I've never started a new thread before - has this worked?

Anyone heard from Skidaddle? Haven't heard from her for a while.

skidaddle · 20/02/2008 12:10

hi all,

clairey - at 'you want porridge, your mummy is mean'!!! you obviously have the patience of a saint and thank goodness she's gone

clara- you poor thing, yanbu at all. my dh came home yesterday and said he was going to a football match with a friend on sat - would be gone 11am-8pm - was that ok? not even a full day and i was pissed off. i feel a bit like a1950s housewife atm - he goes off every morning and works on his phd, goes swimming, has coffee with office mates etc and meanwhile i bf, clean, cook and try to cope with tantrums. then at the w/e HE wants time off not fair (i said yes btw)!

re sleeping through the night - ds is not even close - goes 4 or 5 hours at most. i think this is typical for a bf baby and don't feel bad about it at all - thye are still only tiny

vaguely connected to potty training - my dd announced yesterday - 'Milo (DS) has a a willy and I have a fanny' I asked her who told her that and she said daddy. Now I'm no prude but is that an appropriate word afor a two-year old to use?! DH thinks I am being ridiculous - 'well what do you want her to call it - her fluffley wuffley twinkle winkle?' AIBU??

one last thing re bf - has everyone got the hang of one-handed bf now? I just can't seem to do it - ds just slips off if I takes my hand off my boob (other arm around him) - any tips? It's fine at home but when I'm out and have no cushions I look a bit ridiculous plus he is gettting heavy now..

amani - my DD does that too - wakes up at 3am singin nursery rhymes!! must be a 2yr old thing?!

skidaddle · 20/02/2008 12:12

crossed posts wizz - here I am!

skidaddle · 20/02/2008 12:16

oh wizz just looked at pic of rory - he is beautiful

Bouncingturtle · 20/02/2008 12:31

Ds has had hi first set of jabs, he was a very brave little boy... unlike his mum who blubbed. He didn't cry or very long after the jabs and I was able to feed him straight after, nothing like a bit of grub to make them forget their woes

skidaddle · 20/02/2008 12:38

aaww BT - think I blubbed when my dd had hers too - glad he is fine now

forgot to ask before - have other bfs got huge appetites? I have lost no weight at all in the last month and am starving all the time. I'm certainly not going to deny myself food when I'm hungry as i'm obviously hungry for a reason but am beginning to wonder if I will ever fit back into my old clothes (have two pairs of jeans and a skirt that were too big for me before and which i can now just about squeeze into) - will i just give in and buy some clothes in the next size up?

Beanstermummy · 20/02/2008 12:56

skiddadle - lol at the fanny bit but I know what you mean. Without really thinking about it we've ended up with front bottom with DD1. I read a thread once which almost made me wee with laughter all about the very subject of names on the Times' Alpha Mummy site. I suspect that it really doesn't matter as once they are old enough to work out the peer pressure bit they'll start calling things all sorts of names.

Re the one handed feeding. Last time with DD1 my HV suggested a rolled up muslin under my boob to raise my nipple up - otherwise it's the other hand as it's the only way to get my boob high enough to feed. think this only happens with us, shall i say, more voluptuous ladies

Weight wise - i found Jan I lost bugger all and am now trying hard not to snack - but yes - appetite is huge.

claraquitetirednow · 20/02/2008 13:39

skidaddle, good to hear from you, you are very good at saying the right thing to cheer me up (eg that I am not being unreasonable about my dh and his courses and not to worry that dd2 isn't yet sleeping through the night...). Yes I am hungry all the time too. My problem is I tend to snack on unhealthy things (at the moment chocolate in particular - although it is at least high cocoa choc!) and my weight loss seems to have steadied off. But I probably won't keep breastfeeding much past May-ish time so plan to diet then and not worry too much at the moment.
with names for our rude bits, dd1 has started to say - generally very loudly - that her daddy has a tail....don't think we have settled on anything for her "front bottom" yet. btw dd1 is finally out of nappies, and i have to admit it's been relatively easy so far, so perhaps it was the right thing to wait until she was ready. (sorry about lackof capitals eg am typing in-between picking dd2 up)

insy - poor you with dd1, what a nightmare, especially when it sounds like the baby is sleeping so well! Ours is the other way round, although I can't complain as Martha did do 10 - 3 then straight back to sleep and then until almost 7 last night so no real problems on the sleeping front there.

FurryFox - yes looking after a newborn and toddler is bloody hard. I don't know why we all decide to have new babies when our eldest child is going through the whole terrible twos stage! And like you we are also potty training! Your dd sounds very like ours - she knew exactly what to do and has been able ot tell us for a few months when she needs to go/has gone. Eventually after a lot of bribing pursuading she started weeing on the potty last week and as soon as she got the idea there's been no stopping her and we have barely had an accident since!! Good luck, hopefully your dd will get there soon and it will probably be easier than those who tried to do the potty training in a week thing!

ps skid - know what you mean about feeling like a 1950's housewife. the words groundhog day also come to mind...

