I've never started a new thread before - has this worked?

We had a little bit better night but not much!

Loucee - yes he sleeps in our room.
We have baby sleeping bags for him which he likes, we tried swaddling but he manages to kick the blanket off himself.
Yes I do the bounce of the knee for winding, ver effective, as long as you watch out or the vom
Insy is probably right and it is just another growth spurt. Going to have my PN check today, I'll probably get him weighed as well.

Thanks ladies

Bouncingturtle · 18/02/2008 07:02

Well he has just woken up crying so I'd better attend to the little horror angel baby

claraquitetirednow · 18/02/2008 09:35

Insy - 8 hours??!! How do you do that? I don't think Martha ever sleeps for morethan 5 at a stretch and more likely 4; I am starting to get a little weary (apologies to BT - this probably sounds good compared to your little angel!). Have you introduced formula at all?

Ambi · 18/02/2008 09:44

Oh I hope that the babies are sleeping as well as mine soon, I have no idea how I'd cope with night feeds now. I feel really guilty that she's sleeping well and other babies aren't.
DH has spent this weekend trying to rectify the ballsup I made of painting the cot as she's getting too big for the moses basket bless her. Hopefully she should be in it soon.
Not been on much this week, not had much to say - boring!! She had her jabs on Tuesday, had a little cry but was ok afterwards, had to ask my Mum to go with me though was a complete chicken. On Weds we went to my Grandmas in North Wales and enjoyed the fab sun on the Prom, was lovely and the Sun/Sea air seemed to clear up Louise's spots. I can't believe she's 9 weeks already, at last weigh in on Thursday, she was 10lbs 7ozs. Getting a bit worried about Bfing though, for the first time, she doesn't seem to be feeding properly/ interested as much, and the breasts don't seem to be as full. We'll continue on though but may start to introduce formula if she needs it.

claraquitetirednow · 18/02/2008 10:01

no night feeds Ambi? Bloody hell - where am I going wrong? dd2 is coming up 10 weeks and a really good weight, she SHOULD be sleeping longer.....(although she doesn't realise it)

I'm really quite spoiled now, 10pm til 7am. I don't know what we did but we are really lucky.

suey2 · 18/02/2008 11:29

yep, millie's routine has gone to pot, too. Having settled into 7 feeds in 24 hours, with once between 11pm and 7am it all went tits up yesterday. She slept all day, but when she fed, she totally drained me. Had to get up x 2 last night even with spinning her out a bit. She is getting hungry 1-2 hours eralier than we had managed for the whole of last week. Sigh. Och well, if it is a growth spurt at least it should be over soon

suey2 · 18/02/2008 11:30

she is 8 weeks and 3 days today, so in synch with the rest of you

loucee · 18/02/2008 11:31

Wow Ambi that is FANTASTIC!!!
Is DD in with you or in her own room?

Your boobs are really settling down now, it's not because you don't have as much milk it's just purely how they should be now breastfeeding is established. First time round this concerned me (happened around 10wks for me) but this time round they settled right down around 2/3wks which did panic me but seeing the milk spurt out during let down and still getting milk when I squeeze after DS feeds just reminds me that there is plenty of milk.

The more your DD feeds the more your body will make. Do you give any bottles at all?

We've just been swimming, DS slept in his car seat in the pen at the side of the pool whilst I took DD to the class, it went really well and DS is still sleeping now. It's good to be able to start taking DD to her normal classes and activities again.

DS has started to refuse the bottle, he took it for 10 nights in a row (feeding expressed milk after his bath) but now wont have it. Who was it that had the same thing? I can't find who it was - just wondered if your little one went back to taking the bottle?

claraquitetirednow · 18/02/2008 11:49

hi loucee
good for you with the swimming - i take dd1 to tumble tots and dd2 always sleeps at the side, it's brilliant.
it was bouncing turtle who had a problem with the bottle - in the feeding threads. i think others suggested might be because of a cold but i have said try a different teat if not a cold....

suey2 · 18/02/2008 12:00

oo yes, i am looking forward to swimming. Am taking millie to swimming lessons starting next week. Her little costume is soooo gorgeous

loucee · 18/02/2008 12:00

Suey lets hope these growth spurts do pass quickly. Millie obviously has a good routine when not in growth spurt mode.

Clara thanks, I'll try a different teat

those who has cs do you mind me asking how long your scars are now?

suey2 · 18/02/2008 12:10

i would say 4 inches

Bouncingturtle · 18/02/2008 12:14

All you ladies with babies sleeping well, please don't feel guilty! Actually it's nice to hear because it tells me that there is light at the end of the tunnel!
Clara - thanks for the advice!

Ambi · 18/02/2008 13:42

I can?t wait to take LO swimming too, she loves her bath so I reckon she?ll be a right little water baby. Loucee, she?s in her own room and has been since 3 weeks, the grunts were disturbing me and I wasn?t getting any sleep. Relief about the bfing then, I?ll continue on. I?ve given her the odd bottle of formula, probably only one a fortnight, which she takes ok, but makes a mess and needs more winding, so it?s much easier bfing.
This sun is fab, maybe I should switch the heating off now? We booked our flights for August hols last week, I can?t wait. Not been away since last March (crazy hazy week in Amsterdam = ooops up the duff) Looking forward to some Sun, Sea and Sangria.

kelbel · 18/02/2008 14:42

my cs scar is about 5".

