Ds2 is a right hand chomper. Very loud and very sweet!

More jabs for him today too. Poor mite, he's had quite a lot to contend with this week so far, what with me being ill, then that crappy medication.

Congrats to everyone with sleeping babies. Ds2 went for 8 hours last night but we have the odd fluke night and then it's back to business as usual!

Meet up was fab and yes, someone did leave without their trousers.... and at an English Heritage place too! Imagine!!

Gill - I am going to follow your impressive lead and have bought some washable nappies today!! Eek!!

rozzyraspberry · 23/04/2008 20:42

OK you London lot - you can't tease us like that - what's the story with the trousers?

DS3 is also a hand chomper (10 weeks). DS1 sucked 2 fingers and DS2 his thumb but so far DS3 is just sticking his whole hand in (and retching when the fingers go in too far). I'm hoping that if he finds a particular finger or thumb he'll find that more soothing and maybe sleep longer in the night. Am so so jealous of those of you whose babies are sleeping longer at night. Andrew goes down at 7 which is great but is then up around 10, 2 and 5. It's not too bad as he goes straight down afterwards but I don't really feel like we're progressing as he's been like this from around the first week. We did have 3 nights last week where I was only having to get up once but back to twice again this week. He then quite often doesn't seem very hungry when he gets up in the morning. He hasn't put on much in the last 2 weeks though (only 1/2lb although he's gone from 8lbs 3 at birth to 12lbs 1 at 10 weeks so good weight gain overall) so he definitely isn't taking anymore than he needs. Ho hum - I suppose a full nights sleep will just be all the sweeter for me when I eventually get one (hopefully before his 16th birthday!)

Hope the babies who've had jags this week are doing ok - I hope ds2s week gets better beany.

miniandme · 23/04/2008 21:20

bovrilsarnies · 23/04/2008 21:36

Hello all,

Thanks everyone for the advice on nursing bra's.
I plan to go shopping on Saturday in Milton Keynes - there is a large shopping centre there, where hopefully I will find some bra's and some reasonably flattering new clothes.

How did the meet up go yesterday? who went and whats all this about missing trousers???

I took LO to get her jabs this morning, it was awfull!! DP came with me thank goodness - and he had the job of holding Seren down whilst they injected her. It was very distressing, both DD and I had a cry! I know immunisation is necessary - but it is horrid seeing pain inflicted on your LO isn't it!!

Anyway - she seemed okay afterwards and slept for ages - then woke up and puked her guts up at lunchtime!! has been sleepy again all this arvo, but kept waking up - give a little wimper - then drift off again.

I'm V of all these tales of LO's sleeping 6 to 8 hours in a row!! the most DD has managed is 5.5 hours 1 time! I think I shall try the "dream feed" at 10pm and see if that helps her go a little longer.

Leesmum - ref "have all you first time mums adjusted to the complete upheaval in your lives, it takes some getting used to and you are never prepared for it."

I totaly thought I was well prepared for the hard work of parenthood[smug].......... but you know what....... It IS total upheaval and I was no where near ready for how it has been!!! People ask me if I am any less tired than I was in the first couple of weeks - I don't think i am - I just think I have got used to only getting broken sleep!!

The other thing I didn't really anticipate is, I have been thinking about work and have had serious thoughts about not going back!! I am really confused about the whole thing as on the one hand, my work has always been a large part of my identity and I can not imagine life without it, but at the same time - I would like to be the one at home with LO so as I don't miss a single thing!! Confused.

bovrilsarnies · 23/04/2008 21:38

Hiya Mini!! good to hear from you again! will go and take a peek at the pics of your LO's now in a minute!

Gill79 · 23/04/2008 23:44

Hi Mini - lovely to hear from you again and see how well your little twinnies are doing.... nice to see they are looking so big and strong.

Just updated my profile with more pics.

Hope today's jabs went ok Bean - and good luck with the washables!

