Oh SPB, I don't know what to say This country is flipping expensive.

Dh has the girls on a Monday and B has started a new dance class after school today which he has had to take her to. I am dying to know how she got on! I wonder too how dh got on!!!

I have just eaten 5 yum yums - not the big ones, but small pieces. How dreadful is that? They were bloody luverly

CaptainDippy · 21/04/2008 18:45

Oooooh, SOL - any left for moi!!?

Money is a huge stress in this household too >

Bramshott · 21/04/2008 19:56

Ah-ha NL, you see I am older in spirit than you as I have a fridge full of the bloody things!

NorthernLurker · 21/04/2008 20:08

Well B is in bed - worn out! I made her a Victoria Sponge with cream and strawberrys but she was too tired to tackle it - liked the candle though She had a lovely bath and a story and a cozy feed. I have found today so evocative of a year ago - the sun was shining this afternoon just like it did when we took her home, the evening is cool and clear just as it was, the snooker is on the telly.......ok that spoils the mood a bit right? It's true though - I spent the whole of her first fortnight b/feeding and watching it!

Bramshott - do you panic buy sugar as well? And have a lot of recipes for spam.....?

To all with money worries - it's a pain in the backside isn't it!

WestCountryLass · 21/04/2008 22:20

Happy birthday to all the birthday babes

I have missed at least one thread I think, we went camping in Tenby last week so was offline then. Is there a catch up post anywhere?

Leo seems to have suddenly grown. He is nearly walking and he is particularly gorgeous at the mo as very inquisitive and mischievious. He is lush! He loved camping; my eldest hated getting dirty/sandy but Leo likes to get as grubby as possible so camping is right up his street.

Is Octo still around? I've not 'seen' her for ages?

Sexonlegs · 21/04/2008 22:24

Hi folks, so quiet on here tonight.

WCL, lovely to see you. Sounds ike you had a fun week.

Quick question. I am cooking that buttenut squash and lentil thing. Do the lentils need to disappear to be fully cooked??? It is taking ages and I want to go to bed!!!

NorthernLurker · 21/04/2008 22:26

err I think they sort of burst don't they? What do yours look like. And more importantly what do they taste like - hard is Not Good!

WestCountryLass · 21/04/2008 22:28

Yes, deffo thinking about everyone with money troubles. We are not too badly affected at the mo but even so we are cutting back/trying to economise as our weekly shop has increased drastically in recent months. DH went with a list and he didn't get loads of the things I wanted because he said he knew it was going to be an expensive bill and it was £110

We are looking at using www.mysupermarket.com. You do an online shop at your usual store and it compares the prices at other supermarkets, you can transfer your trolley to the cheapest store at the end. Also it suggests swaps for products that are cheaper. Might be worth looking at, even if just to confirm you are getting the best prices you can?

Sexonlegs · 21/04/2008 22:29

NL, they were red lentis, now gone pale and soft, but you can still see them iyswim!!

WestCountryLass · 21/04/2008 22:30

Re lentils, so long as they have a soft/not gritty bite they are done

Sexonlegs · 21/04/2008 22:32

Thank God! It has been going for an hour so they must be done. Right off to bed! See you all tomorrow

Thx WCL and NL xx

NorthernLurker · 21/04/2008 22:32

Yep as WCL says - soft is good. i usually give mine a quick whizz with the hand blender - you can't see them then!

Pesha · 21/04/2008 23:11

Hello!!!

Have just breifly read through this thread but bnot caught up on the last one yet.

Happy Birthday to all the babies who have had them since I've been absent!!

Had manic week last week with dc off and the brief bit of nice weather we had and then had the first of D's partys on sunday so busy preparing for that and spending all the evening before decorating cake as usual!

No time for proper catch up now as still completely knackered and really need to go to bed but thought I better post or I'll have Ellie on phone to me for hours again complaining!!

Will try and post properly tomorrow but house looks like a bomb has hit after sundys party (was out today so didnt tidy!) so really need to do that tomorrow. Have some people in a 4 bed house who might be interested in a swap which would be fab for dc to have a room each so really need to get house tidy asap so they can come round and look. Although not holding out much hope to be honest but worth a shot!

Right - bedtime!! Night all XX

elkiedee · 22/04/2008 01:23

Hope Caiomhe and Beatrice both had lovely birthdays, haven't caught up on reading thread yet and must go to bed now.

oooggs · 22/04/2008 07:49

dts love shreddies (shops own version) and self feed them, so I gave them more today and they have still eaten the lot

Oooggs that's awful - you had 2 under 1 and the sleepless nights to prove it - write to the Chancellor!

I woudn't expect a response though - he's got a lot on his mind

oooggs · 22/04/2008 08:13

NL - you are funny TAMBA (twins and multiple birth association) have been campaigning about this for years!!!!!!!!!

Even after one baby we still had to buy an extra cot, highchair, car seat, bouncy chair, double pushchair extra (oh much much more!!!)

weather here is beautiful hope it is good wherever you all are

Morning everyone
We have a money plan which will hopefully mean we are OK by the time we get paid, if we're really careful - kind of...WCL thanks for the link, we decided one of the ways to sort it out is to do main shop online so will definitely use that.
NL your description of last year is lovely.
oooggs, I can't believe you get reduced child tax credit for twins - maybe it's a couting problem...err one...two...doesn't seem that hard to me!
Well we went into town yesterday and bought some cheap banners etc for T's party on Saturday. Also bought the food (that was when I posted ) and am getting quite excited about it now

oooggs · 22/04/2008 08:37

sounds exciting katy - shame we can't all be there

the child tax credit thing will change when one of the cabinet has twins(or more)

MJ, glad you have a diagnosis, i hope you get some answers on time scales from the gp.

SPB, much empathy with the money worries as i've said before. it's crap

The tax credits is rubbish isn't it? I can't beleive you don't get more for having more than one dc, do they not realise that it costs more the more you have and the amount they class as above a low income is too low. and don't get me started on all this fuss over the 10p tax, ffs they announced it months ago did the mp's not realise then what a pita it was for the low paid not exactly hard to work out when all they're on about is how it won't affect you if you earn over £17-18,000. so obviously it'll affect the low paid, der. anyway i won't go on

on sunday at my dad's we were having a discussion on the 10p tax(dad has such exciting parties) and my step brother was most impressed with my knowledge. I can see his brain processing 'wow she knows a lot considering she just looks after two kids all day' then he asked what my job is and was less impressed since i would obviously know all about it damn. should've said i worked in Tesco

Eddas · 22/04/2008 08:46

x-posts

glad you have a plan spb

oooggs, you're right it'll change then. They already do odd things in favour of the government. They've changed the tax return filing deadline so if you don't file on the interent it needs to be there by 31 Oct not 31 Jan, but government workers have to do it manually so they get the deadline extended to 31 jan and do you know why they can't file online? Because there system is so open to problems that they don't want hackers being able to see the returns so they don't allow government workers to file online. now there's faith in your own systems

CaptainDippy · 22/04/2008 09:46

LOL Eddas

My 2nd employer still needs to give me my PAYE number and then I can start applying for Working Families tax Credits as I work over 18 hrs a week now ..... Come on!!
