A quickie from me as in the middle of cooking tea...

Lisa sorry to hear that Ben is unsettled. I think your diagnosis of growth spurt is probably spot on! Hope he settle into his usual happy self soon...

Crochet fingers crossed!

YLLP hello! And to your dd too although I can't profess to have any idea what she said

J2O glad you're feeling better...

Well my sis was meant to be induced yesterday evening but there was a big accident so all resources were needed for that so she had to wait. Frustrating for her but just glad she wasn't the accident! All being well induction rescheduled for this evening.... I'll keep you posted!

Another lovely day with Choc - swimming and chilling over lunch and coffee. Adam much happier in the pool this week and I got him weighed this pm - 16lb 15oz.

Off to finish cooking - may be back later althoguh as dh was away last night may have some quality time with him instead. Waves to all those not personally mentioned!!!

Crotchetdiva- I hope you pass your exam! I forgot that that monday was the bank holiday monday would you be able to make the tues of that week?

J20 -Really hope you're getting better. x

Well, yesterday I had another BSL level 1 lesson. We did colours, animals and numbers. I am looking into joining a deaf club so I can sign more and watch others' sign. It's easy to learn the individual signs at home but when someone signs to you it's completely different. My teacher is 'having her veins done' so won't be able to teach for the next two weeks so a bit about that.

Today we met (or re-met) the vicar for Henry's Christening. We were married in the church he's being done in but the Vicar was away at a steaming weekend (He's very into trains!) so we had a retired Cannon marry us instead. (Wicked sense of humour, threatened to say 'Will you love honnor and obey? Cook clean and wash..?' during my vows) We then had a bacon sandwich and a coffee sitting on a bench in Hungerford High Street. Ah, the simple things in life are sometimes the best

Had a personal training session today as due to not wanting to over do it as still seeing the consultant for problems 'down there' after having Henry, I really wanted a bit of guidance as to what exercise to do. He made me run up an down the stairs (2 sets of round and round stairs) for 5 mins, then step onto a step holding weights, lift the weights to the side then up and down the stairs for 4 mins, then back on the step etc etc. I was absolutely knackered!!!!!!
My BMI is okay but my fat % is 35% and it should be around 25% (Dh's was off the scale when he first started exercising!!)
My goals are to get fit -being able to run 5K and have my clothes fit me better. Not amazing but you have to start somewhere...

Hope you're all well, am off to an NCT scrumage nearly new sale tomorrow with a friend. Don't really need anything, but clothes are always handy!

Does anyone know anything about car seats and when they should have their next stage up? Hen is now just under 20lbs so we are starting to look but he can't sit up by himself, not even close to it really. He'll be to heavy for the one he's got (20lb/9kg isn't it?) but I wouldn't be happy for him to be in a forward facing one till he can support himself. We're lucky it's not winter as with a big coat on he wouldn't get in his car seat

Am just off to read posts so maybe back later
x

muppetgirl · 25/04/2008 20:42

Alice - wishing to your sister x

LLL - Hope Ben is a little more settled for you tonight. Does rather sound like a growth spurt. I think Oliver is on on too as he's eating everything in sight at the mo.

alicet · 25/04/2008 20:48

muppet hello! Great news about the signing! And also about getting H's christening sorted. And I have to say I would have collapsed at doing that exercise - I am ridiculously unfit!

Re the car seats my understanding is that to go in the forward facing ones they have to be able to sit up themselves. 9kg is the weight limit though - you are right about that. Also they have to be short enough that their head is not above the top of the seat. Maybe go to Halfords to find out which is more important - the weight or the sitting up - to see what to do? Didn't go to them myself but have heard really good things about how thorough and professional they are with car seat fitting so prob the best to ask...

OP posts:
muppetgirl · 25/04/2008 21:00

Thanks for that ALice, I thought it was around 9ks. Hen's a lazy tyke though, we're actually putting him on his front everyday just before he goes to bed. He can support his head and shoulders resting on his elbows but gets very tired very quickly and he actually gets arsey! I have also raised his chair he sits in when I feed him (we have tried the tripp trapp, starts off okay but after 5 mins starts to list sideways!) and have also raised the puschair a little. He took ages to hold his head so maybe this is a little of the same?

alicet · 25/04/2008 21:12

He is an enormous little boy though isn't he and he's not short either - will probaly be harder for him than some of the tiny petite girlies to start holding himself up!

OP posts:
alicet · 25/04/2008 21:13

Oh and when I was talking about them having to be short enough that their head doesn't go over the top I was talking about the baby seats not the forward facing ones....

