Fingers crossed Uni - and must be great to have some viewings again.

L - glad the estate is all sorted now I guess goo dot have it done.

DD is pretty tired after 2 weeks at kindy - lots of fighting here too - and general rudeness and ill temper. We don't have half terms here though - just 4 terms of 10-12 weeks each...so a loooong way to go!

Fires still buring, yes, although hopefully worst is over. Some towns still under threat, so praying the fire fighters will be able to contain them soon. Over 5000 homeless now, over 18 dead .

Now comes the politics - lots of people crying foul at the government who have been (too, imo) heavily influenced by greenies over the years, and so have all but stopped back burning (where they do controlled burns to get rid of fuel - ie leaves, scrub, sticks etc) over the last 10 years or so. Some say this kind of tradgedy was just waiting to happen, as there was just so much fuel around

Frizbe · 12/02/2009 17:29

Oh Astro that's horrible.... personally I favour a controlled burn and I'm quite a greenie, it just makes sense, particularly in populated areas (sure California do it don't they? its the only way the HUGE Redwood trees can procreate as such, as the fires release the seeds = temperature thing) horrible to think that the gov cut back on this, when it seems a natural thing to do, then all of this horror has happened very

LL, lets hope you get some more work soon, try our borough council, I reckon they're going to need lots of grant applictaion help soon (loads of market town initiatives they're trying to raise funding for, whilst trying to get rid of our market, do not get my on my soap box about that one)

Uni at more viewings, that's good news, I think things will pick up again soon, figures for Jan said they did The BBC will lead us all to belive its very doom and gloom, but I think they're making it worse than it is at times.

UniS · 12/02/2009 21:51

Well today would hve been a MUCH worse day t have people looking rund. Boy spent the back end of teh afternoon throwing up. OH JOY. 3 changes of clothes later he worked out how to be sick in a bowl not his lap. Later still he worked out how to be sick in the loo ( got modest praise for being very grown up with that one) then did one final upchuck on DHs shoulder an his own PJs. seemed rather perkier after that last one so fingers Xed hes got rid of what ever was bothering him.

Nearly the HOls Astro, maybe a rest frm Kindy will be helpfull.
Nearlythe Hols Friz- the shop will soon be full of teen agers al day.

Frizbe · 12/02/2009 23:06

Thanks for that thought Uni.

Astrophe · 14/02/2009 05:31

yes Friz, of course a controlled burn is better! A no brainer I think, but some argue its not 'natural' (which its not I guess, but when humans inhabit the bush, we need to modify it to make is safe). Of course its not natural for people to deliberately set fires either [ANGRY]. One of the suspected arsonists has been caught. The PM has called them mass murderers. Such a dreaful thing to do, I quite agree with the PM.

Raiing here today - good for NSW, don't think Vic has any rain though.

Braved Ikea this am with my mum and kids - absolute nightmare, sooooo many people and the meatballs were cold.

DD and DS still driving each other mad - DD is SOOOOO BOSSY it beggers belief. She trys to control everything DS does - down to what spoon he uses, where he stands...everything. What can I do!? Might start a thread.

Uni - no holidays for us for ages -we are just in week 3 of a 11 week term - no half terms.

Any more viewings?

Frizbe · 15/02/2009 11:03

Hi Astro, sorry to hear the Ikea Meatballs were cold, crime! report em......Ick for the rain too, though I suspect its welcome as like you say prevents fires, just could do with it in Melbourne eh.....
Did you do anything nice for Valentines last night?
Sorry to hear dd being bossy, I think its a phase thing. I do however spend quite a bit of time reminding people to share and be nice to each other here Try and catch her being bossy and ask her why she's acting that way, see if you can get a bit of self analysis going? try getting her to see how little bro would feel if he was saying that to her, do you get my drift?

