New thread! Whoop whoop!

Oooo I get the pinching on the arms and neck too, brutal!

mamamila · 23/04/2008 12:07

ah that gives me bit of confidence to try offering some new foods. people here give babies either porridge or bread mashed into tea until a year old or more so all my cooking and pureeing is watched with interest.

Meandmyjoe · 23/04/2008 12:24

Well I a bit worried about giving Joseph finger foods but I was advised by health visitors to give it a go and I'm glad I did. He loves feeding himself but I still give him porridge for breakfast and purees for Lunch. He usually just has finger foods in the evening and shares whatever we are eating! Don't panic too much if she coughs or gags a bit. Just be there incase she can't cough it up. She should soon get used to eating more lumpy things!

Meandmyjoe · 23/04/2008 12:29

Sorry, I should have said, I gave ds the chunks of food a while before he had any teeth. He only got his teeth two weeks ago but still managed to eats soft chunks and pasta before.

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 23/04/2008 12:36

Hello folks! mamamila great to see you, glad all is well even if you are so sleep deprived still you poor thing! was your ds as bad?

James is finally starting to understand "No" which is handy as it seems everytime I look down he's slooowly pulling a laptop towards him by the wire, or making his way hungrily towards my trainers, or a few minutes ago I heard rustling and found him munching a (bagged, thankfully) dirty nappy I must have forgotten ot move at the side of the sofa. All the neighbours must hear these days is "AAARGH! James, noo0oo0oO0oOo0OOO!" lol But I think he is starting to understand as he usually drops whatever it is and I can put it away.

Mamamila, I gives James chopped up ready-to-eat figs, prunes and apricots and he gets on ok with them, but I don't know about raisins- he's a good eater but I'm still wary of small hard pieces of food. If it were me I'd boil/soak them in a little water for a couple of min until they're soft enough to break up between finger and thumb.

Is anybody else's baby doing rather comical "missionary position" pressup motions at the moment? J thinks he's ever so clever for doing it, I stifle my sniggers, funny little sod!

dd2 understands no too - but unlike james the cheeky minx turns, grins at me then keeps doing what she was doing - pulling the curtains and ripping and trying to eat dd1's magazines are favourites.

hi mamamila and meandmyjoe.

conkertree · 23/04/2008 14:01

yes james - while reading about all these crawling babies, was trying to think how to describe what Struan is doing - but thats it exactly. i take a wee sunday school and think they didnt know what to think when he started doing it this week. made me laugh.

hi mamamila - ds gets lots of finger foods too - cucumber is his favourite, but he likes toast too sometimes. Am looking forward to when he can just eat the same as us. Purees/mashing things were fine for a while but the novelty is wearing off a bit now.

And yes - ds is doing exactly the same with the attacks in the morning - he pinches my neck when i'm holding him, and doesnt seem to do it to anyone else, so they dont believe how sore it is. He bites my cheeks lots too if he gets close enough when i'm not prepared, and the hair is definitely tied back more than it used to be. These babies are vicious.

dh had his first playgroup session today - only dad that goes so will be interested to see how he got on when i get home. i got on with them all fine, but i bet he ends up inviting people round for dinner and all sorts - he's better at being sociable than me.

conkertree · 23/04/2008 14:06

what things make your baby laugh? am getting slightly bored of the two below so looking for some inspiration.

the things that get Struan giggling and giggling is to have things eat him - his favourite is a glove puppet pig that eats his hands and feet.

and he loves hiding under things to do where's struan - there he is type things.

helibee · 23/04/2008 14:17

hiya, Callum eats some raisins and sultanas-i tend to get the jumbo ones and just break them up (i only give him the squidgy ones!) He doesn't really eat much mashed any more either, mostly all finger food.