Bouncingturtle · 20/02/2008 15:01

Skid - yes to huge appetites, plus lack of weight gain.
So I've joined Slimming World.
I've started a thread on it, look at my previous posts for link.

suey2 · 20/02/2008 15:41

skid yes am starving. Tried to cut back a few days ago, and it affected the amount of milk i was producing within about 24 hours- so have decided that i am just going to be fat for a while longer. I also always have to hold my boob when feeding

Amani · 20/02/2008 16:04

Afternoon ladies,

Had 6 week (more like 9 week) check for DD2 and it was rubbish, so annoyed. We spent 5 mins with the doctor who done the necessary checks and he then turned around, sat at his desk and started surfing the BBC website! He didn't even ask how DD2 was doing, didn't even check her tounge tie (I asked and he said it will go - while checking the weather on BBC website) and when she peed all over the changing table, didn't even offer any tissues to wipe up.

Also had her injections yesterday, poor thing was fast asleep when the nurse poked her with the needle and she cried for 30 seconds and then fell asleeep again. Not sure if it was related to the vaccination but she had a bad night last night where she woke up ever 2 hrs as opposed to her normal 4 hrs

Hi skid - yes DD1 is a terror!

Furryfox - agree with you completely - toddler and newborn is hard - some days want to be in bed by 9pm.

suey2 · 20/02/2008 16:51

amani that is shocking! When did medicine stop being a vocation?

Wizzska · 20/02/2008 19:05

Hi Skid, yes, crossed posts.

I find ~I can no handed bf now if I have the right cushion. Poor little DS has food all over him from when I'm eating though. Now that I've got over the tit pain, it is much easier. As I'm quite big in the bosom dept, it does depend on the angle I get DS at. It is a bit of a balancing act.

Yes I also have a huge appetite, unfortunately it's for biscuits so no weight lost this month either. Hopefully will start running again (slowly) soon so will begin to get the pounds off.

Wizzska · 20/02/2008 19:09

I know what you mean about dealing with husbands who want time off. I understand it, but I had words with mine when he said he was going out to watch the football in the pub. I don't mind him going at all, but I'd like him to tell me before he arranges it. I pointed out that it means I don't get a break from DS all day and he'll be back pissed and will snore all night so no help for me with night nappy changes etc and no sleep from his snoring either.

sushistar · 20/02/2008 19:23

hi guys, DS was born dec 2nd. can i join in? I know you all know each other really well by now, but id love to get to know people with dcs the same age...

cazzybabs · 20/02/2008 19:28

OMG - I am so glad that everyone else is eating loads too...I am craving sweet foor (which is weird because I don't usually crave it as much).

Evie was dead smiley and chatty on the bus this morning - all the old ladies were like "Oh bless". She is so big now..I saw someone in town with a new born and I couldn't belive it! She is a proper baby.

suey2 · 20/02/2008 19:32

welcome sushistar

sushistar · 20/02/2008 19:35

Thanks suey! Cazzy, my ds has started chatting LOADS just in the last couple of weeks. It's so wonderful, I can kind of tell what he's saying - as you say, like a 'proper baby!'

cazzybabs · 20/02/2008 19:41

I meant to say welcome too sushistar, but forgot because I was being rude and was distracted by the cat weeing in a tissue box...bloody thing.

suey2 · 20/02/2008 19:47

my lo too, sushi. Though it sounds like barking at the moon half the time! (ah- ooooh)
lol cazzy

Ambi · 20/02/2008 20:14

Hiya Sushistar

Bouncingturtle · 20/02/2008 20:40

Hi Sushistar!
So far ds is okay... no sign of a temp.

macdoodle · 20/02/2008 20:41

Hi all still here - this single mum with 2 kids lark is BLOODY hard work (kudos to all those out there...waving at Buzzy)....Lily is little star growing cooing lots of smiles Big sis is doing her best scary stuff when she carries her trying to burp her like mum
As for BF - I too can do the no hand feed with my cushion and Lil also ends up with crumbs in her hair ...
Also STARVING and have developed sweet tooth which is odd as have always been savoury gal...went away for weekend and ate tons of cake and find I am bloody gaining weight despite BF a heffer of a baby SO am starting healthy eating and snacks (fruit no more cakes ) and walking....

FurryFox · 20/02/2008 22:00

I'm also hungry all the time and craving lot's of sweet foods but I'm not bf so I'm not sure what my excuse is

Amani - Your dr sounds awful

BT - Glad DS is ok after his jabs. DD's got hers tomorrow and I've got my 8 week check Good luck with slimming world. I really need to start eating more haealthily and doing exersise but I'm just knackered, don't usually get to bed before 1am which for me is late.

Hi Sushistar

Right off to sterilise bottles now, another downside to bottle feeding.
