Didn't visit Chistiana. mum and dad did whist walking a round one day and found it all a bit too hippy for them, think they high tailed it back to city centre quite fast. We did hire a "chistiana ike" stsyle bike tho, one where theg kid is carried in a cargo area in front of the rider. It was top of range Kangeroo bike by Winthur. I wanted to try one out. Boy liked it, but was a bit scared by going down hills fast.
Altho I'm usd to riding with a trailer I'd never tried on of that style. Its not a bike I would want to own, VERY heavy, and tricky to steer in tight turns. Ok if you live a flat place like Cambridge or Copenhagen, but not good for Devon. LOTS of space in teh carrier however and I can see how in teh right location they could replace a car as family transport. Lots of people in Copenhagen live in apartments close to the city centre with no car parking. So a family bike to take kids to nursury and get the shopping and ride to work and out to your allotment makes all kind of sence.

Good luck with baby 3 gothic.
Hi spandex, nice to hear from you again.
Yo fiz, hope you get lots of customers in shop in the rotten weather this weekend

UniS · 09/08/2008 12:38

Boy has blue and red stipey hair today. We're off to a party later and he wanted party hair.
food colouring on V blonde hair, looks fab.

Frizbe · 09/08/2008 13:58

at stripey haired ds, shop is dire, so very wet.....I keep playing my two loyal customers at various games, they've been here all day with me dh is in the tent in Wales, was rather wet when he rang me this am, not fancying his chances for the rest of the day

laundrylover · 11/08/2008 13:52

ARRRRRRGH

what a frustrating day. person whos offer we accepted on this house was phoned by estate agent this morning and seemed rather less than keen to hear that we had accepted it. WOT. they have been Very slow and reluctant to talk to agent all along. Am now bricking my self incase they pull out.

Boy also being a PITA. his game this afternoon has been kicking mummy. hes spent a lot time in his bedroom howling in consequence.

AND I have a stiff neck - probadly from scoring for cricket yesterday but who knows.
AND its been raining all afternoon AND dh is off for bike ride to a pub after work. AND i keep snezezing.
AND i want to whinge about it all.

laundrylover · 12/08/2008 22:29

Oh no Uni - I hope they still want the house. This stamp duty wibbling is not good for the market at all I think.

Kiah is an absolute terror if that makes your boy's behaviour seem any better (prob not!). Two year olds eh.....shame it carries on when they are 3 and 4 or so it seems.

OP posts:
UniS · 13/08/2008 19:45

Thanks LL. I know hes ONLY being 2, a friend did comment yesterday, when She saw him meltdown, that he appears to be practising being 3! I Still don't like being kicked tho.

House wobble seems to have passed, phew. For now.
Project De-clutter has started. Not as bad as Astros, but I am trying to remember that new house is slightly smaller than this and doesn't have all the out buildings or any built in cupboard space. Not even a cupboard under the stairs.

We had a nice afternoon today- boy did some hanging up washing ( indoors) some playing on computer (kneebouncers.com), some sticking, some cutting paper, some colouring, some helping me with bread dough, pulling up rhubarb and some playdoh while I got tea ready. Aftertea we "played" a board game - a daft MB games old one with rubber mice and magnetic chese. silly, a bit pants and about right for playing with a two year old, cue lots of renditions of hickery dickery dock.

laundrylover · 14/08/2008 18:12

Gosh you are a supermum Uni!

We have been shopping for Tilly's school uniform today and the girls are now both wearing it. V. cute!

Kiah had a MASSIVE tantrum in town. I deal with them much better than I did when Tilly was this age - a mix of experience and the ADs I guess.

Have put a very naughty (calorie wise) Quorn pie in the oven and am going to dig up our first potatoes from the garden to go with! It'll be frozen peas though as we just munch our measly pea harvest straight from the plant.

We are hosting book club tonight which will force us to tidy up -DP on loo trying to read a bit more of the book.

Friz - have you become lost in a game???

Caddy I am in London next Tues (19th) but don't think you are there then? Are you in the NW at all - let me know, would love to meet.

think we have eaten all our spuds. not many this year as they were just forgoten ones from last year. seem to have a 2nd strawberry crop coming on now.
Sorry wasn;t meant to sound supermum, it was just a change to have a nice afternoon when we played together with out either of us having a strop about something, or him kicking me ( one of his favourite wind up mum games at the mo). Managed to keep him busy this afternoon with "helping" me take apart the old spare bed. New spare bed was deliererd this evening. a stacking guest bed divan. so we can de-clutter the futon and single bed that have filled our large spare rom in this house. Oh- and sleep guests rather more comfortably. all the parents have been moaning about the futon and single bed for a while.

laundrylover · 15/08/2008 10:30

Don't apologise for being a great mum Uni!