Well dh organised someone to bbsit for us yesterday, so for 2nd time this year (although trade fairs don't really count) we got out together for a few hours Had lovely breakfast out, did new Goth/Alternative shop in Belper for a look round, got some new socks (Jas and Flame will be pleased to hear, Purple n Black!) She has some lovely red n white spotty 50's style dresses with net underneath in there and best of all loads of fabby high heal shoes that fit my huge size 8 feet (cause they have to fit all the trannies as well eh!!) but other than the socks I didn't get anything. We perused the farmers market and got nice quality food, did a local nice furniture store, again somewhere you don't take kids into, then out to Scarthin books for a browse in peace, with coffee and cake. I feel totally pampered

UniS · 15/02/2009 17:14

Frizbe · 15/02/2009 20:13

UniS · 16/02/2009 22:28

DH continues to be a mavel. boy not well enough for nursery today- do dh got up super early went into office at 4.30am worked till 8, then came home to be with boy while I went to work!
Flexi time to the max ? Their building is staffed 24/7 I would not have been able to do it.

Frizbe · 16/02/2009 22:49

Strewth that's mega flexi time uni great that he can do it though {{{Hugs}}} to ds.

Had a lovely day today, kids all very happy to have spent time with both parents, have swum loads this avo, and dd1 managed her 1st flume and dinghy flume without having a major tantrum or breakdown, huzzah dd2 and ss just had a lovely day, so yay.

laundrylover · 16/02/2009 22:59

Frizbe · 18/02/2009 20:13

My friend in Thailand has given birth today Little boy, 7lbs 1oz, courtesy of a mate in thailand, who posted it on facebook so fingers x'd mum and baby are doing good? I got an email timed at 5.30 am (Thai Time) saying she'd woken up in excruciating pain and was grabbing a shower and going to hospital, she gave birth at 4.35 (Thai Time) so not a bad labour for a 1st

What's everyone else upto then? your all very quite, hope your having good fun (Uni hope your not totally housebound with ds?)

UniS · 18/02/2009 21:31

no longer housebound, boy back to normal. I'm working lots this week.all day mon, evening tues, morning today, evening thursday.
MAde a space rocket today.

Astrophe · 23/02/2009 23:54

Glad your lad is ok Uni -sounds like a reasonably mild dose?

All fine here, just popping in to stoke the embers of the thread

Having a 19 week scan on Friday. Yay! Feeling ok -not great, but possibly as well as I will ever be (at least for 21 more weeks...arrgh, that is sooooooo far away!).

No news for DH on the job front - But thinking of looking in other cities now, so maybe that will help.

DM being a pain in the arse, hiffing about all the washing she 'has' to do because of us (actually, DH and I do it so long as she doesn't get up at 6am and do it first!!!)

Frizbe · 24/02/2009 22:07

I'll poke the embers too then! will post more tomorrow as running off to watch Shameless with dh

UniS · 25/02/2009 13:06

Lo all. RL a bit busy with work. I'm lighting designer and operator for a panto this week.
MN life a bit busy with the tea room, hidden in one child family topic, but open to all with an imagination and a high weirdness threshold.

Boy sleeping right now. seems back to normal heath wise. But still getting tired. Going to do a free taster session of yoga bugs tomorrow. and fingers Xed I've got a place on a pediatric first aid course in a few weeks time.

"mark making" is all the rage with boy this week. hes having a stab at copying letters! V keen on writing his name on things too. helps having very short name. house is a tip each evening after a happy creative afternoon. DH si getting a bit sick of being given pen pots lovingly decorated by his son, can't persaude boy that any one else in family would like one too.

Frizbe · 25/02/2009 20:56

at ds making lots of things for people, if my dd1 is anything to go by you still have years of that to come she currently likes making pictures and cards for all her school friends (who I imagine promptly re cycle them but heyho)

Astro, what is your mum like bless her.
Fingers x'd that dh gets some luck on the work front soon.

I spent yesterday running between Argos's to get dd2 her Birthday request of a Dolls House, so now we just have to assemble it job for sometime this weekend. Having a small party on Sunday for her with family and a few friends, House doesn't need making till the actual big day on Wed

laundrylover · 26/02/2009 09:57

Hello, hello ember stoking ladies .

We are back from a lovely half term break but sadly Tilly has turned into a monster since we got home. Hmmmm. Not feeling much like organising a whole class party for her on Sunday!! I would highly recommend that hotel for a short break. Super and kids had their own room - hurrah!!!

I sympathise with you all on the craft overload front. Tilly spends all day at school making cards, books and class lists and then simply transfers to the craft table when we get back home .

I developed toothache on hols and had a filling removed and dressed yesterday so much better now. Used it as an excuse not to go running though and have struggled through less than 3 miles this morning, making my uberfit running pal shuffle along and then give me a lift home .

