Gill

The trouble is Lexie legs are on the move all the time so she keeps working her way to the top of the cot then waking up as she squashing her head against the side of the cot or her legs are trapped between the bars. She does this even when in a grow bag.

I think this is why she isn't putting on any weight and dropping down on the chart she is just on the move constantly.

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 01/04/2008 17:43

Hello folks, sorry I haven't been on much but didn't have much to report really!

we had a nice night away friday night, except for lo throwing up acres of pink vom again shortly after we arrived at our friend's house. He did it all over his activity station. It has piano keys and a raised alphabet decoration. He vommed over it all so I spent 20 minutes cleaning him, it, the floor that night, and ages in the morning "flossing" between the keys and cleaning the alphabet with a paintbrush soaked in dettol! kids, who'd have 'em...

Went out for lunch on sunday to a pub, James was a horror. Wouldn't sit still, wouldn't stay quiet, wasn't happy with his food or his toys or anything, just wanted to stand up on my knee and look round at the pub. There was a time when he would snooze in his carseat under the table when we went out. I said to dp on the way home "will it always be this bad?" and he said "no, it'll get worse. In a few months he'll be running round"

Well, he's definitely talking now. And his first word is definitely "poo" I'm hoping it will lead onto other, nicer words!

We think he's getting to the stage of being able to manage smaller foods- last night when (he had already eaten) he was staring balefully at my dinner I put a few peas and sweetcorn on his tray and he was feeding himself handfuls of them. A few he even picked up between finger and thumb, (though it was more a happy accident I think) so might try giving him dry cereal like rice krispies to snack on, and maybe raisins? or do you think they're a choking hazard?

Got to go do tea, back later!

my goodness it has been quiet...

hello everyone!

i had my first day back at work today (thanks for the hugs helibee . and spent my time working through 2014 emails! strangely enough my fingers kept going to the delete key .

on a positive note i have got 31.5 days annual leave from last year that i can carry forward and take this year as well as my 30 days this year so i'm going to work a 3 day week instead of a 4 day week till about decemeber.

those of you with 2 or more DCs how do you get out in the mornings? give me some tips, please. dd1 wanted her bloody xmas cd on this morning, dd2 had a massive shitty nappy - all up the back just as we were about to leave - so had to be stripped and cleaned.

sorry - that was all very me me me. will try and remember what everyone has said sorry if i have missed anyone!

helibee - glad that callum is much better - dd2 seems to only go a few days in between colds. her wee nose has been streaming for about 2 weeks now.

leifmum - how did the move go?

james - 'poo' is a good word . i've found that we frequent different types of pubs now since having dd1 - more family friendly type places (ones iwth wee osft play areas are great once they are walking).

tasha- hope your boys are all ok? and how are you are the drugs helping?

gill have you made an appt with the dr yet

lizziemum - just wait till she can sit and then stand herself especially when she can sit up but then can't lower herself gradually without banging her head off the sides of the cot

bogwoppit - how's the mousehunt going? supposedly chocolate is good for catching them!

that's all i can remember to ask for now!

My2Weegirls · 01/04/2008 20:13

oh - have i beaten james for the longest post this time

lizziemun · 01/04/2008 21:40

my2weegirls

Glad you first day back at work went well.

This is what i do in the morning (easier as i don't work at the mo).

6am Get up with Lexie change her nappy go downstairs and make myself a cup of Tea (very Important).

6.30am up and give Lexie her bottle

7 - 7.30am Make Lizzie breakfast and drink

7.30am - 8am get washed and dressed and get Lizzie dressed.

8am get Lexie into her snowsuit and pram, then get Lizzie and me ready to leave the house at 8.20am for 30mins walk to school.

10 - 10.30am wake up Lexie and get her changed and dressed try to give her more milk.

I allow Lizzie to watch childrens TV in the morning while i am empting dishwasher and making DH lunch (I know i am 1950's housewife) tidying up the kitchen put washing on. But she know when i turn off the tv it is time to go and no argueing.

Hope that helps.