OP posts:
muppetgirl · 25/04/2008 21:25

My friend said that too. Her o is 3 days yonger than Hen but she was holding her head way earlier than H. I agree with you that it may take him longer but he is a bit of a laid back, let the world happen around him type of boy! I suppose really, why try to get the toy when as soon as you shout your older brother will do it for you!

They are soooooo different it never ceases to amaze me -do you find that too?

muppetgirl · 25/04/2008 21:27

Have just checked our car seat and it says up to 13kg which great but it still doesn't solve the problem of him not really fitting it. Will have to pop to Mothercare tomorrow for a chat and a try.

LisaLessLumpy · 25/04/2008 22:14

I have moved Ben to the forward facing seat and he isn't sitting up yet. I have just reclined it into a more laid back position and he is fine it Oh we have a maxi cosi one hth

PolarMummy · 26/04/2008 09:40

Hello folks, I just don't seem to manage to be able to get on here much at all any more.

Hope everyone is having a nice Saturday Miss Zoe is being a monkey at the minute and refusing to go down for her morning sleep, she usually goes to sleep in minutes but has now been in her cot for a while and there is still no sign of sleep hmmmmm

The car seat thing is a nightmare isn't it, we had someone come into the mums and babies group I go to to talk to us about car seat safety. The advice she gave was that the babies need to be able to sit up properly by themselves before going into a forward facing seat, as in sitting up where you would be happy to leave them sitting and walk out of the room because before this stage they couldn't support their heads in a crash and therefore could damage their neck. She also said that if your lo grows out of their first rear facing seat before they are ready to go into a forward facing seat that the seats which do both rear facing and forward facing are a good option as they can stay rear facing for longer. HTH I wish that there was more advice out there which was independent and not just from the car seat manufacturers.

Oh miss Zoe is demanding attention, will try and get back on later to catch up with everyone.

Stefka · 26/04/2008 10:03

Ugh don't talk to me about bloody car seats! I HATE the car seat we have. It's a mama and papa's and I thought it would be really good but it's just awful. It is so hard to use that I never take it out of the car and it looks so uncomfortable for him. It was expensive too. I would like to find the person who designed it and shove it up there you know what!

I am another one who can't keep up on here. Dareh is well onto his solids although he refused is breakfast this morning. He's not well - bad throat. I am the same but at least I can take something for it. Poor wee mite.

His sleep is getting better! Bit by bit we are getting there. He still wakes up at night but it's a few times rather than a gazillion like before so happy days (or nights rather).

Has anyone given fish to their LO's yet? What did you start with if so?

LisaLessLumpy · 26/04/2008 12:11

I started with cod and put it in a fish pie

crochetdiva · 26/04/2008 12:19

V. quickly ... have got to go and phone the lll bf counsellor, as I have agonising boob pain in my right boob.

Muppetgirl, I can make the Tuesday of that week ... where shall we meet? Can't remember where you are - Swindon? If it is Swindon, I could come to you ... unless you have another plan, that is! (lunch in a pub somewhere sounds good!)

Right, going to go and phone

positive induction vibes to your sister, alice!

love and waving madly to everybody else.

alicet · 26/04/2008 12:44

Muppet I def agree that it's really surprising how different they are. Shouldn't really be surprised really should we - they are different people afterall and if one had been a girl we probably wouldn't think twice about them being different but there you go!

Polar great to hear from you! Hope Zoe settled...

Stefka I have just bought some fish this am to make into a fish with cheese sauce - sam really liked that when he was a baby so thought it was a good one to start with.

Lisa hello!

Crochet hope you get your boob pain sorted - doesn't sound nice...

Well still no news from NZ - keeping my fingers crossed!

Yay I have a nephew!!!

Jack Archie born at 03.01 tomorrow am (OK NZ is 11 hours ahead ) by emergency section. She got to fully dilated and pushing but he was OP and totally wedged in and not moving anywhere...

Just spoken to her and she sounds shattered but elated and he is perfect apparently!