Callum is like my2weegirls wee one and he just smiles/laughs and carries on his mischeivous activity when i say "no"-he does understand though, you can tell by the look in his eyes

Callum loves being tickled and even if he's on the floor playing, just saying the word boo to him makes him laugh, oh and when dh and i laugh, he's in hysterics

i made the fatal error of being drawn into the vaccination debate (only cos they were criticizing ALL hv's and my mum was a VERY good one, so got a bit defensive) however I'm not going there again, i really detest some of the malice and personal attacks, I'm obviously too soft!

conkertree · 23/04/2008 14:35

yup helibee - i've hardly posted anywhere other than here since getting on an early weaning one and practically being blasted into space. and i saw the one sagpuss was on about gf and how heated that got.

there are definately some posters who go so over the top in their views, that even if i agree with some of what they say, they are just so offensive to people who have a different view that you cant really have a proper debate unless your skin is like an elephants.

helibee · 23/04/2008 14:40

conkertree-where abouts is the sunday school you do? We've been going to my pil's church but it's about half an hour away. We really need to try the local church and see what thats like i think.

helibee · 23/04/2008 14:41

oh and thanks for the reassurance that it's not just me who doesn't have elephant skin

My2Weegirls · 23/04/2008 14:42

insey winsey spider and round and round the garden make dd2 really chuckle. as does peek a boo, dd1 (they just need to lokk at each other and they're giggling), mummy doing funny faces, baths, doing the hokey kokey, the tickle hand, flying baby (wheeching her through the air), bouncing, grand old duke olf york - actually most things, she's a giggly baby.

oh helibee - i've got to say i tend to avoid those type of threads. some people just don't get that we (and our dc) are all different. different things work for different people and we all have different experiences etc.

My2Weegirls · 23/04/2008 14:43

cross posts

My2Weegirls · 23/04/2008 14:47

just discovered another giggly thing - dd2 does a bottom burp and mummy copies the sound (with her mouth)

helibee · 23/04/2008 14:57

yes Callum loves blowing raspberries, at the moment he's sitting on the floor saying "my dada" (raspberries) "mamamamamablubaba" (more raspberries)

My2Weegirls · 23/04/2008 15:01

heh heh - mines trying to eat the sofa - best go get her some milk!

shrinkingsagpuss · 23/04/2008 15:10

.. yes well.. i've stepped quietly away from the GF thread.... I like a good argumnet, but find if you don't go along with the MN elite/ or "ethic" you get shouted down v ferociously! I will always post on things about homebirths and stuff. I avoid the Special needs threads, as I find them v hard to get into - depite being an LD nurse.

Mamamila - lovely to hear from you!! How bad is Mila? Does she sleep in the day to make up for the nights? Don't worry, I shan't mention routines... but if you tried keeping her awake all afternoon from about 3 (you'll prob say she is anyway) mght be be sufficiuently tired to go longer. Also, how much milk does she have a bed time? I found after giving DD a bottle at night she now drains 9 oz and sleeps through every night.

shrinkingsagpuss · 23/04/2008 15:11

.. meant to say... found DD chwing on... ... a condom wrapper yesterday!! discarded in an erm... heated moment and forgotten by the bed ....

helibee · 23/04/2008 15:14

shrinkingsagpuss-that has cheered up my day [

oh Callum is trying to eat the laptop at the moment and he keeps moving the screen

conkertree · 23/04/2008 15:16

hee hee - you cant get away with anything these days shrinking.

mamamila - i give ds a tub of fruit puree with a bit of rice before bed time - sometimes it helps sometimes it doesnt - he's not the best sleeper either but i think he often wakes up itchy. am trying not to feed him every time he wakes cause i know he doesnt need it, but sometimes i end up doing that just to get back to bed as quickly as possible - for a while he was in with us every night after about 1 but i was getting even less sleep than getting up to him so stopped that.

helibee - we go to one in the east end of glasgow as dh is employed as a youth worker there. where are you based?

helibee · 23/04/2008 15:20

we are in wemyss bay and pil are in Bishopton so we've been going to their church in Erskine. Cos of my FM/CFS a closer church would be ideal but we often end up staying at pil on the sat night and then just going with them. What church is it your dh works at?

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 23/04/2008 15:20

lol sagpuss, at least it was only the wrapper! I'm having flashbacks to that film "coneheads" now lol ooh, link!

OP posts:
My2Weegirls · 23/04/2008 15:21

i'm supposed to be finding a holiday cottage for us - somewhere on the west coast but have been faffing on mn instead - oops!

shrinkingsagpuss · 23/04/2008 15:22

I'm supposed to be looking after my children.........
