I've never started a new thread before - has this worked?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
kelbel · 18/02/2008 18:56

clairey - congrats on MIL leaving - crack the wine open - sod the disaproving, we deserve it

caz - snap, growth spurt in this direction. i never quite believe he fits it all in!

we found the miracle swaddle blanket from mothercare a saviour. i too thought flynn hated being swaddled, but this actually stops him waking himself up n as soon as he's in it it's as if he knows its bedtime. dreading swtching to grobag, can only use this until 14 wks.

have your babies got much hair?

Caz10 · 18/02/2008 19:01

heee mine has TONS! wee sod has been putting all her effort into growing her hair instead of putting on weight!

Ambi · 18/02/2008 19:18

Kelbel, mine was born with lovely dark hair, soft and velvety but not too much, it's all pretty much fallen out now though so she's a little baldy with some long bits at the back (a bit like a monk!)
DD has a weepy eye, it's been bad since she was born, it can get pretty gunky and crusty at times but the doctors just dismiss it as a blocked tear duct and will get better. At next jabs think I'll ask for some drops if it doesn't improve.

Bouncingturtle · 18/02/2008 19:49

Ambi - ds also has weepy right eye, I've been for PN check today and mentioned it to the doc, he has taken a swap of the gunk and I'll know thursday pm if it is infected or not. I suggest you press for the same?
Kelbel - yes my ds is still very hairy!
Clairey - woohoo!! You got through it, give your MIL a big hug when she leaves and remind yourself it'll be quite some time before she visits again!
Speaking of which, PILs want to visit, they are coming weekend after dss's birthday, said they would like to come up on the Friday and then they asked about Thursday. I've vetoed that - I don't want to be looking after ds and PILS as well!! Just got off the phone to dh's dsil, want her and dh's db to bring their dds for a visit, they are hoping to come for easter, which will be brilliant, we get on fantastically well with them, they are ils welcome anytime

PeckaRolloverAgain · 18/02/2008 20:12

argh dd is crying alot at the moment

does anyone elses baby spend relatively little time in the day actually content

loucee · 18/02/2008 22:43

Ambi our HV always advises squirting breastmilk into gunky eyes.

Kelbel no my DS is a wee baldy, bless I hope his comes in quicker than his big sisters!

Pecka I'm finding DS needs more stimulation, he likes to look around and see things so I'm putting him under the play arch/swinging chair/putting brightly coloured things near his bouncy chair etc then he gets bored quite quickly so pop him in the sling or in the pram or in the car seat

Caz I haven't got your reply, think my email is playing up as recently had a problem where I hadn't been receiving emails since December (not every email just some had gone AWOL). I'll send you my other internet email which should be more reliable.

Bouncingturtle · 19/02/2008 07:15

Morning!
Had a better night last night, fed ds at 10pm, 12.30, 3pm and then we got up at 6am after another feed.
Hoping to joining Slimming World this evening, would prefer to leave ds with DH but think I'll need to take him with me as he has been refusing bottles and still a bit snotty.

Ambi · 19/02/2008 09:19

DD loves playtime too, She can spend ages on her changing mat kicking about and squealing in front of the TV (bad parent emoticon) watching the colours and movement, unfortunately is most content watching football, which DH is very happy about, and only watches it for DD's sake (he reckons)!! She doesn't really like toys yet or her vibrating bouncy chair. I am looking forward to playing with her properly though.

kelbel · 19/02/2008 11:25

ds has hardly any hair either.

during the day ds feeds, loves lying on changing mat with me talking n singing in stupid voices! still not keen on activity mat, bouncer or swing! had all these illusions (what others told me!) that he'd sleep in bouncer for hours! other than that he's perched on my hip being jiggled about - doesn't really like pram! i'm also looking forward to play time x

claireybee · 19/02/2008 11:44

Pecka ds doesn't really have content time, although he is getting tons better. Your dd is a bit younger than him I think (?) so she should start to improve soon-it's been a long time coming for us! Until last week he was basically waking, feeding, crying but now we fit in a few smiles and gurgles between the feeding and screaming!