As for the cot we have just lower her cot as has just started to pull herself up. WHen she starts standing we lower the cot again.

Now if anyone got any suggestions on how to introduce breakfast as Lexie realy doesn't like food in the morning. Or alternativly (sp) if someone wants to take her and give her back once she is weaned as i realy hate it.

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 02/04/2008 11:31

Think James has definitely got his appetite back after being a bit poorly and off his food, he's just devoured a whole banana instead of slowly and irritatingly pushing it off the edge of his tray onto my carpet! wonders will never cease.

Lizzie your mornings sound very busy! The babies are all so different, I'm amazed Lexie will wait 30mins for her bottle, James would scream the house down if I didn't give him his milk within about three minutes of him waking up. He just about tolerates his nappy being changed but that's it.

My2weegirls, good news about the three day week, that's not too bad, is it? 2014 emails, rather you than me! Is it ok back at work though? did you feel like it was good to be "yourself" again?

Got loads to do today, hope James isn't feeling as clingy as yesterday when I wasn't allowed to leave the room even when Daddy got home.

shrinkingsagpuss · 02/04/2008 17:37

HELLO!!!!!

Sorry to have been a stranger. POsted lots on other threads and then thought you'll all throw tomatoes at me for abandonning this thread.

Well, life goes on the sagpuss household. Evie sTILL doesn't sleep through the blardy night, but I'm not BF her anymore, and she drains a 8oz bottle before bed, so I know she's had lots of milk. She simply SCREAMS if not held if she wakes in the night. She snuggles in to your shoulder, the screams the minute you stand up to put her back in the cot. She has been relegated to the front room in a travel cot so we can shut the door and ignore her.

She sits alone, all the time now, hardly ever falls over. Sometimes in an effort to get stuff she goes forwards, and then does a sky diving thing. She now rolls in her cot at night, so I'm hoping sleeping on her tummy will settle her more.

She eats well now, marmite sandwiches a real favourite, parsnips too.

She chatters away, and is mimicing whats said, and she does this funny little excited squeal.

oh... Billy's calling (says she's abandonned - which menas she HAS fallen over) - will try and post again soon, and catch up on all your news.

lizziemun · 02/04/2008 20:49

James

Lexie would wait forever for her bottle she doesn't like milk (still only has about 20/25oz milk a day). I still have to force her to drink it .

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 02/04/2008 21:47

Lizzie, that's really different to James then who I think prefers milk to just about anything (makes me feel mean for weaning him, sometimes!) though he appears to enjoy his food he almost rips the bottle from my hands still. But he only has 21/24oz a day too.

Sagpuss you're always welcome on the thread, don't be silly! Lovely that she's chattering and mimicking you, that's so cute! Glad all is well.

They seem to be coming on in leaps and bounds, don't they??? J seems to do something new (but tiny) every day, today he gave me a kiss on the cheek after I did it to him, open mouthed but definitely a kiss, and he did it to daddy when he came home from work, it was so sweet.

This week he has also learnt how to do peekaboo with a towel (thinks he's VERY clever and shrieks with delight) and turn the bathroom light off after his nightly bath, it's becoming part of the bedtime ritual now!

I bought him a ring seat for in the bath and it's beyond crap. It's flimsy, has no bottom, just a single plastic ring with three columns going down to three suckers. Of course J keeps slipping and ends up banging his nuts on the crotch column iyswim. I wince! it didn't seem to bother him terribly but I ended up stuffing a handtowel there anyway. Need to find a decent one, any recommendations?

hey all. lo got weighed today and he is now 11lb6oz so still going up thank goodness . i phoned the cleft team today and they are going to phone back in morning i want to see about getting a plate fitted so it wont be as hard for him to eat. went to mums and tods on monday it was good to get out and my hv works in it she was telling me that if he doesnt start eating soon it could effect his speach god they love making you worry dont they? ds2s lump has gone and now hes just left with a cold and cough.

shrinking- hi, have you tried the new night time milk from cow and gate i bought it and this is night 2 it seems to work its thicker and it is slowly digested through the night so they arent hungry.

my2weegirls- thats great about the job! and the meds are ok taking the edge off things. have an appointment in 2 weeks for my consultation dreading it.

james- lol at poo. could be worse. glad to hear james is getting back to himself. hows the house hunting going?

forgot what else i was going to say but hope everyones well and hope the mice get caught. its getting really quiet in here isnt it.