Kiah has had it on her all morning - she really beats Tilly up . DP just heading off on a long 5 mile hike up to my parents via the park. There is a cousinly collection occurring at lunch time! I'm working which may be preferable.

Gah hi girls, what a week, but I'm here now!
although interspaced with work, dh in Wales for next week, so will be about more, catch you soon!

UniS · 16/08/2008 20:07

Rain rain go away. I optimisticly put washing on the line at 5 pm in a light drizzle, hoping it would blow dry. 20 mins later teh rain returned to previous hammer velocity so I got the washing in again, no dryer. Ho hum.
Went and took another look at ( fingers crossed) new house this morning. thankfully we still like it. Its less green than i remeber which is good and while the bedrooms really are small, the living room is nice and big.

Friz- is your DH in wales doing LARP stuff ? poor bugger if he is, can't be much fun wearing hessian and fun fur in a tent in all this.

Frizbe · 18/08/2008 16:58

for still liking the house your moving to Uni rubbish for the rain and the washing though

Yep, dh is in the horrible, dark, dank, wetness of Rain drenched Wales as we speak, having not very much fun, trying to keep peoples spirts up in this awful weather

UniS · 19/08/2008 08:42

HI friz. sympathy fr your poor soggy dh.

i think boy must be growing again. hes been falling asleep in te afternoon AND sleeping well into the morning. hes still asleep now at 8.40am he managed 10am the other day.
plans for teh day- a queit morning in ten into town to take books to book-cycle and go swimming.
Book-cycle is a cool 2nd hand book shop where you pay what you want. They also ship books abroad to schools in developing world and fund tree planting in devon.
Our ruthless de clutter is continuing . all my old college notes went in the recycling bin last night.

Frizbe · 21/08/2008 21:54

Cripes Uni, throwing out the college notes, I'm sure I have a fair few of those in the loft (you never know when you might need em eh time for the skip for those here too me thinks)
That book shop sounds cool, we have Scarthin Books (.co.uk) down the road from us, which is a pretty cool place too, though they do charge proper amounts for books but its such a lovely bookshop and coffee shop we don't mind at all

Dh slightly drier today and tomorrow too by the looks of things, but I've said I'm not going down this weekend, as rain forecast for the rest of it, and that's not fair on the girls, so I've arranged to open and close the shop on Sat, (have a friend manning it inbetween) then sun and mon we're closed, so off to Mums on sunday, catching up with some old friends, who are visiting their mums too (probably at Farm park) then Monday will be re arranging garage and house (we've had a door to garage put in by my dad this last week and he's re plastered the celing too, where we had the leak last year, then he's also put us a new door lock on, after that day we had the jamming incident!) So dh will get home and find I've changed the locks guess I'd better get him a new key cut eh!

laundrylover · 23/08/2008 18:48

Just saying heeeelllooooo............

We are chancing the weather and going camping in Hope tomorrow....raining now whilst DP is dpoing some packing.

We bought new bikes so are dying to try them out!!

UniS · 25/08/2008 21:12

Yo. just back from weekend with in laws in dogshit capital of teh cotswolds. I REALLY hate it when people don;t pick up after their foul hound. my MiL is a prime offender. she only picks up if dog shits on pavement, on teh verge she doesn;t bother. NOW where does her grandson like to fall over and roll..... its not the pavement, he knows that hurts.

Cadmum · 28/08/2008 09:43

Uni: I think that NYC or Paris must actually be the Dog S**t capitals of the world and things are rather vile here too but i hear your complaint!

I tried to post this at 4:00 this morning but the site was down! So I copied and pasted:

Hello again... Guess who didn't have reliable internet from Canada? Apologies for the lack of contact.

I am back a week now and just starting to get back to a normal sleep pattern. (Note the current time!)

Our adventure had its good parts but it was mostly really stressful and not in the least bit relaxing. I will never go back and stay with my MIL; it was a nightmare from start to finish.

School started here on Monday and until last Friday, I was convinced that it was the best option for our three but after a restless week and a sleepless night on Thursday, dh and I have decided to keep them home again. Thankfully, there is a somewhat supportive group of HErs here so we will not be alone. The mailbox is full of new books everyday and that is fun!

I am slightly worried about being on CD41 so was 1/2 thinking about buying an EPT to feel awash with relief at seeing only one line. Only can't imagine what I would do if there were two so I shall likely wait it out.

Uni: Do you have a house and a move date?

Friz: Hello! Good choice on staying dry and visiting family and friends at the weekend!

Munz: Nice to see you drop by. New man sounds lovely. Sorry about XH. I fear that it is somewhat typical...

LL: What is new on your front? I am sorry that I could not orchestrate a meet up. We were EXHAUSTED in London anyhow. DD2 refused to be horizontal at night and then slept all day in her pushchair. I spent the nights walking the halls with her in the hotel. DS2 was really excited to see where he was born and revisit his London so it was all worth it.