DS has quite a bit of hair but not as much as dd had. will put a new pic up in a min

Beanstermummy · 19/02/2008 13:16

Loucee and Caz10 - given up on CAT thingy - please follow sort of random bits next to work out my e-mail - don't really want to openly type it as it would appear so please bear with me. My name is Anna murray (with a dot in between) and I work for Lendlease who are a company based in the UK - please tell me you can follow that to work out my address?? Would really like to meet up for chat and more importantly muffins at starbucks!!

Kelbel - snap with the miracle blanket - have wondered that if I cut out the foot pouch we can go longer than 14 weeks?? Tried the Gro Bag a few nights ago and not a happy bunny - as soon as I swapped her into the swaddle blanket she went straight down - not a good omen! As for Hair - all of Freya's is falling out Not stressing though as this happend with DD1 and quickly grew back

Rather nicely DD2 looks like she's keeping her Daddy's blue eyes rather than brown ish like mine and DD! - will look V cool if she keeps the very dark hair too

Being harsh Mummy at the moment and trying to get her to settle on her own - she wakes up every time she coughs/sneezes/farts etc and I've decided at nearly 11 weeks she is now a big enough girlie to not need me to pick her up and tell her she's not exploded and can go back to sleep Harsh but seems to be working ok today - few mins of indignant wailing then a big, oh bugger this for a game of soldiers sigh, and then sleep

loucee · 19/02/2008 15:31

Beanster rodger that, will email u both this afternoon!

I've been looking on ebay at swaddle blankets and theres a brand that sell large sizes but I'm not sure they are the same as miracle blankets (as in I think they look like a grobag but with a wrap to keep arms down.

loucee · 19/02/2008 16:33

We had DS's follow up appointment at the hospital today and it went fine so he's now been discharged They were all cooing over him as he was in the sling and (for the first time) he was sucking his thumb! He hasn't repeated that, maybe he's been secretly sucking it?!
I also had my de-brief with the consultant, he wasn't really able to tell me anything that they I didn't know but it was nice to hear it all now that it's been 8 wks since the event. I'm going to lay it to rest now and move on. He did say there was no reason why I couldn't try for a VBAC if I wanted another baby and put a couple of things straight (like the fact they don't cut your stomach muscles during a CS they just separate them!). My scar is about 8 inches long but he says it will shrink and it was necessary given the rush it was to get DS out. So that was all very positive.

My parents are coming up tomorrow, really looking forward to it and means DH and I will get to have a couple of drinks down the pub on Thursday night - woo hoo!!

jo1987 · 19/02/2008 17:18

Hi ya, new on here! Does anyone know of any good mother and baby groups around the Staines area? BF is at uni and I'm alone a lot with first baby no friends have babies so I feel very alone DD is starting to sleep a bit longer now she's 7 weeks so I want to start getting out.

Caz10 · 19/02/2008 18:09

hi jo! i'm miiilllles away so can't help but there is a "mumsnet local" area on here somewhere, you might find out through that? also (confusingly!) there is a website called Netmums and they do listings by area. will try to do links...

loucee and beanstermummy will get onto my email later then and hopefully we can sort something out! do we all have to carry red carnations or something so we can spot each other??!

pecka - we had our very first content time today! and dd is 10 weeks, so maybe it's just an age thing? i am very guilty of bundling her into her pram at every opportunity!

loucee what sling do you use?

loucee · 19/02/2008 20:27

Caz I've got a coorie pouch, a baby bjorn and another one similar to a coorie but in a lighter cotton fabric. I had him in the coorie today as it's my preferred one.

jo not sure about your area but I see baby groups advertised on noticeboards at the Health Centre, Library and Co-op.