Bogwoppit · 02/04/2008 23:10

well we caught 4 mice over 4 days, then Sat I got everything out of the garage & swept up poop & threw out chewed bits & rubbish. touch wood so far no more squeaky signs, but I came home tonight & dh has left garage dpoor open - typical - just give them an open invite!

got ds2 weighed yesterday (8 months exactly) he was 9.16kg, more than dd weighed at 13months! think he'd have been more, but has been poorly sick with teeth, cough & puking this last week.
saw HV who realised she'd not made his 8mth check appointment so she's coming tomorrow.

he's sitting on his own well now & commandoing in circles! & wakes up 180deg to how he went to bed! we co-sleep so I'm not sure why he chooses to move his face near our feet! i wouldn't lol

dd had her 1st swim lesson today - in the pool on her own - she did great - I was worried she'd do her shy thing & not get in, but she enjoyed it, tho was shivering lots by the end.
she was showing off ds2's new tooth at baby clinic yesterday!

ds1 is chuffed cos he got a much wanted spongebob gba gae from ebay today. He has learnt to sew. the are making puppets @ school & had to learn running stitch last night - he really enjoyed himself doing it too. think i'll teach him sewing name tapes next!

dh is frantically running home from work this week to finish his preparations for the London marathon - we're all of to London next Fri - wish me luck juggling 3 kids on my own on the tube the busiest w/e of the year!& I guess wish him luck too!!!
hes raising money for leukaemia research.

right that was a me me me post
hope everyone else is doing ok.

tasha your hv is talking out of her arse about speech being affected if he doesn't eat soon. I know kids weaned at 8 months or more who have no probs with their speech.

My2Weegirls · 03/04/2008 15:51

hi all

lizzie - thanks for that. actually managed to give dd2 breakfast this morning (child minders had to do it the past 2 days). but that was only because dd1 went in and woke her at 6.30am (will need to resurect the stair gate to stop dd1 going upstairs).

in some ways it was nice having a few child free hours each day - but i still miss my girls.

tasha - glad the ad's are starting to help and you will be ok at your appt.

bogwoppit - well done on catching the wee buggers! hopefully that's you free of them now

hi sagpuss - nice tohear from you

james - i have the safety first blue bath seat (that's maybe the one you have?) - i think if they even so much as wriggle slightly their crotches end up stuck up against the leg.

tasha22 · 03/04/2008 17:20

just popping on to tell you all i got a bfp think i might terminate.

shrinkingsagpuss · 03/04/2008 17:22

I have the same bath seat!! DD tries drowning herself nightly - by leaning over and out of the seat!! Mostly I sit her in by herself now, but if I'm cleaning the loo and basin, I use the bath seat (how good am I??)

Evie slept through last night -I'm not going to try the night milk Tasha, but thanks anyway, she has 8oz farley sencond milk and that seems to be enough for her. Her problem isn't unger, its wanting to sleep with mumy and daddy!!

sorry, crap typing, trying to watch DS and DD at the same time before one kills the other. DS has decidied that DD's room is an extension of his onw, so I'm constantly fishing trains and cars out before Evie gets her teeth into them!

shrinkingsagpuss · 03/04/2008 17:24

Oh Tasha - Crossed posts. You poor thing. FWIW, I had a termination a few years ago, and although most people on MN seem to be very pro babies, I think sometimes it can be the best thing. BUT you have to be absolutely sure, and get counselling, and see someone quickly. You are in no fit state to make quick decisions, but you really do have your hands full already.

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 03/04/2008 22:10

I've texted you tasha.