Gill79 · 23/04/2008 23:44

oh yes hand sucking all the time as well...

tyaca · 24/04/2008 01:18

what great pics gill - esp the top one.

hearing you rozza - trousers story per-lease you meet up-ers

mini - so good to hear from you. love your movie

gingermum - how did it go with consultant today?

bovril, know what you mean re being overwhelmed by it all. i have had best week yet, but the sudden shift in perspective is tough. suddenly seems like all the rest of life is going to be a slog. also, finding it testing relationship with dh. we've had mini barnies two of the last four days. and major barny on one of the others. i hate that so much.

mitfordsis - i am at [email protected]. shall we do a quick shout out like suggested for a s. london meet? may just be the two of us, but worth a try. register your interest now guys.

esther can find her hands, but usually there's a dummy in her mouth already . going to get disciplined and use a lot less. got a load of pics printed of her and she's got a dummy in nearly all of them...

leesmum · 24/04/2008 08:47

Oh mini it's great to hear from you, i've had a quick look at your pictures and the twins look fab, how is it in your house with 5 Dc's i don't know how you do it xxx

Ds2 fist is allways in his mouth resulting in cheesy hands as well as his neck!

Gill Malcolm is bloody lovely my sis has got one of those seats for me but i've not thought to put Ds2 in it yet, i must dig it out and see if he'll sit in it.

And i'm hoping someone lost their trousers due to baby sick and not poor bladder control, lol

lljkk yes it's horrid when they hold their breath, cos you know there's a HUGE scream coming afterwards.

Gill79 · 24/04/2008 10:27

Leesmum - i'm not too convinced about the seat actually - when he goes rigid he seems like he could pop out of it.

What Happened At Kenwood.... it wasn't wee and it wasn't sick..... and if you want to know more you'll just have to ask Morning Glory

Am being a domestic goddess and making carrot and orange soup but have just zested my thumb - is a bit of a mess.... one minute after thinking I bet I zest my thumb. Ow.

Right we're out into the rain to go to yoga. Laters.

sarahmikeharryandrosie · 24/04/2008 12:44

Mini- good to hear from you- Yep were all still here and still putting the world to rights, Your Twins are gorge!!!

How are you finding having 5 children!!!!

Morning please tell all what happened- re trousers!!!! the suspence is killing me!!!

Jaysfinished · 24/04/2008 13:11

Hi all!

good to read some of your posts and to know that i n general we are all doing well

LO (6wks today) slept from 7-3 last night, went a bit pear shaped after that but i was quite impressed with him...all in his own room and cot too! Has anyone else put LO in their own room? I know its a controversial thing and it kinda happened by accident. I would put him in his room after bath and feed etc, then move him into our rm ( in the moses basket) when we went to bed... but for the last few nights , he hasnt been waking for 10/11 feed and wont take a dream feed, so i have been leaving him there. Seems to suit him so i go with the flow!

TBH hes almost the length of the moses basket - and is weighing in at 14lbs 7ozs!!! so i like to think hes got some more space in his cot.

Mini, the twins are lovely, love the way they 'cuddle' each other!

Gill how old is your LO? Looks so sweet in the bumbo, i have one also. was great for DD and when i was weaning her. DS1 wouldn't stay in it ever, so am waiting to see how DS2 does in it!

My LO isnt really that into hand sucking, hes too busy smiling all the time and gurgling and laughing. Its great, i so missed out all this with DS1 as he was such a sh*t and cried 24/7!

Tried to get in with docs today or tomrrow for my 6weeks check ( loads of issues to be dealt with!!!!) but no appointments its a sad state of affairs i tell you. Have to try on Monday now.

Glad you had fun at the meet up, anyone in the Midlands fancy a meet? I am in Nottingham?

Gill79 · 24/04/2008 14:06

14lb at 6 weeks - good going girl! But then he was big at birth wasn't he? Are you moving him to a cot soon? Malcolm was bouncing off the sides of his moses basket and slept much better in his cot.
He's 13 weeks but the picture from the bumbo was at 9 weeks-ish.

Got absolutely soaked on the way back from yoga but it's worth it - what a fab class just chatting to other mums and doing the odd bit of yoga.

