I've never started a new thread before - has this worked?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
cazzybabs · 08/02/2008 21:44

It has worked...

dd3 has been asleep since about 7.00...am afraid she won't sleep through the night.

Have just bnought new bed linen for my bed...am excitied but tis so expensive...

loucee · 08/02/2008 21:55

thanks for new thread Clara,

Re the dummy, DH has just taken it out but thankfully DS has stayed asleep! He just didn't seem to be in as deep a sleep whilst suckling. We weaned DD off the dummy at 6 months.

Cazzy - new bed linen is fab isn't it, I got some for us before Christmas and it's so worth it getting into bed and it washes so well and only needs to show it the iron. Hope your DDs sleep well tonight, DS also went down at 7pm so am wondering whether to go to bed now or just stay up waiting for him to need a feed! GOt a million things to do before DD's party on Sunday.

Got an appointment through today for my pelvic scan (to find out what's causing a pain in my side post caesarian) and it's the day after DS's discharge and my de-brief appointments so I really hope they can move it to the day before to save two days spent at the hospital!

suey2 · 09/02/2008 15:23

afternoon all
Amani- you asked about the coil when i mentioned it before- i don't know about the pain- when i spoke to my gp she suggested a new mini pill which does not need to be taken within the 2 hour window of its predecessor and i have gone with that.

Amani · 09/02/2008 16:52

got my appointment come through today for DD2 6 week check, when sheis 9 weeks! LOL

kelbel · 09/02/2008 17:01

hi suey - loucee pointed me in your direction regarding another thread i started about exercise and recovery after an emergency section. DS is 8 weeks tomorrow, and i've not found the recovery bad at all.i was really active at the gym before pregnancy an i'm wanting some pointers on what i should n shouldn't do. i used to do an hour cardio n hour free weights, i no thats probs a no no right now, hardly got any advice on anything from hospital or doc, so is there anything i should be careful of day to day too? would really appreciate any advice...long post to type when bf!x

suey2 · 09/02/2008 20:39

kelbel as long as you have stopped bleeding and your abdominal muscle is not split you can go for it now. However, it is advised not to run when you are breastfeeding. The usual advice after any surgery including CS is not for 6 weeks.
Obviously be sensible as you would after any break from exercise- free weights you should feel aching at the end of the third set, not before and really suck in the abs when you are doing your free weights as they are bound to be weak- really be obsessive about maintaining your lumbar spine position and if necessary drop the weight right back until you have control.

Cardio apart from avoiding the running (elliptical is fine) you can do the rest. I would really make sure your bra support is very good

insywinsyspider · 09/02/2008 21:19

amani - my ds2's check is when he is 9 wks too I had my PN check last week, gp said coil should be fitted day 5 of cycle so it works straight away, can be fitted any other time but you have to use protection till your next period - not sure if it hurts, figure is not great, not sure I want anyone messing around in there so close to birth, feels like everyones had a look recently

loucee - how long do you have to wait for scan? good luck with it all

anyones lo's got really dry excema type skin - Toby's is looking really sore but not sure what to put on it

macdoodle · 09/02/2008 22:08

I had coil (mirena) last time does hurt but not as much as childbirth gonna have one this time but my GP doesn't do as was very uninterested - my 6 week check was waste of time....babies not till 8 weeks !

wobbegong · 09/02/2008 22:12

insywinsy- how about acqueous cream? You can get it in big tubs from the chemist. Also something called Oilatum in the bath- a kind of moisturising oil.

My LO is nine weeks old and just started sleeping 1ish till 6 or even 7. It is so shocking that I find myself lying there listening out for her snuffling to reassure myself everything is OK. DH reckons that it is just the effect of the 8 week jabs- anyone else noticed their baby more sleepy after them?

Bouncingturtle · 10/02/2008 08:20

Mine and ds's pn check are a week on monday, when he is over 7 weeks old!
Suey - didn't know about the not running while breastfeeding - is it because you might drop the baby just kidding actually that is useful to know!

buzzybee · 10/02/2008 09:08

Hi all! Thanks for nice thoughts to support us single mums
Actually am so much more relaxed this time around that I think I'm finding it easier than the first time even with no DH.
It helps that DD1 (6) is not overtly jealous - apart from draping herself over me when I'm holding DD2 which I must admit I find a bit annoying but really don't want to push her away either.
Just come back from a weekend away - first time overnight away from home with LO except from the night in hospital. Hired a 3 br house and went really really well - so well in fact that Beatrix slept thru from 9.30pm to 7am!!! Very very hot and humid today so she has been more unsettled - fingers crossed for tonight.

kelbel · 10/02/2008 11:23

thanx so much for that suey, i'm raring to go now!

insy i second the acqueous n oilatum, had eczema myself for 18 yrs when younger, so bit of an expert!

wobbegong - ds gets his jabs on tue (boo hoo) so will let you know...dreading it!

buzzybee - well done you...weekend away.

DH n i went out for a fab meal last night n little flynn was angel for my mam n dad, went down no bother at 7, woke up right on cue for a feed when we came in at 11.30 - which was a relief for my boobs!x

Lizzer · 10/02/2008 12:29

Wow lucky you, Kelbel-that sounds great,ds still to unpredictable in the eves to risk going out as he just wants me atm...hopefully by summer we'll get a night out

That's great buzzy, glad you had a good time..