Sagpuss, your dd must be great at sitting to go without a seat. James is pretty good until he looks up or turns round, then wallop, flat on his back. I wouldn't dare put him in the bath, he'd stove his head in in minutes.

He's gone to bed without a bath tonight as we spent too long in asda. We have finally started putting him in his cot at bedtime, and he's taken to it really well. Last night he slept 8.30pm til 8.30am in there, which is great (a one off though I think, he's normally demanding milk at 7am no matter what time he goes to bed)

Was sposed to be going out clubbing tonight but too tired. Sposed to be opening a box (box!!!) of wine instead but too tired. Sposed to be having a bath and an early night instead but zzzzzzz.......

OP posts:
helibee · 03/04/2008 23:49

tasha-big hugs to you, i hope you're ok and def get some counselling and take some time to think about things-i'll be thinking of you x x x

helibee · 03/04/2008 23:59

oh james-we got the new bath seat and mat in one from mothercare but tbh Callum goes in the bath with his daddy most times so don't need to worry too much. Glad J has his appetite back.

my2weegirls-thats great about being able to do the 3 days instead of 4-enjoy your w/end with the girls x

Bogwoppit-glad you caught the squeeky visitors! Callum is in the travel cot in the bedroom from bedtime (9.45-10pm) till dh goes to work in the morning and then we co-sleep-i'm just a bit more worried now and think we may need to get a guard rail as he can roll over lots, although we do have the ikea malm bed which is very low to the ground. Any thoughts?

Shrinkingsagpuss-hope evie settles better at night and lets mummy and daddy get some sleep x

lizziemum-Callum doesn't get up till very late morning but he doesn't like anything other than milk for the first hour of being up. I'd just persevere with different tastes for her or try her with something she can give herself but my dad tells me i never liked breakfast as a baby so i guess it's no surprise that C doesn't either!

Take care all x x x

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 04/04/2008 00:36

helibee we are at the same point with the bed thing. James gets in with me after his milk in the morning and usually we have another snooze, but day before yesterday I was dozing off while he was still awake next to me, and he must have rolled a bit, and I suddenly had a 6th sense, looked over and he was right near the edge, peering over. We have a bedguard so we're going to dig it out and put that on dp's side, you can keep it folded down til you need it apparently.

Must go to bed but got yucky grinding period pains ughhh

OP posts:
GillL · 04/04/2008 14:56

Sorry I haven't been around for the last few days. I've been having a lot of trouble getting onto the site from work and just been too busy in the evenings to use the laptop at home.

Dh was away on Tuesday night so I copped out and made dd stay at mum's. It was so lovely having an evening to myself for once. Ds was asleep by 7:30 so I got the washing and washing up out of the way and then got to watch a bit of tv.

My2weegirls - When I went back to work after having dd I had 4 weeks holiday to take in about 4 months. Mornings for us can be fun I normally get up when ds wakes between 5:30 and 6:30. I have to leave at 8am at the latest and during that time I have to fit in feeding ds and getting him dressed, getting dd up, fed and dressed, showering, eating, feeding the cats. They're never all done in the same order and often it's a struggle to leave on time. Dh refuses to get up more than half an hour before he has to leave but he does make my lunch for work and sometimes helps get the dc's dressed. After taking the dcs to mum's I get to work for 9am. I don't know how I have the energy to actually do anything. I did go to the doctors and she told me to try ibuprofen instead of paracetamol. She said I was getting analgesia headaches i.e. my body is so used to the drugs that I get the headaches if I don't take them. She didn't seem that interested in helping me.

Hi sagpuss. Glad to hear you're well and Evie is doing well.

James - we got a bath seat like that but it came with a foam seat. Have you tried putting a flannel under his bum to try and stop him slipping?

Bogwoppit - I'll lend you my cats if you want. They're always bringing in mice. I found a dead one on the kitchen counter this morning

Tasha - hugs to you. My sil has just had a bfp for her 4th baby. She originally thought she was going to terminate but she has decided to keep it. Her eldest is 3.1. Agree with the others, just take your time to make a decision. You need to have someone objective to help you decide.