Bogged down in two HUGE Lottery assessments this week - a million squids in total - erk!!

Sisters on phone from Scotland so need to go and talk about naughty babies who don't ssleep!!!

Frizbe · 26/02/2009 20:15

Yay glad you had a great time LL, good to see you have lots of work coming in too (think of that extension girl )
Even the teacher at school commented on dd1's drawing and sticking ability today, seems she more obsessive than the rest, but in a good way Damien Hurst move over!
So it seems word of the week for dd2 is 'actually'
So dh and I have secured the use of my parents to look after the kids in April, but our hotel of choice is fully booked that weekend any ideas for a great bolt hole get away, not too far from Nottinghamshire? A1 easiest access from my parents, any thoughts appreciated.

Astrophe · 28/02/2009 10:51

Friz, we have lots of 'actually', 'in fact', and 'of course' from DD as well. All words that suit her royal bossiness very well indeed! On the plus side, she seems to be easing off slightly on bossing DS, and is learning how to be more diplomatic as she does it.

So today, DD had a pirate telescope (baking paper tube), and DS had a little plastic knife ('sword') and a pirate hat on...and DD wanted all three props. So she said "Oooooh, Eli, look at those lovely vegetables and fruit...mmm, wouldn't you love to cut them up? That would actually be sooo much fun!" And DS says "ok", and DD says "Well, you should take that pirate hat and sword off of course, if you are going to be a vegetable man, because a vegetable man never ever wears a pirate hat!"...and so DS took them off, and DD looks at me and says "Oh, Eli didn't want to be a pirate anymore". Brat. I'm not sure its a great improvement, but as DS was then quite happy playing with vegetables, I decided I'd go on with my biscuit and glass of milk and not interfere!

So whats the birthday order for these kids? I can never remember. DS is 9th - family party in the park on the 8th for us.

Frizbe · 28/02/2009 20:51

Astro great manipulation skills dd1 is quite good at things like that too.

dd2 is on the 4th (wed) but we're having a party for her tomorrow am baking cake as I type (tis in oven) have already done one half, but its looking a bit thin to cut into two, so am doing another half! will post pic via email when completed

UniS · 01/03/2009 20:21

boy is 3 on the 10th, already had his party. Granny and grandad coming to visit on his birthday.

So do we get him his next bike as a birthday pressie. he will need it before christmas and theres not much else he needs right now. He is only bout 2 cm too short in teh leg for the smallest Isla bike with pedals.

Frizbe · 01/03/2009 22:08

Uni, I'd get the bike, he should be using it by the time you get to summer, so silly not to really Then you can all go out together

Had dd2's party today (will put photos on facebook) lovely day and as the weather was excellent, the kids got to play out in the garden, hurrah!

Mind, that was after I'd cleared up the mess, courtesy of some chavs last night who kindly threw the remains of their midnight feast into my garden, the bright blue fork, sticking up out of my grass gave it away...followed by the trail of chips, cheese and ketchup....the container was nicely stuck in the holly bush I rang dh at work and said we'd better be moved by end of next year, I want peace and quiet in my garden, I do not want to be clearing up chav's mess

Astrophe · 01/03/2009 22:33

Uni - will he be upset/frustrated if he gets the bike but is too short for it? Don't get it if he will be (just get it when he needs it in a few months). But if you think he will be cool with it, and happy to keep riding his smaller bike for now, then I'd get it. Puky seem to have LOTS of different sized bikes with pedals - mayeb they have a slightly smaller one? (Although I understand your brand loyalty - I have tried to move heave and earth to get a pedal puky here for DD's 5th birthday, cos we love our puky balance bike - but they are close to double the price in this hemisphere!)

We didn't really know what to get DS. I had thought marble run, but then decied that it would be me setting it up and that would annoy me! So then we didn't know. Eventually decied it was v silly to spend money on a 'Big' present just for the sake of it, so he is getting some bits of play food (a favourite activity at the mo), some more lego for the collection (another favourite), and some dinosaurs and a mini racket and ball set from DD.

His balance bike is still quite big for him - he will prob want a pedal one for Chrissy as DD will get one in June.

Ultrasound today - was cancelled last week.

x

Glad the party was lovely Friz
