Dal: Sounds like you've had a great time, did wonder where you'd been! Glad to hear you're getting back to good health though!
Welcome back Elefantshoes!
Well, I had a bit of a hideous day today, despite the fact that it was meant to be really chilled and a nice bimble round town etc but NOOOOOO, not for me!
First off the massive trek up that hill was made worse by the weather, having to wear a jacket as it looked like it was going to rain at any given minute, taking jacket off half way up the hill. Got to the top, bus stop, got on the bus and realised I had forgotten my shopping bag, oh well got the basket space under the double buggy, got into town and my friend handed me a bag of baby clothes, well that's the basket space gone! Ho-hum, grateful for the clothes either way.
Bimbled round town, spent more money than I should've done, ended up in a charity shop, on the way out a woman in the aisle, about in her late 40's I'd say, looking at clothes on rail, I, very politely, asked if I could get past (due to size of pushchair she had to move, not far but the effort was obviously too much for her!), she tsk'd and huffed so I said "Oh I am sorry, I will go and have children, wont I?!" and she replied "Yes, we can't stop you lot now, can we?". . . First off: what "lot" is she talking about? I am a 26 year old married woman, am I not entitled to have children? Is it frowned upon to be of this age to have children or is this still too young for her? and, secondly: she is obviously convinced that every woman who has children nowadays is sponging off the government in some way (I'm not implying any such thing myself but you know that's what people think if you have children!). If my friend had not been right behind me, blocking my way back, I would've been able to ask her to expand on her theories but, because said friend was in the way, the best I could do was to say "Well, some of us don't want to spend our lives drying out like old prunes!"
It wound me up something chronic as I don't look any younger than my age, I am wearing my wedding ring and I don't look particularly poor (not that I'm not poor but nothing about me would imply such a thing IYSWIM?!), she had absolutely no reason to make this comment and was obviously just taking out some sort of problem that she has had with someone else on me, a complete stranger, but it really hurt me that someone could let a generalism affect the way they speak to people with children! I mean, it's not like I'm dragging ten kids behind me is it? And, even if I was, it's none of her business and I may even be supporting them without the help of money from the government, she can't just generalise like that! It's truly shocking, especially from someone of her generation, you'd expect a little more humanity, especially as she was shopping in a charity shop, the home of humanity. . . or maybe I'm expecting too much from human beings, we can't all be nice can we?!

Anywho, on with the update:
Age: 8 months and 7 days.
Height: Average, 65 cms at last measurement I think.
Weight: About 18lb I should think by now.
Sitting: Still not on her own, but there is definitely more sitting with support going on, (i.e: in her pushchair etc, she's liking being able to look around at everything, used to just like lying there).
Rolling: Every 5 seconds given half the chance!
Crawling: Nope, but does like being on her tummy and is found most mornings on her belly.
Standing: Nowhere near.
Sleeping: 8pm to whenever I decide to get up , she'll quite happily play in her cot until half 8/9 O'clock, plus about 3 naps during the day.
Teeth: Two at the bottom front, some teething on and off since but no real sign of the next one's yet.
Food: Purees, mashed bananas/custard, mashed soft fruit/veg, apple rice cakes, fruit bars (think they're by cow & gate).
Words: Dada, Mama, nana (this was introduced today as we were talking to Nina!), bear-bear, ben-ben, bye-bye and lots and lots of the Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaah-ing contest
Favourite activities: Rolling around under her play gym thing (usually ending up a mile and a half away from it but listening intently to the music that it plays), playing peep-o at bed time, trying to munch on mummy's amber necklace, playing with mummy's skirts, waving hands, row-row, horsey-horsey, playing with big sister, pinching faces, eating noses/ears/eyes/chins/fingers/her own feet, stroking her hair, flapping her arms (and legs at the same time when mummy's changing nappy!), rolling over and trying to escape during nappy change, I could go on but I'm not going to it would take far to long, she's just such a playful babe!
Favourite songs: Row Row Row your boat. . . and Horsey Horsey.
Favourite food: Apple rice cakes, butternut squash/apple/carrot/prune (thank you Ella's kitchen!).
Activities: Mouthing kisses but just cos it's a fun thing to copy, she doesn't quite get what a kiss is so if you try it she'll eat your face!
Hope you all had a better day than I did!
xXx