BT re:jogging, no its because your milk turns to butter

Well the sun is really shining again today-we had lovely day out walking in the forest y'day-ds fast asleep in sling all the way. i want to go out again today but housework beckons, dp wants to put up curtains in spare room and we've till got unpacked boxes in there AND the study As we hardly go in there its been easy to ignore, which also tells you how often i clean

Thanks for starting the new thread Clara

claraquitetirednow · 10/02/2008 13:46

Lizzer - I am the same as you, don't think I would risk a night out yet. So instead my girlfriends are coming to me on Wednesday night while my dh is still away! Martha doesn't yet have a bed time and sometimes she is awake (and crying) and sometimes asleep before about 10pm.

Wobbegone - yes my baby was very sleepy after her first set of jabs. That afternoon she was quite unsettled; that night she slept more or less normally but then the next day she slept all day - I would wake her for a feed and she would go straight back to sleep. I was getting a little worried but reckoned it was just the effect of the vaccinations and now she is back to her normal sleeping/waking patterns.

I have thought about the Mirena coil as well but being a wuss about how much it will hurt and as I haven't actually had a natural childbirth (2 X c/s) it might be even worse. So might stick to the original plan of dh having the snip.

OP posts:
suey2 · 10/02/2008 16:16

what is everyone doing about returning to work? I am having to go in quite a lot- not the plan- and it is beginning to hack me off. I am seriously thinking about selling up and becoming an employee again

ontheedgeofthecliff · 10/02/2008 16:26

Hello everyone with the new babes, I've got an 8 week old DD so just catching up with all the Mumsnet info. We're going for first jabs next week, thks for reminders about feeling sleepy etc.

Lizzer - I've had a coil fitted and it's really not too uncomfortable - a quick 10 sec feeling as opposed to childbirth. And definitely worth it rather than remembering to take pills every day.

How do any of you think about exercising already??? I'm doing well to get out and into the car...and who takes the baby whilst you're out turning breastmilk into butter...

suey2 · 10/02/2008 17:04

BT/lizzer- my mum reckoned cottage cheese . I was really cross when i found out- running has always been the way i have kept fit.

Starting baby swimming lessons in a couple of weeks which i am really excited about: and tomorrow i am meeting an NCT pal and going to a mother and baby screening of the kite runner. I have heard a rumour that it is full of screaming babies and sleeping mothers lol!

insywinsyspider · 10/02/2008 21:27

thanks for advice re excema - its only on his face so I'm got some of the aqueous cream and fingers crossed it makes him look a bit more attractive - bless his face looks so patchy and sore

re running - seriously why not? I ex bf ds till 7 months and got back playing hockey when he was 12 wks and ran loads, never put him off he was 50th%ile all the way - just started running again this time (admittedly only been out twice which is a bit lame) love the cottage cheese/butter theory

Bouncingturtle · 10/02/2008 21:32

Work - not going back until end Aug/early Sep.
Still deciding what I want to do, will be talking to my boss about my role and my hours - want to reduce my hours and also not sure I want to do what I was doing before, would like to see what else I could do within the company. Bfing not an option if I go back into my current role of lab manager as I was very restricted in what I could do when pg and the same restrictions would apply to bfing.
Suey - it's a bit shit you having to go in, is the new physio you took on not up to scratch?

cazzybabs · 10/02/2008 21:42

I am going back in Sept and trying not to think about it as it doesn;t seem that far away .

I cooked my first roast dinner today - ~YEH...no wonder still as fat as ever. I made dh get out my rowing machine so I can start again (I just wish I had time to go out on the river again).

Evie woke up every hour last night for about 1 minute each time...just enough to wake me up, want a quick feed and then fall asleep again.

It is half-term here (I am guessing everywhere?) so have all 3 girls to look after. I am quite excitied although you shoudl see the state of the playroom already.

loucee · 10/02/2008 21:53

Suey I didn't know about not running whilst breastfeeding - do you know why that is? That's about the one exercise that actually reduces my thighs and rear end and so convenient with no class start time etc! Is swimming ok do you know? My stomach muscles are really far apart, can I get a referral from the Doctor to go to a physio do you know? (Or maybe my private medical could see me?).

Hello OTEOAC DH will watch our DD and DS whilst I go out for a wee bit to get time to myself, hoping to start regular exercise soon as no matter how shattered I am it always makes me feel much better.

Insy HV said to put olive oil on DS's skin. His face is really dry then goes spotty then dry! Thanks for asking, my scan is on 20th - day after DS's discharge apt and my de-brief from birth. Feel really positive about having those appointments soon, think it's a lot of why I have down days.

I'm hoping to go back to work in January but that will only be if I can reduce from 3 days down to 2.

Well I'm shattered, had lovely party for DD (2 tomorrow). There's a picture of her holding DS here

loucee · 10/02/2008 21:54

Oops link is actually this one

cazzybabs · 10/02/2008 21:56

PeckaRolloverAgain · 10/02/2008 21:58
