been watching Great British Menu, and as I was running his bath, concocted a "quick and simple" dish for his supper, and made a mum sized portion for me...bless him.

It was mango smooooooothie (innocent smoothie mixed with milk) with a sliced peperami sausage on the side. The smoothie had curdled and the peperamis slices were about an inch long. Top marks for effort though. He wants to do some cooking at the weekend now. I've not seem him inspired by a programme for ages; it's the first time he's sat still, and more importantly quiet for half an hour for years!

I think I might have a budding chef on my hands, lol!

LittleMissNorty · 15/05/2008 19:43

Bumper, we all have days like that - please don't think you're the only one.

Thanks Daisy - will give it a go.

LOL at name of person selling that ball - and the grotty chair it was photographed on...really makes you wanna buy it from her

justbeme · 15/05/2008 19:46

Oh I see what you mean Bumper - this parenting lark is just one huge learning curve isnt it!! - But then on the other hand, there's stuff that you didn't do before baby, that you now can -
ie make a fool of yourself pulling faces etc, going to the farm/zoo/beach - you know what I mean. Your life does go to a different level - but give it a few years and you will be able to do those things again.

Anyhow - Im all dolled up and off out - night all x