Flynn's nightime rouitine is fab, bath and massage at 6, feed, asleep for 7, sometimes wakes at 1 but mostly 4 for feed then back off till 7, then sleep again 8-9. this has been happeing for 3 weeks now, but before then was a v different story, he wouldn't go in moses basket day n night so he's making up now. he v rarely sleeps during the day tho, but i can cope with that and he feeds all day...stocking i guess!

loucee - flynn took a bottle of ebm from 4 weeks, every few days n now he's refusing, we've changed bottles n teats, but no luck...also refuses a dummy - which i'm not too bothered about but would love it he'd take the bottle, we're lucky at the moment coz when's out for the count at 7 til at least 1 we've managed to go out a few times!

don't all hit me!x

insywinsyspider · 18/02/2008 15:16

clara - don't be it was the bloody night dh and I went out for the first time for a meal and left my mum babysitting, we got in at 11pm so missed all the benefit of such a long sleep - last night... every 3 hours starting to feel like I'm doing something wrong as ds1 was sleeping 12 hours by now and ds2 is bigger so in my mind should be able to do it, haven't introduced formula as I know he can do 8 hrs on bm so its something else....

Wizzska · 18/02/2008 15:24

at all you ladies with sleeping babies. Mine doesn't sleep through, in fact he's worse than he used to be when younger. He used to only wake at 4.oo am but now its every 3 hours. Am knackered. He had a cold this week too so even worse. Screaming ab dabs and no sleep. Someone should tell him that at 11 weeks he should be more settled.

PeckaRolloverAgain · 18/02/2008 15:24

Im desperate for some more sleep!!!!!!!!!!!!

claireybee · 18/02/2008 16:15

DS also quite bad on sleep front at the moment. Is generally going down ok in the evening (sometime between 7 and 9)and sleeping until 11.30/12 but then it all goes tits up and he feeds pretty much constantly until morning. When he then has a long sleep just as dd gets up-grr! Can't even feed him lying down cos he pukes when I do! Is there a 9/10 week growth spurt?!

Is much more settled in day now though so hopefully the nights will soon follow.

Dummy does seem to have affected his latch though, he isn't opening his mouth as wide now and his bottom lip is often curled in. He has also slipped off the nipple a few times and given me lovebites on the areola which is quite painful!

Ambi I'd second what Loucee said about bf, she has probably just got a lot more efficient and your supply has regulated now which is why your boobs feel softer. Plus if she is sleeping all night she is obviously getting enough!

MIL leaves tomorrow-I've survived!

claireybee · 18/02/2008 16:29

Loucee, ds is a tummy sleeper too, as is dd.

Caz, when ds comes in bed with us we push the pillows apart so he lies in the middle between mine and dh's pillows-his head is further up the bed then so he isn't under our duvet.

Oh, and dd slept in her big girl bed for the first time last night! I asked her whether she was sleeping in the cot or the bed and she lay down on the bed. Didn't fall out either although I was on edge all night! Was at my parents though so not sure how she'll fare at home...

Ambi · 18/02/2008 16:36

Clairey, forgot to mention about your MIL, she sounds awful. Have a little party to yourself to celebrate coming through the other side. Think I wouldn't have been so reasonable with her. (I suppose I'm too blatant when people annoy me )

claireybee · 18/02/2008 16:39

LOL Ambi, I wish I wasn't so polite sometimes! Have been having a glass of wine every evening to survive (which has given her something to disapprove of!)

Caz10 · 18/02/2008 17:38

Hi all!

Loucee I got your email, was it me you were meaning? Sent you a reply, maybe I have gone into your junk mail?

lizzer at you and long feeds during Lost episodes, I am doing that with the ER re-runs!

wobbegong - "a different baby everyday* - love it! describes dd perfectly! today she is grumpy crying baby

bouncing we've changed from swaddling to grobags too, she does settle better in them initially because i don't have to faff around with covers, but i think she wakes herself up more easily too...so you can't win really. I do like the easier settling bit, but then I see her wee hands waving about at 3am and know she'll be awake very soon...!

oooh ambi i am - but don't you dare feel guilty, enjoy!!! everyone says there are always phases, so I just enjoy the long sleeps when they come, because probably when she's teething or whatever we won't get them again. Longest dd has done was 8hrs but that was after a marathon feeding session, however she can do about 5 at night which i suppose is quite good.

clairey how is your MIL? don't envy you that one!

oooh squeaky noises coming from pram - I am so bad - have fed her then taken her out in pram after every feed today to stop her crying - only prob is i am knackered now and i bet she doesn't sleep tonight....

Caz10 · 18/02/2008 17:39

PS

BLOODY GROWTH SPURTS! I think they are made up just to make us think there's a reason for all this! Dd seems to have the effects of one every week without ever growing!