Anyway my dad's making a flying visit tonight and it's his birthday so I am cooking a gammon joint, potato dauphinois and the aforementioned carrot & orange & blood soup. Plus I made a rhubarb crumble yesterday [smug emoticon] And a bottle of bubbles chilling in the fridge

pobletsmum · 24/04/2008 14:53

rozzy - I've seen so many health professionals I think we've exhausted everything, but yes, DD's tongue is in the right place. Thanks for the suggestion though. We went to the consultant this am, and were in and out in only a couple of mintues. He agreed with me that there is no tongue tie so nothing to be done. It was worth a try though. I think that's it now, I'll just have to put up with the pain & clicks etc.

miniandme - great to see you back. I'll check out the pics shortly.

lljkk - we have a photo of DD sucking her thumb on the scales at less than an hour old, so it's never too early! She has been able to find her thumb consistently for several weeks now, and for the last couple of weeks, she's been staring at her hands. It's so funny, it's as though they belong to someone else. She goes cross-eyed looking at them! She's been bashing her toys under her play gym quite purposefully for a while and yesterday she actually grabbed a toy whilst sitting in her bouncy chair. The only problem is she hasn't learnt how to let go yet! I love watching all these little changes & I'd forgotten how funny babies can be! Oh and she's done real laughs for DH and DS, but not me yet. I must write down all the things she's doing before I forget. I can't believe she's 2 months old already .

As for sleep, I spoke too soon yesterday - DD's longest stretch of sleep last night was 11-5. She still seems troubled by her injections (had them tues).

Forgot to say that DH and I are in the same boat as so many of you - we NEVER usually fall out, but an 'issue' came up at the weekend and things haven't been quite right since. I haven't slept well for the last few nights, my mind's been buzzing.

'What's the story morningglory?' - sorry had to do that .

I'm off to cuddle my poorly DS. We've all had lingering colds for weeks, but he's got a temperature now and needs his mummy.

Egg · 24/04/2008 15:21

I AM BACK. DH took computer to work on Mon and Tues to sort out some work issue thing on it, and then my dad has been visiting so not been here. Saw a lovely pic of Bean and Gill's little boys from the meet up tho which helped with my missing MN. So who went home trouserless????????

I went up to 8st 10 for most of last week but was back at 8st 7 on Monday when I weighed myself. Not been back on since but feeling very wobbly round the middle. Saw a photo my dad took of me yesterday and my thighs are very unsightly.

Bean hideous to hear about your poor DS2. Such a crap thing to happen esp as you were assured drugs would be ok. Hope he is doing ok now.

Tyaca and Gill (and prob others sorry) glad your little ones are doing so well at night. Mine are definitely getting there. DS2 regularly sleeps from 10pm feed til 6am or even today 7:30am (!!!) but DD usually wakes some time after 4:30ish now. Neither are interested in their 10pm feeds at all now and DH spends ages trying to get them to take anything more than 40ml, so we are going to experiment with dropping it this weekend to see what happens. Prob not good timing as inlaws are coming for Sat night so if I end up getting up at 2am or something which I am not used to I could be even more grumpy with MIL the following morning.

Ginger - how did your appt go for DS? Hope it was good news. Must be v worrying for you when he has a "fit".

DTs are also both hand chompers. DD has been esp keen on hers. They have been eating their hands for a few weeks but were exactly 3 months when they "discovered" their hands and spend hours just looking at them in amazement, moving them around a bit. They are FIFTEEN WEEKS OLD now. I can't believe how old they are already.

Mini lovely to see you here, we have missed you. I loved watching your vid as it is nice to see Abby and Jack as they are twins with my twins .

Must get my bumbo out too (having seen it on Gill's lovely pics of Malcolm).

Jay my DTs have been in their own room from the day we came home from hospital. I kind of sleep in there with them, except I don't really now as I go to bed in my own room, and then move into their room when the first one wakes up the first time. It used to mean that DH would put them back in there about 10:30pm and I would go in from say 1am or so, but now I am not going in for hours so they are alone in there most of the night.