Astro: Are you out there? Still thinking about heading our way? I might drop you an email since you may be more likely to see that. We saw a converted van on the Motorway on Sunday with UK plates and wondered if it might be you...

Off to tackle some housework since I am still wide awake and everyone else will be up shortly.

Sorry for the novel...

Frizbe · 28/08/2008 22:41

Hi Caddy, sorry to hear your visit home was pants or at least staying with MIL was Glad ds enjoyed his London though How are you finding the HE? is it lots of hard work, or more fun than you thought it would be? Have you tested yet? go on, go on, go on.....you've got me all excited!

Dh finally got his all clear here the other week, so no more nippas for us unless we adopt!

Uni, I agree with you about those who don't pick up, right pita! sorry not been on more, things a bit mad here, gearing up for Xmas at the shop and swapping it all around, getting a confectionary counter in, plus coke fridge, might as well make money out of refreshments too, with the guys n girls who stay at night to play games will post photos when all done!
Also in that dd1 starts school in a week and I've had no time with her all summer (by herself without dd2) so am making effort to take her out, just us, next Mon, even though can't really afford time off work.....

UniS · 28/08/2008 22:55

christmas!!!! already? the kids are nt even back at school. ho ho ho.

waves at Caddy. good wishes for your HE experiment. works for some. my SiL HEs her 6.
House- YES , fingers crossed. we have a buyer for here and a house to buy our selves.

Dh has spent a happy couple of evening installing new PC,( which seemed t need 3 machines t do. really must get shot of the 2 oldest ones now. we have 4! I'v been reduced t the mini lap top, so typos galore.

Boy is still pushing boundries. hes still playing the " hit mummy" game on a daily basis, and still being shut in his room for doing so. Took him to soft play today, not sure he was really in teh mood tho. had to haul him out a few times for kicking. Mind you the kid he kicked WAS being VERY annoying and frankly asking for it.

Hes a very tired little boy at the mo. musbe growing again. hes doing 14 hours most nights and still exhusted by lunchtime. apparently 14 hours is in the normal range ( top end) but can;t say too much bad as some friends have kids at the other end of normal, 10 hours , so awake at 5.30am after a 7.30 B.time.
blackberry picking is a current fav activity, and bike riding also Very popular. My parents arrive tomorrow for 36 hour vist. off to look at trains in afternoon, may b go up on the moor on saturday. mustn't mention house sale tho as not telling them tll contracts signed. Have frisked the living room for incriminating evidence, take sale board down in morning.

laundrylover · 29/08/2008 13:00

Hello,

Back from camping (not a drop of rain!!) and headlong into work.

Camping was good but the girls are so much work at the mo - constant tantrums from Kiah and Tilly is like a sulky teenager - roll on next Tues when they start school/playgroup!! Caddy, no way could I HE!!

Highlights of the trip were having a hedgehog in our tent one night and getting out on our new bikes and child seats though the hills were a killer. Didn't try the cafe in Hope but can recommend the Herb place between Hope and Hathersage - has a bird feeding platform right outside the window with a resident Nuthatch (my fave bird).....would've been even better sans kids.

Nice to catch up on news from everyone - Friz, you must send me a pic of DD1 in her schooliform...will trade you for a pic of my two on Tues.

Xmas.

Uni, agree with you on dog shit - someone left a pile on the family campsite.

Caddy, shame that the trip was not so good but sounds like you are settling back into normal life again.

Right, must do some work but am also eyeing up new tents as suffered tent envy this week!!

Friz:Not tested yet but filled with a What-the-h*-I-Done? feeling. (Don't honestly know where to find a test here without asking the Chemist.)

I am feeling more like: Time will tell so the longer I wonder rather than know--the better. I might DIE when I see two lines. Perhaps I could sail right through the morning sickness part without experiencing it if I don't actually know that I should feel crap?

There is not a soul on earth that would think a fifth is a good idear. I WE am are so, so foolish!

CHRISTMAS?!?! Argh! How can you be so organised?

HE starts in honest on Tuesday (following Canadian Labour day) so I will let you know. DH and I have devised Courses of Study for each munchkin and we are off to get supplies today to make it all happen. The school room is currently full of boxes (with Christmas decorations and such like) that need to be taken to the loft.

I am contemplating starting a blog to see how the whole experiment progresses but I barely have time to breathe some days so it might not actually happen.

Uni: Woo-Hoo on the house front! Did you post links to the new one? I hope that closing goes smoothly and that the move is relatively painless.

LL: Glad the camping was fun and dry! i know what you mean about not being able to HE... I also have reservations but there is a great group of HErs here with friends for my older three built-in and my choices were rather bleak. Needs must, I suppose.

Must run as everyone else is waiting in the CAR!