PolarMummy · 26/04/2008 20:26

congrats Alicet that is great news, I love his name

Dalrymps · 26/04/2008 22:16

Wow, congratulations Alice! Bet you're relieved he's been born safe and sound . Sorry haven't been getting on here a lot lately, seems a lot of us are the same, suppose now a lot of us are introducing solids it's yet another thing to fit in to our busy days so we have even less time!
Dylan is really enjoying his breakfast each day, he has baby rice with fruit puree, usually banana, pear or apple , he wolfs it down, not quite so consistent with his dinner though, sometimes he eats a lot, sometimes none at all (like today and yeasterday) and sometimes just a bit... Not sure why, thinking it might be that I have to give it him a little later as he might not be hungry when I offer it as he's usually had bottle, breakfast, nap then bottle and lunch, maybe I should leave a bit more of a gap after his 2nd bottle then try? Although today I think he was teething a bit as he wanted to hold the spoon then he just kept chewing it and everytime I took it away he cried... Ah well will keep at it.
Dylan giggled loads properly for the first time today, he has been doing little chuckles now and again but really went for it today, was sooooo funny, I was blowing his hand with a whoopie cushion and he was laughing so much that we were all in tears laughing too, (we were at the ils).
Stefka - glad the sleep is improving, sounds like the weaning is going well. It says in my Annabel Karmel weaning book for one of the fish recipes you can use cod, plaice, hake or haddock fillet, it's a fish with cheese sauce and vegetables, I can type it out on here if you like....
crochetdiva - hope you get that boob sorted, sounds painfull.
polar - hi there, hope Zoe went off for her nap eventually
LLL - I think i've finally come to terms with the fact it's time to stop eating chocolate and need to loose some weight, i'm going to be a bridesmade in 2 and a half months for my brother and i'm the biggest i've ever been! What diet did you follow?
Well i'm off to spend some quality time with dh, hi to evertone I haven't mentioned, catch ya soon

LisaLessLumpy · 27/04/2008 00:12

Dal - I am following Rosemary Connely's hip and thigh diet

muppetgirl · 27/04/2008 09:16

Hi all

Alice - Congrats!!!! Jack Archie is a great name too, glad your nephew and sister are all okay xxx

Dal - I gave Ollie salmon for his first fish and he loved it! Still loves any type of fish now thinking about it....

We don't follow a diet as such in our house (remember dh was 3-4 stone overweight last year and lost it all?) We decided as soon as we start to restict ourselves we go stupid and want everythign we're not supposed to have. (We did the atkins diet and I phoned dh from a newsagents after buying a double decker shouting to him 'I have to have it!!!!!!! -it was the second day )
We just cut out snacking between meals totally but ate what we wanted for lunch/ dinner.

My exercise session on fri was;

Up and down the stairs for 5 mins
rest

step onto the step thing (like the step in step classes - that made sense in my head!) for 2/3 mins then holding weights arms out to the side level with your shoulders 20 x
step 2/3 mins
arms outwards 15 x
step 2/3 mins
arms 5 x
step 2/3 mins
rest

Up and down stairs for 4 mins
rest

step 2/3 mins
arms holding weights push up to the ceiling 20 x
step 2/3 mins
arms 15 x
step
arms
10 x
step
arms 5 x

up and down the stairs 3 mins
step (? time -too knackered to care at that point)

up and down stairs 2 mins
(could barely walk by this point)

Step

Up and down stairs for 1 min
(agony, agony, agony)

rest

It sounds simple but absolutely knackering. I am aching like mad today. Our chappie is great as he uses your own environment so you can exercise in between without needing a gym.

Love to all speak later as we have a huge mamouth tidying task today in preparation for Henry's Christening next week.

PolarMummy · 27/04/2008 13:24

muppet, I am tired just reading your exercises! I am so unfit its unreal, and like everyone else have decided its time to do something about it, have started walking more during the week and am trying to eat less junk although I find I just don't have the necessary will power when I haven't had much sleep during the night. Do you think the Wii fit would actually work? I am tepmted to buy one as I still haven't spent my Christmas money!

Hope you are all having a nice Sunday and that your weather is as nice as ours is here.

alicet · 27/04/2008 19:23

Polar I'm with you on the totally unfit thing! I keep meaning to get fit as I don't want to be lazy mummy while dh and the boys do loads of sporty fun stuff. Will motivate myself soon I'm sure

Thanks everyone for your congrats to my sis!

Took both boys swimming today. It's been ages since we took Sam - only been twice with them both before today. They both seemed to have fun though. And then been to the Park and Pizza Express for tea so another Townend family Sunday afternoon straight out of the rule book really! Gave Adam a bit of pizza to chew on (not sure that's in Annabel Karmel but never mind!) and he seemed to really like it! Actually think he ate some of it as opposed to just mushing it in his mouth and spitting it out.

Well tomorrow starts my last week as a lady of leisure and I'm going to make the most of it. Still not looking forward to work but a little less panicky than I have been so all good.

Hello to the rest of you!