Sarah, fingers crossed on German Measles. Have you read what the symptoms are so you know what to look out for???

Must post this as it is terribly loooooooong.

sarahmikeharryandrosie · 24/04/2008 16:08

hey hey welcome back egg- we have missed you its been very quiet here!!!!lol

sarahmikeharryandrosie · 24/04/2008 16:10

Jays a midlands meet up sounds like a mighty fine idea, i am in Redditch Worcestershire!!! Any one else interested????

Egg · 24/04/2008 16:12

Hello sarah! Only just looked at your gorgeous new pics! I must must must sort out Christening....

Anyone else got babies that foam at the mouth all the time (or maybe blow bubbles, that look a bit foamy ).

rozzyraspberry · 24/04/2008 16:19

Hi everyone.

Glad your twins are doing well miniandme!!

Well - after complaining about still being up twice every night we were up at - wait for it - 12.15, 2.20, 4.50 and 6.30 last night - so I'm well rested today (I know sarcasm is the lowest form of wit but it's all I can come up with in my sleep deprived state). I think it's probably just a growth spurt and not a change in pattern!(hopeful emotion). Anyway am knackered today - the bad night unfortunately coincided with DH going back to work today after 3 weeks holidays and I'm missing the help.

On a positive note I found out today that DS1 has got a place in the school we wanted him to go to. It's a catholic school and we're not catholic so had to wait to see if we'd been successful. Half of the children aren't catholic and it's a newly built school, much smaller than the other primary school and also much closer to where we live. It's got a really good reputation so I'm really chuffed and the other 2 will get in there too now.

Good to see you back Egg!

DS3 is still in our room - we've put his cot at the end of our bed. Don't fancy putting him in his own room until he starts to sleep for longer stretches in the night (beginning to think that'll never happen).

Went for our second baby massage session this afternoon - same as last week - ds3 was tired, had a feed, then zonked out for the rest of the session. He's still sleeping now actually so I'm going to go and poke him soon (because I'm a grumpy sleep deprived mummy today and if he's not going to sleep all night he's not getting to sleep for hours in the afternoon!).

tyaca · 24/04/2008 16:28

egg - esther foams allll the time, like a little rabied baby .

poblet - hope your isshoo dealable with - sry to hear about the sleepless night.

six week check today. all fine, i love my gp, she's fab. my feelings about her were reinforced at my 6wk apptmnt earlier in the week. she'd been talking to me about post-natal groups, recommended the one held at the surgery, but then handed me a leaflet for a mumsnet local group and said i may have more in common with that group instead. spooky - if slightly worrying re the "more in common" bit. wot? an unhealthy obsession with online parenting sites?

gill - i am very impressed with your domestic goddessery. had a v good day on monday and dh came home to the smell of stew in the oven, sparkling flat and esther coo-ing happily in her chair. i even shoved classic fm on the radio just before he walked in the door. heheeehhhheee

al

beansprout · 24/04/2008 16:58

Egg!!! Mini!!! Fab to see you both!!!

sarahmikeharryandrosie · 24/04/2008 17:15

thanks for looking at my pics egg- yep she is gorge!!!!!

Also foams at the mouth too!!!!

Rosie went in her own room at 6 weeks as she slept like a dream- waking a little more at the mo but i am sure its another growth spurt- she definately gets disturbed less and sleepd more soundly in her own room, i also put her in her cot for naps if i am at home and not going anywhere or on nursery run etc and it seems to work pretty well, but she will pretty much fall asleep anywhere!!!

Am going to try her in the bumbo seat too, Malcolm is really cute in his!!!

LOVEMYMUM · 24/04/2008 17:32

Hi everyone. Am feeling a lot better and much more able to cope with my new mummy-life.

Katie had her jabs yesterday and has been sleepy ever since. She's not off her food though: has still been taking 6 oz bottles every 4 to 5 hours! She's 8 weeks and weighs 5 1/2 kg.

lljkk · 24/04/2008 17:37

Bovril, I think I understand how you feel. My identity used to be totally wrapped up in work... now I'm a full time SAHM. Sometimes we just change.