Bogwoppit · 04/04/2008 17:22

Tasha - hugs to you.

helibee - we wentto get that seat/mat combo but it was sold out grrr. I'd go with a bed guard. we're using this hemnes day bedwww.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/50080315 at the mo - cos it pulls out to king size & ds2 is enclose top bottom & side. then me on the middle & either dh or random child on edge!

gill - we have a cat but all she couldcatch is a cold!

mornings are fun here.
i get up 6.45 & have a shower, then I feed ds2 ( if he hasn't fed b4 i get up.). dh gets up 7ish & makes his pack lunch & ds1s packed lunch.
by this time ds2 is finished so dd & ds1 get shoehorned out of bed (7.15 ish)to get them selves dressed & down for brekkie(which dh sorts out), while I change ds2 & get him & me dressed & hair dried.
by 8 everyone is breakfasted ish( depends on faffing (ds2 & i eat when we get back) dh jumps in shower & i sort teeth cleaning, school bag packing shoe putting on.
8.30 i get all 3 into car (dh sorts himself out lol) & we drive up the road to school (walkable, but dd's nursery is other side of town & none closer to us). ds1 goes in 8.50. then i put 2kids in car & hotfoot it across town to get dd to nursery. then its get me & ds2 home for brekkie & out to whatever the morning holds.

dd is v good at getting dressed - not that she coordinates well most days - i hope nursery realise she picks her outfits!!!

james ugh re period pains, i've just realised i'm due on next weekend when i'm juggling kids on London!

tasha22 · 05/04/2008 17:15

shrinking- bed time milk turned out to be useless anyways done nothing but mess up his routine for the next day and constipation but i stopped and hes ok now so free tub of cow and gate going....anybody lol

thanks for all the advice im going to take more time to think about it and ill let you know my decision but worked out it would be due 11th of december..mabe shouldnt have done that?

hope everyone is wellxx

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 07/04/2008 10:58

Morning folks! Been very quiet lately on here!

Knickers glad your lo is doing so well, let us know how your scan goes and when you're due.

hv just came for J's 8 month check, she said he weighs 23lbs and he's on the 91st centile for weight which is funny because the last time they plotted his weight on that graph was at about 6 weeks and he was on the 2nd centile! Luckily she doesn't see a problem with his weight, particularly as he isn't moving around too much yet.

She said I could drop his middle bottle if I wanted, which I'm a bit about. I might just cut it down to 4oz for now rather than cut it out completely, I'd feel a bit mean not giving him his afternoon bottle before his nap, since he gets so excited over it!

How's everyone doing at the moment? How are all the babies?

OP posts:
My2Weegirls · 07/04/2008 11:24

hi all

hope all goes well with the scan knickerss

tasha - hope you are doing ok

james - i've not had dd2 weighed since about 16 weeks - no idea what she is. not even sure if they still do the 8 month checks here any more (must check the website). and if J is loving his milk then i'd keep giving it to him - he'll let you know when he is ready to drop a bottle or 2.

well going back to work made me really appreciate my time with the girls over the weekend. we went to soft play (arrrgh i hate them) and dd2 had a shot in one of the (manky) baby walkers and just loved it.

dd2 is nearly crawling properly (rathe rthan the commando crawling she's been doing). she still goes backwards though. she can get from lying down to sitting up and sitting up to lying down. sits well without falling - though i still put cushions behind her (when i remember). she's trying hard to pull herslef up and can stand for about 30 seconds before collapsing.

oh and she slept from 7.15 till 5.45am last night. hooray (fingers, toes, eyes, hairs, legs, arms etc crossed that she does it again soon!!)

thanks everyone for sharing your routines - i think that i'm going to have to start a waking up time for dd2 so that i can get her dressed, fed etc and out the door for 8am. childminder has asked that i give her breaksfast as she's doens't have time to give it to her (nursery run).

off to iron my work clothes i nrmally buy clothes that don't need ironed but the trousers i've got (from M&S) need ironed