Bouncingturtle · 19/02/2008 20:56

Jo - your HV should tell you about groups in your area, or contact your local Surestart.
If you join the NCT they have lots of groups too.
For those who were planning on joining Slimming World, I've joined and started a thread here

insywinsyspider · 19/02/2008 21:03

Ambi - I can second what loucee said about bm in gunky eyes ? ds had gunky eye and I put bm in it and it cleared up almost straight away

kelbel - yes I have a hairy ds too ? his hair sticks straight up about an inch, it tickles my chin when he?s in the sling

Still going pretty rubbish here on the sleep front ? ds2 slept 9 hours (woo hoo!), ds1 4 hours and not at the same time they just tag teamed each other at 4am! I got 2 hours sleep on ds1?s floor ? at one point dh took him for ride in car at midnight , up and down the motorway as we had seriously lost the plot with him? I can?t begin to describe how out of character this is for him, its been a long long day with the two of them, only just finished the jobs and off to bed ? night!

FurryFox · 20/02/2008 08:55

Hi all. Haven't been on here for agesssss as having a toddler and a newborn is flipping hard work - how do you ladies do it!? DD1 is at nursery and DD2 asleep (for now) so thought I'd pull my finger out and try and get back into the swing of things

Sorry for thosee of you whose babies aren't sleeping great at night. We've been very lucky and dd2 has been sleeping through mostly for the last couple of weeks but she is bottle fed so I think that plays a part.

insy - I've had a brief skik through the thread and see ds1 is being/is potty trained. Well done him and you DD1 is 2.6 and she'll happily sit on the potty or loo for an age but just will not do anything as soon as she feels it coming she insists on having her nappy on and gets all panicky. Anyone any suggestions? She always tells me when she's going/gone so could be ready-ish

Pecka - I know what you mean about very little content time. Up until a few days ago I felt that every waking moment with dd2 was with her crying but the last couple of days she's had a bit more awake time and been happy for about half hour or so before she's tired and gets grumpy. How old is your dd now? dd2 was 8 weeks on Sunday.

Does anyones lo's not like their pram? DD2 tends to scream when she's in it and even walking for ages doesn't send her to sleep or settle her. DD1 used to love it and we would spend ages walking with her out for the count. How can two babies be so different?

Hope everyone is well. It's very foggy down here today, I can't wait for spring

FurryFox · 20/02/2008 08:56

insy - skim not skik

suey2 · 20/02/2008 09:25

furry same re pram- if she is happy, she's ok, but putting her in the pram and going for a walk will not calm her down. Same with the car. However the babybjorn, once she is in it and i am walking, she loves.

TMI- anyone's lo's poo getting more solid? Millie's used to be totally liquid, now they are a bit more solid. (BF baby 8.5 weeks)

loucee thanks for the info re breasts going down- i was panicking that my supply was dwindling, partciularly as it coincided with ther growth spurt and constant urge to feed. That has settled down again, and she is now only feeding once in the middle of the night again.

Wizzska · 20/02/2008 09:41

Hi all.

Good sleep last night, went to bed at 8.30 because on baby duty on my own last night. DH has an exam today so he slept in the spare room so wasn't on hand for nappy duties or the usually very difficult duty of getting ds back to sleep after feeding. Turns out DS slept until 3.30 and then went straight back to sleep. What an angel! Woke at 7.30, and did such an enormous poo while feeding that it reached me, the duvet and the feeding cushion .

He's sleeping again now so has given me time to clean up and catch up with all of you.

RE slings, I have a Freedom sling which DS sleeps in very well. It always calms him down and he likes being out and about in it. Have also just bought a Wilkinet off ebay on the advice of other mums in my antinatal NCT group. I just wanted one with a different position for variation.

buzzybee · 20/02/2008 09:43

Have uploaded a couple more photos.

Hope everyone's well!

FurryFox · 20/02/2008 11:08

Suey - dd isn't a big fan of the car either. I dread traffic jams or red lights for that matter
re poos. DD's are still usually liquidy but has sometimes been more solid, or perhaps just thicker. Sometimes they are also green but usually yellow. She is bottlefed though.

Wizzska - We've had a few of those poo incidents too, very nasty

buzzy - DD is gorgeous, they both are

Wizzska · 20/02/2008 11:41

Have put a more recent pic of DS on my profile.
